Guest Reviews
- Anne (1/5): Bad - THIS HOTEL CLOSED DOWN A MONTH AGO - DO NOT BOOK! Booking.com took my full payment two days before the trip and have failed to respond to my messages despite promising to do so within 24 hours.
- Anne (4/5): - This inn is closed! We arrived after booking and paying for our rooms to find it had closed. No notice - no communication! A scramble to find another room in this area.
Do not book!!!
- Ian (8/5): Very good - No one there when we arrived. But we took a room that had keys in the door so no problem really. Just a little confusing.
- Simon (1/5): Closed - It's closed It's closed
- Alison (7/5): Good -

- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Humphries (10/5): Nice caring considerate people to stay with, next time we are up this way we will try to get in here - Although not a modern building it was maintained to a good standard N/A
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Melissa (7/5): Good - The staff were friendly and amazing, the breakfast was good! The room and bathroom were a little dated
- Andrew (6/5): St Cyrus village inn - Room was small but tidy, bed was a double, not great but ok. Towels were very thin. Almost see through. Shower cubicle was tiny, shower head could only sit straight up, if ypu angled it at all it just flopped over. Pressure and temperature was ok. TV was tiny. Inn gave us a packed lunch for the next day due to breakfast not starting till 9am. The website said breakfast 7 till 9. Not great for £70. Probably not use it again
- Jacqueline (8/5): Very good - Really good value and great food.
- Alan (10/5): - Value for money. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Clean. My room was quiet.
- James (6/5): - Staff all really nice. Its really handy for the cliffs which has a beautiful beach below. The hotel is in need of a revamp for sure. Let's hope it can remain in business in the future because its the only public house, restaurant/ hotel in the village
- Grahame (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (7/5): Served a purpose. - Evening meal excellent; low priced accommodation. Breakfast average, although I wasn’t expecting breakfast with the price paid as not stipulated on booking.com. No toiletries in bathroom (only hand wash). TV reception poor, which may have been due to a loose aerial connection.
- István (1/5): Bad - Nothing. We arrived at the hotel at 11:30 AM, which is after the stated check-in time of 11:00 AM. Upon arrival, we found the main entrance locked and received no answer when we called the listed phone number. After walking around the building, we located an open side door and called inside. A member of the kitchen staff responded and kindly let us in. Eventually, at around 11:50 AM, a hotel employee arrived and provided us with the key to our room.
Our reservation was for a room for two people, but upon entering the room, we were shocked by its poor and unhygienic condition. The room had a strong musty smell, and overall cleanliness was unacceptable.
In the bathroom, there was only:
one bath towel (which had rust-like stains),
one hand towel, and
one bath mat, which was visibly dirty.
The room contained two beds – one double and one single:
The single bed’s duvet was visibly stained with what appeared to be bodily fluids, and the sheet was extremely wrinkled, suggesting it had not been changed.
The double bed’s duvet appeared cleaner but was also wrinkled. When we folded it back, we noticed grey lint and dust on the lower part of the bed.
The carpet was heavily soiled, with visible marks from spilled liquids, and both the entry area and the space near the bathroom door were particularly dirty.
- Martin (10/5): food was very good. dinner and breakfast. - breakfast was very good served with a lovely smile. having to leave.
- Martin (10/5): could not ask for any better. - breakfast was very good served with a smile. very helpful lady and nothing was a problem. having to leave to go home.
- Faustina (10/5): Affordable hotel with excellent food. - Very friendly and helpful staff. We had our supper here and the food was incredible! We'd go back just for the food alone.
- Philip (9/5): I will use again. - Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (10/5): - A real hotel with creaky floors and rooms of varied sizes and shapes to suit the converted old building - not the typical block of modern, universal design.
- Tom (7/5): Greeted with a friendly smile and were extremely helpful.Food was very good and the morning staff were very attentive - Lovely friendly staff and food was very good.
Premises very clean Requires updating. Toilet noisy and mattress seen better days
- Susan (4/5): Disappointing - The lady on breakfast service was very good. My room smelled of gas. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower went from warm to hot, then freezing cold without me touching anything.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff and the food was amazing.
Unfortunately due to the cost of corruption prices are up, but a very good helping and filling. Nothing to dislike
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Johnwilliam (7/5): Good -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Alexander_mrr (6/5): fine for an overnight - location was great for an overnight stay, room decor was lacking but i believe there is a refurbishment program. Double bed was smaller than i would have liked. Room was clean and well kept. Staff helpfully microwaved my breakfast i had brought with me. staff friendly and helpful, would stay again
- James (9/5): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The welcoming, the attention to detail with the concise explanation of the layout of the property, the food ( which was the beer battered fish an chips ABSOLUTELY
Delicious, there was a local darts match being held, but once up in my room, there was no indication of that
Whats so ever, bed comfort good, the choice of breakfast very very good I.e cereals juice's, the option of what you wanted in the cooked breakfast, outstanding in my opinion. Travel a great deal in my line of work. One of the best I’ve come across in a long long while ( the double use of words is not a typo error it’s to convey the quality of my stay
- Andy (8/5): Very good - Good food, pleasant surroundings, friendly atmosphere .
