Guest Reviews
- Nina (10/5): -
- Christine (10/5): Five stars - Highly recommend! The decor is just as beautiful IRL as it is in the photos. It is a guesthouse so there’s no 24/7 staffing but the staff member I met preparing breakfast was so kind and helpful so there’s still very much a human touch!
The breakfasts are served in little picnic baskets outside of your room with delicious coffee and fresh fruit. You can also text them anytime and they’re super responsive - our room had a minor issue and it was solved as soon as we let them know. The location is also great, walking distance to some lovely cafes and shopping areas. All the access are with simple codes so checking in was easy and you don’t have to fuss with key cards.
Pricing was very reasonable for the area so I felt like there was great value! Would definitely stay here again - thank you! Nothing
- Christopher Giarraputo (10/5): Very comfortable and convenient to everything we needed. - Beautiful, large house in a great historic residential neighborhood very close to downtown, but seperate enough to feel quiet and relaxed. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast buffet nicely done, fire going in the fireplace in the morning was really a nice touch. Parking very easy in the provided area.
Bedroom large and bed and bedding very comfortable. Bathroom great with a large walkin shower. Nothing!
- Aleksei (9/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): What a fun, restful, and delicious weekend getaway! - The Inn is artsy beautiful, comfortable, quiet. The one fellow on the premises - Aaron - was fabulous and helpful. The host would check in via text to see how we were doing - we felt cared for and safe and wonderfully on our own too. We LOVED everything! The seamless checking in process, the beauty and comfort, the close location to stores, the snacks, the comfy bed! There was nothing to dislike!
- Tricia (4/5): Not the bang for the buck - comfortable room and willingness to move us to companion hotel when power went out. breakfast uninspiring no material on getting around Portland, no city map.
- Beverly (10/5): -
- John (9/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Shellie (7/5): - Location was pretty good Its really a self serve b and b - rooms are OK - there are better boutique hotels in portland
- Sunil (2/5): - Pls call me
- CHUFENG (10/5): family like and comfort place , look forward to stay again - we had very good sleep nothing
- David (9/5): Very comfortable and memorable stay. - Lovely brownstone unit. The room was furnished beautifully and the leisure areas were excellent. Breakfast pack was interesting and did the job. We were on the top floor. The steps were very steep.
Not everyone drinks coffee. Tea or fruit juice would be a good addition to the breakfast pack.
No television.
- Sarah (10/5): Gorgeous and one of a kind - Beautiful, well appointed property. Clean, very friendly staff, quiet, comfortable furniture and bed.
- Alexandra (8/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - Loved the place
- Crystal (6/5): We had an issue when we first checked in and the staff was prompt and accommodating. The spaces are lovely but we were d - The property was beautiful with many spots for sitting in the public areas. The breakfast was nice along with the available snacks and beverages. The AC in our room was not able to properly cool the room and the WiFi could not support movie streaming. Although the ambiance was lovely, temperature and wifi are basics that should be working exceptionally at a property of this caliber.
- Annabel (10/5): - Beautiful space, super clean, walking distance to lots of activity, great service
- Kent (10/5): - The Blind Tiger was a gem. It was convenient and private enough to enjoy with staff available 24/7 with and questions. The room, lobby and all areas were immaculate and brilliantly arranged. I would definitely go again!
- Carol (10/5): -
- Sabrina (8/5): - Clean and well decorated. Our room felt rather damp and was relatively small. It’s in a nice neighborhood but a little further walk from the old port. For the price we paid, we just felt the value was not there.
- Ted (10/5): - Great location. Quiet street. Well maintained property. Warm and welcoming.
- Gabrielle (10/5): Perfectly designed and very cozy. Beds were super soft and the rooms were comfortabl! - Very sweetly decorated and in the perfect location. Beds were super comfy!
- Davide (9/5): A beautifully designed hotel with outstanding service, though the breakfast experience didn’t quite match the high stand - The hotel was exceptionally beautiful and thoughtfully curated down to the finest details. Every corner felt intentional and elegant. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, consistently going above and beyond to accommodate our requests. The location was perfect—central and convenient—with parking available just off-site, which made everything very easy. While I understand we may have been the only guests during our stay, the breakfast was quite disappointing. The idea of having it served in the room was lovely in theory, but receiving just two yogurts on the first day felt underwhelming. We requested something savoury for the second morning, and while the staff were kind and provided bagels, it still didn’t meet the expectations set by the hotel’s calibre, especially considering the photos and reviews I had seen beforehand.
