Ontbijt een feest en onze host, Ilse, had oog voor elk detail en niets was haar teveel. Hierdoor echt het gevoel dat je extra in de watten werd gelegd. We hebben genoten!

- GrandeJuan (8/5): Oasis Amidst the Hustle and Bustle of Tamarindo - My husband and I stayed at Ocho Artisan Bungalows for 5 days at the beginning of April. Part of our stay was difficult because I made the mistake of booking one of the 2 busiest times in Tamarindo, Semana Santa. The beach was so busy and loud, that we had to wear earplugs at night. When the busyness died down, Ocho became the oasis I had hoped it would be. The location right off the beach is so convenient to hop into the ocean and back onto a lounge chair by the pool. It was so nice to sit at the Beach Club in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for drinks. The staff here do all they can to make your stay enjoyable. Ilse was exceptional. She was always available to see if there was anything she could do for us. The bar staff, servers including Giovanni, and Jazmin and Silvia took good care of us, always smiling and friendly. We stayed in Casita 8, just to the side of the pool with a view of the ocean from our patio, I would call the room design Bohemian- with more of an emphasis on personal design rather then practicality. The room did lack furniture to put our items on and the wide open bathroom was really dark without an enclosed shower or water closet. Some windows did not have coverings, so if the morning sun gets you up, your out of luck. Part of the charm I guess! Ilse and staff surprised us with a room decorated for our 30th Anniversary! It was very special. It was so nice to lay in bed in the mornings and hear the wildlife, monkeys included! Staff are cleaning the grounds and pool daily - it is a beautiful atmosphere especially around the pool. There are only 8 casitas so the pool area did not feel crowded. A beachfront lounger can be reserved at the Ocho Beach Club included in ones stay. An Ocho Beach Club day pass does allow off site patrons a lounger by the beach and access to the pool, which we were unaware of until 5 loud young men came off the beach, lol. But that was only once - something to be aware of. Thank-you Ilse for a wonderful stay!

Food in the restaurant was very good, but very expensive. Other than breakfast, we ate all our meals elsewhere.
- Diana (10/5): Wundervoll… - Das Ocho ist wunderschön angelegt und eine wahre Oase inmitten des Trubels…es fühlt sich an wie nach Hause zu kommen. Das Personal ist der Wahnsinn. Jeder war unheimlich bemüht und so freundlich. Insbesondere Ilse wäre für uns der Grund jederzeit wieder zu buchen. Sie hat es uns mit ihrer unglaublich lieben und aufmerksamen Art so angenehm gemacht- vielen lieben Dank dafür…als Fremde kommen und als Freunde gehen… Das Frühstück ist zwar wirklich phänomenal, allerdings wäre es schön, wenn man mehr als ein Getränk zum Frühstück dazu bekäme.

- Lars (9/5): Jungelfeeling mit Abstrichen - Anlage besteht nur aus wenigen Bungalows, die alle im Jungel eingebettet sind(besser geht es nicht)Das macht den Flair aus. Die Bungalows haben eine super größe und sind sehr gut ausgestattet. Haben immer uns das Frühstück auf die Terrasse des Bungalows bringen lassen und auch abends dort eine Vorspeise eingenommen. Das Frühstück, was nur aus einer Eierspeise und einem Getränk(Kaffe oder O Saft)bestand haben wir, da wir einen großen Kühlschrank und eine Herdplatte hatten, um weitere Dinge wie Joghurt, Käse, Marmelade und zusätzlichen Kaffee, für uns aufgewertet. Man konnte regelmäßig Nasenbären von der Terrasse beobachten. Der Anlage ist ein Beachclub angeschlossen. Liegen konnte man kostenlos reservieren. Von den Liegen konnte man traumhafte Sonnenuntergänge beobachten. Das Personal und die Lage der Anlage, wenige Schritte zum Zentrum, top. Hatten leider in unseren 4 Nächten 4 ?Kakerlaken auf dem Zimmer. Die Bungalows konnte man nicht richtig verdunkeln und es war teilweise durch angrenzende Hotelanlagen, die bis spät in die Nacht live Musik hatten, sehr laut. Ab dem frühen Morgen gab es Geräusch von der Hauptstraße. Es gab in jedem Bungalow zwar Schlafmasken und Ohrstöpsel aber....Ich schwimmer gerne täglich ein paar Runden im Pool. Dieser ist dafür allerdings nicht geeignet da,der Pool sehr klein ist und eine maximale Tiefe von ca.70cm hat, schade.

