- Patrick (6/5): - Quiet bungalows facing the savannah. Shaded walkways The second pool is very serene. Breakfast buffet was enjoyable. Nice mattress. I was expecting a dam with wild animals enjoying the water point, only to discover a muddy construction site with heavy machinery. One pool was under maintenance, inaccessible. Menu is overrated, I wouldn't pick it if not on full board. Yet the à la carte menu options are quite limited. Clerical errors, in the client's disfavour, are always annoying. Not a matter of money, but principle. Noisy mettalic beds shouldn't be the standard in a lodge. I understand monkeys can be an annoyance, yet I am not very comfortable with staff using slingshots to chase them away, certainly not in a national park.

Le directeur m’a expliqué qu’il y avait eu une erreur avec la centrale de réservation. En discutant avec certains membres du staff, j’ai appris que les 2 tentes avaient été attribuées à des voyageurs présents la veille qui voulaient prolonger d’une nuit! Et ce genre de problèmes est récurant selon les dires du personnel
- Imogen (8/5): I would definitely recommend this hotel. - Excellent staff and atmosphere; garden beautifully kept and excellent safari guide. Altogether charming place to stay. They catered very well for lots of people coming and going. The only drawback was paying the bill which was a slow process and we had not been told that a minimum of four people is necessary for a safari which caused resentment. The swimming pool is a bit small but adequate.

- Sara (8/5): Entspannt mit super Location mitten im Tsavo East National Park - Wir hatten ein Zelt gebucht und diese Erfahrung war toll. Das Zelt selbst ist gut ausgestattet und sehr schön. Das Essen (Büffet) war gut und das Personal sehr zuvorkommend und engagiert. Dafür das wir einen eher höheren Aufpreis für das Zelt bezahlt haben, hätten diese eine „bessere“ Aussicht bzw. Lage haben können. Einige Zimmer schauen direkt auf die Wasserstelle, das würde man eher von den teureren Zimmern/ Zelten erwarten. Der Pool ist sehr heruntergekommen und nicht sehr ansprechend (grünliches Wasser, Leiter fällt fast ab, Lamellen grün und alle kaputt).

In the morning I have had some monkeys trying to visit it) With open blinds the tent is a kind of the watch point for the wildlife around it. Great dinner and breakfast - not to mention the location of the restaurant. They do not pay attention the reservation. The reservation was done for a big King/Queen size bed and was confirmed before check in. But the management decided to ignore it and gave this reservation to solo traveler arrived an hour earlier. So I spent a night on two beds pushed together with a gap between them

Das Buffet war reichhaltig und gut. Der Hauptpool war diesmal nicht so sauber. Aber da das Wetter ohnehin etwas kühler war gingen wir eh nicht ins Schwimmbad.

- Jeneby (4/5): Very Dated - Not Good Value for Money - Visited Ashnil as part of a longer trip. The other Lodges have excellent dinner and lunch meals and service. Here, we were told on arrival that each sitting would cost us a small fortune for what turned out to be very mediocre meals. You are in the middle of nowhere, so paying for these meals left a bitter taste in the mouth for a one-night stay. Service was inferior, period. The bathrooms are horrible - see photos. Marketing material must be from another time/ age when there was a decent hotel and service in this spot.

The kids were absolutely enchanted by - - in the heart of tsavo east - colorful lizards and monkeys in the gardens - pool with elephants walking behind the fence - bug swarms in the evening and night - lose mosquito nets not really protecting - no air conditioning just fans - dinner/lunch bit pricey considering the selection

- Bruce (4/5): Expensive and disappointing - The location was the best part about staying at this lodge. You are at a central location in the national park to go on the various game drive routes. We also had two fans in our room which was a huge help dealing with the high temperatures at this time of the year. The shower in the bathroom was very nice and the beds were comfortable. We were allowed to access the breakfast buffet earlier than the posted hours to accommodate our early departure from the property. There was a lot that we did not to like about the property. To start with we did not find the staff very friendly in general which was a big difference from a similar resort in a national park where we stayed the night before. The only food available was the buffet which was limited in selections and was of average quality. I would compare the buffet to many of the two and three star hotels I have stayed at in Kenya over the last seven years. The biggest difference is at this resort they did not have a menu you could order off of if you did not want the full buffet menu. During check-in we were not told by the reception staff of the coffee and tea service with cookies and cake that was set-up daily at 3:30 outside the bar area. We checked in around 2:30 (after the buffet had officially closed) and only saw this service mentioned in the guide for the resort in our room. There were literally thousands of crickets all across the resort property to include on the buffet line (the staff draped the buffet line with mosquito type netting to keep the crickets off the food) and in the dining room. It seems this is an annual occurrence so I would have thought there would be some better solution to keep the crickets away/out of the dining area. WiFi is only available in the dining room and bar area of the hotel and it is a very poor quality connection. This was a pretty major inconvenience since the bar area is quite small and you are only allowed to be in dining room at meal times. Again for a "four-star" resort this low level of Wi-Fi service seems to be inconsistent with other hotels in Kenya where we have travelled.
- Fiona (8/5): Great experience in the bush! - Great location in Tsavo East. Our tent was really comfortable and had views over the park. Quiet spot. Swimming pool was great for a cooling dip and lounge area relaxing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our game drives with Tony were amazing. Breakfast was good. Although the buffet food was OK there could have been more variety. At lunch there were lots of flies around (not their fault). We felt they could have provided better cover than cling film - just a suggestion!

- Abdulla (5/5): Ashnil stay - Food was good Food safety was poor.there was ants flying on food and in th juice and just need a better covering for food.there was no wifi in the rooms and was only available at bar and dining area.in current times wifi is a necessity and was stated while booking that its available through out the property which didnt go well when we didnt have it in the bedroom.they need to get wifi extenders and provide this.the viev from room was good.

The dam, close to which the lodge was established, is no longer there. The new waterhole that has been created did not attract much wildlife.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome, our tent was immaculately clean, cool and comfortable with excellent bathroom and storage, a comfortable bed and a view beyond all expectations. The full board option was far beyond what we had expected for the price, so many delicious options to choose from for each meal. The location and site in the heart of Tsavo East are indescribable, the views are wonderful and the pool is a lovely surprise addition - we even watched elephants, zebra and gazelle while we were in the pool! The staff at the lodge are such a delight, every single member of the team was so kind and friendly as well as being very professional. Their service and dedication really made us feel welcome and well looked after for the whole of our stay. Thank you so much for the perfect safari stay, we loved every minute. Only that we had to leave!

- Divya (9/5): Perfect location, wonderful staff, comfortable rooms. - Location is perfect for seeing games on drives as well as from your room or hotel's common areas. Beds were comfortable. Rooms had good facilities. Staff was excellent all around and they accommodated all our requests. Our driver was polite, punctual and knowledgeable - we got really good sightings with him on game drives. No real entertainment facilities in the hotel in terms of tv, music, board games, etc to keep guests engaged. Also the spa facilities were closed.
