- Daniel (6/5): the most dirty hotel in Paris - Hotel is terrible dirty. Bathroom is out of any European standards. Only good point is price but next time never ever this hotel.
- Bianca (4/5): Absteige - Zimmer 7: Mäuse in Zimmer
Heizung nicht regulierbar..
Abfluss von Waschbecken und Dusche verstopft..
2 Toiletten außerhalb des Zimmers/ davon eine defekt..
Bett ok und frisch / sauber
Personal hilfsbereit
- HD (2/5): - The worst and dirtiest in the whole city. If u want to get disease.
- Lucas (2/5): - Really old. People not friendly. No elevator. They put me in the 3rd floor and didn’t even ask to help. I don’t recommend at all, ever.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Horrible never again is not clean and the sercice o good
Rimelig. Meget enkel standard. Ligger utenfor selve sentrum, litt «lav standard» miljø men helt ok. Ingen frokost.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good accommodation, close to two metro stations and shops. I recommend for unpretentious people.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed. - My wife and I stayed at Gofen Hotel for 3 nights while on vacation. The location was convenient near the metro station for easy access to the center of Paris. Very tight spiral staircase to rooms, difficult to navigate with any luggage. Staff would not let us check in early (which is fair enough since we arrived 1hr before check in time) but we were told to leave and come back after check in. Although there were no smoking signs, the hotel continually smelled of smoke. However, the condition of our room was the most disappointing. The images online were not reflective of our room. The floor appeared to have not been swept or mopped prior to our arrival, there was dirt and dust on the floor. The worst part of the room for us was the bathroom. It is so small that you must sit on the toilet at an angle so that you don’t hit the sink. Also, the shower appeared to never have been thoroughly cleaned, it was covered in mold/mildew to the point that my wife and I refused to stand in the shower barefoot. Lastly, shower time had to be limited as the shower did not drain well and would overflow. Overall, we will not be returning to this hotel and we would not recommend to anyone.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I wouldn’t want a pet to stay there. Filthy and cramped. Owner a horrid man. We left with 1.5hrs of checking in and found another hotel. Just dreadful
- Kama (2/5): Big Mistake - The hotel is a complete wreck! It needs a very urgent renovation. The room was very small, which wouldn't be an issue if it was kept clean; the toilet was full of mold, there were dirty tissues stuck to the ceiling (I've never seen such a thing in my life)!!! It also smelled of cigarette smoke.
The toilet was falling apart, every time you flushed it, it would leak and create a swimming-pool on the floor. The bed was really uncomfortable and uneven. The only nice thing about the hotel is its location, its close-by the metro.
Over-all the worst 'hotel' I've ever stayed at truely without exaggeration.
- Robert (2/5): - You should send a representative iand see lt yourselves😡 The spiral staircase is ridiculous! and dangerous!! one of the bathrooms doesn’t lock! The toilet is really close to the wall and you could get scratched on the edge😡 the light in the so called hallway above my door does not work and the other light keeps going out and it’s hard to open the door cause you can see so I have to feel and try to open the door😡 the hallway are so tiny that only one person can go through!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Our room had bed bugs. After telling the front desk, they told us they would immediately fumigate the rooms while we were out. We returned and just put us in another room (i seriously doubt they did anything about it) After asking for a refund they categorically refused to give us one, despite the fact that it gave us emotional trauma and we had to spend money on medicine to deal with them.
The service was terrible. They gave 1 towel for 2 people. There was a hole in our floor, and also dirt literally everywhere. The bedsheets were stained, so were the mattresses. The toilet seat didn't stay up so if you had to sit on the toilet it would dig into your back.
The whole building stank like stale cigarette smoke despite no smoking signs everywhere. On top of everything, everyone who worked there were rude from the moment we walked in. Please don't stay here unless you love getting bed bugs and horrible service. Nice location tho.
