Guest Reviews
Alles in allem: Pura Vida!
- Chris (10/5): Amazing stay in heart of nature - It's located away from the tourist areas in the jungle near a lightly visited beach. Wildlife all around. Peaceful and beautiful. Very clean. Some repairs needed here and there. Older A/C couldn't quite keep pace. Beware: bad roads and river crossings are a Nicoya norm.
- H (1/5): -
- David (10/5): Found a the spot for a Deep relaxation and connection - Super quiet, beautiful nature, very private, the kitchen has top quality ingredients, friendly staff
- VANESSA (10/5): - Exceptionnel !
- Nina (10/5): - Hele hotellets areal emmede af ro. Der var meget behageligt.
Ejeren var hjælpsom og flink
Poolen var dejlig
- Adrianne (7/5): Samara area Jungle adventure - jungle type.environment. very remote. Restaurant was excellent!! Lovely selections and great preparation. Organic and many vege options No other options close by for dining or other activities.. the listing stated it was beachfront but it was far from that...staff said it was 5 min walking distance...more like a drive on very rough roads. Samara purported to be 10-15 minute drive. More like 45-50 minutes. Feel that the.details were somewhat misrepresented. The way we were told to get to Samara was a road in terrible condition and the need to cross a river far too deep to drive our car. Did not want to take that chance and so had to turn around and go long way. Let the management know and were completely ignored..manager did not even have the courtesy to introduce himself or even thank us for the visit. We felt very dismissed. A/,C had to be repaired in our room twice. Coffee cups and coffee machine were provided in the room but no coffee or condiments and no offer to provide to us when asked. No pool towels in our room...had to search them out. Other guests reported they were in their rooms.
..

- Carla (5/5): The pool is really nice, really quiet, comfy beds. Don't expect welcoming vibes or smiles. - The pool is great! The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of.
The Beds were great, everyone in my party of 10 was really happy about the beds and pillows.
The bungalows and apartments had all the necessary kitchen gadgets. There was no salt, sugar or anything else, that sometimes you find at other places. There was dish soap and a dish towel. The fridge and gadgets were pretty new and nice. Much appreciated.
The hotel is really quiet and really rural. FYI - We were kicked out of the pool at 8:50pm. We were not being loud, just chilling.
The beach close to the hotel, is really beautiful, but more on the wild side. I loved it, but it is my personal taste. I wouldn't swim in it, though. It's pretty rough, not really a swimming beach. My friends didn't swim in it either, we had to drive to another beach. All good, but FYI. The wifi never worked for us.
You need to bring your own shampoo, soap, and conditioner, there is nothing.
Also take into consideration that it is 45min to Samara on a bumpy gravel road OR 15min crossing a river. If you have a relatively high car and in dry season, you can easily cross the river. HOWEVER, during the rainy season AND/OR if the river is high, you can't cross unless you have a 4x4 car.
The last morning of our stay, there was no power which meant, NO WATER. We didn't get any heads up on the situation, we simply ran out of water. The power company was doing some work in the area and were told power would be restored at 2pm. So, there was information available, we just never got it. This is Costa Rica, the least a hotel providing services to their guests, would do is have an external power plant. It is a common experience in CR. GET A POWER PLANT. Especially, since no power means no water.
We were planning on having breakfast there, we couldn't because no power, meant no way to pay with a credit card. We were also criticized for not carrying cash. Also, if there is no water, it is doubtful to have clean practices for cooking breakfast. We left pretty fast that morning.
The owner was rude to us from the beginning. It is not due to cultural differences, he called us "pussies" to our face, for not wanting to cross a river with a sedan that was having some mechanical issues on our way there. So, don't expect smiles and welcoming vibes.
I always ask the locals if the beach is good for swimming and I like to get information about warnings regarding the water. We were not able to get any info from them.

- Géraldine (10/5): -
- McIntosh (10/5): A keeper! - Beautiful grounds, very quiet and serene. Monkeys visited in the afternoon. Very friendly staff! Great pool.... And bonus, the food in the restaurant was excellent! A ways from Samara, but is that a negative??!!
