Guest Reviews
- Tanya (9/5): Amazing spot on the river - We stayed for three nights in a renovated room at the back of the property. It was lovely, comfortable, and clean, with the air conditioning working well and a large window that let in plenty of light.
Our tour guide was with us throughout the stay and was fantastic—very informative and helpful, and the main staff member we interacted with. The boat drivers were also great, especially at spotting wildlife.
All the lodge activities were well organised and enjoyable. If you’re visiting, it’s best to bring long sleeves and long pants (avoid black), along with plenty of insect repellent to keep the mozzies away, especially when walking through the jungle. Filtered water is available, so you can easily refill your bottles. The food was disappointing, with plenty of room for improvement. Unfortunately, the staff were not very engaging and didn’t interact much during our stay
- Daniel (10/5): Great all inclusive stay on the river seeing some of the most unique wildlife in the world - Super clean and great location
- Lee (10/5): -
- julian (10/5): Wonderful - Everything was excellent and really well organised from start to finish. Very friendly staff and guides . Superb food using quality ingredients (if you are looking for traditional Sabah food you will be disappointed but what they did serve was plentiful and tasty). Free tea and coffee and filtered water available all day Nothing
- Winfried (9/5): -
- Dorota (10/5): Amazing - So close to the Nature! Love it! You can see will animals from your window and this is amazing! The staff is very kind and friendly, rooms are really clean. Everything was good
- Yuyao (10/5): -
- Melissa (9/5): Great budget jungle stay - Great location and good for the river wildlife The food was plentiful but very Chinese and oily
- EMI (10/5): -
- Elisa (7/5): Nice jungle adventure - Everything was super well organized - you didn’t have to worry about a thing. They picked us up from the airport, you get buss ride and short boat trip to the lodge. 2 rivercruises a day and jungle treck/night walk. 3 meals a day. Staff was very friendly and our guide Akmal was very nice. We saw good amount of animals on the river cruises, sadly no elephants though (bad time of year for spotting them, because they move to another areas). Highlight of my stay was seeing the slow loris on the night walk. We were 2 days and 1 night and that felt enough. Rooms were very outdated, and could use some renovations. Some rooms were already renowated, we stayed in the older rooms. Room had a lot of ants, and they were climbing in our luggage. And also on the spare bed, fortunately neither of us had to sleep there. I understand that you can’t get rid of all bugs in the jungle, but I guess something could be done to the ants.
Other thing was, that we didn’t have our own raincosts. Some could argue, that it’s our problem that we didn’t take them. We just forgot. They didn’t have any raincoats or ponchos to loan/rent or buy. It was very weird, it felt like going in to a bath house or something and they wouldn’t have towels. There will be always people who don’t have them. So they could easily make money by selling them there. There is everyday new people coming in on the bus from the city, it just feels like an big excuse to say ”we don’t have them”, when they have everything else for rent such as boots, headlamps, binoculars etc. But in the end of the day we got really lucky considering the weather and only one cruise it was raining and other activities it was not so we didn’t get wet.
- Samantha (8/5): - We had a great stay. We were in one of the newer rooms which was nice and bed was really comfortable. We did the river safaris which were great and even saw an orangutan in the wild which was amazing ! Transfers and everything well organised, thank you WiFi isnt included and you have to pay for a new code each time - also only works in the dining area, not rooms. Food was a bit disappointing for me but is personal preference. Lots of mosquitos in the dining area too which can't be helped but would advise lots of insect repellant and long sleeves
- Lisette (10/5): Underbart äventyr i Borneos regnskog. - Otroligt trevlig och hjälpsam personal, särskilt vår fina guide Fazly. Vi fick se alla djur i the big 5.
Fina och bekväma rum med AC. Mycket god mat.

- Regula (7/5): -
- Masseur6 (8/5): - Toller Gastgeber tolles Personal ,Die lLae ist einmalig man muss aber sportlich sein um dorthin zu kommen Alles gut
- Wilmas2 (9/5): Peaceful, used it as time out from internet, the river sunsets, great food. - Had a new room at end of boardwalk. A fridge would be a welcome addition but may be due to electrical constraints. Even though the river was flooded at my arrival, the staff went all out to make sure every assistance was given (eg, getting in and out of boat). Great to listen to the monkey arguments in the trees outside room. Also monkeys generally stayed out of the lodge accomodation. The road there, but what can they do?
