- Mathieu (3/5): -
- Nathaniel (8/5): - Staff were lovely and well spoken English, Food was ok for part japanese and western style breakfast, bedding a little uncomfortable for me but others seemed to be OK with it, cosy nice affordable, recommend on a budget.
Thanks

- Mike (8/5): Good value great location. - Great location and very tidy, well presented hotel. A breakfast bar/buffet would be good.
- Wendy (7/5): Clean and great location. - Close to the shuttle bus pick up point. No heating in the sitting room/ lounge room.
- chi kit (2/5): The lock of the room is completely detached from the door, anyone could push through - Location Cleanliness, terrible WiFi
- sugiura (3/5): -
- LEIGH (8/5): - very local down stairs area a bit warmer
- Lachlan Cahir (10/5): - Good parking , easy to get everywhere. Good onsen .
Cheap as chips but all we needed. Could have used 1 more blanket. Wasn't cold. But I had to share a small blanket with my 4yr old.
- Ryan (7/5): -
- Harrison (7/5): -
- Ashley (1/5): -
- Stephanie (6/5): - Breakfast not worth it, cold eggs.
- Harry (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): Very good - Very good value for money, 10 minute mini bus ride to Iwatake ski slopes in the morning. Piano background music all night being played in the corridor.
- Decosterd (8/5): Very good -
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional - If you’re ready to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese, stay here. The room was simple but perfect for what we needed. The shower is an onsen. The location is about a 12 min walk from Iwatake resort and there is a bus stop about 20m from the hotel.
- Niko (3/5): Even for budget hotel, price performance absolutely not matched. - Like almost everything in Hakuba, it is old and overpriced.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastisk service!
- Ye (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (5/5): Passable -
- Jason (10/5): - Great location with amazing staff
- Arabella (3/5): Poor -
- Mike (9/5): Great stay, going back again next ski season! - Great service, rooms simple but perfect for our needs, very clean. Lounge room on ground floor needed heating. Too cold to be useable (weather conditions zero or sub zero degrees outside)
- Jack (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jackson (4/5): lucky the location was good - location was good, could snowboard home from iwatake there was no proper beds, just mats on the floor
- Kimi (7/5): Good - The onset and breakfast were really nice. Close to the shuttle pick up spot for access to ski areas. I would make sure to book a normal bed the next time. The mats aren’t quite as comfortable as a regular mattress.
- Ashley (8/5): - We had a good stay at Furuhata, but there were a few inconveniences. The onsen was fantastic—nice and hot, perfect after a long day of skiing. Towels and kimonos were replaced daily, which was a great touch, and beds were made every two days. The price was reasonable, and the shuttle to the ski resort was convenient.
However, there was no shuttle into town, bus station or train station and taxi options were nonexistent, which made getting around a bit tricky. There were only a few restaurants within walking distance, so food options were limited. The front desk staff didn’t speak much English, but Google Translate made communication easy.
Overall, a comfortable stay with great amenities, but be prepared for some transportation challenges if you want to explore beyond the ski resort.
- Greg (8/5): Convenient location, good value - Breakfast N/A, very comfortable, helpful with organizing transport. slippers never fitted .
- Kelsey (1/5): Bad - Affordable, only thing left when we booked.
Close to Iwatake Bathrooms are HORRENDOUS.
Uncomfortable beds
Drying room doesn't work at all
Very loud due to paper thin walls
Tiny towels
Out of the way, difficult to get to town centre.
Our room was in a different building, so we had to cross the road in the snow/dark to use the showers, which was a shared situation, so you could be showering at the same time as others.
- Jordan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Heidi (4/5): - Charged me double when I arrived very uncomfortable to sleep
- Brooke (7/5): Good -
- Erin (5/5): Passable - Onsen was nice Rooms were older and not super clean
- Mary (1/5): Will definitely not come back in this hotel to stay - None Better staff and customer service
- Lachlan (7/5): Good - Good breakfast, good view from room. Big drying room. Didn’t see the host much at all. Had questions that couldn’t be answered as he was never at the desk.
- Hayley (8/5): Affordable, comfortable and convenient! - Quite affordable and we chose accommodation based on the short walk to 7-Eleven. There were several of the free buses to all of the major ski resorts all available either on the same street 1-2min walk or around the corner at Felse Inn Gakusui. We got the main bus to Cortina after catching a shuttle to Iwatake. Onsen was a bonus and great to use after a day skiing, just don’t forget local customs with the onsen. Was fairly convenient to get to from Nagano bus 5min walk, but ended up not being able to get the bus back without pre-booking a seat which we didint know until the day we left. Seemed to be a few dining options around, but if you are looking for nightlife this is not the place, but it is a lovely quaint street and quite beautiful!
- Raja (8/5): Very good -
- Khine (1/5): Bad - Restricted
- Madison (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay here and was pleasantly surprised with how accommodating our host was. We were nervous after reading some reviews complaining about how the host was unhelpful or the property was lacking but our accommodation had everything we needed and was nice and warm. The host explained the bus schedule to us when we arrived and it was very easy to access Happo One within 10-15 minutes on the shuttle. We shipped our skis to the hotel and while he didn't communicate well with us ahead of time, he held our skis and even helped us ship our skis to our next location easily.
