Guest Reviews
- A.T. (8/5): - ok
- Martin (8/5): - Schönes Hotel mit freundlichen Mitarbeitern.
Kleine Negativpunkte:
- Michaelyn (10/5): - It was hard to make sure I was at the correct location because the Hotel sign is just a poster on the store front window. Once inside, the staff was helpful, and the room was very nice and comfortable. The location is very walkable to the main square and events I attended.
- Horst (10/5): Ein wirklich umweltfreundliches Hotel - Sehr freundlicher Check-in. Kulante Parkplatzregelung.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sehr aufmerksames Personal.
Aamiainen 100% luomua. Poikkeuksellisen ystävällinen palvelu!
- Rene (10/5): - An AMAZING hotel with awesome staff and convenient to walking around town. Parking is great right around the corner. They have an amazing bio breakfast at a GREAT price. This is a family run hotel for over 50 year and they are super friendly! We highly recommend!!!!
- Stephen (10/5): - Wonderful staff, clean, comfortable room with an excellent location between Hauptbahnhof and Marktplatz, very walkable area with many options for dining etc
- Paul (10/5): - Great modern style room, and healthy, very teasty breakfast options and one is quickly in the center of the town. Highly recommended.
- Floris (10/5): Nice & friendly hotel - Friendly hotel in the middle of town with a nice view of the church.
- Jenae (10/5): - Quiet and safe area. I arranged a late check in and the front desk staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Mats (10/5): Pleasant hotel - Very pleasant stay, big room, nice comfortable bed, balcony with a view of the nearby church. Clean.
Lekker ontbijt. Prijs/kwaliteit zeer goed.
- mark (8/5): nice place - only problem with the hotel is it is just opposite a church so expect to wake up at 08:00 sharp :-)
- Orlando (10/5): Nicely located hotel. - For the price, this was a nice hotel on a nice location. Less than a 5 minute walk to the city. Nice shops around. Awesome Japanese restaurant next door, European breakfast buffet, and nice staff who helped us out with sites in the city. Will stay again.
- Gabor (10/5): - Everything was perfect. Very nice location. Modern stylish interrieur. Helpfull staff. Good breakfast. Forthe price i paid was exellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hartje centrum!
- Peter (10/5): - alles super, modern, kreativ
- Thomas (10/5): One night in Saarbrücken - Kleines Garni Hotel, Zimmer klein aber sehr funktionell eingerichtet. Praktische Nasszelle. Trotz Citylage recht ruhig.
- Joerg (10/5): Recommended - Clean hotel, nice rooms, delicious breakfast and really polite employees
- jukkar547 (8/5): Good location & friendly staff - Hotel Madeleine is near the old town and a big public parking area. Parking is quite expensive though, 16€ even if it’s not a garage. Breakfast was ok, not more but adequate. The room facing the backyard was quiet and clean.
- Fredrik Ferdinand (6/5): - Ett helt greit hotell, litt slitent rom. Frokosten hadde sett sine beste dager, seigt brød.
- sharonmegm (6/5): Nice basic hotel but no bycicles - Hotel is clean and basic, nothing fancy but we got good nights of sleep during our 4 day stay. The church outside can be very noisy (bells ringing). The breakfast consists of a few varieties of German bread with jams, some cereals, yogurt and many types of tea. The coffee is very weak. By the 3rd day we didn't bother with breakfast in the hotel as we got fed up of the bread.
Friendly staff and they are happy to try and help. Shame they have lots of bicycles in the hotel but they haven't got insurance so they won't let you borrow them. We really wanted to cycle along the river Saar and there's practically no way of hiring a bike in Saarbrucken as we've tried. Next year we will have to choose a hotel down the road that has bikes for us to use.
- Rachelle (4/5): - The hotel room was very small and the heater barley worked. We would've been okay with all of this, but shortly after our check in an employee walked in on us, very uncomfortable.
- 395maireadk (10/5): A great stay! - I spent a two nights here - the staff were very friendly, the room clean and bright, compact but with good storage space and a very comfortable bed. It’s really well situated between the Hbf, shopping and nightlife (maximum ten mins walk). It was a really stellar breakfast offering and it’s great to have it included. Only snag point is the oddly narrow shower curtain.