- Barb (9/5): We were playa hopping before our flight home and definitely would stay longer next time!! - The jungle & nature experience with a late night swim in the pool! I wish I had read the location directions better earlier in the day as it was difficult to locate after sunset. Plan to arrive during daylight.
- Ann (7/5): - The staff were great. Very cheerful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very nice. The water in the bathroom smelled like Sulphur. The toilet seat broke on our last day. The pool water needed a shock treatment by our 4th day.
- angelica (9/5): - La tranquilidad El acceso.
- Inès (7/5): Beautiful garden and kind staff, but outdated rooms. - The garden and pool are very pleasant and well maintained. The waitresses are especially kind and attentive - many thanks to Evelyn for her kindness. There is a huge gap between the outdoor areas (garden and pool), which are beautiful and peaceful, and the rooms, which are old and clearly outdated. The restaurant is good but very basic, and the rooms would benefit from renovation.
The Booking listing is somewhat misleading: the hotel is described as beachfront, but it takes about a 15-minute walk to reach the beach. In addition, the stated distance of 4 km from Sámara actually corresponds to around a 35-minute drive.
We also found the attitude of the older owner disappointing. Whatever feedback we shared, he laughed and didn’t seem to care. For example, we told him that our shower was not adequate, so we did not use it and ended up showering by the pool instead.
- Stefan (10/5): Top - Perfekt Alles super
- Alejandro (10/5): -
- Michal (10/5): - Manager obiektu Rysiek Terlecki pseudonim Pies. Cisza i spokój. Ogród hamaki basen... Brak.
- Gregory (7/5): The back end of the universe - Beautiful location The worst road to arrive at hotel. Six miles of dusty, pot hole infested "road". A high ground clearence vehicle is a must. The dust covers everything.
- mark (10/5): -
- Jim (10/5): - Beautiful well-kept grounds. Walking distance to a quiet beach. A great, quiet break from the hustle of Playa Guiones. Great wildlife viewing.
- Melisa (9/5): -
- Therese (10/5): Pura Vida. - Sehr feines Essen, sehr schöne Anlage und Umgebung, gutes Internet, nettes Personal, sehr schöne Tierwelt, Meer zu Fuss schnell erreichbar. Der sehr sympathische Inhaber Rainer bereicherte unseren Aufenthalt. Kommen gerne wieder.
- Livia (6/5): -
- Monique (9/5): -
- Esteban (8/5): Relajación y alejado - lugar El camino
- Alessandra (9/5): Worth visiting again. I was very pleased with my stay - The location is absolutely beautiful. The plants and the habitat around are well taken care of, everything has a nice balance. The place was always clean, the staff is very nice, the atmosphère is peaceful, zero loud guests. Great coffee as well. I was unable to use the coffee maker in my room since the plugs are not suitable for it. Couldn’t find any soap in the shower (I didn’t request any because I brought my own, so I had no problem)
- Corinne (10/5): Perfect stay for a peaceful relaxing getaway - What a surprising little gem So peaceful and serene location, walking distance to a gorgeous beach excellent food Roads were a little rough getting there but hey it’s Costa Rica
- Yuliana (10/5): -
- Jess (10/5): Amazing location, pool and beach and organic food for a great value! - Amazing location, car required if you want to go anywhere else, but you can also stay put. The property itself is beautiful, rooms pretty basic and could get a little update but a wonderful value. The short walk to the beach is easy and Playa Buena Vista is a great beach to play at- a river area, fun waves and a big tidal area, plus tables in the shade. We loved being a bit removed from Samara but still close (with a fun river crossing). Back to the property- the food and staff are also wonderful parts of this stay, especially Evelyn. The burger was surprisingly good, and the organic food was tasty and a good value overall. Also, the toucans who live on site are a fun addition- We hope to return! The indigenous decor seemed disingenuous. Besides that, we loved everything about our stay.
- Olga (10/5): -
- Ivan (9/5): -

- Dorota (8/5): - Obiekt polozony w cudownym i zadbanym ogrodzie Zapach gazu w apartmancie, brak pelnego wyposażenia w kuchni (czajnik, sztućce, miski). Brudna kawiarka, lodówka w złym stanie.
