Guest Reviews
- HELEN (8/5): - Location fabulous, great food and really helpful friendly staff Next door to noisy children & dogs. Staff moving outdoor metal furniture around at 8am !
- Beryl (10/5): A perfect place for a break , peaceful and relaxing. - Lovely old inn but with modern facilities, warm and welcoming.
- Belinda (10/5): - Very large omfortable room. Great location. Friendly helpful staff.
- Steve (7/5): Full of history in the heart of the Lake District - The staff, the food and drinks were very good. The Badger Bar is 400 years old and had a great authentic smell and feel to it. The room was large and quirky with decent facilities. Seeing badgers in the evening. Located on a road made is quite noisy. Too many stairs.
- Rob (9/5): -
- Hélena (10/5): Cozy and fantastic! There is only one summary, magical! - Bagder bar met all my expectations. Travelled alone to the Lake District without a car and wanted to find a place that was close to beautiful places. I couldn't have found a better hotel. Not only because it was close to everything I wanted but also because of all the fantastic staff, food and the cozy atmosphere. The room was so nice and the bed divine to sleep in. Will be more than happy to come back. There is nothing that was bad. Everything was great.

- James (9/5): - Great location and staff was very accommodating for the early start of an event providing breakfast at 5:30am. Great Sunday roast. Smell of garlic through the room, maybe due to room being above or near kitchen vents.
- Elizabeth (10/5): -
- Neil (7/5): Nice 2 night break food and drinks excellent. All the staff were very professional and it is nice to see happy staff the - Quirky building which is very interesting. We had a shower over the bathtub which is not our favourite.
- James (10/5): - Everything
- Colin (7/5): Comfortable retreat. - On good bus route (555) to keswick or bowness etc. Breakfast service could be improved. Waited 35 mins from ordering to receiving the cooked breakfast. Was good when it arrived.
- Kerry (8/5): Great location with very friendly staff and we would visit again. - The history, the quirkiness and of course the boulders. The rooms can get very cold, we did have a heater but it was either too hot or too cold. The breakfast and dining room were also very cold.
- Martine (10/5): Great Value for Money, quirky and traditional hotel, welcoming and friendly staff. - Everything!
The room was stunning and extremely good value for money.
The staff were really friendly and accommodating.
The food was great. We had dinner and breakfast.
The badgers feeding was really good addition to our stay too. Nothing. Everything was great.

- Erin (10/5): Beautiful and friendly. Fabulous location. -
- Polly (8/5): Great location - Location was fantastic Went to see the badgers from our seating outside and a bar man took our half full bottle of wine and glasses.
On enquiring he admitted he took them and gave us 2 large glasses of wine.
If you advertise badgers people are going to move from their seats to watch and leave their drinks
- Joshua (10/5): Loved our stay and would definitely stay again beautiful hotel - Everyone was friendly and helpful helping out my family with a newborn, it was an amazing place to stay the room was perfect, definitely worth staying and even visiting
- Ewen (10/5): Badgers, rambles and beer! - Centrally located with a fantastic ambiance, fantastic staff and actual badgers. Totally recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a ramble, good food and a great bar. Nothing it was exactly as expected

Delicious breakfast
Helpful friendly staff Nothing
- Edwina (8/5): Very much enjoyed the stay & staff were efficient & pleasant. - Very comfortable bed which included good quality pillows. Excellent service at meal times & food was good value. View from room onto woodland where we saw a couple of red squirrels. They were sensible in keeping the menu choice limited so it was manageable for the kitchen, however, it would have been better if the specials could have been changed more (we ate 3 dinners in so felt choice a bit limited by night 3) although it maybe that most guests only stay 1 to 2 nights.
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Richard (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): - What an incredible location!! Just a short walk to Rydal Caves. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was so nice too. My favourite part was the Badger feeding after dinner. Highly recommend!!!
