Guest Reviews
- Darla (8/5): - Truly pet friendly and welcoming
- Vern (8/5): - Loved that it was pet friendly. older motel that was very clean. Gentlemen running it was very friendly.
- Matthew (10/5): - Vintage, charming, clean!
- Beth (10/5): A Gem - Everything was perfect about this motel. The price was very reasonable and the owner was very pleasant. He went out of his way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us plenty of suggestions for supper and sight seeing. Fresh coffee available in morning. Even called me to let me know that I had left the pillow behind.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Property has had some upgrades but there is a long, long way to go. Example, filthy light switches that have been in there for decades, room reeked of dirt and endless cigarettes. In corner behind the door was a massive spider web with dead insects entangled in the web and about 25 flies in the window, some were smashed with the curtain and some were chasing us in the room. Road noise was loud, beds were 20 years old and overall the whole place is in shambles. There are much better places to stay in Mitchell, until this motel is fully gutted. Don't waste your time/money staying here.
- Cathy (6/5): - For the price it was clean, needed a place to stop and sleep
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Rooms were clean. It was a great budget friendly option that was within a walkable distance to Dakota Wesleyan University. Staff was friendly.

- Dinah (10/5): - Very easy parking.
- Billie (10/5): - Was very clean, bathroom, new, management friendly. Outside needs some cleaning up, but it has some age, was freshly cleaned, and mowed. Large parking lot, easy to find, safe area.
- Evelyn (6/5): - No breakfast provided. Needs updating.
- Rachel (8/5): good find - Great little place for the price. It was clean and did the job for a 1 night stay.

- Trevor (10/5): - Everything was great about this place. 10/10
- Nancy (8/5): - Basic clean hotel. Not enough outlets and no heat. 50’s at night but shut the boiler off due to warmer days. Brought us a small space heater and that worked. Office was supposed to be open at 7 for coffee but wasn’t.
- Wyota (10/5): - Very friendly, room was clean with exception of carpet. Truly love having my car parked in front of my door!
- Dawn (10/5): - The owner is very nice and gave me the room that I parked in front of. I loved being able to bring my things right into my room instead of walking through a hotel and up an elevator, etc. The room is nice. It's roomier than many hotels and has a mini fridge and microwave, dresser and desk, plus excellent wi-fi. I would definitely stay here again.