- Paul (10/5): Clean, well-run place with a friendly staff - A very pleasant, simple hotel. Clean, well-run with a friendly staff. The included breakfast was very good, with many options... lots of different types of muesli, fresh fruits, organic yogurt and milk, plus loads of sliced cheeses, meats and healthy breads. You can order espresso drinks or choose the house coffee. Only complaints were the tiny shower curtain in the shower. The single bed comes with one pillow. I asked for an additional one and they had to take it from another room that wasn't being used. Maybe 2 or more pillows is an American thing.
- Nigel (10/5): Great place to stay in Saarbrucken - Very central location, good breakfast, staff very helpful
- Stephen (6/5): Typical Hotel Room - Average 3-star hotel as advertised, nothing exceptional but in a good location. Room was a bit too warm in July without A/C or a fan.
- stefanom8 (6/5): Quiet, convenient, central - A simple hotel in a nice little street three minutes from the central squares and the river Saar. A covered car park nearby, clean room with all the necessary, good value for money. Nothing else, but ok.
- KissLaci (8/5): Nince night in Saarbrücken - Very friendly staff, very good location for a good price.
We got a spacious nice room on high floor with balcony with view of the roof of the church next to the building.
The building itself is outdated, inside some parts are outdated, but important parts renovated, only some of them looked strange.
The breakfast was nice but limited.
- LunitaLoca (8/5): Nice and clean. Excelent 24/7 service. - Great hotel - but one thing was a little annoying; Just recently the Church just opposite the hotel had started a new rutine ringing the bell each 15 minutes. Not our favorite as we went to bed very late and tried to sleep in the morning. Hopefully this rutine is temporarily.
- Arapahoetravel (4/5): Bad experience. Felt like discrimination. Nice breakfast, however. - I am American and my husband is Austrian and we stayed here for a few days to look for an apartment in Saarbrücken. I made the reservation in English I will get back to this point later.
Our train arrived late and brought our bikes. The guy at reception that evening was really nice. He helped us bring our bikes in and brought them downstairs to keep them safe. After that evening we never saw him again, and the front desk service was horrid.
The room was clean. No complaints with breakfast or the service there.
For the rest of our stay the front desk staff acted like we did not belong and they were constantly checking if we had a room. Then, my husband needed to print something. He was told he would not be allowed to use a USB, he had to email them the document, and would take 3-5 hours to print and receive the email. He also asked since it was our last day if we needed to do anything else. He was told no, and apparently the guy acted like he did not want to talk to him. I went to ask about the document 20mins later. The email was printed but they had not informed us. I inquired as to why he was told this and I received no answer he stared at me and turned around saying nothing and completely ignored me. I could not get his attention again even though I kept trying to talk to him. My husband said that he felt the front desk was being cold to us because he is Austrian and that their conversation had undertones of this.
The next morning when we left there was no one at the desk and we waited because we wanted to return the key. Since the booking said I agreed to pay for the reservation with a credit card and in doing so I could not change anything I thought we just had to give back the key. It started to get a little late and our train was due to depart in 10 mins so as we were trying to leave a guy shows up and says we need to pay. I explain to him we are paid and I show him my copy (it said I agreed to pay and my card would be charged and that nothing was changeable). We go back and forth for a bit on this and I give up and hand him the card I made the booking with, you know the one that they said they would and could charge. Their machine could not take my card regardless of the fact that I made the booking with that card. I kept thinking they have that card, they said they can and will charge that card. I had to pay with a different one, which caused some huge travel problems later since the other card was reserved for paying for the hotel.
We barely made our train, we got on it as the whistle was blowing and the conductor shuffled us on out of niceness.
So, if you are Austrian or married to an Austrian don't bother staying here. If you have a magnetic visa card, don't stay here. And PS, you are not pre paid even though the online booking in English seems to say you are.
- giedre32 (8/5): A Cozy Stay - Excellent location, just in the heart of the old town. The rooms are spacious with wonderful views and very clean. The food is based on local cuisine, ecological herbs and natural fruit. The staff is extremely helpful and efficient, they make your stay perfect.