- Kévin (2/5): A fuir - A fuir ! Inadmissible
- Max (2/5): Absolutely disgusting. BED BUGS, stolen items - Absolutely disgusting. As many people have responded before, this place looks nothing like the pictures. The stairs are dirty, falling apart and treacherous. When we arrived the guy at the desk couldn’t find our room key but wouldn’t tell us what was going on. He then decided to give us the master key for a room which he then told us “This is the mater key, whenever you want to leave you have to leave it with us because we can’t let you take it.” From there on I knew something wasn’t right. We carried our suitcases up the sketchy staircase and when we opened our room, other people’s stuff was thrown about (makes sense why he couldn’t find the key right?). We carried everything back down, he found another key to give us on an even higher floor and we finally had a room. The room was nasty. Paper thin mattress, windows that didn’t open more than an inch, a toilet lid held up by a rubber band, toilet paper stuffed in the ceiling tiles to prevent the fan from being ridiculously loud, exposed pipes everywhere, a door that didn’t latch unless it was locked and a door frame that was shattered in multiple places. We thought it was clean until the last day we were there when we found BED BUGS. Lovely. On top of all of this, my girlfriends North Face jacket when conveniently missing during our stay. We are incredibly disgusted, disappointed, and frustrated with our stay here. STEER CLEAR.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - broken toilet, dirty rooms, broken furniture, doors and lights that did not work.Room was not cleaned in the 6 days we were there. No wash cloths, hand towels and i have a severe rash from sheets on bed. My friend could not turn around in shower or bathroom it was so tiny. window would not close properly. The staff did not seem to care and when we complained we were blamed for the problem.photo on website did not look like any room i saw and i went into 3 rooms. Once paid for rooms no way out no refunds!!! Made best of a bad place
- Rita (2/5): Very bad experience - It was very noisy hotel. Room was just ok. They knew I had my 7 years old child was with me, the room they gave me has opened shower with no separate walls. How can someone have shower in front of a child. I went back and spoke to the receptionist and then she changed my room with additional £40 charges. In the other room we could not sleep as there was a leakage in the toilet. Tv was not working even. Very bad service. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Ohe (2/5): Terrible stay at hotel gofen - The stay was absolutely horrific. When we arrived, the checkin process was delayed by 25 minutes so we ended up checking in around 2.30pm. That was annoying itself. We were told that the room we booked did not include a toilet so we had an additional fee added onto our total bill (which was not clearly explained on the website). When we went to our room i thought we were going to be poisoned. The smell was toxic - we initially put it down to the bleach. When we arrived later, the smell was still there. It smelt like a dead rat, faeces, urine and a dead body mixed together with urine. I do not understand how something is so horrific. No beach or cleaning fluid could eradicate the smell. When we requested a room change the next morning they were hesitant and dismissive and did not believe us. After 45 minutes of debating we got another room which also smelt terrible. My girlfriend and i decided to leave the hotel that night as we refused to stay in something that miserable. Sleeping in a dustbin would have been better (no exaggeration). They have promised me a refund so i am waiting for the refund - if i hear nothing i will contact hotels.uk to claim my refund rightfully. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
- Monica (6/5): - This property wasn't entirely bad, for the price we paid; however, my friend and I were unimpressed. Note that there is no storage room for your luggage when you drop off before check-in, only a secluded corner on the first floor. I didn't feel like it was entirely secure, but I have a lock on my luggage, so it was fine. Also note that there is no elevator, so you have to carry your bags up a narrow, spiral staircase. We were on the first floor, so it wasn't terrible, but I feel bad for those who were on the floors above and over-pack. If you're looking for a basic, economy room, and don't mind minor inconveniences, this could be the place for you. Our first impression of this place wasn't great, but we kind of got used to it after a couple of days.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It looks nothing like the photos, it wasnt clean and we refused to stay at this hotel. Luckily we were able to get a room else where at our expense.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed here for 9 nights and I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I arrived at Hotel Gofen on 30/11/18 with my partner at around midday, as we were only visiting Paris for 4 days. We didn't explore the room when checking in, instead we went to see the sights. When we arrived back at our room that evening around 22:00, we discovered the absolute horrendous state the bathroom was in. I honestly don't they had cleaned that bathroom in about 10 years, and this is evident in the pictures attached to this review. The receptionist couldn't speak any English and my partner and I couldn't speak French therefore when we tried to explain the issue with the bathroom to the receptionist she couldn't understand what I was saying therefore I called Expedia. Expedia have been so supportive of the situation, they took it upon themselves to contact the hotel themselves, placed my partner and I in a different much better hotel, Hotel Gare De Nord, which is absolutely brilliant. The woman on the reception at the Hotel Gofen was extremely rude, tried convincing me that the hotel "is no five star, it is a 1 star", i showed her evidence that on Expedia it is rated a 2.5/5.0, She called me a liar. She refused for me to speak to the manager.