- Zeke (9/5): Better than this survey - Great staff great fun great food just watch out for the monkeys Staff food and animals on the safari cruises
- Rodrigo (7/5): Good -
- Tatjana (3/5): Lodge nicht zu empfehlen - Tours were good. The cabin also ok. The food is the cheapest of the cheapest. At five meals (early, noon, evening) only watermelon each time. The food always cold. Partly quickly gone (buffet) and no replenishment. … not that I expect a top menu in the jungle, but cheeky in my eyes at the price. The worst thing was that the employees in the common area (only hard wooden chairs) were constantly playing videos loudly on their mobile phones. A natural enjoyment is therefore not possible.
- Steve (9/5): Bilit - You Kill It! (In the best way) - Tours -saw elephants twice, 4 of 8 species of hornbill, and numerous others. Staff was wonderful.
Robert, our guide, is exceptional for animals, culture, and history.
Unfortunately, flooding limited the ground walks, but we did batiks instead. They need more types of t-shirts in souvenir shop. The villagers created the batiks. They could easily design great ts.
Also, website needs to be updated. The gallery uses flash, and doesn't work.
These are suggestions, not critiques.
- Bob (10/5): Exceptional - I would give more than five stars for service if I could. Due to the recent floods in East Malaysia, we had to return from the river lodge to Sepilok. Tiffany was amazing in sorting out and organising everything. They put us up at Sepilok Jungle Resort and sorted out various tours and activities for us in place of what we would have had at BAL. Their food was top notch, the rooms were spacious and comfortable with Air Con and the staff were all super friendly. We also managed to see some incredible wildlife before we had to leave. Thank you to the staff, and Tiffany, for all they did. N/A
- Phil (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (8/5): Rustic river lodge and wildlife galore - Our guide and boat driver were excellent tour operators. We saw plenty of wildlife including elephants, orang-utan and hornbills. Great experience and we loved the lodge's rustic nature and the river location.
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Vicky (8/5): Fantastic, but a little pricey - The staff are all really friendly and the guides who lead the boat trips and treks are very knowledgeable. Halim, especially, was fantastic - we were always pleased when he was in our boat! The boat trips were really good and we saw lots of different wildlife. The great thing was the trips didn't feel rushed - because they're run by Bilit, there was no rush to get back if there was something interesting to stop and see. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable with good working air con. The food - breakfast, lunch, and dinner - was all good. Decent variety at the buffets and plenty to eat! The banana fritters for afternoon tea were also a nice little treat. The social aspect and opportunity to meet new people, because you get seated with your boat mates for meals. Even factoring in the trips and meals, the rooms are very basic for the price you pay. The bathroom needs updating, and a fridge is needed because the only drinking water available for free is warm. Again, for the price, paying for limited and slow (often unusable) WiFi is a little unreasonable, as is having to pay to hire wellies.
- Obasanmi (8/5): comfortable rooms in the jungle and very helpful staff - good rooms with ac and fan and hot water . clean and comfortable. good food and helpful staff.
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (8/5): 2 nights/1 full day was just enough time. Jay our river guide/boat driver was brilliant, so knowledable and frie - Air con, boardwalk, abundant food (too much!), view of river from restaurant, friendly staff, abundant wildlife and proximity to jungle Pillows were terrible.
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Dariusz (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our 2 nights and 3 days stay at Bilit Adventure Lodge. We had a great time and total disconnect from rest of the world like no social medias, no internet, no tvs…however it’s possible you can purchase 1G at lodge but we didn’t by purpose since we had such a jungle, remote and nature experience. So sad coming back to civilization after 3 days…Anyways, we would love to shout out to our guide ROBERT who did our trip to Kinabatangan so special and memorable. He was so professional, knowledgeable of wild life, life encoglephia, birds, spotting and caring person that we already so much respect to him and appreciate more than a lot. Thank you so much Robert for your kindness and caring for us those days since we met at airport and drop off airport. Now little bit our experience at lodge, we had 1st day boat trip through river, got spotted many birds, crocodiles, monitors and etc…then night jungle walking is great experience also. Next morning boat trip was so emotional that we’ve seen Sunrise, many more wild life’s including proboscis monkeys ets…then next evening boat trip…just wonderful. What a day…we spotted 7 elephants along with many birds species and crocodile etc. How thankful for this trip…just amazing…even just around walking lodge already we have a lots of monkeys, birds and giants butterflies…and at last we would like to say Thank you to all the stuffs at Bilit Lodge and specially for our guide Robert!!!
