- Sayard (2/5): - Difference between rustic and rundown. This place is very run down. And dirty! Dirty pillows and comforter. The tv was broken, sliding glass door didn’t close completely and the air conditioner was duck taped to the window and hose fell out at one point. Was upgraded second night because of how gross the room was. Was a private cottage and things worked and it was cleaner. But still in disrepair. Also they forgot the continental breakfast. Don’t stay here.
- Liliana (4/5): - This property is not well kept. They have a spider and mice problem. It is extremely close to the main road so it is extremely noisy all night long. Would most likely not stay here again and I will not recommend it to anyone.
- Jane (8/5): - Parking was right in front of our cabin. Very convenient. The staff were all very helpfull and attentive! We will go thete again in the future.
- Dan (6/5): - This is a constructive critique, not a destructive one. My rental was cute, but small. My criticisms are about small things that are easy to remedy, but detract from the overall experience. Two light bulbs in the dimly lit room were burned out, and there was no hand or body soap. The staff responded immediately. Good. There were no paper towels or napkins in the kitchenette. The chairs out on the rear deck were very uncomfortable to sit in. The coffee provided was the worst tasting I've ever had. Undrinkable. If management will address these small things, it will be a completely enjoyable place to stay.

- Amber (2/5): - This letter is in reference to our stay at the Idyllwild Bunkhouse in the Woodland Vista cabin on May 21st-23rd 2025. We booked this cabin on Expedia after reading tons of reviews, watching videos and reviewing all online outlets for the property. From the pictures that were presented, we were excited to enjoy our 15th Wedding Anniversary away in Idyllwild. We were greeted by Deb who was super friendly and welcoming. She checked us in and gave us our key. Looking from the outside, everything looked great. We enjoyed spending time on the private deck and enjoying nature. As time went on, we began to notice and document: -The first night, we didn’t know about the heat and froze to death. The next day we asked Deb and she told us how to turn it on in the bathroom. Once we did, the unit was extremely loud and the tops and inside were very dirty. -Towel hook in bathroom fell down when a towel was placed on it. -Unable to sit on couch as it had stains, was dirty and not being comfortable and being very loud. We had to sit at the dining table the entire stay which was very uncomfortable and not relaxing at all. -Bed was extremely uncomfortable and may possibly be broken on half the bed. -Tons of cobwebs everywhere and extremely dusty -Big black heater in main room doesn’t work and it completely full of dust -Kitchen had oil stains running down the wall -Duvet cover, sheets, chair in bedroom all had white stains

- Verified traveler (6/5): Cute but has Musty smell and small. - The bed had 2 strands of hair under the pillow also had some tiny black ‘crumbs’ or crusty scabs on the bed when we arrived. We arrived late and no one was in the office. No room service, no phones in the room. The carpet was dirty and the room smelled musty. It had a portable AC in the room. Very small room and super tiny bathroom and shower. Breakfast comes in a cute basket every morning but only has an apple, one baked good, a pkg of instant oatmeal and 1 juice box. Not enough for my husband and I. I like the balcony, the view from the balcony, the rustic look of the room. Has a cabin look. Close to the village. Parking is super convenient. I just wish it was cleaner and fresher feeling inside.
- rodolfo (10/5): - Small, quaint, cottage-cabin like motel, with a loft accessed by ladder. The restroom and shower were small in size. All rooms have portable air conditioning, as window units do not function. The loft has a big box fan. And there is a table fan as well. Ceiling fan also was not working. All in all it was a great stay. Will do again. Breakfast is brought to you in baskets, hanging outside the door. It was a neat experience.
- Allison (10/5): - The cabin was very nice. My room had 2 beds as well as dishes, a mini refrigerator and microwave. The lighting was a little on the dim side, but not a huge issue at all. The outside with the plants and seating was very nice! They had lights around the plants that reminded me of a fairy tale world. I loved this place and will definitely stay again.