- Oparazzo (8/5): Clean hotel in the Nauwieser Viertel - The Madeleine ist located at the edge of Saarbrücken's (in)famous Nauwieser Viertel, with plenty of life and charm, but also with annoying crowds of drunken or otherwise incapacitated dropouts.
The room was very clean but also very small. Our 180x200cm twin beds filled it up almost completely (if you choose the french bed (140cm) it's probably easier to move around). But the beds were comfortable, with good, firm mattresses, and because the windows are practically sound proof we slept like logs.
The bathroom was very small too, especially the shower (70x80), with an clingy little shower curtain to boot. Here we missed a holder to put the soap dispenser on. What was also missing in the room was a possibility to make yourself some coffee - we both like a caffeine kick before we eventually get out of bed.
So, regarding all this, about 100€ per night would have been a bit stiff if the breakfast hadn't been included; This was surprisingly good, especially the fine selection of wholesome bread and rolls. There was even a vegan corner with some meat impersonators.
All in all the Madeleine is the right choice if you want to be in the middle of Saarbrücken's "nightlife" and if you, like us, need it only for sleeping and breakfast.
- ccgway (10/5): Should be more stars! - It might not have a lot of extra facilities, which is probably why Hotel Madeleine is only rated at 2 stars. However, the hotel is the cleanest hotel I've ever been in - the room, bathroom, breakfast room and reception were all spotless.
We only stayed for one night. The beds were comfy enough, there was a little bit of noise from a nearby bar but not enough to stop us getting to sleep.
The breakfast was really tasty. My girlfriend is Vegan and she had plenty of choice: breads, jams, spreads, cereals and fruits. The selection of tea was amazing as there are about 15 different herbal and green teas to choose from (plus normal breakfast tea).
Everything in the hotel is very bio/organic based, from the toiletries to the lights to the breakfast items.
The location seemed good with the tram passing just the other side of the church outside.
Overall an excellent experience at Hotel Madeleine and I wouldn't hesitate to return on my next visit to Saarbrucken!
- Davio1965 (10/5): Lovely hotel - Had a visit to Saarbrucken and found this lovely hotel in centre
Polite friendly staff great rooms at a reasonable rate great breakfast (included in price )
Ideal base for the sites and shops of Saarbrucken
Close for the bars and restaurants as well
- Mark_Daemen (6/5): Central location but rather small room - This hotel is in a central location. When you arrive you think it can be somewhat noisy because there is a central lane and a tram passing. This was not the case, we had a good night sleep. The communication with the hotel before we arrived was very clear. Arrival was correct. We asked for two rooms, a twin and a double and we got just that next to eachother which was convenient. The rooms are rather small which was ok for one night but for longer stays I would not recommend. The double bed was put against the wall so 1 person can only leave the bed by the foot during the night. Not really convenient. There is no real parking at the hotel. When lucky you can park in front of the hotel. Otherwise they recommend parking on nearby (150 m) Beethoven Platz. We payed 15 euro for this open air parking for 1 night parking. When adding this to the hotelprice, taking the surface of the room into account, I found the entire stay too expensive. Therefor an 'average' rather than 'very good'.
Staff, and certainly breakfast staff, is very friendly. They kept filling up the 'bio' breakfast buffet even if it was close to closing time (10 am). Our kids would have loved a croissant, as it was a sunday (not possible in bio-version?). It is a very airy room with nice furniture (as in the rooms).
- likeshiking28 (10/5): Loved this place -- beautiful mixture vintage 50's and modern style - Title says it all. Nice mixture of old and new. Super-clean.
When I stayed, there were also rental bikes for free. Breakfast was very good, staff polite and helpful.
Excellent value for money, and a place I really enjoyed staying at.
- roadrunner766 (10/5): Lovely hotel, very friendly staff - Stayed here two nights with my sister for a family funeral. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was a problem. The buzzing in through the front door didn't bother us. A jug of tea was always ready at the front desk along with apples and mini Dickmann's - yum! Room was adequate and clean, ensuite clean. Modern decor and very jazzy pink floor! Free wifi. Breakfast was fantastic. Lots of choice. Vegan options catered for too. Serving staff very friendly and attentive. Central location with short walk to train station. Good value for money. Have recommended it on.
