Guest Reviews
- Kate (10/5): Clean, comfortable, friendly and great location close to town centre - Lovely hosts made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay, they couldn’t have been more helpful or hospitable. The venue feels like a home from home. I’d highly recommend it
- Evelien (10/5): Pefect stay with my colleagues for 1 night traveling south by car - The hosts John and Pablo are very friendly and we felt most welcome
The bed was extremely good, breakfast spotless and overall just a personal contact with the host.
- Sheila (10/5): - Stunning house with a beautiful garden. We stayed in the twin room which was comfortable and clean. Huge shower in the ensuite was a bonus. Loved how thoughtful the hosts were, even putting a heater in our room as we were at a wedding until late and the heating was off so they thought we might be cold.
There is a sitting room where guests are welcome to relax in too.
The breakfast was exceptional, fresh fruit and yoghurt, choice of cereal and then full English, eggs and smoked salmon or mackerel and poached eggs, eaten in a lovely room looking through patio doors out to the garden.
Would definitely recommend this b and b. Nothing not to like.
- David (8/5): - Great hosts and good breakfast.
- ELIZABETH (10/5): Comfortable and relaxed, would highly recommend The Lions to anyone looking for accommodation in Newark - The property is beautiful, the rooms are large and our bathroom was stunning with a large stained glass window which caught the sunlight. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast first class. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, we had a lovely stay. Nothing.
- Philip (10/5): Excellent hosts. Great breakfast. - Breakfast was excellent. Pablo and John were excellent hosts. Would definately book The Lions again.
- Eva (8/5): - Interesting and quirky house. Bath wasn't working but there was a working shower. Comfortable but no luxuries. Breakfast was good. I wasn't notified until I arrived that the bath wasn't working. The decor was unusual but a little sparse.
- Satpal (10/5): A wonderful, relaxing stay with fantastic hospitality we will definitely return!” - The property was exceptionally clean, spacious, and beautifully presented. The beds were very comfortable, and sitting in the lovely back garden. The owners were so friendly, welcoming, and always available if we needed anything. Breakfast was amazing freshly made and delicious, especially the homemade jam and croissants. We also enjoyed dining in the elegant dining room.” Nothing at all our stay was perfect.”
- Kathleen (10/5): Quality accommodation with excellent hosts. - Perfect hosts who immediately made us feel at home. Comfortable room. Guest lounge available as well as access to a beautiful garden. Quality breakfast to set us up for the day. Couldn't have picked a better place to stay and will definitely return. Nothing!
- Vickie_Knight (10/5): - Warm welcome during a later than planned arrival from the host. Camomile tea- thr full box,.not just 2 bags 😁
Beautiful room, stunning bathroom. Original Victorian features throughout. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful Nothing- all good.

- Kerry (10/5): Fantastic B&B on the outskirts of Newark. - Fantastic find on the outskirts of Newark. Run by a lovely couple Pablo & John who made you feel very welcome & part of the family.
Beautiful decor in a historic house.
Lovely location & fabulous breakfast overlooking a gorgeous garden.
Also given complimentary drinks on our return from a meal out with family members, which was a nice touch.
It was great to meet the extended family too, Cameron, Jack & little Theodore.
Highly recommend this B&B. Nothing. All great.
- simon (10/5): Elegant and comfortable - Everything Nothing…all good
- Paul (7/5): A lovely Spring stay at The Lions - Pablo and John are great hosts. The rooms are well furnished. Breakfast is excellent - whatever you wish for can appear as if by magic, all presented on the the most beautiful tableware. The porcelain sink in the bathroom in room 1 needs repairing. This was acknowledged by John and Pablo, after I went down with a cut finger, though to be totally honest, there was no warning about it either - so it is worth pointing out, as there is a dink at the bottom you can catch your finger on. I'm sure they'll have it sorted soon though.
- d14c63dab57d72a11ebe92557e94a7c5 (10/5): - Amazing hosts, comfortable room, great bed. Lovely breakfast Nothing
- f5893a81e24e7326d69797cc9742d2c5 (8/5): Beautiful house with perfect hosts - The location was great for what we needed it for . - 6c8c46c332607080919554a3e64983e8 (9/5): If staying in Newark The Lions is the place to book ! - Everything was perfect re the Lion B and B a real gem in walking distance of Newark town centre. Our twin room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and served from 7-30 to 9-30 but I would expect the owners to be flexible on the times. Plenty of parking on site, but we parked on the road immediately outside - no restrictions.
Both Pablo and John are the perfect hosts. All good.
- 2ebf9a6cc86772227fc674d2a6a8f0bc (10/5): Lovely B&B experience, very comfy, friendly hosts and great breakfast. - Breakfast was excellent. John and Pablo couldn't have done more. Lovely fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Beautiful bath in the room, very comfy bed. Easy walk to the station.

