Guest Reviews
- Bri (10/5): - The staff is very friendly, decor was welcoming and the food at the restaurant was great. We had the best old fashioned we highly recommend it.
- Elaine (10/5): Great stay - My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location, nestled in its own tree filled garden, was relaxing and the hotel itself still retained the charm of the family home it was. We ate in the restaurant: the food was excellent, plenty of choice for two vegetarians like us, and the staff were very helpful. We also tried some cocktails which were also excellent. Our stay was relaxing, enjoyable and good value for money.
- Suzanne (10/5): Great stay! - It was fabulous!
- Peter (8/5): Two night stay. - Hotel was nice, and staff very helpful but our room was far too hot. Bar service was slow on the first evening due to lack of staff. Food in the restaurant was excellent.
- Carol (10/5): - Beautiful property, very clean charming stuff excellent facilities.
- Ian (10/5): - History,
Staff excellent
- Nicola (10/5): Lovely stay - Clean comfortable stay, beautiful grounds and gardens, common areas beautifully furnished, rooms are smallish but comfortable, rooms and ensuites not as modern as common areas. I would stay again
- Gerald (8/5): - Friendly, helpful staff. Room upgrade freely given when the first room was unsuitable due to lack of ventilation on sunny day. Breakfast was mostly good but could be a little disorganised (juice and milk running out, tables not fully laid etc.) and buffet was rather limited in range. However good choice of cooked items, well-presented.
- Ryan (10/5): Amazing hotel and staff - The room we had was big, plenty storage and seating. The bathroom was nice with a large bath. The complimentary jar of sweets/choc was a nice touch. Staff were friendly and approachable. Bar staff very knowledgeable about the drinks on offer. Food was really good. Hotel had a very relaxed feeling about it, nice lounge area to air and enjoy drinks.
- Karen (10/5): - Extremely comfortable room. Spotlessly clean. Towels were great. Staff very polite and friendly.
- Alice (10/5): - Stayed here for a business trip. Fantastic hotel, it is absolutely beautiful and the area is just gorgeous.
I came in late and the staff were so welcoming and kind and let me get up to bed and settle up the next morning. I had the Eggs Benedict which was delicious and again all the staff were lovely.
The only reason for the 4*on facilities is the room I was in was slightly dated but the new owners are in the middle of renovations. However the room was clean and the bed was super comfy.
All in all great stay and would 10/10 recommend :)
- cathy (10/5): - staff were so attentive nothing was to much bother nice place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful hotel our bedroom could be bigger but comfortable enough. Staff friendly and helpful. Everything spotless. Food nice and cooked well.
- Euan (10/5): - Great service in a lovely location.
- Ian (10/5): - Staff were first class, staff friendly and helpfull
- Bruce (10/5): - Friendly staff and owners throughout our stay. Room was very spacious and clean.
- Joan (10/5): Great place to stay ❤️ - Lovely night away, room was on small side and was a bit tired but very clean. Nice toiletries and a jar of sweeties was a lovely touch on the tea tray. Comfortable bed and loved the lift, old fashioned but it worked, great to have in the Hotel. Breakfast was really good as was the lovely staff. Will go back.again as it has been decorated in most places and looks so lovely outside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything met our expectations and all the staff were very professional and friendly.
- Jim (8/5): Okay for 2 nights - The room was comfortable but carpet and furniture needed a good clean to remove dirty marks, the shower was over the bath and it was difficult to climb into and it was also very hard to control the temperature.
- Anne (8/5): - Lovely Victorian hotel recently refurbished but in keeping with the architecture. We were upgraded to a fabulous room. Excellent value for money. Food in restaurant very good
- Amanda (10/5): - Beautiful hotel! We were a bit worried when arriving with our 2 year old that it might not be child friendly as it was clearly a beautiful building, but the staff were absolutely lovely with her and very happy to provide what we needed. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back. Highly recommended.
- Susanne (8/5): - Beautiful old building with huge rooms. Unfortunately there was an issue with the heating but or oom was still warm. Shower in our room was pretty old and wasnt very powerful but the room more than made up for it! Our daughter loved the sweets in the room!
- Christine (10/5): Lovely Stay. - Our room was really big with a huge bathroom. Thick curtains, cosy duvet, warm fluffy towels and plush loo paper. What more could anyone want?? Restaurant was nicely decorated. Food was great. My husband said it was the best steak he's ever had. They also sent out a dish with Happy Anniversary written on it with macaroons and strawberries. Such a lovely gesture.