When I booked this hotel, I will be honest I was not expecting much, I did look at the reviews and thought, this holiday to Paris for my partner and I was meant to be a budget holiday so I hoped it could have been tolerable, but when I arrived it was a completely different story.
- O (8/5): - Hotel close to the metro, many affordable restaurants around.
- Ariana (2/5): - This hotel was nothing like the pictures and reviews suggest. It is approx. 30 mins outside of central Paris with little amenities around. The concierge did not speak a word of English. When we used a translation app, he was still not helpful and did not give us change when we overpaid for the room tax. It was about 3-4 euros, we gave him a 5 euro bill, and he said we could come back later for the change, only to never receive it. The hotel was supposedly non-smoking, but the hallways smelled of cigarette smoke and the rooms were equipped with ashtrays. The icing on the cake was that the toilet seat was missing from our toilet. Yup, there was a lid and a bowl, but no seat. The pictures and reviews listed are completely inaccurate and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Shamila (2/5): Hotel Gofen - Conveniently located near metro but a very uncomfortable place. Not suitable for travellers with health issues.
Overall appearance of hotel and surrounds very grim.
- david (8/5): - Nice hotel close to a metro station. an so many restaurants in the area
- Tanvi (2/5): DO NOT RECOMMEND - Service: When we checked in for our stay, we were "upgraded" to a triple room, and we were told that we would be moved the next day. We were told this each day of our stay- so we had our bags fully packed each day, but were never moved. Communication with staff was also a challenge at times
Hotel: It's like a tall narrow townhouse with a narrow winding staircase down the middle with rooms not just on floors, but in between floors too. If you have heavy luggage, it can be a challenge to get up.
Room: The room was TINY, probably to be expected in Paris. When you enter the room, you basically enter the "bathroom" which is a shower cubicle that is so tiny that if you raise your arms to wash your hair, you hit the wall. After that another steep staircase down to enter the bedroom. My 6 foot tall husband would have definitely hit his head on the ceiling if not careful. The toilet was located was such that if you close the door, your face is an inch from door
Cleanliness: A few cigarette burns on side tables but overall was clean when given to use. No housekeeping really during our stay.
Guests: We didn't really see other guests, but it seemed like the folks working there also lived there?
Location: located between 2 different metro lines- a 15-20 min ride to most major areas. Simplon, definitely felt like it wasn't in a safe area- we tried to avoid it especially at night. Jules Joffrin, the other metro station is a slightly longer walk but felt safer
- Nadine (4/5): - The hotel is very poor the area is grim and felt unsafe. I had no toilet seat and the shower had not been cleaned after the last guest before me. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the bed was comfortable
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unpleasant hotel - There was just a horrendous smell in the hotel, like old smoke mixed with sewer. There were cigarette burns all over the sheets. The shower cabin was in the room, but the door was missing so the whole floor got wet every time we took a shower. They only changed the rubbish bins, never cleaned anything. The communal toilet was always very dirty, whether inside the bowl, or even on the seat. We were awoken at least a few times every night (we stayed 5 nights) because people were screaming on the street. It was just a very unpleasant hotel to stay at. The only plus side is that is was close to two separate metro lines.
