mitchlo (4/5): If good management and hospitality is a must for you, stay somewhere else. - I was a guest for nearly 3 months; I could write a short story about my stay, but I will try not to. I will start with the pros: Very nice bed and pillows, excellent coffee and ice machine, roomy one bedroom suite with nice chairs, pleasant (non-management) staff. Now with the cons: Amanda, Steven, and Stacy (management staff) They were rude and very inhospitable. Also, they did not try to make the hotel a nice place for guests. The common areas were filthy most of the time, having only one broken, dirty grill to use, when at full occupancy. I heard many guests say they would not use it at all. It would be so easy to spray off the area every morning, the water spigot is right beside the gazebos. They don't mow the grass, but they weed eat it now and then. Terrible place for dogs to do their business. There was only one working washing machine until the last week of my stay. Half of the hotel had no hot water for 18 days, majority of the guests on that side had to leave. I was lucky on that front, as I had way too many belongings and food items to change hotels. Weather-stripping on interior doors is non-existent. I was on the first floor; bugs and spiders would walk right into our room; I witnessed it many times. Gnats were so bad, I stopped cooking and preparing meals in my room. The door to the outside did not shut, unless pushed, so it was open a lot of the time... in the Texas summer. Whew! I travel with a very clean and well-behaved cat. I cover all furniture as soon as I get in room to keep any hair from getting on furniture. I always think about the guest after me because I have been staying in hotels for business, over 30 years. This management, all three of them, wanted housekeeping to come into my room 3 times a week, regardless of my job duties, schedule, and my down time. I had to be there, get ready for them, and put my cat in his playpen. It was exhausting. They knew my room was clean, everyone was in my room at one time or another, but they kept making a big issue of this anyway. Dog-owner guests were begging them to do their room more than once a week because of smell and hair but they would not. My standards are much higher than this IHG hotel and management staff. Hopefully, the owner or IHG upper management will read this and address these issues. If so, it could be a 5-star rating from someone who knows what life on the road and hotel living is all about.
Linda (8/5): - The customer service was lacking. Presently they are remodeling and had three window open facing the parking lot.. The giant rugs are rolled up in the lobby which makes is a big eyesore. The elevators had carpet debris. If it wasn't for the nice spacious room have gone elsewhere

Daniel (6/5): - The check-in associate was friendly and fun. Easy check-in. The afternoon associate on Day 2 was a little dismissive when I reported the hole in the middle of the room and the smell of marijuana on the 4th floor and elevator, "i'll get it taken care of". The smell lingered most of the evening with no action taken. Also, the shower had little shower pressure. I did like that the room had a stove, micro, fridge and dishes/pans for guest convenience. In 2024, I'm surprised that the hotel doesn't offer continental breakfast. Not many guests stay with the expectation of cooking in their rooms as most are just passing through and would prefer a hot breakfast. Had to leave a day early due to hurricane approaching.

Essie (2/5): The stay - Jill was amazing from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. We did experience one rude front desk attendant which was named Steven I mean we were full of sand and could not get any clean towels remain you it's for adults and my lil baby I was very upset over that. I mean I would have even got towels and washed them any who well I spoke to someone about it and Jill helped us once again she apologized for the inconvenienced and we even was able to have a late check out. So thank her and if your ever in matagordor ask for her she's amazing...

Z4039RPjamess (6/5): Candlewood Bay City below expectations - One of candlewood's major amenities is the free laundry. Only had three washers and four dryers. Only one washing machine work correctly washers either didn't work at all or didn't spin out the clothes. One dryer would dry but you had to plug it in and unplug it to make it work the other did not dry properly. it took two and a half hours to dry one load of clothes. This issue continued for the entire 26 days of our stay. We cleaned our own room and took two to three days to get a clean floor. The carpet in our room was very clean because it was new. Staff was amazing friendly very helpful to their ability.