- EKSAYERS (8/5): Well located for town centre - We arrived at 4 pm on Saturday and were able to park outside the hotel for free. The multi lingual staff were friendly and helpful. Our double room had 2 single beds pushed together which is common in Europe. Shower only bath that was not contained by the shower curtain!
Comfortable room, quiet and clean. Nice bio breakfast included in the rate. Breads, cheese, meats, eggs, cereals etc.
Good wifi.
- Stopeter44 (8/5): Honest Accomodation, Trying Hard & Succeeding - We really appreciated the simple clean decoration, the very well thought out bathrooms with spacious showers. We also appreciated the ecological thinking that went into the bathroom design, like the translucent (but not transparent) window between the bedroom and the bathrrom, means you don't have top turn a light on if you only wnat to wash yopur hand, etc. The bathrooms are very small, but the showers are spacious.
The breakfast was up to usual German standards, everything bio, too! Tasty and wholesome, loved it!
I would have given 5/5 but for one thing, and I'm sure that it wouldn't bother many visitors, especially those from the cold north ;-). We like to sleep in a darkened room to the point of almost no light, we couldn't acheive that with room we had. When we arrived we were allocated #55 which is probably the biggest room, but it was impossible to completely darken the room with the curtains, it had windows along the one wall, itw as a triple width room!
The only other room available was the #44 which they generally reserve for one person, there's no way to get around the bed (1m40 wide, they called this a French sized bed, didn't bother us, that's what we have at home), we preferred this to #55.
Another Tripadvisor contributer Kasparus (July 2013) complains about the hotels locked door policy, you have to ring to have the front dorr opened. I saw this as plus, he also felt that the little description on the breakfast food "excessive", once again, my opinion is 100% the contrary.
I say bravo to the management team!
- Kasparus (4/5): OVERRATED - Having read the fantastic reviews about this hotel, we had looked forward to staying here; however, it was rather a disappointment. On the plus side, the room was nice enough and included free wi-fi. However, apart from the bed, there was no place to sit (neither sofa nor chairs). What we hated most was that the hotel keeps its front door locked 24/7. So, you have to ring the doorbell to enter, have to wait for someone to come to the door (there was never anyone at reception), have to stand at the door while someone looks you up-and-down as if you are a criminal; then, hopefully, you look decent enough for the door to be opened; then, you have to give your name so that they can check if you are allowed in the hotel. We found this procedure very unpleasant, intrusive, indiscreet, and unexpected of a hotel of this price-range. If you are badly-dressed, looking a bit rough, or have any notion of inviting someone up to your room, you may want to think again. The hotel and reviews make much of the hotel’s organic breakfast. We found it to be very uncomfortable, formal, and pretentious. Every food item has a card which describes what it is and verifies its “organic” origin – even the salt and pepper on the table had a card with a description! This was simply too much. Overall, we would not recommend this hotel nor stay there again. There are better, less pretentious, more relaxing, and much cheaper options in the city.
- Aqua_Uomo (10/5): A litlle gem in Saarbrücken - Me and another 5 friends stayed there on April 4 2012.
What can I say, it shows a 2 star hotel at the entrance but let me tell you, I have been many places and usually a 2 star is a 2 star, but for this one in particular the stars do not make justice! It is impeccable, looks and must be new, it is extremely clean and modern throughout, starting from the rooms and all the way down to the dining area, very modern indeed.
Location is great, downtown, across the street from the Townhall and municipal parking, step to Obertoberstrase plaza and market, the place to shop and eat. Great location and priced accordingly, €78/ night plus €78 for what they call "Bio" breakfast...all "Organic" for the North Americans. Amazing food and variety. Tasty and plenty!
Fully recommended!
- ThatSemanticsGuy (8/5): Basic but comfortable, good location - I stayed at the Hotel Madeleine in March while attending a conference at the University. The hotel is basic, but comfortable, with a simple room, good shower, and a good breakfast with a focus on organic ingredients. The hotel staff were friendly, with no problems even with a quite late arrival. The location is close to the center, making it easy to walk to a number of good restaurants, but isn't really that close to the university (which, from what I could tell, is at the edge of town). Overall, a pleasant, but not particularly memorable, stay, with a good price to value ratio. Free wireless was a plus.