- Rosalind (6/5): -
- Hemam Biju (8/5): Very comfortable and pleasant stay in a great setting - Location, clean and comfortable Small washbasin
- Valerie (10/5): - Le style british
- Amila Kandambi (9/5): -
- Jeslin (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Great value and fantastic staff in the heart of the Lake District - Great location, exceptionally well priced and the staff were brilliant! Nothing, can’t wait to go back!
- anne (10/5): best whim of a choice i ever made. - perfect location, amazing room with william morris wall-paper a 4 post canopy bed, a dreamy little sitting area. great pub and outdoor seating almost nothing. i wish the tv weren't on the desk so i could use the desk...and...because i'm american...i wish i could get more ice and breakfast went later and dinner went later. but it's the country and its just cozy here.
- Hanna (10/5): -
- Gemma (10/5): - The staff were lush, the resident dog was the absolute best. The room was spotless and the bed was super comfy. I didn't see any badgers...lol. not the hotels fault, We can blame the badgers themselves x
- Kelly (10/5): - We liked everything, friendly staff, great food, clean rooms
- Ashleigh McKendrick (10/5): - Fabulous stay for me and my family. Lovely hotel, staff and food. Couldn't have asked for more Nothing
- christine (9/5): Very relaxing. - Breakfast was excellent, as we're the waiting on staff, for both the breakfast and evening dinner staff. Evening dinner menu was fine but could do with a bit more variety. I would have liked to have seen hunters chicken rather than a spicy chicken burger. If spicy needs to be on the menu try a basic chilli.
- Erin (10/5): - Booked last minute and was really happy.
The staff were lovely and friendly.
Had dinner and the food was fab, huge portions and very reasonable prices. Breakfast was included in booking and there was lots to choose from. Nothing, we gad a lovely stay.
- Paul (9/5): - Location was perfect, well in reach of Ambleside and Windermere.
- Lorna (10/5): Exceptional stay. - Beautiful building, amazing location. Great staff, good food ( had the Cajun chicken burger and garlic mushroom starter). Nothing to complain about. The Badgers didn't make an appearance for us but that's a good excuse to come again 😁.
- Jo (3/5): - Location and staff were great The bar area was cold and dirty, the food and wine were terrible, the bed was very uncomfortable, as a result we left after our first night despite paying for 2 nights.
- Margaret (10/5): Warm - Welcoming & Wonderful. - Our room was lovely - and so warm when we arrived. The perfect welcome. Would definitely stay again. All credit to them. Nothing.
- Allan (8/5): -
- jon (10/5): Quiet stay in a lovely location. - Stayed here before and again it was lovely.
Great property and base for exploring the South Lakes area.
The hotel has great character and a very popular bar which has great local beers.
The food is typical pub food but very good. Nothing
- Greaves (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Comfortable clean and friendly - It’s history , the building’s appearance, it’s location with easy access to fabulous walks no matter the weather.
A great stopping off location , for exploring further into the Lake District .
Comfortable, clean and friendly Other than the fact I had to leave eventually, nothing . It was superb .
- Lesley (8/5): - Bedroom felt cold. It would be handy if the heating could be checked before arrival, especially in winter as the room didn't really warm up. Staff very attentive in dealing with this.
- Ellie (10/5): -
- Ella (10/5): Great - The staff and rooms
- Zhaoguo (10/5): Fantastic! Really enjoyed the stay and the food! -
- Sara (7/5): A little overpriced but lovely area, building character and unique badger experience. - The food was good, the staff were fantastic, helpful, welcoming, polite and lovely to be around. The view was lovely and the special bonus of being able to see badger feeding was excellent. The character of the building was incredible. The hot drinks machines turned off earlier than the bar closed and a hot chocolate before bed woul shave been lovely, there were also no hot chocolates in the rooms for non coffee and tea drinkers though the tea selection was excellent and my other half appreciated that. The tub collecting water under the bathroom radiator wasnt great, the water power in the shower could have been better. The room was very pricey for what it was in general.
