Guest Reviews
- Eric (10/5): - If you need to grab the ferry this is the best place
- Abraham (10/5): - Great and friendly staff, good location and very nice rooms.
- Said (4/5): - Staff are dirty and unprofessional. The first day I had breakfast, the lady serving me was wearing a very dirty trouser, she was not hygienic at all.
The sheets on the bed had a big hole which was shocking.
I’m a big coffee drinker, when I travel I move around with my coffee and I love making coffee in my room. I was shocked to see the kettle in my room, how dirty it was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - For a short stay, rest location, comfy bed, good AC.
- Hitesh (10/5): - We only needed to stay for one night and this was prefect, clean rooms, good facilities and helpful staff.
- Said (6/5): - I travel to zanzibar for business frequently and it’s always had to find places to stay when it’s high season. I have stayed at this property over a year ago a couple of times and was never happy with the stayed at this hotel months ago and was never happy. I thought after a year I will give them another chance but it’s the same. Disappointing really.
- Shabbir (6/5): - I really would love to write a good review, however would not be fair if I didnt be honest...
Building exterior is beautiful, modern yet nice touches of authentic Zanzibar architecture. Location is good, right across the Ferry Docks.
We were told it is a 4 minute walk from Ferry. Pulled our bags and started to walk...there was absolutely no visible sign from the road on the property, its hidden from the main road, and when we asked the locals, nobody seemed to know about it. We walked in the scorching heat lugging our bags for at least half an hour if not more. Finally flagged down a tuk tuk to take us there.we had apparently passed it and were almost in the centre of the Darajani Market by then.
The taxis and tuk tuks all had difficulty finding the place. Next to it was Golden Tulip which had proper signs, perfectly paved entrance and visible from the road...too bad, started off with negative vibes!
Also two out of three days we were there, the elevator was out of service with no sign of any repairs to it. We are seniors and doing the stairs was not easy, and unacceptable for so long.
Staff was nice, breakfast was not bad. Rooms were super small. Ours had no view, just a building like two feet away...
Also the little road leading to the hotel is horrible, many bajaj drivers refused to come to the entrance..could easily be fixed/maintained by the Property.
Would i go back to this hotel? Probably not...
- Jean Baptiste (2/5): - Nothing special
- Sakina (6/5): - The rooms are clean but really small.
Bathroom was clean and nice hot water.
We got a queen bed room and the room is basically the size of the queen bed 2ft on each side of the bed.
The only way we could open a full size suitcase was to put it on the bed.
Location is good. Its like a 2 minute walk to the Zanzibar ferry station.
Breakfast is excellent. Fresh fruit juices, freshly made eggs.
- ABDULHAMEED (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff very courteous and accommodating, rooms nice and clean. It’s conveniently located, right in the heart of the city where everything is easily accessible either by walk or by cab. Will definitely return when back in Zanzibar.
- Hendrik (10/5): - From check in until check out the staff we're extremely friendly and helpful. They also provided excellent recommendations for shopping, dining, and activities as well. The internet was strong and fast which allowed me to continue to work while on vacation. Highly recommended!
- Lothar (4/5): - In our opinion, not even close to the Best Western standard, we got to know from other country. Far below expectations. Even having to struggle during 1 week for reasonable Internet connections, moving around between rooftop terrace and reception area to find reasonable connection. Breakfast surprisingly poor.
- MELINA (8/5): - Did not get a perfect score because the area around the property was a bit undeseriable
- Jennifer (2/5): - bugs
- Martha (6/5): - xxx
- Kenovia (8/5): - The breakfast experience was quite nice, the waterfall wall makes the entrance smell damp. I booked the best room they had. It was fine. The hot water in the shower was mediocre but the rainwater shower head was nice. Overall. I would return.