The only thing I would warn others is that there are limited restaurant options nearby (although there are a few within a 10-15 min walk) so plan accordingly or make a booking ahead of time that includes dinner at the property.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mintra (10/5): Exceptional - front staff and pet friendly hotel far from hakuba station
- Samuel (8/5): Very good -
- Alannah-jane (3/5): not good - Very close to multiple bus stops, close to 7/11 the room was musty, not hot water from taps. the onsen was old and run down. Little to no heating in rooms other than our bedroom. Felt very lonely, isolating and sad. I would not recommend staying here
- Czarina (8/5): Very good -
- Ma (3/5): Poor -
- Ashley (8/5): Very good -
- Deo (1/5): Not coming back. Most likely the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at. - Free Parking
Location
Price There was a stink bug in the room we stayed at
Moldy onsen walls
Creepy hallway
Bathroom is in another building
Public toilet’s heater not working
Screechy floors
Thin walls
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Jasmin (7/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Surprised by the location, very pretty street with a 7/11 close by and a couple of nice resturants
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (8/5): A bus 50m down the hill no 8 to Happo one the no 11 to iwataki. - Proximity to ski fields and bus connections. Nil
- Ryan (3/5): Poor -
- Bronte (10/5): Great Week in Hakuba - The on site onsen was a blessing after a long day at the snow. There is a cute bar across the road and sandwhich shops on the street. It is located between 2 shuttle bus stops to Iwatake and Happo One. Great spot. It is a little way away from eating hotspots such as Echoland and Happo. However there is a night demand taxi stop on the street and at 7/11 near by - sometimes is just a long wait for a taxi.
- Jennifer (5/5): Passable -
- Estabillo (5/5): Passable -
- Mark (3/5): Poor - There is no hair blower in the rooms and the sauna is not free, no breakfast included.
- Madeson (7/5): Good -
- Marc (1/5): Overall, expect less than what you are paying for and be prepared for a rough stay if this is where - Pros:
- good sized room
- decent location for skiing (1 min walk to shuttle bus taking you to Iwatake Gondola) Cons:
- non existent drying room: the drying room is old, unheated and unusable. It does not dry anything and serves no purpose.
- location of room: Beware that you can be put in a room opposite the main building, requiring you to run across the road in sub zero temperatures to shower.
- heating: toilets and corridors are not heated at all. expect to be freezing most of the time.
- service: the receptionist/hotel owner gave us the wrong directions leading to us almost missing our bus to our next location. He also did not put any effort into helping us look into whether we could put our luggage at Iwatake gondola and told us it was impossible (it was actually possible).
- poor location for food: there is 1 restaurant within walking distance and the next best option is 7/11 15 minutes away. Any other food will require you to take a night taxi back to the accomodation.
- Our room was assigned to the building opposite from the main lobby. There was no wifi in that building. We had to go back to the main lobby for wifi.
- Rawee (8/5): Very good - Good price. Not so much restaurants around.
- Kassandra (10/5): - Super friendly and gracious staff, AMAZING breakfast, onsen, sauna, and laundry downstairs, close to bus stop, and free shuttles
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, tidy and warm
- Peter (8/5): Very enjoyable and relaxing - Location was good 20-30min interesting walk into Hakuba. ? Maybe better suited to travellers with transport as there was only 2 shuttle buses to Happo Nothing to dislike. Grandaughter even got her snow delivery on Xmas am
- Francesco (5/5): Passable -
- Christian (7/5): Good -
- Farah (1/5): Worst hotel ever. When we switch on the tv. The person (japanese man) next room knocked the wall really hard 2 times sho - I hate everything about the hotel. We paid for 2 nights but only stay for a night. Everything. The room was located at another building (not the main building). With no shower room. If you need a shower, you will have to go to main building. How ridiculous.
- Zikhona (8/5): Great location. - Transport to other ski resorts was very accessible. Communicate with the owner / reception was exceptional. Rooms were clean. Nothing.
- Takudzwa (8/5): lovely and cozy places. Stayed a couple nights and had no issues. fresh towels every morning. -
- Allison (9/5): Superb - Great location - 4 min walk from the bus stop from Nagano, 1 min to the shuttle bus to Iwatake Resort or Happo Resort, 10 min to the train station. There are good restaurants and bars close by. Onsen was nice and hot. The traditional Japanese room was very comfortable. The staff member at reception was helpful and friendly.
- Thalloory (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Also not a fancy hotel, we have made our third family trip back to La Montaigne as it is simply a great great value for money. Yesterday we looked at five other similarly rated hotels and Pensions in Hakuba and nothing could beat La Montagne. The Japanese rooms are basic but bright and clean. The onsen in the basement is a godsend after a hard day on the slopes and the kids especially really appreciate this as part of our skiing routine. We also like that the hotel caters to mostly Japanese skiers.
- Chyi Cherng (6/5): Below average - Rooms are filled with stinky cigarette smells. Super dusty beddings. First dinner on New Year Eve was massively disappointing. Trash is not cleared daily. No peepads provided for pets, only 2 pieces of Newspaper for 3 days. Everything else was acceptable.
- Peter V (8/5): Affordable hotel close to Happo One - The place is nothing fancy, but it is very affordable, run by a lovely old couple, we were the only foreigners in the hotel which made it feel more authentic . The rooms are basic, the on Sen down in the basement was fantastic after a cold day on the slopes, my kids loved all of us sleeping in one room on the role out futons. If you require five-star creature comforts this is not the place for you, on the other hand if you want a lovely and fun place to stay that meets all your basic needs then this is the place!
- Rommel (10/5): Almost ruined Winter Holidays - When I made the reservation, I chose the hotel based from what I have seen in the website. However, I was very disappointed because the room we got was not as expected. The building was very old and untidy with NO private toilets which was NOT clearly defined in the Booking Confirmation. Also, the bath was in the other building across the street when it was clearly define in the Booking that there is a Private Bathroom and a bath tub.
LUCKILY, there were available rooms in the Main Building but I needed to pay an additional cost as an upgrade. IF THERE WERE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE IN THE MAIN BUILDING FOR US TO TRANSFER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT DISASTER AND MY VACATION TOTALLY RUINED!!! If this will happen again, I promise I will not use Hotels.com again in the future.
