Guest Reviews
- Christopher (4/5): - I was not put in the right cabin, I was placed in a room in the hostel across the road. So nothing was as on the web site, or as paid for.
- Ross (8/5): Stay near Loch Ness - Easy parking, clean and tidy room only let down was squeaky bed when someone moved, toilet and shower block clean and plenty of hot water, shared kitchen clean with plates cups etc. for a inexpensive place to stay was very impressed. If travelling in area again would definitely use, many thanks.
- Mrs gabi (8/5): - The cleaner was very pleasant and helpfull
- Sylvain (2/5): - Not possible to check in after 7 pm. So we couldn’t check in, try to contact them no answer.
- Lori (6/5): - Overall - served the purpose. They seriously need to post quiet hours like 10pm-6am 11-7 if you want a decent and needed sleep after long driving or hiking. It’s a small area and cabins close together - Drunk loud guys came in at 6:40pm and were outside until after midnight . we were all up until they decided they were done and started again at 6am. Great spot by the river but you can’t hear or enjoy the river or nature if there is no respect for a shared outside space. Posting signs on the cabin doors for quiet night hiurs - even 6 hours to sleep a bit would go a long way. It’s a crap shoot otherwise if you get to rest before your next day.
- Joseph (8/5): - For price good all round
- Dennis (6/5): Suggestion to check bins more regularly! - Ideal short stop. On contacting owners direct, received rude reply. The kitchen and toilet bins were not emptied for 3 days. Owners reply was that she couldn’t check every time someone put rubbish in them. Well, if you are busy that is when bins fill up the most! Very slippery entering shower block and suggested non-slip mat. I had to go to hospital because of a nasty fall due to slippery conditions. Just be warned!
- candace (2/5): - We arrived to the place that Google Maps lead us to. The sign on the door
- SHARON (2/5): - Unable to stay at this property - very dirty - had to sleep in my car - unavailable after 8pm
- Sammy (2/5): - DISGUSTING! You are better sleeping in your car like Myself and brother did. This place is a scam! The pictures shown do not look anything like it in real like. Spider, fly, mushroom, mould infestation everywhere. Unliveable! I am sure you would get a respiratory problem with the amount of uncleanliness and mould. It is hell and should be put down! I truly feel robbed and want my money back! A simple cleaner and maintenance would solve this issue. Do Not Waste your Money pre-paying for this hell hole.
- Verified traveler (2/5): ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Did not stay. - I booked a twin for me and my sister. It was a double NOT a twin. Filthy dirty sheets, mould on walls. One old saggy disgusting bed. (I booked a twin) no linen. Broken toilets with no toilet paper. Old broken settee. Broken lights. Mould on walls. Wrecked car parked outside. Photo not true to booking. Did not stay. Would not put my dog in it. Requested refund as not what I ordered. No response from owner. Will be seeking legal advise to recover costs.
- Vivian (2/5): - We. spent 2 hrs driving around trying to find the place. When we did find it there was no one there to help us with our reservation. The place is dirty and rundown. Expedia has a nerve even promoting this dump. I want my money back.
- Joby (6/5): - It was just ok, it was not the pod that we booked and what we got. It sould have been more clean, shuld have osme basic facilities
- Andy (4/5): Not Glamping as I know it. - Their definition of Glamping clearly differs from mine. It was basically a large barrel with hard vinyl cushions that you lie on. One of the overhead lights didn’t work and neither did the one outside the door so getting up in the middle of the night and not falling over was a challenge. The area is lovely though. I just think for the money they could include WiFi in the huts make the huts a little more “glamorous”.
- Danielle (6/5): Better facilities than many campsites - Over all we enjoyed our stay. We particularly liked that the 17 bus from Inverness would stop outside at request leaving and going to the hostel. The kitchen was suitable for our needs and the showers were hot and quite clean. We stayed for 1 week at the site. The first few days in Hagrid's hut. We thought the hut could be improved regarding the mattress and bedding. The Hobbit hut was exactly what we should have booked in the first place. Nature walks near by, and a good remote location to escape from the city. Come prepared with mosquito repellent.