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bosi (5/5): Passable -
- Aly (10/5): Amazing experience - This is such an amazing place. The location is amazing surrounded by the jungle and the river. The staff was extremely thoughtful. Their coffee was good. The food was probably the best I have had during my whole Borneo trip. The cruises are great. Saw many wildlife including a wild Orangutan.. So amazing to be there. It has a cosy and homely vibe to it. I would definitely come back if I get the chance. That I only stayed 2 days 1 night.. should have stayed a bit longer
- Jane (8/5): Very enjoyable with a good range of activities and our guide (Ray) looked after us very well. - Breakfast was ok, although it would have been nice to have some herbal tea bags (eg. Peppermint) and decaffeinated coffee provided for those of us who can’t have caffeine. Ray (our guide) knew lots about jungle animals and plants, and spoke English well, which was great. A lot of the food was very oily, so some steamed options would have been good if possible.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Joanne (9/5): Excellent - Highly Recommended - This was a package with trips on the River, jungle hiking and other activities, meals included and it was the best part of our trip to the Borneo Jungle. I highly recommend a stay here if you're interested in Borneo Wildlife. We saw, Pygmy Elephants, Orangutans, Proboscios Monkeys, Macaques, Hornbills, Crocodiles and lots more. We had a wonderful guide Leo and his boatman Nelson was just the best guy. The food provided was excellent quality, nice variety but sometimes there wasn't enough. The accomodation was comfortable, had a good bed and shower and good working air conditioning. I would highly recommend a stay at Bilit for a trip to Borneo. I did not like the hygiene factor for my feet of having to remove my shoes for the dining room. Fruit at mealtimes was sparse which I can't understand in a land of fruit! And no bananas which was surprising.
- Shrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alberto (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (9/5): Superb - Lovely rooms, loved the jungle vibe.
Great staff and great food.
Gorgeous setting Nothing
- Savage (10/5): Awesome jungle adventure at Bilit! - The place, activities and guides were phenomenal. Staff were beautiful. Shout out to Robert who was so helpful and amazing, knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend Bilit for your jungle adventure! Food was just ok, plenty of it though. Probably similar everywhere. Coffee and tea available all the time, which was great.
- Gemma (9/5): Beautiful and relaxing - - Range of foods available in the buffet section
- Transfer bus from Sandakan which was helpful
- The guide (Mason) was really informative, comical and helpful
- Beautiful and calm area. It's well taken care of. - When wanting to join the resorts wifi, was informed that there would be an extra charge
- Had to pay for wellington boots and leech socks to join the afternoon and the evening walk. I did feel that I already paid a significant amount of money to stay there, and therefore the cost should have been included
- Elham (7/5): The boat cruises and location are wonderful. -
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - The room includes the tour which was amazing. We saw so much wildlife including orangutans, civet cat and a slow loris!! The lodge is so peaceful, just in the jungle with boardwalks around. Very comfortable and clean room. Buffet style food, they made us separate meals as we are both vegan, so they cater for everyone. One day we were the only people at the lodge so it was so nice and quiet. The night walk is good but we had a large group which made it hard to see things if you are at the back, you can hire wellies and leech socks.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic tour package - food was delicious, accommodation is very comfortable, very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide and staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Accueil et organisation parfaite.je recommande vivement ce très bel endroit
- Maria (10/5): Muy recomendable - Alojamiento increible. Te organizan las actividades perfectamente. El paseo por el río es lo mejor y el paseo nocturno merece la pena. El personal es muy amable y servicial. La limpieza es muy buena y el hotel cuenta con todo lo necesario. Recomiendo coger una noche
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice 3D2n Experience - Fantastic guides. Very knowledgeable and good at spotting wildlife. Aswad (one of the guides) is very personable and helpful. The river cruises were nice, but the jungle trek behind the property weren't as fruitful as I'd hoped. Food was good and never lacking for portion size.
- Verified traveler (8/5): great stay in the jungle - great time. saw heaps of wildlife with the great staff who took us. l. ike all other reviews, it is excellent for where you are. We so lucky with only two other guests during our stay.
