- James (6/5): Enjoyed the hotel and the staff, didn't like where the hotel was but plenty of coastal path to walk - Beautiful building with a fair attempt at modernisation. Staff were amazing, so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the building and the area.
Provided an awesome dog bed for my little lad. He loved it. The hotel sits in a pretty grim part of town, there were constant junkies hanging around, broken glass everywhere outside and 24/7 blue lights and sirens.
The double bed was not big enough for 2 people, it was only slightly larger than a single bed. My partner fell out of bed every night.
- Alexandra (7/5): - Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful; definitely going the extra mile for their customers
Very central location and a beautiful historic building Cooked breakfast items weren't very warm
- Sharon (9/5): -
- Dave (8/5): -
- Carl (10/5): Very good, happy experience. - Room very clean. Nothing, all good.
- Heather (5/5): Great but need more staff! - Very central and clean The bar was supposed to be open but there were no staff so couldn’t have a drink! It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely bar area.
- Bjoern (7/5): -
- Gillian (4/5): Disappointing - Location
Reasonable No hot water & no reception staff to report to upon checkout
No response to emails & messages after stay to address this
Noisy banging pipes/water system through night

- Heather (5/5): The staff were helpful and did their best, but the company needs to attend to its shortcomings. - Location was ideal. Breakfast was good except that there didn't seem to be sufficient quantities and the staff had to keep refilling the trays. There didn't seem to be sufficient staff on the second morning either. Room was shabby, WiFi on TV was intermittent so this affected the ability to watch programmes. I am not that short but neither am I very tall, and I had to climb onto the window sill to open the window and stretch to reach the blind cord. Also the soap dispenser over the basin was positioned way too high. There was no information in the room about breakfast times and location, and I had a lot of problems with my key card. Finally, when I was leaving I passed the open door of the cleaner's store, and was shocked by the appalling state of the decorating: peeling paint and plaster, bare boards etc. The whole hotel was in need of an upgrade. Grand it ain't.
- Clare (8/5): Ideal for what we wanted - A lovely old building near the station & the football ground The rooms were a bit tired
- Bryan (3/5): Disappointing as there was no hot water in the room for a shower in the morning. - Location No hot water
- Andrew (5/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): -
- sylvia (9/5): - Thank you gor making to bed room up for my friend wedding nightv
- amanda (2/5): Sorry won’t be back am afraid - It was very central The room was such a poor standard and the bed was auful
- Catherine (1/5): Won’t be staying again due to all the problems - Location It’s very tired and need lots of work to update. We had no hot water and was told this was a safety aspect but the water was just tepid even though there were several notices on the wall stating very hot water. Also there was lots of noise from the floor above that prevented us sleeping. We had stayed here several times before with no problems but this was a really bad experience and we also paid more than ever and it really wasn’t worth it
- Bridgette (7/5): Hope this gem survives - Such a beautiful building. The renovation is superb. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Nice and comfortable room. Good breakfast. Dog friendly which is great! Amazing restaurant in the basement. Apart from the few below, I would definitely stay here again. The water to the shower was cold- i'd read this on other reviews. As this was our only night, I braved it! Lamp broken, and a few things in the bathroom. Very few selection of drinks in the bar...no wine!
- Alia (4/5): - Friendly reception staff. The bed, even tho I slept horribly due to the sounds, was pretty comfy. The windows are single glazing. You could hear EVERYTHING going on outside. The pipes made the same noise on the hour every hour. The bedding wasn't completely clean. The TV didn't work.
- Paul (7/5): -
- Alex Hynes (7/5): - Great property location, easy to access, and friendly staff. Rooms good size, and quiet to the rear of the hotel. Very limited car parking options, car park next to the property is owned by the council and not permitted to be parked in. On-street parking to front of property was available, but limited.
Rooms could do with a little TLC to bring up to a good maintenance standard.