- Sharon (10/5): Overnight stay - Very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent from our family birthday lunch to breakfast in the morning before departure.
Rooms and the bed were comfortable.

Stayed here for one night whilst working in the area.
Nothing at all to complain about. Staff were really friendly and made you feel welcome. Food was good,
Both evening meal and breakfast.
At the time of my visit the accommodation was being redecorated which gave the place a more modern feel.
I wouldn't have a problem stopping here again.
- Clifton (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Sophie (8/5): Lovely wee get away - The Inn was perfect for my needs. It was very comfortable and dog friendly. The food was delicious and the menu was very well priced. A good place to relax and enjoy the local beach. It was a shame that breakfast wasn't available the next morning but it was Jan 1st and everyone deserves a day off :)
- Grzegorzewski (7/5): Good -
- Jaickes (9/5): Relaxed and cosy place. - Friendly Staff and clean All good.

- Suzanne (8/5): Very good -
- Ronald (4/5): Not to be repeated - Not a lot. Staff were helpful Tired decor. Awful bed
- Yvonne (7/5): Comfortable country hotel, comfortable room, friendly staff, good cooked breakfast, good location. -
- Michael (7/5): Very pleasant - The food and staff were very good No Comment
- Garry (10/5): Nice little hotel - The hotel is easy to find with plenty of parking. Check in was quick and the girl who showed me to the room was very polite and friendly. The room is big enough for what I needed, although maybe a little dated and the only thing I would really say that was a negative is the room was cold. There was no heater in the room and no air conditioning to heat it up. I do prefer a slightly cooler room but this was cold. The bed itself is comfortable but cold when I first got it but once it got warm I slept well. The dinner menu had a good selection and the food was very good and plentiful. Overall it’s not too bad a place and if the temperature of the rooms was warmer I would stay again.
- clark (8/5): - Very comfortable and off the beaten track so pretty quiet. V little passing traffic. Rooms basic but spotless. Would certainty stay again.
- Janet (8/5): Everything was good . We were very comfortable. -
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (8/5): Great hosts and a comfy clean room. - Hosts were brilliant a great breakfast set you up for the day. Didnt like the pump toilets very loud in the morning especially when you are up at 06.30 for work and dont want to wake other guests. The room was comfy and clean and warm . Andy and Daniel were great hosts and i would stay again when in the area.
- David (8/5): If the mattress was a little more giving it would have been a perfect stay - The owner / staff were really great as was the food and service. Property was clearly signed and easy to find and the car park was spacious Bed was really hard and I had trouble sleeping
- Pauline (8/5): Lovely little stay - Lovely food and staff
- Gillian (10/5): Very nice, good food, nice room, would definitely stay again - Very comfortable and a good breakfast. Really good to be able to have it early. I also had a lovely bar meal. Also, the nearby St Cyrus nature reserve was an unexpected bonus, I had a super walk after a long car journey and would recommend it.
- Mike (3/5): Poor - Nothing really Dark, dirty carpets, small shower no towel rails shower gel or water glasses. Very poor bed, road noise. Poor cereals
- Graham (9/5): Superb - The evening meal was superb Nothing
- Margaret (10/5): Highly Recommend - We had a wonderful stay the staff were excellent, close to the beach, if you staying in St Cyrus you have to see the beach.
Every one in the village are very nice
Food is amazing in restaurant and breakfast was lovely.
Highly recommend staying at the St Cylus Village Inn
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Graeme (1/5): Awful Hotel, do not book - Location is good to visit other places in the area Bed mattress is thin to the point you sit on it and you feel the solid base underneath, there are stains on the mattress as well, room had an awful damp smell, stains all over the carpets, they also advertise pictures of rooms with gas showers but they are electric. Staff member was rude upon arrival as well. No signs anywhere to tell you to go through the back to enter, but she made it out as if it was my fault as well. Hotel in general is very dated. Would avoid booking this hotel and go elsewhere nearby.
- Renee (6/5): Don’t advertise a king size bed when it’s really a full size - Staff was very nice and helpful Advertised as a king size bed. It was only a full size and very uncomfortable. Linens were worn and should be replaced.
- Morag (10/5): Had a great time, lovely people that makes a difference. - Breakfast was very good 💯 ,all staff were very friendly and helpful.eveing meal was excellent value for the money.great family place to stay. Nothing.
- Russ (8/5): Very good - Excellent evening meal
- Vojtech (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (10/5): Lovely friendly staff with excellent food, great stay - Friendly staff, amazing food, even Grandson ate full Scottish breakfast Bedding is very dated, bed mattress/divan not the most comfortable but slept in worse
- Achim (7/5): Quaint hotel - Quaint little hotel and pub. Kitchen closed at 8pm so we had to make other arrangements
- James (8/5): - The evening meals were excellent
- Esme (10/5): Exceptional - Great food, lovely hosts, clean room and comfy bed.