- Pontus (4/5): If you travel for business not ideal - This hotel is slightly more upscale than your typical business chain, and it may be a great option for leisure travelers. However, for a business stay, it fell a bit short. The limited breakfast hours (8–10 AM) meant we had to leave without eating, and I couldn’t find any coffee available in the lobby before heading out. Additionally, the room didn’t have a desk, which made it difficult to get work done, something I rarely come across in hotels. On a positive note, the snack room was a nice touch and much appreciated.
- Katie (10/5): - We loved our stay at Blind Tiger! So many thoughtful touches.
- Cristian (10/5): - One of the best hotel/bnb experiences I’ve had in my past year of travels. Would recommend to anyone going to Maine.
- Beth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): - Charming place to stay.
- Anna (10/5): Such a beautiful experience - WOW! What an amazing hotel! We had such a beautiful stay and LOVED Portland. The room was so comfortable and quiet. Beautifully appointed too. As an interior designer, I kept taking pictures and videos of all the beautiful details. The hotel company left the most amazing list of restaurants and things to do and we’re so glad we took their advice. We found spots we would never have known about otherwise. The Japanese restaurant they recommend was OUT OF THIS WORLD!
- Christopher (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Matthew (10/5): - Beautiful. May our paths cross again next time.
- Orla (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful property, friendly staff and great location.
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Love staying in old B&B houses that have been tastefully modernized inside. Staff was very helpful with accommodations.
- Janet (9/5): Very comfortable stay in a residential neighborhood in Portland - The hotel is very unique. It's in an old victorian home in a residential neighborhood. The entire space is very comfortable. Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. The breakast was a lovely buffet with many options. The only thing I can say is all communication is via text and email. They text you when your room is ready and give you codes to enter the building and your room. Not necessarily a bad thing, just different.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Pros: it's a nice-looking converted house in a good neighborhood. the staff was friendly. and I appreciated their guide to local restaurants, bars and activities.
Cons: one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I've ever slept on. felt similar to a cheap pull-out couch, where you sink to the bottom and can feel a support bar in the middle. we struggled to fall asleep and woke up with aches and pains. completely sub-standard, especially for the price (almost $600/night incl. taxes). also, our bathroom had a cord hanging from the ceiling, with a bare wire where a light fixture would normally be.
- Feralio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marylou (10/5): Great old house is most welcoming - Lovely old house and garden. Welcomed in a genuinely firendly manner. Nice little amenities, great breakfast
- Christina (5/5): Passable -
- Jessica (10/5): - Rooms were absolutely beautiful. Great breakfast and lots of thoughtful touches including free snack bar, board games and local recommendations. Highly recommend!
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Love the pantry with excellent coffee machine and every little snack you could want :)
- Elizabeth (4/5): Could have stayed somewhere else - Modern, clean when I arrived. Free snacks. No one cleaned our room after our first night and no was was there when we first checked in. Feels like an airbnb and the prices do not reflect what you get. I felt like I was living in some random person’s house. It did not feel personalized or client centered at all. It just a nice looking house thats about it.
- Robert (9/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful, atmospheric hotel. Perfect for an indulgent or romantic getaway. - Beautifully decorated and atmospheric hotel. The bed was gigantic and very comfy, and the room more spacious than anticipated. Despite being fully booked, the house felt quiet and private. The snack bar was fully loaded every day - a real treat. Location was fantastic; very easy to explore the city by foot. Staff were readily available throughout our stay, and nice to communicate with. We stayed for three nights, and would have liked our room tidied and bed made up everyday without having to request it. Our bed was made up after our first night, but trash wasn’t taken away. The bathroom had no space for wet bath towels to be hung to dry, which was a bit of a nuisance.
- Ruth (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Chandler (10/5): - Best place to stay in Portland! The decor, service and location are awesome, this is my second time staying here!
- Adrienne (10/5): - If you want something more
Eclectic and off the beaten path. Beautiful historic home that’s a bed and breakfast. Attt
- Antea (8/5): Beautiful trendy and historic property in a great area - Beautiful property
Feels like you are at home or a relatives home visiting. Really thoughtful unique furnishings, lovely room, great breakfast spread and coffee. The noise could use some work
Runners on the stairs, oil on the door hinges and something to slow the door down so it can’t be slammed would make a HUGE difference.