- roger (10/5): - Es ist wie Paradies Nichts
- Edison (10/5): CALIDEZ - LA CALIDEZ TODO NOS ENCANTO; GRACIAS...
- Silvio (10/5): -

- Claudia (8/5): -
- Heather (10/5): A sacred hidden gem!☆ - Rainer, the owner, and his staff were all wonderful. My daughter and I had an amazing stay. The lodge is absolutely gorgeous! The grounds are lush and well taken care of. We enjoyed our breakfast and dinner conversations on the veranda. The food was incredible. The quality was awesome and so appreciated. It is a very special place to stay. I will be going back. Thank you, Rainer, for all your guidance ☆ Nothing
- Amber (8/5): The host was great and made up feel right at home! It was so private and away from the bustle of Samara. - It was beautiful and tranquil. We loved the (near private) beach in walking distance. The in-room cooking amenities were super useful! It was further away from Samara than we expected (in the wet season, the River prevents the closer route from town) and the food options close by were minimal.
- Bruce (9/5): Superb - Rino has done an excellent job with his site. Comfortable & relaxing stay. Thank you.
- Diego (10/5): Exceptional -
- Araceli (9/5): Peaceful stay - The hotel is all peace and quiet, the noisy neighbors are the howler monkeys 😂. Loved the atmosphere and contact with nature. We arrived an hour early, and they were still able to accommodate us, which we really appreciated. The restaurant serves good food and the service is great. Nothing to complain about the hotel, but keep in mind that you will need a car to get anywhere.
- Debra (10/5): A unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommend this place. - The property is spectaclar - the plants and trees and flowers - and the artifacts around the property and
in the restaurant. So much to appreciate. Owner and staff were very helpful. Restaurant food was wonderful
and the pool was lovely. The air conditioned room was very large as well as the washroom/shower area and
we had a beautiful outdoor space with a vine covered roof.
- Price (1/5): We didn't stay after they asked us to make a 1.5 hr round trip in the dark to find an ATM for cash. - It was a disaster. After booking w our credit card on line w Booking.com...when we arrived they wanted cash only and expected us to make a 1.5 hour drive over an extremely rough road IN THE DARK. Then they wanted us to find an ATM then come back w cash. We were not able or willing to do this as it was unsafe to do so.
..so we didn't stay. The facilities looked fine but as seniors being sent off on a 1.5 hour trip at night was unreasonable. If the policy was cash only it should have been clear at the time of booking. Very disappointed 😞. Cash only policy should have been clear at the time of booking especially when we were able to make the booking w our credit card. I haven't checked to see if we were charged but if we were...booking.com will be hearing from me.
- Wynne (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Shawn (10/5): Great place, great owners, wish we could have spent more time - Everything Nothing
- Fraser (8/5): It was an escape from hustle and bustle of a busy city! A quiet nature retreat that some young folks might find it a bit - This property was a great location if you are seeking piece and quiet and be amongst Nature! Lots of birds, howler Monkeys, Iguanas etc! An almost Private beach a 15 minute walk away! Good swimming!
Restaurant on site served up delicious meals! At a great price! This property was situated from Somara by about 30-40 minute drive on some rough roads which are common to Costa Rica! You have to have a car!
Also , rooms were cleaned and tidied everyday but towels were not changed!
- Nikolas (9/5): I would come again - Beautiful setting, very quiet, close to beautiful beaches, friendly host A little bit off the track
- Szandra (10/5): Exceptional - This is a hidden gem in the forest and we loved the tranquility of nature. Monkeys climbed the trees, birds and iguanas enjoyed the sunshine next to the pool. It's a 15-minute walk to Playa Buenavista that is perfect for sunsets. The hotel is perfect for nature lovers. The location is remote and hardly possible to access it without a car. Only dirt road connects it with Samara.