- John (4/5): Wouldn't recommend - The room was very small and not very clean. It was really noisy during the nights, and kept my daughter and I up quite a bit. Beds were uncomfortable and small. Bathroom was tiny and not very clean.
Ended up just being somewhere to sleep. Didn't spoil our trip as we stayed out from early morning to late at night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): very budget hotel in rundown area - It was adequate as a base for exploring Paris.Conveniently close to Metro station.
- Julio (2/5): - I stayed at this hotel for a week. the worst nightmare of my life. the entrance a dark corridor with a small hole where you supposedly check in. then a terrible narrow stairs smelly. to climb four floors to my room. which was horrible smelled badly the small bath full of mold and even the hinodoro had a true lama inside. I smelled terrible cigarette. the bed that was suppose to be double were two small uncomfortable joints and separated while you slept. a room that between the bathroom and the bed you can not even walk. They do not clean your room, they just leave you with a hand every morning for the shower. from the other apartments they see you even when you are swimming. No closet. It was located in an ugly dangerous neighborhood full of homeless people. It's scary to arrive. the worst nightmare of my life. Not a star. really disgusting
- ir (6/5): Last option hotel - the room is very small for a triple room. Enter the room through the shower and going down couple stairs to the actual room. Toilet is very small cant even stand properly if the door closed. Shower is very small spaces. even though the housekeeping change the towel but the floor is dusty.
But the bed is clean and comfortable. From my stay, it is a quiet stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Hotel - Very close to town, clean rooms. I was able to walk to the church in about 15 minutes.
- Darren (6/5): Basic Budget Hotel in Good Location - Superb location near to 2 metro stations, Simplon (line 4) & Jules Joffrin (line 12)
with plenty of Shops, Supermarkets, Restaurants and Bars in the vicinity.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
There was no lift and the stairs were tight, so may be a problem for anyone with mobility issues.
The room was basic, offering a double bed, small folding table, TV, telephone and shower,
but was clean and comfortable. Toilet Rolls and clean Towels were replenished when required.
The shared toilets were mostly clean and adequate, the one day there was an issue,
we reported it and the situation was quickly resolved.
If looking for a basic budget hotel in Paris, I would certainly recommend this one,
However, if looking for 5* facilities and service, I suggest you pay a 5* price, ;-)
- Joanna (8/5): Budget-friendly room, but only book if last option - Stay was alright. The room was ok. Shower and sink in suite but the shower was not very clean. The room was good. Temperature was warm for the winter. Only problem was the bathroom that was shared on the floor. Very dirty and sometimes did not even have toilet paper. I wouldn't recommend if you can find a place with a better bathroom situation. Also, no elevator and staircase is so narrow, it is hard to carry your bags up to your room!
- Diana (2/5): Stay away - Terrible experience. Cramped and filthy, this place should rename itself a hostel at best, definitely not a hotel.
We checked in and I immediately flagged issues to Expedia as the room was not at all representative of what was promised at the time of booking. We were told a manager would need to sign off on a refund for any unused nights and we would need to wait for a few days for the manager to be present. We were initially told no, but we persisted and finally got a refund for the nights we weren’t there over two weeks later.
Room itself wasn’t large enough to walk around the bed if you had a small bag on the floor. Standing shower is very small and barely tall enough for someone who is 5’6”. Both nights we were there some neighbors had parties in the rooms next door until the wee hours. We found out the window (which looked back out onto a shared roof area filled with garbage and dirty clothes) could easily be pushed opened when the window was locked, which lead to us immediately leave for another hotel while we waited for the manager to be in and for Expedia to deal within the issue.
The toilet had only one side that wasn’t directly against a wall, the only hooks that were in the room were on a panel that wasn’t secured to the wall. The establishment “closes” at midnight, which they neglected to mention at the time of booking or even when we checked in - instead it’s written on a piece of paper in the hallway.
Thankful to expedia for their help.