AfroBabyLuv (10/5): I actually wanted to move in...for good. - We fell victims to a fire that claimed 100% of everything we owned in an apartment fire July 2019. Devastated to say the least. Renters insurance covered everything including to find us shelter until we found a home. The customer service desk workers were the absolute best I had ever witnessed! Easy to talk to about anything and with very interesting conversations. My hubby would always know where to find me once I had slipped from the room. And the front desk phone would ring every time. lol. I enjoyed the amenity of a free laundry room/weight and exercise room and the continental breakfast. Once or twice a week there would also be wine. Maid service respected wishes and would leave fresh linen and let me clean our room. We both appreciated each other for that exchange. The room was very clean and felt like home. Our kitchen area was the right size for the room and with dishwasher and food disposal. Nice. The fridge was a very size. The bathroom area, omg! The bathroom is what made me want to live there. Big and spacious. Whenever we ran out of anything they would quickly refurnish whatever we needed. Oh, oh, oh the in-hotel store had everything for short stays but was a little expensive. Outside provided bbq areas under a roof. Cozy atmosphere inside or out. I tell you, the best darn service I've experienced.

crisrK735QH (10/5): Cris - Staff was great and room was clean and spacious. Second time staying at this hotel and would keep coming back. Breakfast tacos are a nice addition to the pastries and fruit provided for breakfast. Complementary adult beverages a nice as well.
propermethod (10/5): Clean Rooms! - I have stayed here a few times in the past and every visit my room is clean and I'm greeted with a friendly welcome when I walk into the lobby. All of my encounters with the staff have been very pleasant. They have all been accommodating. I have utilized their well stocked pantry a few times for a late night snack or two (ice-cream). I'll continue to stay here for all my visits to Bay City.
Cruzanth (10/5): Excellent service each week!! - This is my third consecutive week staying at this location. I've been travelling home on the weekends and checking back in each Sunday. Today, I got my dates mixed up and got the wrong room type for my stay this week and the front desk honestly exceeded my expectations in helping me with my situation! I couldn't be more happy with the outcome! This is my third different room type at this location and each one has been clean with new looking furniture and linens.
Jchesser13 (10/5): Great place!!! - I’ve stayed here for a business trip twice in the last month the staff is awesome willing to do anything they can to make your stay as great as possible and the rooms are super clean with nice comfortable beds I will definitely be staying with them every time I come into town!!

They have gone out of their way time and again to make my stay the best that it could be. They are courteous, friendly, and professional. The different types of rooms can accommodate a variety of needs. I will always stay in this hotel every time I come to this city.

richardm7132019 (10/5): Awesome service and extremely nice rooms. - We recently had to temporarily relocate due to unforeseen circumstances and found Candlewood Suites. We were greeted with open arms and the staff exceeded our expectations! We loved the free laundry room/gym, and the convenience of the Candlewood Cupboard. I'm definitely recommending that whoever is reading this stay here. You won't be sorry.
Whiteninja68 (6/5): Where’s my towels? - So check in was fine with the staff being friendly. Upon arriving into the room I had noticed there were no large body towels. I went down and asked for at least one towel but was told there were non available since housekeeping didn’t get around to washing any. I made do with the small towels after my shower the first night. The second day I had to get towels from the front desk. The third day I came back to my room to find my towels were missing again. I had called to the front desk and was told to come back down stairs to pick up a new one. So for some odd reason the cleaning staff thought it was ok to leave me with no large towels for my last night staying here? First time a hotel has been so reluctant on providing towels...
becca_miner (10/5): GREAT HOTEL - This hotel had a very helpful and friendly staff from the moment I arrive to when I left. The rooms were peaceful and clean. The full kitchens were also nice, so I didn’t have to eat out each night. I highly recommend and will be coming back!

632denisep (10/5): Surprisingly good - I don't know why this town is so expensive for hotels but reviews aren't all that great for them either. The Candlewood was a surprising oasis. It was one of the more reasonable places to stay and very nice. Our room was clean, well laid out and bed comfortable. Very nice night. Would choose this place again.

Brent (10/5): Great hotel! - Don't let the 2.5 star general review scare you away as this hotel is 4.5 star caliber. It's brand new, so it's clean, well-appointed (free laundry!), and the staff are exceptionally nice and helpful. Fast WiFi, good cable channel selection, and a very nice desk/dresser combo in the room made it easy to spread out. The rooms are very nice and the decor is simple yet beautiful. Their pantry is well stocked with everything you might want to quickly grab, the gym is nice and a good size, and the free laundry is a nice perk (just bring your own detergent and dryer sheets). Parking is ample and the common areas are comfy. Close to WalMart, McDonalds, Sunoco, and a few coffee shops are just a mile away.
