Guest Reviews
- Mark (10/5): An excellent overnight stay - The hotel looks great from the outside on arrival and doesn't disappoint once inside...Check in was easy & quick & the staff friendly & efficient... The room was excellent....clean & well appointed...comfortable bed..good TV & Tea & Coffee making facilities...
Bartella's restaurant has a good choice of meals & the quality is very good...The bar is comfortable & well stocked...The grounds are well kept & attractive..
Oh.....and the breakfast is superb!....
Overall this is a great hotel... I have stayed in many in this area & the Ivy Hill is by far the best.... I will certainly stay here again when travelling in this area... The only small points I'd say that could be improved would be the room safe to be replaced for one that is big enough to take a laptop....and possibly a small fridge with a bottle of complimentary water...But they are minor points..
- Malcolm (10/5): Good Hotel, good staff, clean rooms, good breakfast, reasonably priced, what more would you want! - Breakfast was plentiful and varied and catered for most tastes. The room was clean and comfortable, likewise the bathroom, in fact the entire hotel was clean and tidy given the amount of maintenance hotels require. Can’t write my likes without mentioning the staff who were very pleasant and helpful. All in all a very good hotel which I will not only be returning to, but will be recommending to others. Not so much a dislike but a slight disappointment that the breakfast although very good, was not really kept very hot in their containers and was only warm not hot.
- richard (8/5): It’s nice, good value, clean and friendly. - It’s nice. Not fancy fancy but clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. Good parking space. Good breakfast. Bit of noise at night as there was a function on, but not much of an issue.

- Dilys (8/5): Comfortable stay - Clean room, comfortable bed, good shower, good breakfast. We had early morning wake-up calls each morning by a peacock outside our bedroom window! Very pretty bird but struggled to get back to sleep again. There was also a power cut when we first arrived, so we were given torches, then middle of night a generator came, so bedroom light came on waking us up. Peacock woke us again not long after! Not hotel’s fault though really.
- jamie-lee (9/5): A comfortable stay, lovely grounds and good breakfast - The bed was very comfortable. All facilities available, safe, iron, ironing board etc. The room was a good size and bathroom was large. The breakfast was good too Not applicable
- Wise (6/5): Disappointed for the price. - Bed was comfortable. Garden beautiful. I came on my own husband was ill.To hot in room had window open from when i arrived, breakfast room too hot. Breakfast eggs rubbery, ashbrowns cold, Booked on web site...said insurance and breakfast included ticked ground floor as have disabilitys. Was told at breakfast there was a charge and room on first floor. When checking out told them breakfast was included and should of been ground floor...never charged me for breakfast (didnt each much as rubbery and cold)and they apologised about room, they wasn't informed. Bar staff wasn't knowledgeable about teas and coffee to purchase. Bits of decor needs doing in places. I would of booked direct with hotel but charge for insurance for cancellation fee £40.00 think that is excessive as people dont cancel unless a very good reason. I said I was with 70th birthday party who paid £130 including breakfast I paid £145 ok cancellation cover but they said no breakfast included...I stayed before few years back...didnt have any problems.
- Ifeoma (6/5): Didn’t measure up to my expectations for the amount paid - Location was suitable The cost per night

- Marian (9/5): Very comfortable and peaceful. Great continental breakfast -
- lizzie (4/5): -
- Phyllis (10/5): Excellent country hotel. - The hotel is so beautiful. The room was clean and cosy. The bed was so comfortable. Food was delicious. Had trouble with the shower. It was old fashioned and was hard to turn on. Can do with modern ones, otherwise excellent place.
- Davina (8/5): - It was convenient for our purpose and in a very quiet location although near a major road .
The staff were very friendly and attentive Needs a few modern touches .
Heel
Klein straaltje uit kleine douche en die kon je niet ophangen. Regendouche was alleen maar koud (of wij snappen het niet😀) Verder perfect!
- Jillian (7/5): -
- Jean (10/5): - every thing so pleased we have booked for June nothing
- Paris (9/5): Brilliant stay - The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, rooms were very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly . Rooms could do with a little updating if I was being really picky and the breakfast was a tad pricy .
- shannon (10/5): -
- Norman (9/5): pleasant stay -
- Frank (8/5): -
- Philip (10/5): Excellent stay. - Excellent room, excellent breakfast and excellent staff. Nothing
- Frank (9/5): Perfect friendly hotel always my choice to stay there nothing is too much trouble for the staff 10 out of 10 - Convenient location Nothing
- Glyn (1/5): Unhelpful receptionist very ignorant.lied about the manger contacting us to sort there booking issues - Nothing Reception staff very ignorant and manager requested.
Was told they would call back but never did.
Don’t trust them they let you book and pay but if you haven’t brought the card with you they turn you away even though they have full pre authorisation.
This was paid by a company card and guaranteed.
- fiona (10/5): The Staff were exceptional , They went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay - The room was spacious with everything in it to enjoy a weekend getaway, very clean with modern design.