- David (8/5): - The Bunkhouse is a rustic motel that looks like an old motor lodge from the 50's. It is very quaint in appearance, although the rooms are on the small size. This place would be a true gem if it were properly maintained. Cobwebs are in abundance, hanging vines and broken asphalt hinder passage from parking to unit. There are freestanding air conditioners that vent the hot compressor air through an open window, sort of. The owner/management does not appear to love this cozy motel. The appearance and upkeep is evidence of this. The office closes at 6:00 PM with no staff on the grounds. On the day of my arrival, I received a call from the Bunkhouse letting me know the office was closing at 1:30 PM and my key would be in the mailbox. This was an experience we won't soon forget. Did I mention we had a power outage that started at dusk and lasted for over 2 hours. It was a wide spread outage so not the fault of ownership. I would habe appreciated it if ownership had call me to let me know wh!t was happening. Owner did arrive about a hour and a half into the outage and gave me a couple of candles. Would we go back... yes and look forward to our next stay.

- Mariana (10/5): - We brought our dog to escape fourth of July fireworks in the neighborhood and had a great stay. Very cozy, friendly, place. Staff is incredibly welcoming and easy going. Room was clean and peaceful. The small personal deck outside had a beautiful view of the forest and was perfect for relaxing and reading a book. The hotel was close to the town's center, which was just a walk away.
- Brian (10/5): - We love staying here. This is our spot every time we visit. Staff/owner is very friendly and they leave cute little baskets with homemade pastries and juice boxes on your door for breakfast. It’s rustic, in the best way.
- Erick (8/5): - For a solo traveler this is a great option, as its centrally located and easy to get to anywhere in town and the many nature hikes in the area. Loved the back porch with a view directly into the woods. As noted by other guests, only possible downside are the thin walls.
- Justin (4/5): - The Bunkhouse could be good, but there is lots of room for improvement. Pros: The view from the porch is nice. The staff is friendly. There is outside seating in the front. Seperate kitchen area from bedroom Bedroom can be blacked out during the day. Close to hiking trails, nature center, and the town. Cons. The walls in the rooms are parper thin. The people in the room next to us had the tv loud and were yelling through the night. We could hear the news channel they were watching and their conversation crystal clear. Don't expect to sleep if you have inconsiderate neighbors. My first morning the neighbors cell phone alarm woke me up at 6AM and they immediately turned on the TV and were having a conversation at a volume above the TV. All of which could be heard through the wall. The hotel provides earplugs for noise, but only 2 and they were the weakest earplugs I've ever used. Didn't drown out anything. We booked a 4 day stay and room service never came. The shower curtain is placed in a way that all the water drips off the curtain outside the shower and onto the floor. The breakfast is a joke. Everything in the room seems jerry rigged. The lights are all connected to an extension cord. Even the ceiling fan. The wall outlets are missing covers. Major fire hazards. Overall this place has potential, but needs improvements.
- Charlotte (8/5): - Beautiful workmanship with all Knotty Pine Interior. Very creative use of natural sources for the decor. A simple Cabin-Like atmosphere, well kept over many years. Felt like a Hide-away, without Luxurious foolishness. Very reasonable rates, way below the other Hotels/Motels. We loved it, and our doggy, too! Simple kitchen, with apt size fridge/Micro. Rugged deck over looking fabulous Forrest vista.

- Morgan (10/5): - I was pleasantly surprised with the Bunkhouse. I was up for the Celtic Faire and it was a great place to rest my head after the long days. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and it was great having a kitchenette. The only downsides were the bathroom was on a very noticeable slope so tricky to get used to in the middle of the night. shower was very small, with very little water pressure and the breakfast while nice was very lack luster from the photos online. Still would highly recommended and will definitely be back.
- Sarah (8/5): Cozy and convenient - We really enjoyed our stay! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Loved that there was a mini kitchenette area so we could make breakfast/lunch there. Some of the plates were dirty and there was a lot of dust on the lamps and a few other areas of the room. Everything else seemed quite tidy and clean. The back deck was a nice touch and we felt very cozy there between hikes. The flowers out front were beautiful! Would definitely come back 😊

- Tanu (6/5): Disappointing Experience – Misleading Listing - The place did not have everything shown in the pictures. Our room did not have the electric stove that was advertised, and despite selecting the "breakfast included" option while booking, we were not provided any breakfast in our room. There was no one at the office—we had to call a number, and the person we spoke to said breakfast is only offered on weekends. However, this was not mentioned in the room's welcome book. He offered oatmeal, but only at 9 AM, which defeats the purpose of booking a bed and breakfast—we specifically chose this place to save time and leave early in the morning. I feel misled. If weekday breakfast isn’t available, the listing should not have offered it as an option during the booking process. Had I known this, I would have booked another property with better amenities for a similar or even lower price. Additionally, the bathroom flush was not working properly, and there were ants in the bed—my child had one crawling on his leg, which caused him to panic. Overall, it was a disappointing and uncomfortable experience.