- Paul (10/5): - A great place to start only a 5 mins walk to the bus station for a trip in to Edinburgh ,supermarket 5 mins away and petrol on the doorstep 😁
- Patty (2/5): - Bathrooms were shared by men and women as well as showers. Property was full of trash surrounding huts. My friend had to throw away a rotten quart of milk someone left on porch of the hut we rented. Trash all over property especially in front of toilet area and showers. It was very unkept. We called the number for help with a minor issue and no one returned our call. Only one light worked in the pod. I flipped over mattress to put on a sheet and there was mold and dust all along the frames of the wall where sleeping matts go. We were so excited booking this spot and were so disappointed.upon arrival. The only nice thing about this spot was the creek. Please don't waste your hard earned money staying here.
- Najeeb (2/5): - Very dirty, no good at all not recommend it I’m not stay that night I asking my money back. Picture with reality that plays completely different.
- Edward (10/5): - Easy checkin process. The mattresses need replacing i think. A couple were tough to sleep on because of the metal springs.
- Florence (2/5): - On arrival I had no way to get into the pod as had not been given any information. The shower block wad disgusting from the outside I didn't even venture in. The garden. Mud. The outside of pod covered in cobwebs. Inside. Floor had been mopped. Mattresses were really thin. I found a phone number and some random guy came down to tell me I should have been notified how to get into pod. If I had I would not have needed to contact them. He stayed for approx 2 minutes and walked away while I was trying to ask a question. I left after 30 minutes after finding other accommodation. This place should be demolished. Obviously Expedia do not check properties they are advertising. If Expedia would like photos I have a few. Didn't stay long enough to take more. It's disgusting. Please avoid at all cost.
- Robin (2/5): BEWARE- must supply own bed linens and towels - Well- if I could give this experience 0 stars I would. Less than an hour after I booked this non- refundable stay- the place emailed me and said the customer had to supply all the bedding and towels. I don’t have a problem with this concept. I have a HUGE problem with neither Hotel.com nor BCC letting me know BEFORE booking that I needed to supply the bedding and towels. We were traveling for over 2 weeks and did not have the space to carry our own bedding. If I had known, I would never have booked this location. Within 1 minute of receiving this email that I had to supply this stuff on my own, I tried to contact both Hotels.com and BCC to ask to get a refund. Hotel.com said it is up to the property. The property NEVER RESPONDED to my requests. I had to eat the costs of the booking and book another place. Again, the place looked super cute on Hotels.com, but be aware- they only tell you after they you have to supply your own bedding.
- Stephen (8/5): Great value - One of the messages from the property didn't come through, the one that gave decent directions. Several places en route looked like they were the property. It took a while, but we eventually found it. Apparently there's a kitchen on site, but we only found one in the hostel across the street? Had a hard time finding the switch to turn on the hot water, I tried messaging the property, but it was late and I never got a response. The switch was pretty big by the showers, I probably missed it since I was tired. The cabin was a little dingy, maybe a bit of mold on the ceiling. But for the price (1/3 the price of a real hotel within 100 miles)it was still a great value for warm showers and taking a break from tent camping.
- Maureen (4/5): - Unless you've a car or get a bus (which i suspect are few and far between) you'd struggle to get there unless you were walking.
The pod itself was okay but could do with a lick of pain and tidying up a bit, as could the toilet block.
There was no signage and further out than we thought.
We'd a lovely view of the river and the kids liked it, however as a parent staying with 2 kids it was unnerving that there was no staff presence or security measures,
It was fine for something different for the kids and a one night stay, maybe more suited for backpackers or someone needing somewhere small for a stop over for a night
- Corrine (2/5): - Pod 1 I stayed in was terrible, unliveable, disgusting, the property was not well maintained, the lock on the door was definitely not safe as it has previously been knocked off and a bolt in place of it. The noises of the rats in the pods was terrifying I ended up not being able to stay there for the duration of my time. The owner of the place did not give a toss and was so rude on the phone when we phoned to complain! Thankfully the lady that worked there was nice and was able to move me into the hostel over the road which was 100x times. The pod 1 had a smoke alarm that was hidden underneath bedding that had been left from previous customers and it had been all peed on by rats. This is no way to run a business. The whole place was just unkept and would recommend anyone to NOT stay there. It’s not worth the money find something nicer, safer, and cleaner.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Check went smoothly thanks to good communications. A nice peaceful spot, great value, and had a great nights sleep listening to the stream trickling by.
- Patrick (2/5): - Booked for a family of 4. Arrived at a seemingly desolate glamping site including a smashed up, abandoned car! We were alone in a place that seemed to have fallen on hard times. For safety, we left and put this one down to experience.