- Rosemary (8/5): A shabby chic mini resort in the most beautiful setting. Well worth the arduous journey to get there. - The whole place was so pretty and tranquil once we managed to get there. The pool was fantastic . The apartment was sort of shabby chic and very well equipped for. Self catering. It was very large with a great balcony overlooking the jungle. We sat there in the evening watching a thunderstorm overhead. In the morning waking up to just the sound of the birds was great. The restaurant was excellent. Lovely setting good food and very reasonable price. Walk to a deserted beach. So glad we managed to get there. Would have been better if we could have spent an extra night . Trying to find the place. The information said 4km from the town which must be as the crow flies. It is actually near Buenavista beach along very bumpy roads and in the middle of nowhere. The Sat nav didn’t recognise the place or the road it was on and nobody we asked in Sámara had heard of the place. The owner did e mail directions but as we were travelling we didn’t see them until we arrived . Eventually we found someone who was able to tell us how to get there by going through a river and up a dirt track only suitable for a 4x4 which we didn’t have. We made it and it was quite an adventure! However, if we’d known where it was we would have gone a much easier long way round. Learning point. Check for the owners e mail before setting off.
The owner was an interesting guy but seemed to go out of his way not to explain anything. The restaurant staff were lovely.
Although the place was well equipped for self catering , it would have been good to have had tea and coffee provided. We had sadly left our personal supply at the previous hotel and as were awake from 5 needed a drink before the restaurant opened at 7. Our lovely neighbours gave us a tea bag.
- Glen (10/5): Peaceful - Peaceful NA
- Langeveld (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tony (9/5): Excellent to escape the bike, quad and truck noise - Nature, pool and beach. Quite Different to find, more an issue with local transportation not knowing the area.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Leah (9/5): Absolutely loved this place! - Secluded, AC, great size
- Jamie (8/5): Pleasant out of the way retreat - Nice hideaway resort, far from anything. The food was excellent, the pool was nice, and the wildlife was a bonus
Try the Starmer sandwich for breakfast. Feeds two. The bed was old, hard and lumpy-really Reiner, spring for some new beds. Also the sun chaise were uncomfortable, old and the mats totally worn out.
Need some extra help in the restaurant in the evenings. Too long a wait to get served, customers ignored as the only person there, was in the kitchen cooking! Food was expensive.
There were no blankets in the room, so had to use our jackets and towels some nights to stay warm.
Closest restaurant or store was over a mile away.
- Wilma (10/5): A hidden gem in the jungle away from the crowds - We loved this lodge. The location is quiet and surrounded by nature. We saw howlers , iguanas, parakeets, and many other birds every day on the property. A 10 minute walk to a stunning turtle beach with no crowds and gorgeous sunsets. The staff are hardworking and very welcoming. The rooms are cleaned daily, the beds are comfortable, and there is hot water in the shower, which is rare. There is private outdoor seating for each cabin. The food was delicious and made from local, organic ingredients. The pool is a lovely bonus. We recommend that you have a car as the location is quite isolated, unless, like us, you just want to chill for a while. We feel that this hotel is good value for your money in this area. We liked everything.
- Olga (10/5): A stylish and serene hotel that perfectly blends with nature, offering tranquility, privacy, and an unforgettable escape - We were absolutely delighted with our choice to stay at this hotel, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to experience true seclusion and immerse themselves in the beauty of Costa Rica. The entire hotel feels like a labor of love, reflecting the owner’s passion and dedication.
It is stylishly designed and beautifully decorated, with every detail thoughtfully curated to create an incredible connection with nature. The atmosphere is serene and tranquil, offering complete peace without the distractions of crowds or noise.
If you’re seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy the beach, and reconnect with nature. It’s a true haven for relaxation and a remarkable experience we’ll never forget. None
- Christian (4/5): Disappointing - Nice garden with the pool close to the forrest, secluded beach in walking distance. Doggy is such a nice dog hanging around in the garden Moskitos all over the place, moscito screen in the window leeky. The place is pretty remote, depending on what one is looking for beneficial or not. The road to come there is bumpy
- Dominic (9/5): Superb - Gardens, pool and location were amazing. Drive around impassable river was longer and more difficult than expected