At Breakfast you were spoilt for choice with everything fresh & cooked to order if you wanted that little extra. There was nothing you couldn’t of liked, Beautiful Hotel in a good location
- Dominic (10/5): Valentines Night - Everything. Welcoming, clean, staff super friendly. Nothing at all
- chukuyenum (7/5): -
- gary (9/5): Very nice -
- Jim (8/5): -
- Irene (8/5): We definitely made the best choice - very enjoyable. - Swift check in, Great room "that was already warmed up" Comfortable bar -Tentative staff and our meal in the restaurant was better than expected. All in all the hotel was an excellent choice. All good
- Katherine (9/5): Comfortable and very good value for money. - Access to the pools and spa facilities at their sister hotel, Pontlands Park.
- Hazel (8/5): Lovely staff and a nice hotel I would stay again - Breakfast was good with a reasonable choice however there was not a vegetarian option for cooked brakfast The water pressure in the room was very low resulting in a poor shower
- Charlotte (9/5): - they serve really good food in the restaurant it could sometimes be difficult to get hold of the waiter
- Jason (8/5): Great team, food quality and good cleanliness - All of the team I met with delivered great service The buildings itself and rooms could do with a refresh and technology upgrade
- joanne (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): The best hotel i have stayed in by far - Absolutely every thing! From the moment i walked in, greeted by Jo (lovely lady) right thru to handy my keys in to Zoe (another lovely lady)
Our room was clean, spacious and smelt great.
We ate in Bartellas restaurant, the guys in there looked after us, were really attentive and the food (we had fish & chips) was first class! Thank you for having us Ivy Hill Hotel x leaving
- Mark (10/5): - Staff are a absolute delight the breakfast is beautiful
- joel (9/5): - staff, breakfast, dinner
- anthony (9/5): -
- Megan (8/5): - Friendly staff. The first night we stayed there was some function/event on which was quite loud and I couldn't get to sleep until midnight or after. We also asked for two beers at the bar for our room and was given three and they were opened before we realised so felt like it may have been a sales tactic or maybe just a genuine miscommunication.
- John (7/5): For one night it was fine - Good location, and tidy Room #1, all ok, yet absolutely no water pressure, shower was a trickle
- Patricia (10/5): - The staff were really friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good with a good selection available.
- Tom (8/5): -
- Kay (10/5): - The hotel looked inviting & staff greeting was give by lovely smiling faces. They ensured we had everything & breakfast was great. Nicely presented & lots of choice
- Iosif (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Excellent staff and wonderful caring service from everyone - Brilliant location
- Kelly (9/5): Welcoming, clean and staff were very attentive accross the bired - The staff were excellent hotel was spotless. The room was very hot.
- ryan (10/5): Awesome place - All spot on A little on the expensive side but normal for the area
- ryan (9/5): Lovely stay - Very clean, friendly staff, comfy beds! Great location. Very quiet after midnight Parking was a little bit tight due to parties going on but to be fair it's usually fine
- Michaela (5/5): - It looks nice... plenty of parking Very over priced....kept getting woken up by the corridor door banging right outside our door all night. Food was ok but nothing fantastic
- Paul (8/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): -
- Mark (7/5): Problem with cleaning product - We stayed at the hotel for one night and have stayed before without issue. A cleaning product or air freshener which had been used triggered a massive asthma attack in my wife within a minute of being in our room. The hotel staff were helpful and moved us to another room, which was better. We had the windows open all night but my wife was unable to sleep. After several days her breathing hadn’t improved and she required a visit to the doctor and a course of steroids to recover. Although my wife is asthmatic, she rarely needs an inhaler and is not prone to asthma attacks.
- John (8/5): Overall very good - Room spacious, clean and well furnished. Comfortable bed (but a bit soft for us). Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast for both hot and cold selections (hot buffet at the weekend but cooked to order on the weekdays). Excellent quiet location just off the A12. Good parking (though a sign to the overflow car park would have been helpful). Hot water dangerously hot. (Unusable without adding cold and basin did not have a mixer tap). Only one hand and one bath towel for two people (but found another pair in a drawer as we were checking out) Towels not replaced during stay. A room fridge would have been nice.
- O'Neill (9/5): - This hotel punches way above its weight. Great value. Highly recommended.
- Roger (8/5): Nice comfortable hotel - Nice Hotel with very caring staff.m who really looked after us. Nice room, clean with modern bathroom. I would stay there again. One the first night by 11om the room was freezing. I found an electric heater in a cupboard and the room became comfortable. Told the staff and they checked the heating and for the rest of our stay the room was cosy.
- Simon (10/5): 💯 - Everything 👍 Nothing
- Lynne (8/5): - Didn't have breakfast.
Location was perfect for me. Room was good but too much plug in air freshener! Should be a warning as if you have asthma things like that can aggrivate it. We unplugged it and put it in a drawer, but the smell hung around all night
- Anthony (10/5): From the cleaning staff to the management our stay was 100% - Clean, staff were very attentive and professional, room was as described. Parking was excellent, couldn’t have been any better.