- Terry (8/5): Very good - Very welcoming , lovely room all accommodation is individual , quirky and decorations excellent and interesting Parking is first come first served which is not great but manageable if you are unlucky - don’t be put off because of it
- Anonymous (9/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Charming.
- Daniel (10/5): An eye candy B & B! - Well maintained, furnishings were great with the mix of modern and antiques. Color scheme throughout was very pleasing and restful. The pantry was a very nice option. Steep stairs for people with knee issues. Our shower was very small as it was not pictured in any room expectations so was a surprise.
- Haim (10/5): A must stay in Portland! Thank you Tamara for your kind hospitality! - On line check in most efficient. The hosts were hospitable and generous. coffee and tea on the house plus candy and cookies, a guest spoiling pantry!
The house is beautifully decorated, we had a huge bathroom and a the breakfast was very generous with so much thought and variety.
- Lolita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Parking is an issue
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donna (10/5): Very nice, would go back again - Breakfast was excellent! Location I think a car is needed. But very peaceful
- Philip (7/5): Good - Plumbing issue cut our morning short.
- Isabelle (8/5): Beautiful hotel and room…. But parking is a nightmare! - Amazing room, super comfortable. The hotel is truly beautiful and perfectly decorated. Parking is an issue. There are only a couple of spots to park your car, all other guests have to use street parking, which is max 2 hours at a time. This was really disappointing for a hotel of that class (and price). If you travelled long distance and want to arrive and relax without worrying about parking, then this is not the place to stay.
- susan (10/5): - Staff was so helpful and the breakfast was delicious! Our shower drained a little slow (old homes!) but they fixed it right away. It is a beautiful hotel in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood, but we could still walk to everything.
- Rachel (8/5): Very good - Having a keyless entry into the main door was really convenient. When I arrived there was a note left on the front door - outside - taped on the glass. I appreciate it a lot, but was concerned because it had all of my info in it - including the door code and my room number. Anyone who wasn't me could have walked up and read the paper and seen all of the info. I found that very concerning especially since I received an email with all of the info that was already on the paper. If the paper had been left inside the door, I would have felt better about it.
- Scott (7/5): Good -
- Enrique (10/5): - A stay at Blind Tiger is like visiting a gracious and stylish friend. There are so many details that helped to make me feel welcome and at home. And the coffee in the morning is delicious!
Located in a residential neighborhood instead of a tourist area adds to feeling like a local. And I appreciated the excellent recommendations for places to eat in the "Guide" on the website.
Also Check-in and check-out were effortless; even though they were contact-less still felt personal.
- Deanna (9/5): Quiet and sophisticated accommodations. - The breakfast was expansive and delicious. The food was fresh. No parking option for large SUV. The small lot can not accommodate large vehicles and the street parking is limited to two hours. Luckily we didn’t receive a ticket.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (9/5): Great B&B in a fantastic location! - The place looks great after last year's renovation! The breakfast was really nice and the staff is superhelpful and kind. The rooms don't have a tv, which for us wasn't a bad thing, but good to know for others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is incredibly special. Wonderful service too.
- Arthur (9/5): Superb -
- Erin (10/5): Exceptional - Blind Tiger was a beautiful boutique hotel with a classic bed-and-breakfast vibe. The snack closet, welcoming lobby, and common areas really set a relaxed mood. Our room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom, while small, was perfect for two people. Air conditioner unit did not work. Parking a bit limited.
- Catherine (8/5): Gorgeous hotel. Squishy bed. - Loved the decor, loved the breakfast, and loved the location. The only thing I didn't love was the bed, which was super soft. Luckily my stay was only one night.
- Esther (6/5): Pleasant - Location and friendliness of staff. We expected a bed and breakfast. The breakfast was like an upscale Hampton Inn. There were no televisions in the room(and I only look at a tv on vacation). The other niceties of a bed and breakfast - freshly baked cookies, wine and soft drinks available - were not offered.
- Matthew (8/5): Lovely Boutique Guest House - Beautiful building and rooms. We came in the off-season and got a room upgrade. The breakfast on Day 1 was stunning, a selection of fruits, great bagels and yoghurt along with some amazing spreads. The staff were super nice. Within walking distance to the hospital. Breakfast on Day 2 was just a bread and butter pudding, which was lovely, but we were surprised it wasn't the same as the first day. Parking can be very tricky when there is snow!