- David (10/5): - Everything
- Carole (10/5): - The staff that we saw couldn't have been better i am disabled and the help I got was over and beyond the hotel is situated in the center of town so great access to the beach the triconallee and the shops we will definitely come back thank you There was nothing not to like
- Casabonsai (6/5): The hotel needs updates, it is old and worn! - The bed was small, but of good quality. The windows were screwed shut, the floors were squeeking, the shower had no pressure, breakfast was very limited not much choice for restaurants nearby.
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely spacious room. The bed was extremely comfortable. The receptionist was very welcoming and provided informative assistance. The shower took a long time for the hot water to come though.
- Dipti (6/5): - Travel to sell of the property Booked for couple but I couldn't travel so my partner travel by him self and he wasn't impressed due to 2beds were put together to make double bed which is not ideal for couple.
It's seems things are hit and miss.
We have one more bookings and after that will decide if we will be booking with them for future
- Martin (3/5): Disappointing for a Best Western: basic hotel with no restaurant - Poor nights sleep due to lumpy old mattress and noise from other rooms till 05:30 (thin walls). Tea making facilities and toilet rolls not restocked for second night leaving insufficient. Poor signage in shared carpark showing where to park.
- Judith (4/5): Wouldn’t stay again. - Tired interior, cold shower, diluting juice for breakfast and ran out of butter at the breakfast buffet. Also nearly charged us £20 for checking in 1 hr early.
Rozsdás részletek a fürdőszobában.

- Jamie (10/5): Beautiful property, in a great location, with superb staff. - Excellent receptionist who guided me to free hotel parking and gave me an easy and pleasant check in. Breakfast was lovely. The host, who is living on the property, showed me the stunning ballroom and told me a little history of the building, which was really interesting. N/A
- Pauline (8/5): - Staff were excellent, I left my apple watch at the hotel, they stored it safely, labelled it all up for me ready for DHL collection. Comfortable, convenient and very helpful staff A colleague was meeting me for breakfast and unfortunately we couldn't pay for a guest to join me for breakfast or coffee! The breakfast room was empty so this was a missed opportunity for the hotel.
- David (5/5): Ok - Breakfast was cold, could do with a microwave to heat the cooked food up, also no hot water unless you ran the hot tap for 10/15 minutes until you finally got hot water.
- garethwjones (2/5): This Hotel Has Deteriorated - We recently stayed for 2 nights.
We booked a double superior suite and none were available on our arrival. We asked for disabled accessibility due to disabilities and a recent knee operation.
The hotel tried to put us in an inferior twin room, we declined. They offered a room that had matresses turned upside down due to urine staining - we declined.
We had to accept a smaller twin room for the 1st night as nothing else was available.
Both I and my partner are disabled and needed an accessible room, which we were moved to for the 2nd night stay.
The customer service was mostly appalling with only 1 member of staff actively trying to resolve our room issue.
The rooms generally need maintenance, with poor plumbing, loose bathroom tiles, mould on bathroom sealant and dated and worn mattresses.
We have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years and can clearly see the deteriaration of the hotel and quality of service, resulting in us never going to use this hotel again.
Other guests during our stay had the same issues as we did, so their failings seem now a common issue.
We would not recommend this hotel.

- Sarah (4/5): Not very grand at all! - Central location for town centre Strong smell of cigarette smoke coming from below into the bathroom via a hole in the floor. The smell lingered in the bedroom as well, which affected my breathing as I have asthma, so very little sleep was had.
Security lock on the door was broken so I could not deadlock the door overnight. This was very unnerving as a single female guest in a room at the end of a long corridor.
Bedding smelt stale and had multiple hairs on the pillows. The pillow protectors were very stained.
Lots of dust on the headboard and side tables and cobwebs on the walls. Big damp patch on one wall from where water had leaked from outside.
Toilet roll wasn't replaced before my check-in, so I had to call Reception at midnight to ask for some. Had to wait over 30 minutes for someone to arrive and I was very tired and waiting to go to sleep.