- john (10/5): Thank you tor na coille - This was a great historic spot close to town and great service. Id stay here again in a second
- Pauline (8/5): - Apart from the shower part being broken & a dirty towel being left in the room it’s a lovely hotel lovely staff - although when having meal staff kept getting things wrong, ie we were asked 3 times if we wanted dessert! It did not spoil our time, food was amazing as was decor, would def come back
- John (8/5): - Good food and service
Great room except very poor shower facilities
Small compensation for no hot water was inadequate
Bathrooms need upgrades
- John (10/5): Scottish tour. - Two nights holiday trip.
Excellent room, all necessary facilities, serviced daily.
All staff very friendly and available.
Food menus good, specials choice daily.
- Renee (10/5): - Giant suite with big windows and lots of sun. Plenty of comfortable common areas and walks on property. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The staff was very helpful.
- Clare (10/5): - Our second stay here and really good. Very nice big room overlooking the trees and grounds at the front of the hotel. We had a drink in the gardens as such a hot evening which was very nice with lots of tables and soft furnishings. We didn't eat in the restaurant but did have breakfast which was very nice. Staff very nice and friendly.Thank you
- Gordon (2/5): Totally disappointed guest, never to return. - Nothing short of a Fawlty Towers. The hotel needs major money spent on it to bring it up to a decent standard. They are basically trying to operate on the cheap with many untrained staff, but at the same time charging prices on accommodation, food and drink at really high prices.
I have stayed in many hotels in my time and I would rank this one as one of the worst hotels that I have had the unpleasant experience to stay in. Don’t go near it.
- Mark (10/5): Couples break - We had a great birthday stay for two couples. Charlie Chaplin room was fabulous and evening meal was great.
- Gareth (10/5): - Very friendly staff with great service
- Ian (8/5): - Staff very helpful. Location was good. Only complaint was the lack of hot water.
- Pamela (8/5): Lovely stay - Hotel was very clean and our room was small but comfortable! A lot of modernisation done in the decorating!
- darren (8/5): - the staff was very helpful,friendly
- Brian (8/5): - Out 2nd stay at the hotel, we returned as our first visit was excellent, however, they have now changed the breakfast service from a cooked to order, to a buffet, which we feel let down the quality of service.
- Neil (10/5): Grreat stay - An excellent welcome at reception on arrival, beautiful building. Our room was spacious and at the top front of the building so had a lovely view. Yes, the paintwork is in need of a freshen up in some areas but couldnt fault the cleanliness. The staff were very professional and helpful. The diining room, bar and lounge areas had been more recently decorated. Food was excellent but not cheap. The large garden was ideal to sit with a drink during the warm weather Location to town centre was great. I would definitely stay here again.
- Dawn Carol (10/5): - This was a beautiful property with attentive and hospitable staff. The restaurant dinner food was delicious (breakfast was just okay). Staff also went out of their way to wash a load of clothes for us and only charged a minimal fee.
- Rosie (10/5): - Lovely area, room and the food was yummy
- Stephen (8/5): Decent hotel. Very nice staff. - The hotel is nice and reasonably well maintained. I found the decor a bit dated for my taste. I ate dinner one night and it was very nice. Breakfast was decent. All the hotel staff were excellent.
- Audrey (10/5): Lovely boutique hotel - Just back from a wonderful weekend break at Tor Na Coille. Lovely large room, very comfortable. Everything was thought off, bathrobes, a good hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
I loved the decor in the public rooms. Very tastefully done.
The food was amazing we ending up having dinner here both nights. Breakfast was also great. Plenty choice and all cooked fresh to order.
All staff were very friendly and nothing was a bother. A special mention to the young bar man and the lovely receptionist. She went above an beyond.
We will definitely come back.
- David (10/5): - Lovely hotel, very convenient to town centre and exceptionally friendly service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - Great hotel with really nice public areas and exceptional food. The staff were welcoming & friendly too. The only draw back was the shower was really bad.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great - Everything was very nice
- John (10/5): - Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
- F H (8/5): - Excellent food and seriously good service
- Peter (10/5): - We had a fantastic stay at the Tor Na Coille
Beautifully decorated, very peaceful,spacious rooms
We didn’t eat in the evening, unfortunately one us was not very well, however witnessing how busy the restaurant in the evening was told its own story.
We did have breakfast which was very tasty and well presented by two very cheery and attending members of staff.
Check in was completed in less than two minutes
We will stay here again
- James (10/5): - It was a nice break with helpful staff
- Rolf (10/5): - Excellent food!
- Kaye (10/5): - The staff went above and beyond when I left my wash bag behind as they sent it in to me at another hotel on our trip
Thank you!
- jim (10/5): - The hotel is quiet, comfortable and within a short distance from our home. Will recommend to our friends.
- Alan (8/5): - Situation very good, cleanliness & friendly staff. Outside area a bit untidy.