- Marietta (10/5): Exceptional - Great experience. Loved the house. Nothing
- Philip (10/5): A lovely comfortable bed and breakfast hotel. Effiecient and very helpful staff. Would recommend. - The inn on Carleton is a well maintained Victorian property, with a very comfortable lounge and breakfast area. Our room was spacious, well fitted and very clean, with an excellent bathroom. Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house, great location. Breakfast buffet was delicious and plentiful.
- Tobias (9/5): Superb - Homey, comfortable, pleasant, classic feel Nothing
- Diana (8/5): Very good -
- Angelo (8/5): We were inly here for one night and arrived very late in the evening so we can't speak to the extent of the faciliti - Very comfortable and a great breakfast. Parking is a challenge.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Danny (10/5): - We loved the cleanliness of the property. They really kept it true the historic nature of the property, which we really appreciated.
We only had 2 small concerns:
1. The back garden was peaceful and beautiful, but a bit overgrown (trimming up and/or shaping some of the growth would have been nice
2.The shower in our bathroom was very difficult to adjust temperature (the knob kept falling off in our hand, but no big deal we managed just fine).
- Agatha (10/5): Excellent! - My stay was very comfortable the room was very clean.
Service and food were great.
- Robyne (10/5): - A lovely stay! The room was immaculate! The breakfast was delicious! We will be back!
- Elizabeth Clara (10/5): - Wonderful experience and hospitality! Made the visit to Portland extra special. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Small and cozy, extremely quiet, great breakfasts, host Jim is pleasant and knowledgeable about the area
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great quiet area in walking distance to restaurants and shopping. We did not need a car to get around.
Inn keeper very punctual, organized and courteous. All good!
- Harry (8/5): Three nights and two days in Portland. - We had a very comfortable two days in the Inn the room was quiet and very clean. Jim provided a delicious breakfast and in fact its was one of the best we have ever enjoyed in a hotel. The Inn was a short walk from the down town area and it was easy to walk to our restaurant fro dinner in the evenings.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the interior decorating. The bed was extremely comfortable. The service was great. This is my first time using an inn for accomodations.I was totally impressed!
- Andrew (10/5): Great Start to a State - The Inn on Carleton was an amazing start to a wonderful trip! Jim was the kindest and friendliest first face anyone could ask for when going to Portland! After some slight problems for our arrival, Jim was so accommodating and surprised my wife and I with gifts for our honeymoon! Breakfast was so good and we loved the home that we were in. We were easily able to get around Portland and find restaurants and fun activities all evening and morning.
- Monica (10/5): - I HIGHLY recommend staying at this charming, super clean Bed and Breakfast. Jim the owner is so helpful and nice! Not to mention that the breakfast included with your stay is by far the best I have had at any Bed and Breakfast that I have stayed at.
- Kyle (10/5): - The Inn on Carleton is a great property. Fantastic old house, super comfortable bed and room overall. The breakfasts were tasty and a great overall experience!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you are looking for something charming, this is the place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet rooms, excellent mattress and bedding/ towels, etc. Plenty of local info in room. Breakfast - incredible! Nice, unique other without being too sophisticated.
- Samantha (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at the Inn! Jim is a wonderful host and, after hearing a little bit about our plans, gave us some great recommendations for pre-dinner drinks in the area. Our room was very comfortable, and as other reviewers have mentioned, breakfast was fantastic! We highly recommend this B&B and look forward to a return visit.
- JPC (10/5): - Great location- Many restaurants, taverns, and sites within walking distance.
The breakfast served each morning was excellent!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was good. Only negative was the "group breakfast" concept for all guests. I would have preferred a buffet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely loved this place from the moment we stepped through the front door . Pristine , homely , and tastefully furnished.Jim is a perfect innkeeper , extremely informative but in no way intrusive plus his breakfasts are out of this world . One of the unique aspects of the inn is that there are snacks , fresh fruit and home baked goodies available in the afternoon/evening . We both enjoyed sitting around the table with other guests at breakfast , it was a wonderful start to the day and something I missed at our next stop in New England . I really hope we are able to return one day to this special place .
- Laurel (10/5): Great stay!! - We loved our room and Jim was incredible!
- Carol (10/5): Perfect stay - Warm welcome by proprietor. Very elegant and comfortable dining room and parlor. Delicious breakfast. Very quiet room. Beautiful linens and very comfortable bed. Every aspect of the stay was perfect.