- Craig McBain (4/5): Avoid unless desperate - Booked for my wife and 2 dogs. No one there to check in with. Had to ask neighbour. After 5-10 minutes woman came out chewing food so close to my ear my wife stepped away. She did apologise for eating. I booked a wigwam/chalet - my wife was put into a hostel room. Dirty floors, shower scum so thick she couldn’t close the door. Toilet brush welded to the floor, with rust. Broken chair on old walkway, old cigarette tabs in a wet pot outsude the door.
- Jim (4/5): - The Pods were in a dilapidated condition. I was in Pod 1 but it had no lock and door was broken. I was offered Pod 2 which was slightly better but dirty. There were loose wires hanging from the light fittings. The door was a split door, top & bottom, but the latch holding them together was broken and only held together by a 2 inch wood screw, most of which was sticking out. I did catch my arm on it once or twice...The toilet block was relatively clean but the there are various loose fittings...There is a kitchen across the main road which did look clean and functional but I never used it. The best thing was definitely the small river by the pod and the views beyond.
- Laura (2/5): - This was the worse place we could have picked to stay! The cabin was full of mold, and the bed broke when one of my adult kids went to lay down. We tried to talk to the maintenance man when he was there, and he just laughed in our faces. We've emailed, and the only response was to say, "we hope you had a good time". We stayed 1 of the 2 nights we paid for, and that was on the floor. Nothing about any refund or anything.
STAY AWAY!
- Linda (8/5): - Work still being done on buildings. Lack to toilet paper.
- Tina (8/5): Neat little place - Great one night stay. A little pricey for what it is, but it was a neat little place. Pretty standard accommodations a little farther out than I expected, but would recommend.
- Angela (2/5): - No key code to get in until 8.20
- Cory (2/5): - We ended up not staying here and going to a nearby hostel. No staff to be found anywhere. We booked hagrids hut, which looked nice and cute when first opening the door however when we actually looked around the hut was filled with insects, dead and alive. Some insects are to be expected of course you’re surrounded by trees, but we did not expect to find dead insects stuck to the walls, ceiling, under the bed, lamp shade and the mirror was covered in cobwebs. There was nothing to stop bugs coming in either as there were big gaps in the door frame. This lead us the question the last time the hut was actually cleaned and whether the bed sheets were even fresh. Facilities were the same, insects everywhere, however the facilities themselves were actually okay and functional. Another reason we didn’t stay was our window didn’t have curtains or blinds which we were very uncomfortable with as a foot path went right around the hut. We just knew we’d have spent the whole night swatting away bugs and being paranoid about someone looking into the window.
- Heather (2/5): - Dust, mould, dead insects, spiders everywhere, rat inside the pod, forced to leave early.
- Ian (8/5): Nice site to spend a night or two - Nice spot for a bit of glamping, however the postcode didnt take me to the site and when i got there is was pitch black and i didnt know where to park
- Francis (4/5): Cold - Last minute booking as needed somewhere in a hurry. I knew it was a glamping site but wasn’t prepared for no bedding provided. Thankfully I had a very light sleeping bag with me, absolutely freezing the night I stayed. You really need to be prepared for this site.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This is one property I would not go back to. The pictures provided were no where like the property’s that were on this site. The kitchen was not even on the same side of the road (A831). There was no out look from inside the property as the glass was frosted in the only window (door). It was generally clean in the property.
- Irene (10/5): Hidden Highland jewel so beautiful lovely pods 😍 - Love love love.this is so lovely and quiet the pods tiolets and showers were spotless. I booked for 2 night but it was so nice I extended my stay for another 3 nights .
Owner and the ground man Derek was amazing very helpful and friendly.
Will definitely be back asap great location and plenty of lovely walks also drives
I didn't need to travel much as u was over the moon staying on site right on a beautiful part of the river
Pods are all different and self catering which is so for me . definitely would recommend this wee Highland jewel.
- Matt (10/5): - Loved the igluhut, it was a great place to stay and rest after a long day on the hill.
Would definitely recommend it
- Verified traveler (4/5): Great location, shame about the accomodation!! - We stayed in POD number 6. On arrival there was cigarette ends, bottle tops etc in the garden. In the POD there was again bottle tops, plastic packaging and other bits and pieces in the drawers. In normal circumstances this would be classed as dirty but in a global pandemic not acceptable. POD not sanitised to COVID 19 standards. There was no toilet roll in the toilet block for well over 12 hours. (We had our own) The POD was freezing. We asked if we could have a heater a rude man told us there was not enough to go around. Its October what do you expect. Should of brought your own the PODs are only meant for summer. Howver we were also advised not to plug anything stronger than a phone charger in the POD or it blows the electrics. Thats why we never brought our own. However somebody must have as the electrics did blow and the whole camp was in darkness for two hours. The PODs are cheap but not cheerful. The furniture is a bit run down and as I said they are dirty.