Staff were so lovely to my little boy, we will be back next year.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hosts, and excellent food.
Very good homemade food every day and very good breakfast
- Jacqui (8/5): An easy stop en route, close to the sea - good walks - superb breakfast. - This Inn on the side of the road was a typical stopping en route spot. My trip was part work and part seeing friends, had a great walk both days to the beach with my dog. Another time I was able to meet a friend and went to Montrose. Parking at the hotel was fine. Good value Inn B&B.
My room was roadside, comfy and perfectly fine for the price. The rooms are made up daily, good towels and tea making facilities. It's a busy through road but quietens down around 10:30pm
I didn't get to try the pub meals BUT....
What did I think of the breakfast ? !! Superb - a really beautifully cooked breakfast, served on a HOT plate, makes such a difference to the pleasure of enjoying a full english or rather Scottish !
Really, I think the woman was called Tanya makes a brilliant brekkie! She checked what I wanted and then executed to perfection.
The second day I chose something different and again it didn't disappoint, there were cereals and juice available to start. Tea and toast to suit. Nothing really. I’ve seen some reviews saying the traffic on the main road was an issue. I was roadside in a great room and there was some traffic on the main road thru but it was quiet from around 10:30pm until around 6:30 am and I have my windows open.
It’s a roadside inn so I kind of expected some sounds from the main route.
- Craddock (10/5): We will be back :) - Ideal location not too far from a fabulous beach. The staff and locals are super friendly, and the food is delicious. The rooms may be a little dated but that adds to the charm of this lovely wee place. Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Excellent in all ways. - The owners and staff are amazing. Nothing was a problem and so helpful. Breakfast was very good and the home cooked food was excellent. Nothing to dislike.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - This is an amazing and unique little inn. In a world of generic hotels this was perfect, shower, amazing bed perfect, and the most amazing staff, thankyou St Cyrus, perfect break Nothing, it was an amazing place to spend the night
- Kathleen (7/5): Good -
- Frank (10/5): Great stay , stress free check in easy to find/ park. - Above the pub/ restaurant so after a great night socialising in pub a short walk to room. The room was spacious, clean , plenty natural light.
Parking off street at back pub ideal.
All staff polite, cheerful, professional.
Breakfast was freshly cooked/ tasty .
We Enjoyed our stay and will return.
- Allan (9/5): Excellent accommodation and staff, bit of work needed on the catering side! - Lots to like about the Inn! Really friendly staff, spacious and very comfortable rooms, loved the local beach! Disappointing options for vegetarians, both for evening meals and notably for breakfast. Morning coffee tasted suspiciously like instant in a pot!
- Alan (9/5): Just what I needed after a long drive - Quite and staff looked after guests Nothing
- Anne (8/5): We will be back if up in that area again - Very friendly staff.. room was basic but clean, food was fabulous Maybe fresher newer towels
- Garry (9/5): Superb -
- Suzie (7/5): A very hospitable place - The staff were welcoming and very hospitable couldn’t do enough. The food was absolutely delicious both evening meal and breakfast. Unfortunately for us the bed in room 5 was less than comfortable for our taste, so only a couple of hours sleep was had. We are also light sleepers used to a more quiet setting and the noise from the road also disturbed us.
- Paul (9/5): Flying visit to an old friend, thoroughly enjoyed - Location perfect for our visit.
Bar / pool - very friendly.
Breakfast - very good.
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly
- Lyndon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (7/5): Good location outside Montrose - Good location as we were visiting relatives in nearby Laurencekirk. Breakfast also good. Bed could have been more comfortable. Also bedding and towels need replacing.
- Eva (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, food was amazing. Room was a bit dated, could benefit from more shelves in the bathroom.
- Dominika (7/5): Good - Not bad for a short stay. Average hotel, loud pub downstairs. Need some refreshing.
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - Staff friendliness and cooked breakfast were nice touches The car park was full and had to reverse onto a main road
- Yohan68 (8/5): Very good - Very nice staff and great food n drinks! Bit of a small shower, but that's all. Great place to stay!
- Alistair (6/5): Fitted my purpose for one night . Cheap and cheerful - The breakfast was enough .
The location was convenient but is on a busy road Standard Scottish small hotel . Don't expect luxury's.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Mike (9/5): Pleasant stay, clean room, good food and very friendly helpful staff - Good access to main route, quiet at night. Very clean room.
- White (8/5): Very good -
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent breakfast and great location. Nothing
- Graham (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast. Large rooms! Convenient for Montrose. Will go back again. Decor a little dated in my room and needs a cosmetic make over but really irs fine for the money.
- Fletcher (7/5): A nice place in need of a little updating to match the friendly staff and very good food - The staff were lovely and the food very good The overal appearance of the hotel. On arrival the outside is not inviting and the bedroom although big is in need of updating. It’s a shame as first impressions were not a true picture of the well run inn, its lovely staff and excellent food.