The place was clean, in a great location, and had everything we needed for our stay - Proximity to the beach was fantastic, as close as you can get. The pool was great and well maintained, and it was a good size for the number of guests. On booking.com, it said that payment wasn’t required until arrival; however, after booking through booking.com we received a message from the property saying we had to pay 75% of the stay within 48 hours or our booking would be cancelled. This should have been clearly outlined in the booking description. Upon arrival, we needed to pay the remaining 25% and we were told we could not pay in USD by card and instead had to pay in CRC where they used a conversion rate that did not match published conversions for the day we arrived and resulted in about 10% higher cost than expected.
- U4881HKps (10/5): ILSE and SUE make Ocho an All Star Resort - ILSE Weiss, SUE, and all of the staff at Ocho Artisan Bungalows really laid out the red carpet for us! Ocho is most certainly an ALL-Star resort in all ways, thanks to them! Ocho was our favorite place we stayed in all of Costa Rica. The young pool boy made sure the pool was deliciously clean and refreshing, the service was impeccable, the room and the AC was nothing short of fantastic, and the staff, the food, the ocean water and the beachclub was a 5 star experience. We must also make note of the staff at the beach club. They were all amazing, friendly, and wanted to ensure our experience was nothing short of excellent. The food and drinks were super good! And as a bonus, it's an easy walk into town. We really cannot say anything negative about this place, and my wife and I would return to Ocho in a heartbeat. Thank you ILSE and SUE for making our stay the dream we had envisioned when making the reservation. Pura Vida!

- Diane (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at Ocho Artisan Bungalows. The property is gorgeous and the bungalows are beautiful and private. The beach is just steps away and the pool is a quiet oasis with a wonderful view of the ocean. What really makes this boutique hotel exceptional, though, is the warm and friendly team at Ochos. Ilse is an exceptional concierge, who took great care to ensure our stay exceeded expectations. From arranging day trips and excursions Ilse and Sue went out of their way to assist with your stay. The friendly restaurant/bar staff greeted us with warm smiles and by name. Special shout out to Daniel, Kenya, Giovanni and Jimmy.
- Andres (9/5): A great location comes with a price. - Garden, where the bungalows are, is beautiful. Bungalows are spacious and very comfortable. Access to the beach. Staff were great. Sunsets in front of the hotel’s beach are breathtaking. Entrance to the hotel is very ugly. Our bungalow was a bit noisy because there is a street in the back and we could hear the cars passing by. Quite expensive.

- Doreen (10/5): The perfect spot to rest and restore! - The location is amazing, right on the beach. The water was wonderfully refreshing warm. The staff were friendly and helpful. Else and Sue Ellen were great hosts and all of the bartenders and servers made sure to know our names. The bungalows are beautiful, clean and private. We highly recommend Ocho Artisan for anyone traveling to Costa Rica. Also, the town is a quick walk and you can explore and shop. Bonus wildlife visits while on the beach. The town could get crowded, it is a tourist town. Otherwise, nothing else. We really loved the resort and the privacy of the bungalows and the proximity to the beach.

- Richard (9/5): Luxury bungalows right on Tamarindo beach - Loved that it was right on the beach. Individual bungalows mean quiet neighbors. All the staff were great but especially Ilse and Sue were super attentive, checked in with us every day to make sure we were having a wonderful time. We arrived late the first night and wished the restaurant stayed open longer.

The small community offered a surprising number of excellent restaurant choices and was very walkable. I would have enjoyed more opportunity to hike or just to walk through the forests in the vicinity of the town.

- 867virginiap (10/5): Lovely Stay in Tamarindo - We loved our stay at Ocho. If you are going to Tamarindo, the location cannot be beat. Right at the edge of town and right on the beach, but when you're in your bungalow, you feel like you're in the middle of the rain forest. I would call the vibe of the place bohemian funky. Only 8 bungalows so none of your typical resort amenities, which suited us just fine. Ilse, the concierge, checked on us multiple times daily and saw to our every need. The rest of the staff were also incredibly friendly and accommodating. We were in a jungle bungalow and loved it. Very spacious and just plain charming. The pool is lovely, and we spent long chunks of each day on the shaded day beds around it. Soaking in the warm water after dinner and just listening to the ocean can't be beat. The beach club is lovely, and Ilse will reserve chairs for you on the beach. We thought the food at the beach club was some of the best we had in Costa Rica -- OMG the tuna tacos. One caveat -- unless you really love loud techno music, do not eat there on the weekends. We arrived on a Sunday evening and had to go elsewhere for dinner because we could not stand the music. By Tuesday night, the music was either totally fine or non-existent, and the dining experience was superb. We had read reviews complaining about the noise and were concerned about this going in. As it turned out, we could hear no music in our bungalow and had no noise issues at all. In short, we had a wonderful stay and would love to return.