The rest was pretty bad I spent almost 3 hrs cleaning the place, even found a woman's purse, socks, and lighter in the sofa/chairs which tells me they don't bother to clean those areas, took before and after pictures even contacted the owner Rajiv offering my cleaning services didn't even ask for a refund or anything which I hear I wouldn't have gotten anyway. The guy just doesn't care about his properties and it's a shame because they have real potential. Would not recommend

- Erika (10/5): Amazing Hospitality and Location - The stay was great, even before we arrived. On our way to the Bunkhouse, we received a voicemail with the instructions on how to obtain our key, along with well wishes on our travel. Upon arrival, we obtained the key and once the door opened, my boys were in extreme excitement once they saw our room with a loft. I wanted us to rent a cabin, but with prices so high I went with this location, and it definately did not dissappoint. It gave an amazing cabin feel. Of course like any mom, you think of things you may need for breakfast and other essentials that most locations dont have. And bitterly sweeet, I OVER PACKED! The room had all the amentities needed for us. Bowls, plates, cutting boards, fridage and microwave. HEaters and extra blankets. In the morning during our official check in, the present host was super sweet. She assured my 5 year old that the hog on her wall was nothing to be afraid of. She even explained the Furbys' busy night and why they were still sleeping. As you can imagine, my 5 year old had a million questions and she was so kind and patient to answer each and every one. Then even took the time to later invite my oldest son to see her office and the hog and Furby friends. The breakfast basket each morning was a very sweet touch. They were our hiking and fishing snacks for the day. My boys and I will definitely be returning. I have even mentioned it to my family so hopefully they may join us next time. Thank you for a great stay!

- Grahame (10/5): Traditional - The Bunkhouse is a traditional old motel. Its cosy has a comfy bed and real cups, cutlery and a sink go along with a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. There's a small balcony off the back overlooking the forest. I was there on a weekend so breakfast is delivered to your door.

- Corina (8/5): - Friendly staff. Room was quiet cold. Patio door did not close properluy, left a decent crack. View was lovely, not heated a couple of space heaters were provided. Coffee pot was dirty upon arrival. Room itself was charming for view purpose.
- Miin-jen (10/5): Nice wooden buckhouse - Overall the stay was pleasant. The hosts are friendly and approachable. Our room had a loft, going up stairs to the loft was quite scary as there were no poles on top to hold on to. A lot of creaking noises on the walls, loft if someone sleeps there. Its true you can hear cars zooming by constantly but they did provide ear plugs which helps a lot. We had a good time with our family.

- Beth (10/5): Mountain Retreat - A wonderful mountain retreat! My stay was comfortable and the hospitality great. The balcony was a particular highlight, the stars were bright at night and the forest alive in the morning. I would stay here again.

- Amy (8/5): - Cute and family friendly accommodations - nice to have a kitchenette and outside patio and our kids enjoyed the space. Location is close to town and the Idyllwild Nature Center. Street outside was a little noisy when out front, but it was not heard once inside. Overall, compared to other places we have stayed around town, we felt it was a really good deal for the price and a nice option for our family. Thank you!

- Grisell (6/5): - The hotel was not far from the town. The room was okay for my son and I for the weekend. I like the look of the hotel however some areas could use a paint and the common areas a clean. My pillow smelled and I regretted not bringing an extra extra blanket to throw over the bed. I ended up putting my coat over the pillows. As we were leaving, our neighbor thought it was cool to let his dog poop next to my car and not pick it up!