- hayat (2/5): - À désastre
- Angela (8/5): - the staff was very helpful
- Omar (4/5): - Roaches crawling on us while sleeping,tv not working, one bright light for room no lamps, shower not draining properly, mosquito spray odor throughout room, breakfast was not worth mentioning! Bed sheets were not fully clean.Definitely not worth the amount of money charged or ratings it received on orbitz
- Mustafa (2/5): - Breakfast was great. Other than that nothing was positive; batroom was leaking, sheets was disgusting (blood marks on all sheets) ,roaches around the room. Worst thing is according to staff these are ok and I am making them a problem because I am Muslim. Thanks to the lady who came in the morning otherwise, they would capture me there one more day since I already paid for two nights.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The conditions on my room were poor. My sheets had stains and my towels and washcloths were damp and stained. I was not given a key to my room so I had to have the front desk open my room for me every time. My tv didn’t work in the room. The door had a crack at the top that allowed mosquitoes to get in. I slept on top on the covers and used my clothes to cover the pillows. I would not stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - the staff was nice, but on the room; very dirty sheets and blankets. had stains on them. flickering lights in the bathroom made it dark. really dusty. roaches running around. you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A little on the noisy side during the day. In the heart of Stone Town and across from the port and ferry so that's to be expected. Centrally located close to everything. Nice view from rooftop bar.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is ok, I have so far stayed at the hotel more than 4 times. The rooms are clean but very small for the price. Breakfast is mediocre, not worth having it at the hotel. You better off going elsewhere for breakfast and paying money. They serve instant coffee while every hotel in Stonetown serves fresh coffee. The restaurant staff are not trained to provide good customer service they are just there to be at work but you don’t see that they are not happy. I had to wash my Apple one day and managed to enter the kitchen. It’s terrible, if I had seen that kitchen I wouldn’t have had any meal in their restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very good location and nice hotel, staff was friendly
- Ammar (8/5): Nice clean place in the center of town - Modern hotel and right in the center of town (a lot of the Stone Town hotels are slightly dated or missing services like elevators etc), rooms are clean and super comfy. Not much in terms of room service when we were there during lunch time but there are a ton of restaurants nearby, and they have a rooftop bar which opened in the evening
- Brenda (10/5): - The staff is very kind, professional and courteous.
- Mohamed (6/5): - sttaf was not helpful
The rooms are noisy and have no sound insulation
- Andrea (10/5): Good stay - Good stay. Great transfer service especially because I arrived at a ridiculous time. Good location in city, easy walking to the sights.
- Jacek (2/5): - Location is good, everything other is terrible, more like a hostel than a 4* hotel, only cold water under shower, very loud and not good breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, comfortable room, superb roof top restaurant staff, totally wonderful place
- Nancy (10/5): - Friendliness. Everyone treated us as special. The food was great. The staff helpful. I will be returning. Also the central location was awesome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were very friendly and helpful; the location (at the edge of Stone Town) was great.
Only glitch was the shower head being faulty, causing an unexpected and painful scalding. Was immediately fixed upon reporting it to staff, though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - LOCATION AND CLEANLINESS, LOTS OF PLACES TO EAT NEARBY
- KD (8/5): - It's not too far from the airport. The rooms were clean. Great for the price.
- Shanti (4/5): Not staying here again! - Got my room and the electricals were not working. The kettle and fridge in the room were not working. Even the safe didn't work.I tried plugging in my phone at all outlets but none of them worked. Called room service but no one came so next morning, I went down to complain. They said they didn't have another room but I insisted on moving to a better room. I was finally moved to the other room after much persistence.