The gardens were beautifully maintained and the service provided by all the staff and particularly Ilse the concierge was excellent. The water was hot but the shower pressure was terrible. We got used to it but if there was any way to improve the pressure that would definitely be a plus.

Ocho is a beachfront boutique hotel in the best way—offering a personal touch for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in a stunning, laid-back setting. We had the pleasure of staying in the 2-bedroom beachfront villa, which offered gorgeous beach views and was just steps from the beach club. The entire staff was absolutely fantastic and made our experience unforgettable. They are all so warm, friendly, and attentive! Throughout our stay, they took the time to get to know us, which made our stay so much better. A big thank you to Ilse for her thoughtfulness as we celebrated our anniversary and for always being so helpful with her insights. Having the beach club right at the hotel was fantastic. As guests, we appreciated the great food and drinks, and the way they ensured everyone had a chair available throughout our stay. We loved the relaxed vibe, complemented by the lively weekend DJ. Since our villa was close to the beach club, we never found the music too loud; it was just nice background music. Finally, the location was perfect for us—at the quieter end of a busy town, just a few-minute walk to great restaurants, yet never feeling overwhelmed or crowded. We will definitely be returning.

Not for those wanting absolute quiet; perfect to enjoy beach fun, sunset gatherings, and the energy of Tamarindo. Artfully designed. I loved the pool and used it everyday . Recommend not using this as a stopover but stay a few days . Both bungalows and houses available.

- Sightsee38209213715 (2/5): Theft at this place - If I could give this place zero stars, I would. After booking a week at Ocho Artisan Bungalows, and planning what was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime, we traveled all day and arrived there at about 6 PM on Dec. 20, 2025 We did a little unpacking and decided we needed to get something to eat. We left the resort and were gone about 20 minutes. We had packed our ring security camera and set it up before leaving our room. It was directed solely on the room safe. We were gone approximately 20 minutes and were at the resort less than one hour when the security camera sent us a notice that someone was in our room. We were only about two blocks away, so I went running back trying to catch whoever was in our room but was too late. The front door was locked and there were no signs of forced entry. Obviously the employee had a key. After reviewing the recorded video, in which the thief looked directly at the camera, with the property manager Ilse, she called the police and the intruder was caught with the money. He was/is an employee. Upon our arrival we were given a key to the safe and were told that the electronics didnt work, but that is obviously not the case, as the thief punched in a code to open it. He didn’t steal all of our money, (Approx$300) ,hoping that we didn’t notice. Obviously, we could not stay there having been completely violated. We made arrangements to move to another resort where we spent the week. It took us about four hours the next morning to get a refund. And it wasn’t a full refund. They kept $350 and blamed it on PayPal. We did spend one night there because it was late by the time everything got done and settled, and there was nowhere to go that night. They did give us a free dinner and a free breakfast, however the process to get a refund was argumentative and tiresome. We feel that based on the circumstances, they should have refunded all of our money. No doubt the owner will respond and say they did everything they could and that they did fire the guy supposedly. However he has worked there three (3) years, so I am sure this is not the first time this has happened hoping that people don’t realize that they’re taking small amounts of money here and there from your safe. He did have some of the money on him when apprehended and we did get some of the money back. BE VERY CAREFUL if you choose to stay here. There is an ATM right across the street and I would suggest taking out small amounts of money every day in lieu of putting anything in the safe. We were deterred from prosecuting him because we would’ve had to spend a full day in Santa Cruz (one hour hour away) leaving the following morning at 6:00am as we were told the only only appointment available with the prosecutor would’ve been at 8 o’clock on Sunday morning. We feel this was a complete lie. So while we were told he spent the night in jail, he will end up going free, as we didn’t want to spend our first day dealing with this on vacation. The whole process was quite traumatic to start our vacation.

The grounds were manicured perfectly and the plants/trees were so green and stunning. Each bungalow had such a beautiful, unique decor. Had very much a “zen” appeal for meditation and relaxing. The restaurant is on the beach, literally with your toes in the sand and then the lounge chairs and couches were close by as well giving you the best front row view of the stunning waters and sunsets! On top of it all, the staff was extremely accommodating and attentive, Making sure every need was met. They certainly went above and beyond. Ilse is the concierge and customer service representative and I can’t say enough about her genuine care of her guests. Pricilla helped with our accommodations and helped us get checked in and out seamlessly making our experience unforgettable. The restaurant staff also went above and beyond serving excellent drinks and food. 10 out of 10 experience for my husband and I. Can’t wait to plan another trip!! Pura Vida!