- Ellen (9/5): It was a cosy authentic English countryside stay. - It was exactly what I expected an authentic countryside hotel to be like, I stayed in the cottage at the back after receiving a free room upgrade and the facilities were great but it still had that nice rustic feel to it. It was kept to a clean standard and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I dined in the restaurant both nights and the food was good and the staff were very attentive overall it was a very positive stay. There is nothing that comes to mind when making a comment on what I didn’t like.
- Eliza (8/5): -
- Dave (7/5): - Huge room, nice bathroom, Badger feeding in the evening Main bed was very creaky
- Sergei (10/5): - Excellent location, fantastic food, brilliant and very welcoming staff. Our room was exceptionally clean and the bed was unbelievably comfortable.
P.S. the badgers were super cute. Worth the wait. Not really, everything was great. Wish we could have stayed for a little longer.
- Joseph (9/5): -
- Joe (8/5): -
- Adrian (8/5): Really convenient for a solo traveler with plenty of parking space , well organised reception - Breakfast was exactly as a full English breakfast should be, not too much of anything but a wide range of textures and tastes and colours. The egg which I asked to be fried was presented perfectly with the white well formed and the yolk still slightly runny. It was hot when served. The wait between ordering and presenting was pretty quick particularly as I was one of the first guests for breakfast.
- Josephine (9/5): Perfect location for a weekend in the lakes - The location is perfect 👍 The badger watching was a real treat and a first. The room was extremely spacious and the bathroom modern and well lit. The room was unbelievably hot with only one window that opened so we had to wedge the door open to create a draft through the room. We appreciate that it was a particularly hot weekend but for the price of the room, a fan would have been welcome as well as the offer of some iced water on arrival (given there was no fridge in the room) Just a jug of tap water with ice to take up to the room would have been really appreciated and again, given the price of the room, not beyond our expectations we don’t think. Just some little things that would have made all the difference and improved the quality of our stay.
- Keeley (10/5): Amazing - Everything, the room was lovely and the views were amazing. The food was very nice too. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. We would definitely come stay again. Shows a large jacuzzi bath on the pictures of the room we stayed in with the Mountain View’s and there wasn’t a large jacuzzi bath there a bath but wasn’t the large square one. But was still very nice
- Ian (10/5): -
- Beverley (10/5): - Great location. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Michael (10/5): A must stay, will definitely be back. - Everything was amazing. Location, hotel and the bar. NA
- Nia (10/5): -
- Linda (9/5): Loved it , very happy - Very comfortable, great service , lovely place Little bit of careful cleaning would be good,
- Bryony (9/5): Gorgeous property soaked in history. - Beautiful historic hotel with probably the most beautiful room I’ve stayed in, and a cosy bar. Parts of the expansive restaurant area were a bit chilly, but it was -2 outside…
- Joan (8/5): -
- Brett (10/5): -
- JASNA (9/5): Beautiful friendly hotel that dues not disappoint. - The room was beautiful and staff were super friendly. Breakfast was lovely and fresh and hotel close enough to Ambleside and to the lakes. Nothing. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be coming back.
- Ellie (10/5): New Year's Weekend Break - Great location
Food was hearty and good value for money
Staff were friendly and accommodating, if we needed anything Our room had a distant smell of paint which became more apparent when I put the small electric heater on at the bedside- slightly off putting when the room was really toasty of an evening
- Matt (10/5): Brilliant food, drink and stay - Brilliant location Nothing it was excellent
- Calyn (10/5): - Everything N/A
- James (1/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Delicious food plus warm & cosy rooms - Spacious family room with excellent facilities including modern bathroom and tea / coffee supplies.
The highlight was the food both our dinner and breakfast were outstanding!
Friendly staff and perfect location to leave the car and enjoy the walks and scenery.
- Laura (4/5): I appreciated the dog bowl and welcome pack, however the room was cold and there was inadequate parking. I had to part m - That I was allowed to bring my dog The inadequate and very tight parking