Breakfast was very disappointing. The food was left under hot lights so everything was dried up. I was offered fresh eggs, but when I asked for scrambled it took over 20 minutes to arrive, so I had already eaten the rest of the breakfast. Eggs weren't even edible, very watery!
Upon leaving the hotel, I discovered that the adjacent car park does not belong to the hotel, even though it was signposted as The Best Western Grand Hotel car park - very misleading! I had to contact Hartlepool Council to ask to be let out, because the car park was locked with a barrier. This further delayed my departure.
- Earl (9/5): - near train station
- Liam (4/5): -
- Dipti (8/5): - It was closer to our meeting which we had and we didn't have to drive Location
- Kerry (7/5): - Great friendly staff and the breakfast is good The coffee with the breakfast was disgusting sorry to say would be perfect if u had better coffee just tasted like hot water
- johnlX4575KF (2/5): Frightening unsafe man in our bedroom!! - Extremely concerning stay, we have stayed in many hotels and on staying here I initially didn't leave a review however 1 year on seeing things have not improved I am compelled to do so the issue is room security doors in adequately locking and a staff member prowling round our bedroom at 3 am in the morning when my wife screamed at him to get out he still hung around in the bedroom before getting out the guy was so I was told the night porter this type of incident has happened before to which I demanded an explanation the explanation given as far as we. Were concerned was inadequate nobody nobody should be hanging around in the darkness of a guests bedroom in the early hours of the morning beware I believe it happens a lot

- Traveler50047142173 (2/5): Horrific, unsafe and threadbare. - Horrific incident in at 3am when people (a "courting couple" as we were told) who had not previously booked were given a room (ours) in the middle of the night. They tried to get into our room when they had been given a key by a member of staff. Staff are pleasant but very overworked but this is not safe or acceptable. The member of staff we spoke to said "you're lucky it could have been much worse if they had been an angry drunk", well thanks for that!
Was promised a deputy manager would ring us to apologise...of course they did not. Room is clean but threadbare with carpets bald in places and bathroom door so thin it wobbles when you try to open it (after it jams if you lock it). They advertise the football on TNT but the hotel does not actually have TNT anymore and half of the beer pumps are for show only as they no longer sell the full range. I could go on but you get the drift. Simply I would not ever go again for fear for my safety.
- Colin (8/5): -
- jon (5/5): great location - close to y work the next day the decor has been attempted to be redecorated,. felt old and tried.
- Sean (2/5): - Best bit was free parking and it being close to where we needed to go. Beds was that uncomfortable didn't get good sleep and woke up aching in places you shouldn't.
Was water stains all over the ceiling and wallpaper peeling in places in main room.
Bathroom was not clean and very scruffy with marks on towels etc
Breakfast was a joke.
White stuff floating in the orange and apple juice. Food was either cremated or floating in grease.
- Marcus H. Langston (8/5): Historic old dame of a hotel that is a pleasure to stay at. Excellent service and great value. - The Grand Hotel is beautifully preserved and many features clearly date back from 1899. We were there for the Hartlepool match and the hotel was within walking distance of the stadium. Sandra at reception was the perfect host and our room was super comfy and warm. The bath was amazing with piping hot water into a deep tub. The breakfast was delicious with a full English including black pudding! The 1899 bar TV and the room TV didn't show the live football matches and we couldn't find BBC, ITV, C4 channels etc.
- Carrie & Elliot (8/5): No frills but clean, secure and ok for an overnight stay - Clean, reception staff lovely, perfect location for what we needed (my son had a sports event close by) Its no frills but clean , safe and has all you need for a short stay. The ONLY thing that let it down was the breakfast. The pastries were cremated, the Apple and Orange juice had bits floating in it , and it wasnt fruit!!! The coffee was awful. No butter anywhere for toast. What a shame
- Angela (7/5): -
- Rachel (7/5): Lovely spacious bedroom and cozy, although paper thin walls and old windows, could hear drunks all night, when they slam - Lovely bedroom, cozy and spacious. Elevator in hotel as well and free wi-fi. Very noisy, you could hear the drunks outside, sometimes slamming into doors making your windows shake, and you can hear people talking through rooms. Hot water for the bath does not get hot, lukewarm at best. Shower was hot though.