I highly recommend the 2 bedroom bungalow as it is right on the beach. You can sit on the deck and listen to the waves. The service here is the best! Every morning Lordis greeted us with a smile to start our day. Priscilla and Zulu made sure we had everything we needed and would respond almost immediately to anything we needed. Gio at the restaurant went above and beyond. He even went to get us pizza when it was raining. Thank you again Gio! Thank you to all of you for helping us have so much fun!

The staff are very nice and friendly but are not very knowledgeable on tours as someone external is planning these things for guests rather than the staff in site. We were not highly impressed by a request via PayPal for deposit on tours or constant barraging of strange numbers messaging me. It is highly unprofessional of a property to message guests to send money to them via PayPal . The price of accommodation does not reflect the property at all. It is not worth what you pay for. It is essentially a 3 star. Breakfast options don’t have açaí bowls, which is what people want in that type of weather. The pool is nice but we saw a guest smoking marijuana near the pool. This is more of a hostel vibe rather than a 4 star accommodation. At no point should an accommodation allow a guest to smoke cannabis. For 200-250£ a night, guardian uk recommended it , I don’t believe it to be worth this

It was by far the best spot on the beach and I loved the manager's dj play lists and even shazamed them so I could save them! Very chill vibe on the beach and really a perfect location there and then literally a 3 min walk to town. There was also a very cool food truck park right behind and I wish we wouldve ate there more! The bungalows are fantastic with so much charm and rich CR wood. We just loved everything about it. The staff was fantastic... Gio was by far our fav and even saw us out one night. He was so fun and attentive. There was a lady behind the bar that was very bubbly and friendly and another waitress (curly hair) that was so sweet. The food was fantastic, the pool was under utilized by us and everyone really but was very nice and peacefull. the front desk ladies always had good suggestions and were very friendly as well. I would highly recommend staying here and can't wait to come back.

The room was exactly how it looked, the beachfront restaurant was great , beach access was perfect. Really near to town. What makes this place really special is there are only 7 bungalows and the staff are so attentive to everything. The breakfast was great with lots of choice. Nice relaxed atmosphere. The staff were second to none... everyone one of them. I would 100% recommend. You have to remember this is Costa Rica not San Diego - life runs differently, it rains... be flexible..!!

- AB (10/5): Love this place, charming and personal. Luxury in the jungle by the beach. - We stayed at the hotel for two weeks, longer then most I think. The bungalows are wonderful and the place with the restaurant / bar by the beach is so nice. It is hip, it is alive, it is cool, it is groovy. This is the obvious place to go if you want to take a sun-downer and realax with a good drink and some nice music. Every now and then the manager himself was standing in the DJ both. The staff is so friendly and professional and always have time for a chat and they can help you with anything. We had time to walk the whole beach a couple of times, checking in other places, and I dare say, this is the best place by far. At morning when you sit down by the beach to order your breakfast, the birds sing in the trees above you and later in the day when you lie on the beautiful sun beds you have a good chance to see the local crocodile (!!) come out from the creek to enjoy the sun. Just dont go to close, he is big. Food is good, dinks are good, music is good, staff is good. This is the place. Hard to find anything negative. You have to be prepared for what it is. This is not a polished hotel with marble floors. This is bungalows (really beautiful) in a nature setting. This means you get monkeys at night playing on the roof, they can be loud. You get racoons running around, but they dont bother you. This is Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

- tomkD1756SW (2/5): DO NOT BOOK - Save Yourself - I stayed here with my wife for one night. We booked 4 nights in the “Luxury Ocean And Pool Front Bungalow”. Upon arrival our room didn’t have a strong odor, but the HVAC system hadn’t been running very long. We could tell because the room wasn’t very cool yet. As the room cooled down, the odor got stronger and stronger. It smelled like a skunk. It was unbearable and the staff confirmed the smell when they came to check. We asked the staff to help fix this on the first night and they said the smell was coming from outside and they would work to resolve it. They also brought incense and candles into the room to mask the smell. The next morning the smell was just as strong as the night before, if not stronger. I went to look behind the unit and saw some plants and a walkway. There was no noticeable smell outside of the unit. When we spoke to a friend who works with HVAC systems, he told us to vacate immediately, as the skunk smell is an additive for gas and refrigerant so that leaks would be noticeable. He said it could be unsafe to stay in the room. We packed our bags and contacted the hotel staff. They told us that we were smelling sewage lines and that they would reroute the lines, but the smell was clearly not sewage. They offered to give us our first night for free. They were told this by the owner who was “traveling in Europe” and hard to contact for them. The staff were apologetic and gracious, but following the orders of the owner. We are still waiting to get our refund for the stay, and will be submitting a request to American Express for the charge to be cancelled due to an unsafe environment. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. It is clearly not well maintained. The exterior and interior of the unit looked nice, but the faucets, shower head, toilet, and other fixtures were clearly very cheaply installed. The faucets would lift from the sink fixtures when the water was being turned on because they were not secured in any way, similar to the shower fixture.