- Alison (6/5): - The staff were professional and diligent and the room was clean but too hot..
The food was well presented and varied and tasty enough but not adventurous.
- Douglas (6/5): - Dinner was v good. Perhaps too many add Ons at extra cost.
Room comfortable. The outdated furniture needs renewing. As it did when we last visited 35 years ago!
- Paula (8/5): Character but needs some love and attention - Great character, needs some love and attention. Loads of cobwebs in room and en-suite. Nice bed linen. Staff were lovely.
- David E. (10/5): - A historical victorian hotel. Breakfast and dinner were wonderful. In some of the rooms are beautiful antique furniture. If you like visiting castles, there are many near. History everywhere.
- Kenneth (8/5): - Staff could not be more helpful and efficient, lovely spacious room, nice and clean linen but the bed was too soft, (everyones likes are different). We will go back.
- Simon (8/5): - Very friendly, lovely grand old house but in need of renovation. Great food and very helpful, friendly staff.
- A (10/5): We will return to this excellent hotel. - We were in room four which was huge. Double shower, double sinks in the bathroom, a dressing area and a separate bedroom with sofa chair desk and coffee table. WiFi was good and Freeview TV included. Breakfast was a combination of continental and cooked. Restaurant menu featured some excellent dishes and fish in the various forms offered was a highlight (3 dishes per night) Sweets were delicious and every hot meal served on a hot plate. Nothing too much for staff who were friendly attentive and knowledgeable.
- WILLIAM (8/5): - Staff were brilliant. Food excellent but the 3 flights of stairs a. bit tiring for us over 70,s
- Kristine (10/5): - Our room was very spacious and we especially appreciated the fan since the weather was so hot. Everything was very clean and dinner was excellent as was breakfast next morning. Our king bed was quite comfortable and we very much enjoyed our stay, in part due to the friendly staff. It was a pleasure and we would recommend Tor Ana Coille to other travelers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Only average - The hotel was a little tired, both in the public areas and bedroom but overall the staff were polite and friendly, the food good and the price reasonable.
- Robert (10/5): A Very enjoyable Stay - Very enjoyable short stay with both the Reception Staff and The Hotel Staff really making us very welcome - Thank you for such an enjoyable stay and will definitely return
- Willam Fatt Leong (10/5): - Everything good, warm and cosy place.
- J (6/5): - 2 inch hot pipe running around the room making it way to hot, had all windows open
Also unmanned reception waited/searched for member of staff added extra 15mins to day
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel in a lovely location - Lovely hotel with super friendly staff at a very reasonable price. We will be looking to come back abother time
- Sean (8/5): Weekend break - Hotel and staff very good. Hotel is looking dated in places and needs freshened up but staff were friendly and restaurant (both breakfast and dinner) was excellent. Enjoyed our weekend stay and would be happy to return
- David (10/5): Very nice hotel with excellent breakfast. - Really nice hotel. Could probably do with a refurb soon but everthing is repaired and working and looks good. The service at the bar/restaurant was really good. The cooked breakfast was really well cooked with the best poached eggs I've ever had.
- Robert (10/5): Perfect hotel - Another fabulous stay at the Tor NaCoille hotel. Lovely welcome, friendly attentive staff, and great food. Upgraded to a super room, will always stay here when in the area.
- Alistair (8/5): - We always stay at Tor Na Coille if we are in the area as it is a well-run traditional hotel with friendly staff. The food is exceptional.
- Mindy (10/5): - Luxurious hotel with a bed and breakfast feel. The restaurant is quite lovely and the food is top notch. The staff are friendly and helpful. I’d love to stay here again!
- Elaine (8/5): - The hotel was in a great location , close to the village and the dining and front desk staff were great :)
Thank you !
- paul (10/5): Little Gem in Scotland - Lovely place, stunning, great gym and food lovely
- Losco (10/5): - The hotel was a pleasure to stay at , the staff were so lovely, the rooms were outstanding, we were well looked after and the food was fantastic, Thankyou everyone xx
- Pieter (8/5): - Location and park environment
- Stephanie (6/5): Expensive and shabby - Overpriced for a very average and dated hotel. Needs a massive refurbishment.
Food was very good however.
- Malcolm (10/5): - Excellent food, beautiful surroundings. Will definitely stay again soon.
- Paul (4/5): - Booking in took over a hour. Then was told gym was closed when originally told open, one reason I stayed here. Evening meal wasn’t shown about or asked for drink etc
- STEPHEN (10/5): Lovely Stay - Recommended - Friendly and efficient staff.