- Coleen (10/5): Comfortable stay - Stayed over one night on my to Nebraska. Property is Right off the interstate. Such a cute little motel. Staff was very friendly. Room and bed was super comfortable! Very clean and affordable! I have stayed in chain hotels all over the country that weren’t as clean and cozy as this sweet little motel. Would stay here again!
- Peary (10/5): - We have always the hospitality here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Bait and Switch wuth a side of ants... - First of all, we are very easy people to work with when it comes to resolving issues that may come up. However, when i mentioned that the rate was $59 per night on Hotels.com to the Owner, he stated that, "I charge in person, not through the Hotels.com website (although it said otherwise on the site...), and my rate is, $81.03."
This is a huge jump from the $59 we were told we had. The good news was, we checked our bank information, and we were not charged both prices, just the $81.03. However, we first shrugged it off, because the Owner was nit going to budge any.
The room was very dirty; grime on the walls, dust over a quarter inch deep on the vents, signs of black mold above the bath tub, and the carpet was very old and needs to be renewed. While i was in the bathroom, doing my business, i looked diwn and the floor was movung! About thirty if not more of what appeared to be Suger-Ants, were crawling all over the place, so i I got a towel and tried to squash as many as i could, so they didn't end up on my clothing or luggage....
So, to be "bait and switched" on the money situation on top of the filth factors, nade me write this warning to any future guests. We are coming back from a 13-hour trip, going to Mayo in Rochester, so we only need a couple of beds was all till morning and for the roads to clear themselves of the snow.
We should have just paid the extra ten dollars and stayed at a more streamlined location to rest at. Hotels.com is working on refunding some.
- Patricia (10/5): - "Vintage" but very clean with friendly staff. Nice to park in front of room and cross the parking lot to the field where my dog could run. We'll be back!
- George (10/5): Westward Ho! - Overnight stop on a longer trip. Super friendly and helpful owners. Comfortable, clean and affordable!
- Brandon (10/5): - Owner was very friendly and attentive. Super clean room and the price is definitely right. Would stay here when passing through SD again for sure
- Sylvia (10/5): - Very pleasant CLEAN hotel.
- Mary (10/5): - So clean, and homemade goodies.
- Jody (10/5): - Friendly owner and very clean. Great, cheap place to sleep on the way to the Black Hills.
- Bryan (10/5): Solid. Dependable. - Owner was really nice about notifying us of forgotten belongings. Had good restaurant recommendations.
- Donna (10/5): - Friendly, comfortable room. Clean and I love parking in front of my room. My only complaint is the curtain had holes and a gap so it didn’t close all of the way.
- Thomas (8/5): - The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. He gave useful suggestions and information about anything that I wanted to know about the local area. The motel is dated, but has everything one needs. Very quiet!
- Gregory (10/5): - Slept very well
- Ralph (8/5): - It's an older small motel that seems well maintained and has friendly staff.
- Pat (8/5): - It was quiet and that was good. It's a little dated but otherwise worthwhile.
- Paula (10/5): Wonderful place - If you are looking for shiny glass and chrome this is not your place. But if you want an exceptionally clean property that is quiet and ran by a very nice couple this is your place. It is a hidden gem. The room was spacious with comfortable beds. I will stay there again on my next trip through.
- Peter (10/5): -
the service was good and room was clean and affordable.
- Steven L (8/5): - Nice manager who helped when the TV wasn't working. Maintained fairly well and was clean. Older property near a major noisy road. Ran out of Kleenex tissues so should be better at maintaining supplies. No coffee in room nor breakfast available but what can we expect for the low price. Otherwise a nice place to stay for a quick overnighter to drive to our next destination.
- Susan (10/5): - The place was clean and people were friendly.
- Rachel (10/5): Great family owned business - Brian at the front desk is such a nice guy. As a single woman traveling I felt very safe at the motel. Also, yes it’s “retro” but SUPER CLEAN which is what’s important to me.
- Grant (10/5): - Well looked after motel. Large rooms and clean.
- Robert (10/5): - If you like Mom & Pop motels you will love this place. The owners
- Dawn (10/5): - The Coachlight was a great choice. The room was spacious, had a fridge and microwave, and two comfy chairs. The WiFi was fine. It was very clean (my dog found nothing in the corners or under the beds to eat as she had in the two previous nights at chain hotels). It was also very reasonably priced ($65). In short, I would stay here again.
- Kathleen (10/5): Hidden Gem! - What a lovely little motel. Quite a pleasant surprise! It was one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed at. The building is older, but well kept up. Bryan was friendly, helpful, and genuinely a nice man. I appreciated how clean everything in the room was. I was traveling alone with my dog, and I always felt safe there.
- Stephen (10/5): - Old school time capsule… brings back great memories of what travelling used to be like 👍 👍
- Sheryl (8/5): - It was clean. My bed was good, the other was not. Missing extra set of towels. too tired to go down and get another set but I booked for 2 people. the supplies should have reflected that.
- Lauren (10/5): I’ll stay again - Great family owned motel...and it shows. The owner was super welcoming and helpful.
- Myrna (8/5): Would stay again - This is a basic motel. Outdated but clean. Comfortable bed and pillows.
- Annette (10/5): - The motel owners were really nice. I really appreciate local businesses vs the chain hotels. Older decor, but kept up well. Small fridge and microwave. Coffee in the lobby, no breakfast. Worked well for us.
- Kevin (10/5): - Oldie but goodie...
Can't beat the price...
Older place but perfect for laying your head to rest. I will stay again if in the area. My only suggestion would be for softer pillows.
- Stanley (10/5): - Great place, beautifully maintained older style lodging, thanks for a great night's sleep
- Vincent (8/5): - The gentleman who runs the place is nice. Room was in decent condition. It is a bit inconvenient to have to slam the door without the key in the knob. I would certainly stop by again if visit the area in the future.
- Rolin (10/5): - Office gave me great help in local dining and other area amenities
- Patricia (10/5): - Helpful manager, especially with check-in
- Scott R (6/5): - This motel was VERY old. The room was very basic, and very dated. There was plenty of free coffee available. The breakfast was a box of donuts from a bakery and 2 clamshell containers of mini donuts.
- Robert E (10/5): Would stay again. - Enjoyed visiting with the owners who recommended a place for us to stop for some specific shopping. Room was clean, comfortable and a great price!
- Mary (10/5): Nice - Great little place to stop on our way through. Clean. Friendly.
- Valerie (10/5): Helping out the local vs the chain hotels. - Brian was very nice and very appreciative of our business. It is family owned and independent….very comfortable and you can’t go wrong for the price. The chains wanted twice the price and this was a stop over during a 27 hour drive. So glad we found the Coach light and will stay again .
- Dawn (8/5): Good motel - Great for a one night stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great room! - No frills hotel room. Very clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Decent water pressure in shower. Felt like I stepped back in time. Great room!
- Jean T (10/5): Very happy with my stay at Coachlight - This is a budget motel, and within that category, I thought everything was excellent. The bed was comfortable, the check-in service was excellent, and they even called me when I left my pillow in the room to let me know it was there. I was only a few blocks away and able to retrieve it. Easy access from the I-90 freeway and good location for tourist-y things in Mitchell.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A Real Gem! - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Coachlight Motel. The reception was courteous, polite and efficient, as the desk attendant answered all our questions and provided guidance on the town's history and culture. We love vintage motor lodge-style motels, and the Coachlight has been lovingly maintained by the same family for 50 years. A real gem!
- Lisa (10/5): Nice - Clean, inexpensive,no frills, but owner really helpful and attentive
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Just lovely place and two friendly host “puppies” that greeted us!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great local service. Friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean rooms
- Richard (10/5): Clean and comfortable - An older motel but clean and comfortable and that is all we look for on the road. Great price and a good night’s sleep.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Manager was very helpful.
- Tom (8/5): - An older establishment but a good value and comfortable .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The price was right and the manager was friendly. The room could use a thorough cleaning and update. The location was good for getting into town.
- Garry (8/5): Excellent establishment for mom and poppers. - Owner was friendly and engaging. He's a one man operation. The rooms are clean and neat. Everthing functions. The ONLY drawback would be the room darking curtains are in need of replacement.
- Richard (8/5): Great value. - Older motel, but updated pretty well and great value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Older motel with very nice and accommodating owners
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I gave a 3 because the place was inexpensive and the owner is nice and accommodating. I have nothing exceptionally positive to say about the room or about coronavirus protocol (which is treated as a joke in SD, in my opinion), so I won't. OK, if you're looking for a cheap place to stay. Better to steer clear of this state until things are better.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Customer service was lacking, no a gracious host. Complained about the price I paid no amenities
- David (4/5): Dirty - The room was very dirty even by motel standards. There were several bugs in the room and I found one in my fiancée’s hair. We didn’t even want to sleep under the covers.
- Gary/Mary (8/5): - It was a nice place stay a little outdated but very friendly and very clean
- Mary (6/5): - Good value. Very clean, no frills room. Friendly and convenient location.
