- Sandra (4/5): very promising but this one time disappointing; i would be willing to give it another try - our stay would have been better if i had the wifi code on check in and not had to call for it the next morning; there was no ice available; there was no staff available other than check in and that was transient staff
- Ronald (5/5): Do NOT consider this hotel for a Boston airport layover--Booking list it as such - We slept and it was quite, but the room has wooden shudders that don't block light well. A poor choice when arriving from Pacific or Mountain time zones. Winthrop Arms did not communicate with us and still hasn't. The hotel is basically unattended. The management does not answer phone calls or emails or text messages.(Perhaps when the restaurant opens at noon there will be someone there that also manages the hotel). Who knows? You are completely on your own with a late check in. We arrived after midnight. I got a call from someone the day before giving me a code to the lobby front door lock and the lock on the room. The room lock number was part of the address (secure?). The woman was unable to give useful directions to their parking lot, which is a walk and street crossing away from the lobby; and not visible from the hotel entrance. Luckily we could park a handicap spot on the curb.

The hotel is in a residential area, and there was limited parking on the street, but no parking lot. There were no elevators, and no help in getting our luggage upstairs. Zero amenities in the hotel, but the restaurant was great.

The bed is very high and hard to get in and out of.

- E3431ZRchrisw (8/5): Unique place - but worth a stay - The reviews are mixed but it's an interesting place. It's right in the middle of a residential neighborhood on the lake. The restaurant is pretty cool. The room was basic but clean. I would suggest they get deadbolt locks on the doors but otherwise a safe, clean stay in a unique place. If you want a place near the airport to stay for a night, save some money and have an interesting story, this is the place.

All the manager did was say he apologized and offered me a drink. I was stuck wearing my running clothes the entire day.

After staying one night here and parking a vehicle during a trip, we returned to a nightmare—keys were nowhere to be found, no one was there who could assist, there was no record-keeping to refer to, and the employee present didn’t have the phone numbers for the owner or any other employee that might help. We were stuck for almost 2hrs hours (having to find emergency pickup for young kids at home in Maine), and told “likely no one else would be around until 4pm, and we could come back”. This was 8AM so we’re talking 8 HOURS. From inside the hotel-restaurant, we did everything—sent emails, contacted booking platforms, Instagram, LinkedIn and finally the WINTHROP TOWN OFFICE to get ahold of a phone number for owner Casey Goll, who inherited the business. It turned out he was onsite, ASLEEP UPSTAIRS all along, and the employee working was too afraid or not trained to mention that or go get Casey, despite the urgency of the situation after 2hrs. Once we got his number, Casey took his time coming downstairs and was unapologetic and blasé (“Well, what? You have the keys now don’t you? What else do you want?”). That upset my partner enough to raise her voice—owner’s response was “Woah, you might want to check your tone right now.” I wrote requesting a refund for the night’s stay, offering ownership an opportunity to make this situation right, rather than publicly sharing what we experienced. Response? The owner accused us of “making a threat”, noting that we weren’t charged for parking (which was either $5/night as I was quoted on the phone before booking, or $15/night as I was told upon arrival, or $10/night that I was told at checkout. Who knows?). No apologies, no accountability. Screenshots attached. The small-mindedness and immaturity of ownership at Winthrop Arms pervades the business as a lack of basic business etiquette or systems for employees.

- vinces824 (10/5): A Wonderful boutique hotel experience!!! - My wife and I booked this hotel for a one night stay as we were ending our Christmas Vacation by flying out of Boston. Exceeded expectations. The corner room was beautiful, even with the JAWS Movie poster on the wall. :). (We actually watched JAWS that night.. LOL). Extremely clean, comfortable with all needed amenities. It's an old building with a fresh and wonderful feel. You can tell that it has been loved for a long time. Definitely worth the price. The young girl checking us in was knowledgable and polite. They called me the day before check in to make sure we were good. The View of the ocean is beautiful and only a quick walk. We had dinner in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend Docs Chicken Pot Pie and the incredible Strawberry Shortcake. Portions are massive. It would have been perfect with one exception that was not the restaurants fault. Two older ladies were at the table behind us and I don't think they realized how incredibly loud they talked. The entire restaurant could clearly hear their conversation. It was actually a little funny. The server apologized for the proximity but we told her it was fine. Overall... a wonderful experience and we can't wait to go back.

Place is extremely convenient if you are looking to dine and have a beauriful room to sleep at the same place. It is15 min away from Logan Airport (hotel is located east of Boston, hence less traffic and practical if you want to access airport really early in the morning). Also hotel is located in a cozy area facing the ocean. So you can see water and planes reaching Logan which is pretty cool. As said, bar/reastaurant is at the ground floor- i liked it a lot, looking forward staying there again.