- Raffy (10/5): - It is what you should expect from glamping. It is not a hotel. Very quirky and unique. The fact that it’s right next to a flowing stream makes the experience even more memorable. We slept well and had a lovely time. I guess the only thing I could comment is to give more TLC to the hut (we stayed in Hagrid’s house) and make it smell more fresh and clean :)
- Kyllie (10/5): Hidden little gem❤ - This little hidden gem does not get enough credit! The surrounding were beautiful and the huts look nothing like they do in the pictures! They are very warm and comfortable. Shared showers and toilets are fine, perhaps needing a lick of paint but dont stop them from working fine and remeber they are shared so male and female in the same ones!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in Hagrid’s house, and we were so impressed with how nice it was. Fantastic location by the river and very fun Harry Potter decor throughout. Great shower/bathroom facilities (remember to bring your own towels, soap, etc). Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hut was very unique as it was Harry Potter themed and we loved that. It was dry had a heater and plugs. We loved staying there. The bed was really comfortable. We decided to buy a couple pillows as u only get one each. This made our stay even more comfortable. I also liked the fact we could use the facilities in the lodge i.e kitchen, wi-fi and dining area. We would definitely stay here again. 😁😍
- Verified traveler (2/5): AVOID - The pod absolutely stank, there was a dead mouse on the floor, bedding was not provided and the sheet on the bed definitely was not clean. Advertised WiFi but it does not reach the pods. Manager is rude and condescending, avoid at all costs
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Had booked accommodation with twin beds. Arrived to be given a double.
Owners reaction was disgraceful. Told us that he only had doubles and it was Expedia's fault that it was described as a twin. He went on to say that he would be happy to give us a refund because he could easily relet the accommodation. It was all about him and we, as customers, didn't matter.
- Richard (8/5): - A grat place to rest your head and great value for the money paid
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The place could be lovely but is in need for lots tlc and lots of repairs needing done, the childrens play park is terrible and is an unsafe place.
- KK (4/5): - The room was cramped and beds old and rather uncleaned. We needed to pay for sleeping bags as there were no blankets nor bedsheets.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value for the price:) - Superb:)
- Rochelle (10/5): - Very nicely situated next to the river the facilities were clean The Manager was very accommodating and patient as we were late to check in overall very please .
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dirty & dated - Following a disgruntled welcome we were shown our cabin (hut). These are dates and ours was dirty.
I followed up our visit with a call & was told I should have taken this up with the less than welcoming staff & that they had planned to upgrade us - but didn’t. Shan’t be returning though choice.
- Stephanie (10/5): Wild spot. - Amazing remote wild spot. Great for those self contained (food) style travellers. Super friendly service and quirky accomodation pods by a babbling brook. Loved it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely welcome to the area, and everything we could have needed for a low price. Would definitely stay again.
- Scott (10/5): Great stay - Nice, comfortable, clean and cheap! Located in a quiet village by the water and right next to a pub serving great food, ale and whisky. Spot on!
- Helen (8/5): Relaxing family couple of days, enjoying outdoors - Beautiful wee space. Camping/Glamping pods vary in price, quality and amenities as hotels do, don’t pay for Travel Inn and expect top class Radisson. These pods are the same, the build is good, beds are fine, individual gardens are such a great addition.
There are many different pods locally but are so much more expensive, think twice to three times the price.
So lovely to sit out and hear the little river at the bottom of your garden. Bathrooms were ok, could be better looked after and not cleaned every hour etc.
I am a really particular type of traveller, staying away regularly in business trips and I expect top notch in 5* establishments, this however is not 5* . I expected it to be a bit ‘dodgy’, but a quick once over the surfaces with a packet of wipes and all was fine.
Thoroughly enjoyed our two nights, would be very happy to stay again. You get what you pay Fif
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK accomodation - Accomodation was OK, shared bathrooms were in a terrible state
- tracy (2/5): - the site looked like a building site, building materials everwhere, rubbish thrown around, hobbit house was ok but appeared not finished, no water even though sink and bathroom was in. pity about this as it could be great, would not stay again