- Boney (2/5): Very disappointed - Very dirty room, never clean the bathroom or the floor change sheets or change towels for nine days that we were staying have to asked for toilet tissue.
Don’t recommend this place for anyone.

- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid this hotel - Horrible horrible horrible. Have no idea why it is called a hotel and have a star.
The room is full of dust, shower sink is blocked, the lamp wouldn't work ... you have to go downstairs to ask for it several times.
The guy at a reception couldn't change a room because it was the last room of this type they had. He offered a room with no bathroom which was silly idea to change if I paid for a room with a separate bathroom..
The dust everywhere reallly made it uncomfortable to breath and nobody really bothered to vacuum.
In the evening some people next door started smoking hell knows what which made a corridor horribly stinky and I had to keep the window open all the time at night (they advertised that the room was non smoking though).
I understand this is a budget hotel but even budget hotels can be hygienic and tidy.
- izhar (2/5): - very service
- Stormtrooper (4/5): Comfort No, Price Yes - Slept next to a bright hotel sign, a busy noisy street, and a shower the would not drain. Overall for the price and closeness to the metro, sure it was alright. If you are the sensitive type to complain about many things then look elsewhere. The room could be less depressing with its interior design and decor also. Lovely grocery stores, cafes, and a bakery near too. For an experience in a less tourist like area - try it out. The is no elevador and the stairs is tight.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff at reception were very friendly and the location was really great. However
whoever was cleaning my room wasn't doing his job. Once they put dirty and wet towels on top of my dry and clean clothes and never bothered to change the bedding.
- Mallary (6/5): Stay as a last option only - No one helped me carry my one heavy suitcase. I was supposed to have a non smoking room but there was an ashtray in the room, so they clearly DO allow smokers in the building. My curtain had some gross stains on it. I don't know what the stains were but they made me not want to go near the window
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I'd say it's great value for small money, and we only slept here. Not a really comfortable room
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't stay here - This place is horrible. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. We had booked for 4 nights and left after 1 night. There were bites on my skin. The room smelt like ciggarettes, the bathroom was mould. It was just disgusting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): convenient location just outside city cener - This was a convenient location just outside of the main city center but still within the old town. There are two different metro stops within walking distance and several bus services. The hotel itself was very cosy and comfortable and great value for money. The radiator kept the room warm. Even though there was a shared toilet, I never had to wait to use it.
- Denise (10/5): - It was a pleasant
- frank (4/5): - For the price and metro around the corner, it fit the bill. If you're comfortable in a dorm like setting, this is for you.
- Margarida (8/5): Better than expected, not 5* - Better than I expected based on the other reviews. I stayed in a double bed room with shared toilet. The toilet was clean even though it was outside the room it was in the same floor. The room was clean and we got new pack of shower gel and soap every day. The metro Station (Simplon) was right at the end of the street and was very convenient to reach all major attractions, also close to supermarkets, patisseries and take aways.
Not as good: the shower (inside the room) didn't have a door, but if you were careful it was fine; the window didn't lock that well but we were on a 1st floor and it was to warm at night to keep it closed anyway; you could hear the TV from the next room but it wasn't really that bad.
- Jenae (6/5): Affordable - The people there were really nice. I had issues with the 2-sided key door. I got locked in my room and out of my room because of it. Once I remember how to turn the key in the door, I didn't get locked in or out. The window doesn't really shut close, so I cannot tell if someone was smoking outside my window or next door. Either way, I smelled cigarette smoke most of the nights I was there. The area around at night was loud but that didn't bug me. There are bars on either end of the street, so might get hit on by unsavory people like I did. The toilet does not have a sink next to it. You have to go back to your room to wash your hands. That was annoying and unhygienic. The toilet area is very small. Enough room to fit the toilet and a garbage can. The stairs spirals up in a tight area. They did clean the rooms and left towels for me. If the potential of smelling smoke doesn't bug you, I say the price is okay for the stay.