- Emmanuelle (8/5): Clean, quiet and central - Clean, quiet, central, very attentive manager who clearly tries very hard to make the hotel as good as it can be. The hotel is a bit dated but pleasant.
- marie (10/5): -
- Hugh Jarsoll (1/5): Cold and Spartan - Restaurant in the basement was good quality. The room was unheated and the radiators didn't work for the duration of the stay.
- Justin (10/5): -
- Darren (6/5): Nor - Location and quiet relaxing atmophere, nice bar and good indian restaurant. Rooms could be modernised a bit and the could be warmer. No shower is a big disapointment, had to use taps and no shower curtain meaning water everywhere. Pretty ridiculous in the day and age.
- Karl (2/5): Appalling - I only had toast as the cooked breakfast did not look fresh as it was under a counter heater and I had no idea for how long. Everything. The website pictures look a whole lot better than real life. Room smelt of smoke, burn marks in the carpet and no toilet roll in the room. I rang to check my reservation whilst travelling up to be told my stay was cancelled as there had been a glitch in the booking system and I had to pay more if I wanted to stay. I had not been contacted or informed! Pretty poor to say the least.
- Andrew (1/5): -
- Luke (8/5): -
- susandX9178HB (2/5): Nightmare - Hotel locked when we arrived, cleaner let us in. Couldn't check in until 4pm,only person available was a caretaker, no receptionist, room was cold, with 3 quarter bed not double, paid for bed and breakfast but told we had to pay £10 each for breakfast on top, no private parking as stated, felt uncomfortable and unsafe, so left soon after, went to reception but nobody there, left key card and left. Later in day was charged £43 , disgraceful!!!
- Desmond (8/5): -
- john (8/5): very good quiet and comfortable - good parking and dog friendly window blinds broken

- Rene (1/5): -
- joanne (1/5): Dirty and needs a lot of work - Location The rooms were dirty, carpet badly stained, bed spread filthy. Smelt of cigarettes. Had to move rooms twice but still not great. Won’t be staying again
- JONATHAN (10/5): -
- Dion (7/5): - Good bar to relax in and a great breakfast in the morning No heating in the room.
Hot water was adequately warm.
- Ivan (9/5): -
- Jacqueline (8/5): 1 night stay - Accessible to town centre Car parking situation caused confusion
- C1893UDdanw (10/5): Clean, comfortable and fairly priced. - Stayed for one night recently. A perfectly adequate, clean and quiet room for a very fair price. Sandra and Richard were very welcoming and engaging, and even took the time to show me the ballroom when I expressed an interest in the beautiful old building. I’m assured that the Indian restaurant in the basement of the building is top drawer too.
- Tanya (10/5): -
- Kia (10/5): - The staff where amazing it’s a lovely place I would go again
- James (9/5): Brilliant breakfast and Indian restaurant below the hotel - The breakfast was superb The WIFI wasn't great

- Simon (7/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): Good stay , would visit again . - The staff were lovely and helpful . Nice big room . Expensive and breakfast was not included .
- Jordan (7/5): Good comfy bed and bath small room - There was no dinner facilities and no breakfast included Breakfast offered
- Simon (8/5): Very good value, central location, all good to very good. - Breakfast and location both good. Bathroom door didn't lock, lock broken (in room so not a problem).
- Amie (10/5): -
- Linda (8/5): This hotel is not the “ritz” but would definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends. - Location excellent, the room was large comfortable and clean. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the staff were friendly and very helpful on every aspect of our stay. Value for money was exceptional. The restaurant food was absolutely delicious, the place was spotless and the staff were smart and very helpful, but as this was an Indian restaurant and the English dishes were few, if staying at the hotel for any length of time would definitely need a change.