- Rajinder singh (9/5): - Quietness Nice peaceful place
- Owen (9/5): -
- Lodge (4/5): Expensive accommodation, not good value for money, but a great location for anyone passing through. - Warm reception person on duty when we arrived, very helpful, so no complaints.
The room was a good size and bed was comfortable.
Good breakfast, served by pleasant and helpful staff. Not the cleanest place we have visited, the bedroom was not so bad, BUT.....the bathroom was dirty with pubic hairs on the bath rim and floor.
Small bath with shower over, a tight squeeze for anyone over 90 KG
Bar prices are excessive and service at the bar was not great.
- Deborah (9/5): -
- Sean (10/5): Great Hotel - Friendly Staff, comfortable, quiet, good location. All good
- Jackie (8/5): -
- Rachel (8/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Donna (7/5): - Beautiful hotel in a lovely setting. Lovely room with comfortable bed. Shower pressure was not good. Breakfast was an experience and not a good one. After waiting for a length of time to be booked in we finally started our choices for continental breakfast. The coffee machine was not straightforward to work and after several attempts a staff member appeared to help us? This lady looked at us as if we were stupid. She then came to take our breakfast order, my partner chose a Full English and I chose a few items including scrambled eggs. My partners breakfast arrived, he was waiting for me to get mine, I told him to start his and thankfully I did as mine arrived 10 minutes after his. Not impressed. As a couple we would have like to eat together. No staff available and no attentiveness when they were.

Good parking and garden areas Noise from air handling system outside room
Carpeting etc a bit old
- Alan (9/5): -
- Janet (8/5): Lovely hotel but needs some decor upgrades. Better cleaning of rooms top - Lovely staff, restaurant and bar. There was thick dust on the bedside lockers, the carpets need to be washed or replaced.
- Debbie (10/5): Excellent - The staff were superb. Really lovely particularly the ladies on reception. Nothing was too much trouble. They even got my small nephews rugby ball out of the pond I loved it all.
- Chris (5/5): - Room was nice Brickfirst was nice
- Heather (4/5): Whilst I stay in the area once a month I won’t be staying here again especially as it was the most expensive option! All - Clean and large ish room. Staff very friendly and tried to help I had the worst night’s sleep. My room appeared to be right below the water tank and from 11-2 it was incredibly noisy / you could hear it all down the corridor and it completely stopped me sleeping. I gave up went downstairs and they did give me another but that one had the fans in the kitchen come on at 7am (they did warn me as that is why they don’t normally use the room - but it was the only option). It was such a bad night I would have expected my money back tbh. I don’t think that either room should be used
- Charlene (10/5): -
- PAUL (6/5): - Poor food choice and very expensive
- Beverley (9/5): Fandabbydozy! - Perfectly located for where we needed to be. Nice area. Easy to find.
Staff were really nice, real and not like robots. So helpful!
Food ordered arrived in speedy fashion.
- PAUL (6/5): - Room ok
short of staff in bar and restaurant
- Rose (9/5): The stay was short but we enjoyed the fact that all the staff were very friendly - Clean and room was good size and good decor. Staff were very friendly Nothing
- Adrian (9/5): -
- tommy3344 (10/5): Nice stay... - Clean tidy friendly staff.. Room small
- Cresta (7/5): Convenient and comfortable - Location for us was great , the rooms were comfortable . Breakfast was good . We found the rooms a little warm and our shower had very poor pressure and the hose leaked !
- Stuart (8/5): Enjoyable stay. Comfortable room. Very good food in the restaurant. Staff helpful and polite. -
- Christopher (8/5): - Gardens Noise
- Lorraine (9/5): -
- Enid (8/5): this was our first time in the hotel, it was ideal for our short stay - room size was very generous, lots of storage for clothes, bathroom facilities excellent, bed comfortable and bedlinen fresh,
restaurant menu very varied and meals beautifully prepared and presented,
staff very welcoming and helpful
plenty of car parking space breakfast sometimes self service and at other times cooked breakfast had to be ordered meant the uncertainty of how much time to allow for the meal, however knowing that this could happen if we stayed again we would still consider the hotel if we were to return to the area.
- Darren (5/5): The stay was comfortable. Building and room just a little tired. - Check in was simple. More tea and coffee when requested. Additional towels when requested. The stay was comfortable. There was confusion as to whether breakfast was or was not included. We did get breakfast on the 2nd morning in the end.
On arrival, despite confirming online prior to arrival there were 2 of us staying, there was only 1 of each towel.
The room looked a little tired and dated, could have done with a refurb.
Overall, the room was overpriced for the lack of facilities and tiredness of the place in general.
- Mari (9/5): - Clean, warm and peaceful
- ZH (9/5): - Lovely gardens, staff friendly, breakfast was nice, great sleep, went to hylands park for festival, . But checked in on line which was straight forward. Great stay. and very very long walk back. As no taxi took 2 hrs.
Definitely need a car
- Piotr (8/5): Fajnie - Posiłki na obiad Śniadanie
- Crespel (10/5): -
- Hoskins (10/5): I'd like to come again with my wife instead of as lone. - Nice clean room. I liked the meals in the restaurant.