- Paris Traveller (8/5): Great location, very tight bathroom and stairs! - This hotel is about 30m away from the metro line 4. The metro line we were on was really easy to get to different lines on as it has Gare Du Nord and Les Halles and Chatelet. It meant instead of changing lines multiple times we just had to change once.
The hotel is a bit small, but space in Paris is at a premium so if you want spacious go stay outside of Paris, or pay 5* prices. Small winding staircase into our room which had a bed, 2 bedside tables, 2 lamps, a fold out table and a tv. The bedroom was an ok size and for a long weekend stay it was perfectly adequate. The bathroom was quite cramped, however still usable.
For the price we paid we were pretty happy with our stay here due to the location.
- Clark (2/5): Cheap - For $30 US, I really can't complain. I didn't realize until my last night that my room door didn't actually lock. That's a plot to a horror film.
- Daniel (4/5): Traumatizing and bad for your health - Rooms look nothing like wha they look like on here. You can expect dirty ashtrays, blankets with burn holes in them, you have to leave your key at the front desk when you leave, cigarette smoke wafting through your window all night (and you have to keeep your window open because there is no A/C). My shower had a clogged drain and was overflowing onto the bathroom floor. One electrical outlet per room.
- Daniel (8/5): Great value for price - It's a basic hotel, but the beds seem new, smelled clean and the owner was very nice and tolerated my broken French. It's one of these foreign hotels where you leave the key at the desk when you leave, so Americans may find that surprising. Supermarket only a few yards away. Monmartre is charming. I will be back next week.
- Verified traveler (2/5): terrible - This is a hostel, not a hotel. The room is extremely small. Terrible neighbourhood. Loud noises. Though, claimed as non smoking rooms, people are smoking anyway from the window, so you can't open the window.
- Elizabeth (2/5): Disappointed - The room reserved for me was very awful very bad can't stand to spend 1 nights I am very sad and disappointed
- victor (2/5): terrible hotel - very terrible experience from this hotel. small room without no view from the window. in the night you hear all the voices from other room.
- Jasmine (8/5): Great stay in Paris - Perfect for our 2 night stay, close to metro and supermarket at the end of the road. Room got quite hot, even with windows open due to shower being in the room, but everything else was simple and ideal for what we needed.
- john (6/5): Cheap hotel just for sleeping in - Low cost no frills hotel, good front door security and close to 2 metro stations walking distance to some attractions
- Benjamin (6/5): - Hotel was nice. People friendly. Did not expect shared toilets to be on stairs
- unhappy tourist (4/5): Below average hotel in below average area - Room looked good at first glance until I entered the bathroom. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. There was still hair on the floor and large clumps of hair in the shower that clogged up the drain causing it to flood and leak all over he bathroom floor and into the room. The bed was uncomfortable. The area wasn't that great with the need to walk always looking down for fear of standing on doggie poo.
- Mr X (4/5): on 4th floor, no lift, only spiral staircase - I wouldn't actually call this a hotel more like a hostel, there was suppose to be 24 hours reception
but there was no-one around, when it was all kicking off in the room next door to us at 2.30am till
about 6am, we where very scared as we didn't know what was actually going on, as we couldn't understand the language, we couldn't wait to leave that morning
- Verified traveler (6/5): - you want us to write about our experience but in the (what, if any thing, could be improved) box it doesn't let you continue after two lines why on earth is that the case! We should not be limited to express our views so I would
appreciate that you amend that particular box for future use asap.
- Verified traveler (6/5): It worked! - Our stay worked well for us as we were gone all day and we just needed a place in the evenings to sleep. I don't know if we will stay in another hotel with a shared bathroom for us personally. The bathroom was always clean though when we used it. Our shower door didn't work properly and we had a bright light that shown into our room even with the curtain shut but we were so tired each night from sightseeing it didn't really matter. Also, our double bed was two twins together that separated if we tried to sleep in the middle of the bed. We liked the location close to the Metro access, grocery store, bakery and restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice - Amazing set out, perfect place to stay staff very kind food shops open till late night.