- Amie (8/5): Outstanding - We had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Lions B&B and honestly couldn’t have asked for more. The property itself is stunning—beautifully maintained, full of charm, and set in the perfect location. It’s just far enough out of town to feel peaceful and relaxing, yet close enough for a lovely walk in for an evening meal, which we really enjoyed.
The hosts, Pablo and John, truly made the experience exceptional. From the moment we arrived, they were so warm, friendly, and welcoming—it felt like nothing was too much trouble. They were always happy to share great recommendations for places to eat and things to do, which really added a personal touch to our stay. Their attention to detail and genuine care for their guests really stands out.
The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into making guests feel at home.
Breakfast was absolutely brilliant—easily a 10/10! Delicious, freshly prepared, and the perfect way to start the day.
We’re so pleased we chose to stay for 2 nights as it gave us time to properly unwind and enjoy everything. It’s one of those places you don’t want to leave, and we’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay!
- Michael (8/5): Very enjoyable - Very well cooked English breakfast
- Michael (10/5): Lion Kings. - Fabulous Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
I don't usually write reviews but I've made an exception for the Lions.
The two hosts were superb and couldn't do enough for us.
The bedroom room was spotless and we had a lovely huge bathroom with a roll top bath and walk-in shower..
A smashing full English breakfast with fresh fruit as a starter and home made jam for the toast. Linel surviettes!
Well worth a diversion off the A1. Nothing.
- MICHAEL (10/5): Very comfortable, lovely interesting old house full of character interest, quality & hospitality. - There was a choice of traditional cooked breakfast which is my preference. Breakfast was prompt, cooked to perfection in a period English dinning room. Excellent to consume ones breakfast in a beautiful room filled with quality furniture & art. There was nothing not to like. I search out smaller privately owned hotels on my many travels across the country. "The Lions" is a fine example of a hotel established in an attractive lovingly restored period property & reflects the owners passion, enthusiasm & hospitality. Socially & aesthetically superior to any of the ghastly large chain organisations on offer.

- Keith (10/5): - Very friendly and personable owners. Characterful and comfortable rooms. Good breakfast
- Jacki (10/5): Lovely B&B, would stay again! - The hotel was lovely and homely. Just what we needed. It was a great B&B. Nothing.

- Tassadit (10/5): We just felt at home and we lived it! - Our host Pedro was simply the best! He gave us a warm welcome on a grey rainy day and even offered us a welcome drink! We stayed in a beautifully decorated period property. Our grand bedroom was bursting with rich tones from the original wooden furniture and rugs. The place was spotless and most importantly nice and warm.
Breakfast, which was cooked by Pedro was faultless and delicious. I just love the attention to detail and the variety of choices.
We had a fresh fruit salad and some kippers with poached eggs which was just perfect.
The location and ease of parking was great.
We absolutely loved our stay at The Lions and it is clear to see how much the owners take pride in their property and care about their guests. Loved it ❤️ Absolutely nada!

- Steven (9/5): - Lovely property and hosts very welcoming Nothing to dislike
- lee (10/5): -
- Alistair (10/5): - Everything possible and lovely hosts, wish every place was like this. Couldn't ask for more.
- Trevor (7/5): Apart from room layout stay was fine though road noise may be an issue for some - Breakfast v.good & freshly cooked. Location was good for walking into town. Reasonable amount of road noise could be heard. Room a little bit basic but clean and tidy. Lightning in room with light and 2 bedside lamps was very dim. - not adequate to read at any time of day. Layout of room is problematic as small tv on wall opposite bed - too small and can only be viewed by sitting on end of bed. Sofa placed against wall that tv is mounted on so not useable unless you move the sofa to the end of the bed - not what you plan to do.
- Brendan (10/5): -
- karen (10/5): Wonderful owners, delicious breakfast in a beautiful period property. - Everything, rooms were spacious and comfortable, amazing breakfast, comfy bed Nothing

- Lisa (10/5): - We received an extremely warm welcome from the hosts, who were even kind enough to call on the day to offer an early check in as they knew we were at a wedding. The room was spacious, beautifully furnished, with comfortable bed and lots of storage. The view from the breakfast room was gorgeous, overlooking the garden. Particularly liked the linen napkins and quality tableware which added to the experience. Breakfast was good quality food, cooked freshly to order and the homemade jam was delicious.

- Hopknight (10/5): Great hosts and breakfast - Pablo and John are friendly and welcoming hosts. The property is historic and beautifully furnished with a lovely garden. The hosts were kind enough to offer me a welcome drink and advise a nice Vietnamese place for dinner. No road noise at the back of the house. Free parking in front driveway (tight). Great breakfast! The Wi-Fi didn’t seem to work in my room. Noise was audible from guests in the garden and rest of house in the evening but being an old house this is understandable.
- Tim (10/5): Outstanding B&B in heart of Newark - This beautiful B&B was simply divine .
We were lucky to stay on a super warm day so enjoyed the wonderful terrace and garden to the rear. The planting, seating and general atmosphere made us feel we were on an Italian mini break!!
We had G&Ts in the garden before heading into town for supper.
Breakfast was beyond amazing and served by the two wonderful owners. Nothing was too much trouble. We spend a lazy hour just savouring this moment .
The house is Georgian I believe and was full of original features. Our room was huge and beautifully decorated with wonderful artwork collected over the years .
If you ever come to Newark you simply must stay here. Forget hotels, forget staying by the river. This is gem of a place .
Many thanks for sharing your home with us . Nothing, it’s a slice of heaven

The furnishings are period and classy and the twin room was very spacious.

Newark ist ein echtes Juwel , das man unbedingt anschauen sollte. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder! --

- Anita (10/5): Stunning and homely stay with fabulous hosts. - Third trip to the Lions! It is a beautiful place to stay and is immaculate. Pablo & John are fabulous hosts, they really make everyone feel welcome. The bedrooms are comfortable and exceptionally clean with beautiful views of the garden. Breakfast offers so much choice, today I had fruit salad and avocado on toast which was delicious but there is full English, vegetarian and plenty of other options.