Restaurant food was exceptional
Definitely recommended
- David (10/5): Short getaway. - The hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a very comfortable room and bed. Dinner and breakfast were also excellent as were the staff.
- Alan (10/5): Business trip - Business trip to the area. Hotel is really good. The bathroom was modern but the toom a little dated. Didn’t impact on my stay. The room was immaculate. Restaurant was fabulous great food and service.
- margaret (10/5): Great Deeside hospitality. - A "Christmas" treat well worth the wait...offering a select menu to a first class standard served by friendly and knowledgeable staff making us feel very welcome Set in a beautiful area with the choice to explore amazing Deeside. Thanks to all for a lovely stay.
- Amanda (10/5): - Lovely Hotel Beautiful Food :)
- Jacqui (10/5): Tranquil - Beautiful location, traditional hotel and beautiful restaurant
- Evan (8/5): Lovely overnight stop. - Lovely location and extremely pleasant and friendly staff.
Our room was spacious and comfortable with all the facilities we needed. The menu for dinner and breakfast was not extensive but did offer sufficient choice and the quality of food served was very good.
It would be a great location in the summer for a few days.
- Colin (8/5): Average accommodation for high price - Hotel is an old building and everywhere you go is creaking floorboards. The room wasn’t huge and not helped by very large old dark furniture and was absolutely roasting as the feeder pipes to the radiator were so hot you could barely touch even though radiator was at lowest setting. Bathroom was surprisingly large and more modern.
- Norman (10/5): Excellent choice of hotel - Everything was just great from check- in to check out. Room was very spacious comfortable and nicely furnished The adjoining bathroom was also very clean spacious and warm.
The food in the restaurant was excellent- quite a small menu but everything is done very well.
We really enjoyed our stay.
- C (8/5): Great food, poor furnishings - Lovely hotel set in its own grounds, however the condition and furnishings in our room were below par. Food was excellent and the location was very peaceful.
- JEFF (8/5): - No thanks
- Andrew (10/5): - It is a very nice Hotel with lovely staff Had no issues
- Joyce (10/5): - Very clean and well equipped room. Friendly welcome. Great service in restaurant and excellent food.
- Elaine (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful. Stay overall was very pleasant. Hotel clean and decor fresh. Restaurant menu a bit disappointing. More like good pub food rather than a four star hotel.
- Morag (8/5): Nice but better places to stay. - We had an enjoyable stay at the Tor Na Coille Hotel, the staff were attentive and the restaurant and lounge area were comfortable. The food was good but nothing exciting. The bedroom we had was very disappointing, tired, drab and shabby although it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Such a beautiful building in a lovely setting it was a shame about the room. Probably wouldn't return sadly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were all excellent and should be commended, particularly Karen who served us most days at breakfast.
- Ed (8/5): - Upgraded to a superior room. Large and comfortable, with a very good and modern bathroom and a huge double bed. Although the building was quite old it was well maintained. We enjoyed a good nights sleep. The only slight negative was the dinner menu had few veggie options.
- Susan (10/5): - Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Food delicious. Lovely grounds.
- Ian (10/5): Don't drive past this one. - One of the most relaxing few days we have had. The hotel was a perfect fit for us - big enough but not too large to feel impersonal. Staff were managing the Covid regulations well and still keeping the distance but engaging in conversation as well. Lots of seating areas in the lounge looking out on the trees while staff always ready to see to any refreshments. Food was great and efficient service always. Lift was under maintenance but it didn’t spoil our experience. Would love to come back again.
- ALISTAIR N (8/5): We would return here. - Over-all we were very happy with the hotel, and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Our en-suite was the only thing that let down the hotel. It was very cramped and one's head was in the towel rail while sitting on the wc! The basin light did not work and there was no place to put soap or shampoo in the shower which had no water pressure to speak of. This was a minor matter for a one night stay and we enjoyed everything else. We would certainly stay here again.
- Angela (8/5): Friendly staff. Good food and location - Friendly check in and out. Nice garden and other outdoor seating. Great breakfast and excellent service. Dinner was good lots of choice. Wine a bit expensive. Decor in public areas good.
Easy flat 7 minute walk to Banchory,
- Alison (8/5): Disappointing two night stay. - Two night stay to visit family. Breakfast the first morning was very disappointing. The bacon was hard as a board. The fresh fruit salad was almost exclusively melon. The breakfast on the second day was much fresher.
Our room was a generous size but had not been cleaned higher than head height (accumulated fluff etc). There was a used face mask on the floor behind the heater which suggests objects weren’t moved for cleaning.
Tea and coffee and shortbread lasted one day. It would have been thoughtful to leave two days worth as that is what we booked.
We stayed here three years ago and the rooms we had then seemed less run down.