During check out, I was charged $4.00 more so I asked and the man at the front desk said I should tell my friends to pay $4.00 less on their bill coz I got charged the $4.00. I was shocked by his answer but didn't want to argue with the man as there were more people lined up behind me. When my friends checked out of the hotel and were paying their bill, they were being charged $20.00 more. After checking their restaurant bills, it was obvious that other room restaurant charges were being charged to my friend's room. Restaurant bills from other room charges had their room numbers canceled and were being charged to my friend's bill. Even the name on the charges of the bills was not my friend's name so it was obvious that wrong charges are deliberately being charged to the rooms with lots of restaurant bills as most people don't bother to check and just pay their bills. After much arguing, the man at the front desk finally decided to waive off the $20.00.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice hotel next to ferry port and beach. Excllent staff and service Good breakfast. Very resonably priced
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The place was clean, rooms very small, lift very small
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a great hotel, clean and nice rooms, friendly staff, good atmosphere
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were awesome. Room was excellent . Loved my bathroom & great water pressure
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms ws ok.. staff helpfull. Food was ok.. overall good
- KM (10/5): - Nice and clean and easy walking distance to sites.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No room key the entire time I was there (just an endless series of excuses). Every time I went to my room, I had to be let in by Reception staff. As for the room itself, it was under a pizza joint they have on their roof and so had to endure endless scraping noises on my ceiling from chairs being moved around on their tiled floor. Breakfast (not full as advertised, more continental) is served in a shed in the garden. They allege this place is 4 star. What?! Best Western accredited? Either Best Western has very low standards, they do not monitor or they just don't care.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfy beds and the staff in all areas is really helpful, we had a good experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - overall a comfortable stay for two nights. Clean room and hotel, good location, but lacking in amenities.
- Bronwyn (10/5): A little gem in Zanzibar. - Excellent location to the town, opposite the ferry terminal/harbour. Staff were excellent from check in to maintaining and cleaning the room. The drinks on the rooftop bar were great after hot day sightseeing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. Rooms on the smaller size, however just what we needed. Aircon worked well and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooftop bar was a highlight with views of the sunset.
- Paul (6/5): Ok hotel - It was ok
- R (10/5): - Friendly staff, ready to help
Enjoyed my stay and will consider in future!
- Nicholas (10/5): Value for money - Stay was excellent. Very staff went out of their way to help with whatever I needed. Will definitely recommend staying here.
- Ton (8/5): - Room a bit smaller than expected. Location ok but a bit built in between other buildings and access/exit road by car inconvenient.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fantastic location! View from rooftop beautiful! Everything is so close and so accessible! Owner Bud is such a lovely lovely man!
Highly recommend esp if taking ferry from Dar! Awesome location!
- Amin (6/5): - The breakfast was very poor. It does not meet the standards of Best Western Plus. The employees moral in the restaurant was also very low.
3 of the 4 orders were delivered to us that were incorrect. Needs a lot of staff training.
- Osams (10/5): - Clean hotel in stone town and beside very close to the beach
- Verified traveler (8/5): - When searching Expedia for hotels with pools, this property comes up in the results, but it does not have a pool. It does have excellent breakfast options, a good (sometimes very good) restaurant, and staff that are incredibly friendly. Nothing is quite perfect--on any given day, there's no hot water or the wi-fi isn't working right or bottled water was not replenished in the room--but at this price point, that's to be expected. The "street" leading to the hotel is a partially-paved, pot-holed track and if you arrive at night, you'll be wondering if the taxi driver is lost or has kidnapped you. The location is a bit far from the main sights of Stone Town but that probably keeps it quieter at night.
- nthabiseng (10/5): Best Western simply the Best! - We really enjoyed ourselves... The service was great from airport to the hotel.. Warm welcome, our rooms, the staff... We were a handful but the staff was very accomodative. For breakfast i would suggest they do buffet, even if its not every day.. The Excursion desk was very helpful we managed to visit various places including the nightclub... Which completed our visit perfectly so. Thanx.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good breakfast. Near port. Huge balcony :):):):):):)
- Latonnia (10/5): - The property was centrally located. The staff was simply amazing! From helping me navigate the city to helping me find a charging cord for my Iphone after my old one died (thank you, Sadiki!) they went above and beyond to make my stay wonderful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our stay was very nice. Staff was super friendly and very helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): Helpful Staff - The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There were a few obstacles on both sides starting with a cancelled flight. They went out of their way to make it work.