Several bungalow-looking "rooms" are on the premises, with a small pool area and restaurant. The hotel also has soft beach sofas and chairs. The vibe is incredibly peaceful and zen. The grounds are full of lush greenery and beautiful Buddha statues, making it the perfect place for relaxation. The bungalows have a unique, bohemian style with natural materials. I loved the small, pool area and the feeling of being in a "jungle on the beach." It’s a truly tranquil and beautiful escape. While the staff were very friendly, it was clear some significant issues were not a priority for management. We dealt with a leaking roof during heavy rains and persistent pest problems like ants and giant cockroaches. These issues were acknowledged with a smile but never resolved, perhaps as part of the "real Costa Rican experience."

A heartfelt thank you to Priscilla and Zula for always being attentive to our needs, and to the entire team for their constant smiles and warm hospitality. We can’t wait to come back! Clearly, being surrounded by nature, there were inevitably some mosquitoes bothering us at night.

The location is close to everything and the beach club set-up is the best in the area with nice beach lounges and umbrellas. The wait staff were friendly and very accommodating for bar/food services on the beach. There is a nice peaceful dipping pool for guests that is practically on the beach and a bonus. There is even a resident crocodile (Coco) who visits the banks of the river outside that was fun to watch. They welcomed us with a drink upon arrival and helped us plan a fun boating activity. The only negative here is the level of noise from the Ocho Beach Club, that went from noon to 9pm daily. The noise carried to our villa, and was difficult to escape. We ended up eating at other restaurants outside of the property that had a quieter atmosphere for dinners. Would advise to consider the atmosphere and level of noise you are looking for prior to booking here. Without the noise issue would rate it a 5 star.

- Alissa (2/5): Very poor - The pool was nice. The Ocho website depicts the hotel as being romantic, relaxing, and in nature but that is not the reality. We booked this for 4 nights and only stayed 1 night, just to get out of this environment and town. Upon arriving and drinking our welcome drink at the Ocho beach club, we were immediately approached by multiple beach vendors trying to sell us coke and weed, which was really off-putting and harassing. We had been on the property only 5 minutes and were already having to fend off sellers. We also later saw a guy overdosing on the sidewalk down the street. The entire town and the beach seems really sketchy. The hotel is right off the road so you can hear cars and traffic and bars all night, and there was continuous bass music in the background. The room itself smells like weed, the decor is weird, and cleanliness is questionable. There are no doors to the bathroom, just a sheer sheet curtain so you'll want to make sure you are extremely comfortable with the person you are staying with. The bathroom has open air screens, so the room does not stay well air conditioned. The three-sided bungalow windows look cool in photos, but in reality you will want to close the curtains so that people walking by don’t see inside, as it is very easy to see inside the bungalows and there are walkways around them. It is not private. The beach is only accessible through the beach club entry-way, as there is a stagnant body of water with a crocodile in it in front of the rest of the property. Overall, just a total disappointment and maybe I had too high of expectations, but the photos on the website make it look way nicer than it actually is. If you are looking for a rustic-vibe party place with easy access to drugs, this may be the place for you. If you are looking for peace, nature, privacy, or quiet, this will not be the place for you. And if you want a true representation of Costa Rica, go somewhere other than Tamarindo.

The bartenders, wait staff, chef, concierge and cleaning staff did absolutely everything possible to make our stay so wonderful. Our room was like something out of a dream. Private and yet social when we wanted. Location was best location. Short walk to all the shops and restaurants. 100/10. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fabulous vacation. Thank you Zula, Prescilla,Jimmy, Lourdes,Gio,Pablo for making our stay so memorable.

Bungalows are tucked back in gorgeous greenery, quiet and private, even though the resort itself is just seconds from lots of shopping and restaurants. On site beach restaurant and beach bar with attentive servers. They even knew our names by the end of the first day! Gio was particularly awesome! Front desk personnel was very helpful in whatever we needed (Zulay and Priscilla). Keep your bathroom door closed! Open air bathrooms are so cool, but LOTS of mosquitos! Housekeeping left our bathroom door open one day and we had to sleep with our heads under the covers to keep from being eaten alive.