When we came back a few days later we had a different room and it was not so nice. The bed was too soft. The curtains were falling off the rod and it was not decorated very nice. - jimmynick (2/5): Awful experience. Almost lost my money. - Booked this hotel through Expedia for one night. I was concerned about our arrival time as the website states the front desk is closed after 11pm. I tried to call them and even contacted them on Facebook but with no replies. I decided to cancel as I was within their cancellation policy. However I noticed that although this was a “pay at the hotel” agreement with Expedia, the hotel had taken the full payment. I contacted Expedia who stated the refund would be 15 days as the hotel had taken the payment and not them but after that date I still had no refund. I found an email address (which is for a pie company?) and the reply was they had to wait to see if I was going to contest the payment with my credit card company? After a month and a lot of back and forth Expedia eventually refunded the payment. This is nothing short of robbery with the hotel playing the long game hoping I would give up and they would keep my money. Their communication channels are awful and the messages I received were rude and passive aggressive. Shame on you.

Deceptive website, tells you nothing about the three (3) stories of stairs with no elevator, rooms with no chairs, an excessively high bed that the elderly could not get into and it goes on and on. The game this owner is playing and at the rates he is charging and when called to discuss never shows up to address the issues is simply borderline criminal. Their 7 to 14 cancellation policy in the hotel industry is absurd. At 80 years old this place should never be chosen. We test the food next?
- ANDREW (8/5): - The property is located near a bay, our room overlooked the water. The hotel is in a older residential with Victorian homes around. Our room was on the third floor, but no elevator. The room was OK, the bed was comfortable, but very high up. There was just one regular chair in the room, no desk. There were no luggage racks, so suitcase on the floor. No dressers to put clothes in. The bathroom was updated and nice. The hotel has a very nice restaurant and bar connected to it. There is no airport shuttle.

You have to Uber to somewhere which kind of defeats the purpose of staying in a place with a restaurant. Other guests and I were down In the lobby very frustrated that there was no way to get food.

They were all friendly and gave us some great advice getting around and things to see. The food in the restaurant was very good. The seasonal pumpkin martinis were amazing. There are steps and no hair dryer in the room, but I would highly recommend and would stay there again!

Comfortable bed and clean sheets, but pillows are a little different than used to. Rooms need to be vacuumed a little bit better, found dead bugs in the closet. A/C unit had black mold in it and we were concerned about turning it on, so we had difficulty sleeping because the room got a little warm and humid due to the ocean breeze. Also did not care for the main hotel entry going straight into the restaurant where people are dining and having to carry in luggage, there is no elevator for room access. Pretty cool spot though.

The first floor is a very popular local restaurant so food and drink were very accessible. You walk across the street and take stairs down to a walking path along the beach. It was 5-10 minutes from the airport and you don't have to deal with the tunnel or Rte. 1/1A. Will be back should I ever get stranded due to flights again!

- Scott (8/5): Perfectly nice for the price - But not fancy - I stayed a week at the Winthrop Arms Hotel for a business trip. It was a perfectly nice hotel for the price, although there are a few things that could use improvement. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was sufficient. However, several things about the hotel upkeep lend to a general air of shabbiness, and could be corrected with minimal expense or effort: 1. The towel bar in my bathroom was missing, with the town bar fixture poking out of the wall, as if someone had broken it off the wall recently. 2. The outlet by the bed was old, and the prongs inside were such that my charger wouldn't stay in the outlet. (Room 215) 3. The veneer on the bathroom vanity was peeling up, as if it had seen water damage. 4. There was a missing light bulb in the vanity lights, with the bare socket exposed. 5. Twice during my stay, the toilet would not refill, and I had to use the ice bucket to "flush it down." I'm not sure why the back tank wouldn't fill, because I had water in the sink and tub, but eventually, it would fill. Granted, none of these are huge issues, but taken all together, it diminishes the overall appearance of being a top-notch hotel. It appears to me almost as if the upkeep of this historic (and lovely) old building is getting away from the owners. I would stay here again, and it was nice to have the restaurant/bar attached for convenience. Also, the free parking was a bonus in a neighborhood with little extra parking.

It did finally get put on the correct date but they charged me an extra $50 , for the charge, even tho it was during the week and not even close to being fully booked! Our flight was delayed and we finally arrived to an empty “ house” , it was locked and dark. Had to call a # and spoke to someone I could barely understand. He explained to me how to get in, which was on the 3rd floor with an old staircase. Got in and room was old furniture and nothing matched , the bed was comfortable and seemed clean. The next morning when we left , we realized the dark main level was a restaurant ( not open ) and we did not see one single person at the place, the place still had no lights on. The fact that we had to pay extra still bothers me… because I tried calling over and over again and a minute after I booked it, but the only time I spoke with a person from this place , was when it was all locked up when we arrived!