Pet friendly, friendly service w complimentary breakfast treats. Beds not great, walls very thin, and too expensive for what it is but probably the market price for the area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): 1 star - When we walked in, my first impression was "wow, looks like a murder lodge". Do not expect any comforts here. The "beds" are really cots (and not just the bunk beds). The heat was broken and the rooms are drafty and cold. The bathroom was the size of an airplane bathroom (and so cold given the lack of heat). The walls are thin enough that you can chat with your neighbors. We were mislead by positive reviews. Our family agreed that we would rather camp than stay here again. For a few dollars more, you can stay at the other cute inns in town. Couldn't recommend less.
- Jonathan (10/5): Cozy Cabin Vibes - We stayed two nights, the room was very cozy. The staff was very polite and knowledgeable about the area's activities. The weather was amazing on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The rooms are small but make the most of the limited space, if I was going to stay longer than the two nights, I would have opted for their cabins or bigger room. I definitely will be staying here again next time I visit. It's a short walk from the nature center, which is a perk especially if you're planning to be out most of the day and save on gas. I don't have any complaints, we had to buy our hand soap for the bathroom, I don't recommend walking to the town center from here, the road isn't pedestrian-safe and it is a small trek, but that's about it. It was nice to wake up to a basket of food hanging on the door each morning. Overall, if you're looking for a place to stay with a rustic cabin vibe, I hope this review helps you make that decision.

The 2 ladies in the office were very nice and personable. Will stay again just need some TLC.

They are friendly and gracious hosts who went above and beyond to make it a nice stay. It is so sweet to get a little breakfast basket on my door each morning and the view from my room was lovely! Great value for a great stay!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute an quirky motel - I really enjoyed my stay! The Idyllwild was so cute with all the cedar walls and the little kitchen and balcony! I loved sitting on the balcony at night looking at the stars!. The hosts were awesome and I made two new friends. Also the home made scones in the cute breakfast basket were a great touch. There could be more attention to cleaning as I saw old grains of rice in the bed. I would stay there again!
- April (6/5): - I've been staying here for almost a decade, but prior to this trip it had been about 4 years since my last visit and it seems that the property has noticably fallen into disrepair. I will no longer be recommending this place to anyone or staying there myself.
- Phoenix (8/5): Convenient location - The receptionist on site charged me for my service dog which is illegal. I called U.S. Service Animal agency the next day to report it. The manager soon came to my door and said she would reverse the charge, but I’ve yet to see it on my bank account. As for the room, the TV didn’t work. It took forever for the hot water to heat up in the shower. The lodge is next to the highway with nowhere but the side of the road next to traffic to walk a dog. The bed was comfortable. The lodge is only 3 minutes from town so the location is convenient. I’d probably stay there again, but I did have to drive my dog to a nearby field for her to go potty. Also, a picnic style breakfast is brought to your door in a basket in the morning. It had an apple, fruit juice, instant oatmeal, and a chocolate filled croissant in it. Nice touch. The whole place needs a better paint job. It wasn’t expensive, either.

- Jamie (10/5): A hidden gem - This was a wonderful stay. I rarely take the time to write a review but I felt it was necessary for this stay. The hotel is actually very cute. The appearance outside is of an adorable cottage like hotel in the pines. The insides are perfect little cabins. My three kids slept upstairs in the loft and they really liked it. The room has every comfort you could need whether it’s summer or winter. The back patio had gorgeous views of the forest you’re in. It was quiet and we enjoyed seeing the beautiful birds and the fluffy squirrels running around. Breakfast was also super cute. They leave a basket with different options at your door in the morning. My kids loved it. The only down side is we stayed one night. I would have liked to stay longer. -also, the owner was extremely nice and I would recommend this place to friends and family

- Linda (10/5): Wonder filled cabin in the woods - We always have a wonderful time staying at the bunkhouse. The little naughty pine cabin with kitchen is very convenient. We love this stay in The pines of Idlewild. We have been there in the fall and now in the spring we will be ready visiting again in the fall before the snowflakes fall. wonderful place and of course Raj the owner is Super nice. If you like a funky fun weekend stay this is it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Woodland Vista cabin - Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, even giving us a ride to the local laundromat. The cabin was cute and had a wood stove, kitchenette, balcony and hide a bed sofa. However, things seemed unfinished: sloppy painting behind the toilet, doors had fairly wide gaps that let cold air in, and the heat was either full on or full off. Also, there was a mouse running around. There was one of those sticky mouse catchers under the fridge, which I really don't like. Use a snap trap and kill the mouse instantly; don't catch it alive in stickiness and let it starve to death.