The hotel is beautiful. Would love to stay with them again.
- Lisa (10/5): Relaxing stay in Stonetown - Lovely modern hotel, clean, friendly and helpful staff.
- shannon (4/5): Best Thieving at the Best Western - We had $300 stolen from our Best Western room in June 2018. Best Western management were unconcerned even though CCTV footage showed that the only person (except us) to enter the room was a house keeper, who had no need to go there as we stayed for one night and there was no turn down service.
We had hoped that the hotel would investigate this robbery, but they have ignored our emails despite promising to follow this up.
All up we were very disappointed in our stay.
Please be careful of your belongings if you stay here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This hotel is in a great location if you
- Naseem (8/5): Value For Money 💰 - Best Western -Stone Town, is located within 15 minutes of the International Airport. The service was excellent and the staff went the extra mile to make us comfortable. The rooms were clean and well maintained.Perfect for short stays.
- Riti (8/5): Good location! - We had an enjoyable stay at best western in Zanzibar. Great location, we walked around everywhere to the markets, palace, waterfront etc! Nice, clean room with large bathroom. Only problem was with mosquitos in the room, however every evening someone would come to spray the room with mosquito repellent. Parking restricted and high level of congestion on road next to hotel. Otherwise
- Rossana (8/5): Good location, fresh hotel. - This was a lovely hotel in a great location. The rooms were fresh and comfortable and the staff were very helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): One night was enough - Things to like:
2 min walk to ferry
Short walk to many other Stone Town
Rooms clean
Bed comfortable
Bathroom enormous, especially compared with the room size
Things I didn’t love:
Room pretty small
No thought given to noise reduction - from streets and hall ways and construction next door (can hear absolutely everything - need earplugs)
Food - often don’t have things on the menu
Service a bit average
Reception could do with a makeover - it’s a bit tacky - colour, stuff everywhere, crowded, lacking personality and welcoming feel
Check in - too busy answering the phone to give appropriate attention
No hot water in bathroom, despite leaving switch on
Gardens need grass cutting
Wouldn’t stay again - too noisy and not great value for money
- sulieman (4/5): Very small rooms - Stayed only one day and left due to the very small room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Experience!! - Great experience! The bed was great comfort! The service was equally amazing. We requested a different room than the one initially assigned and was easily accommodated. The staff are very courteous and swift to attend to needs. The location is ideal as well: Very close to the port and boats to prison island. Will recommend to anyone!
- Hassan (8/5): - Is exactly the way I pictured it, the hotel staffs were friendly, courteous and we even cracked jokes some few times, The hotel it's just some few meters away from the beach, within the stone town and you also get to meet some fellow tourist along the way.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Very clean and beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Entrance is off a side road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and cozy hotel - Nice and cozy hotel, clean and walking distance to much of Stone Town. Staff was nice and friendly and hotel food was decent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at the Best Western - I spent 6 nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Everyone who worked there was very kind and they even helped me book some last minute tours. The rooms were a bit small but nice and mine even included a little balcony. It’s very easy to find since it is right across from the port and very close to the old dispensary ( it definitely helped having a near by landmark).
I would definitely recommend this hotel— Salum and Agnes were great!
- Krysten (8/5): - People talking on the ground floor travels all the way up to other floors because of the open area in the middle of the building with the waterfall. So you can hear everything early in the morning and late at night through your room doors. Not too quiet and woke me up a couple of times.
- Malcolm (10/5): Very nice hotel for a visit to Zanzibar - I have stayed at many Best Western hotels in many countries but I would rate this one as one of the best.
From the manager Salum Abdalla and all the staff nothing but the very best of service was given at all times. From myself and my wife, I would like to express my deepest thanks for making our stay a very memorable one despite the poor weather, thank you Malcolm Young.
