- V.L. (9/5): - Heel laat geboekt en daardoor veel korting gekregen, niet het meest belangrijk maar wel lekker
- Stephen (7/5): -
- Carla (2/5): -
- Laurence (8/5): Very welcoming and attentive staff. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. A very good hotel experience. - Lovely traditional Manor House. Large ceramic bath in middle of floor difficult for older citizens. Bed very creaky but understandably in a traditional bedroom and house.
- Graeme (9/5): -
- Sean (3/5): Sadly very disappointed - The building Extremely slow service
45 mins for a starter
Limited staff seemed to be I'm the kitchen not in the restaurant area visible to customers

- Russ (7/5): Cool place, good value midweek, great for business stay overs, food decent but not amazing. - Old school vibes Food was ok, not amazing.
- Jean (9/5): Beautiful, quiet location - What a fantastic location- so quiet and relaxing. The room was spacious and bathroom had everything you need.
Food and drinks were good and reasonably priced.
The bar is a lovely place to sit and relax. There is also a room with a pool, or snooker table and other games.
We only saw 1 staff member in the evening- a lovely young lady who was the receptionist/waitress/bar staff. Despite being busy, she was very friendly and made time to have a chat.
The Hall is a popular wedding venue and the main hall set up for this and the grounds are lovely. The water in shower was a bit temperamental and not hot for long. The TV in bedroom could do with an update.
- Gabriel (10/5): -
- Belinda (10/5): Gorgeous country estate, great rooms and good food. Lovely staff. - It was a random choice as a stopover and how lucky were we! Gorgeous place, a lovely dinner and super breakfast. Nothing.
- Jose David (8/5): -
- Trevor (9/5): RELAXING AND ENJOYABLE - THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE HOTEL ARE BEAUTIFUL. WE ONLY STAYED ONE NIGHT AND THE ROOM EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS. LOVELY BREAKFAST WHICH SENT US HAPPILY ON OUR WAY. ONLY ONE SLIGHT NIGGLE WITH THE DOOR TO ROOM 8...FOR SOME REASON WHEN OTHER DOORS WERE CLOSED THE DOOR TO NUMBER 8 BANGED VERY LOUDLY. WE HAD TO WEDGE THE DOOR CLOSED AGAINST THE FRAME.
- Sharon (9/5): - Lovely period property
- Nigel (10/5): Like staying in a country house - Great location near the Carlisle racecourse
Unique country house ambience and great hall
Attractive garden and surroundings
Cosy games room No leisure facilities - gym, swimming pool

- Glynn (10/5): - Loved this place every single one of the staff were so friendly. Beautiful building with lovely grounds massive bedroom with an exceptional comfy massive bed. Canât fault the place would definitely return
- Hill (10/5): - The building and grounds were nice and it was peaceful
- John (9/5): - Good size room. Friendly staff. Found a lovely restaurant called the Crown Inn a Close d to honest with you we might pre-booking first yeah few miles away. Restaurant closed due to illness. Struggled to find somewhere to eat without pre booking first.
- Ross (10/5): Never a dull moment! - I got a free room upgrade and the breskfast top notch! Hmmmmm. I can't think of anything.
- Elaine (7/5): -
- Barry (9/5): - Location, history the building and the enthusiasm of the staff Nothing although given the location you have to go into town for dinner
- Irene (8/5): We enjoyed it and would go back again. - Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was nice and clean. There were no coathangers or hooks for hanging up clothes or coats.
- Nicolette (6/5): A stunning building but sadly food was not up to scratch. - A beautiful building! Sadly the food we ordered, steak pie, was way below standard-only 3 tiny prices of meat!
And breakfast was late, we were told from 0730 but didnât start until 8
- Stuart (8/5): Looking forward to a return stay when possible. - Always enjoy staying here. Great location. Quiet and peaceful. Staff ALL great. Room comfortable. Will definitely recommend and return. Was a little strange have breakfast in the wedding guest reception area(?).
- Martin (10/5): A characterful property with modern conveniences. - The character of the building, huge potential. I liked all aspects.
- Carmel (8/5): Not our best stay in a period property. - Picturesque period property about 5 mins from the centre of Carlisle.
Parking available. This property is primarily a wedding venue which does B & B at times. Breakfast and dinner served in the wedding function room which felt rather bare. There were only 4 tables to be served for breakfast each morning but service was painfully slow, at least a half hour wait for the cooked food.
On our second day laundry from one of the rooms was left on the corridor, and it was still there that night and the next morning!
I don't expect sheets or towels to be replaced daily, but I would like to have used mugs replaced by clean ones and tea bags, milk containers etc replenished daily.

- David (5/5): -
- Andy (6/5): -
- Danielle Vipond (6/5): Not going back - Great location for a nearby family wedding. Pleasant staff. Lovely grounds and comfy bed. No hot water for our 2 night stay
Had to ask 3 separate staff members for an ironing board
Buffet breakfast cold both mornings and greasy
Hard to find staff members anywhere in the building
Stains on the carpet in our room
Speaking to another couple whilst waiting for staff to appear at breakfast... They felt exactly the same as us.
When asking for a hairdryer I was told there weren't any as the previous ones broke a few weeks ago.
Such a shame as the venue and grounds have great potential!
- Amber (6/5): Beautiful surroundings, not the best experience - The views were breathtaking and the two staff members I had in the evening were exceptional. They helped me move rooms as I had no WiFi and couldnât do enough to help. Went to breakfast at 8:05 hardly anything left, no table set for new guests myself and another couple had to wait for clothes to be changed before sitting down. Only one lady working it seemed, no juices were offered. I left very hungryand thirsty. Then upon arriving to my room the shower was freezing and i had no hot water.
- Jade (9/5): Tranquil, pretty and great value for money - The place is very beautiful, really quiet and tucked away. Our room was great, everything was very authentic and vintage styled. the breakfast was nice. For the same price as a budget b&b in town to stay here was really a no brainer! The only issue we had was the bed, as pretty as it was and to be expected with it being so old, but it was reallyyyy creaky, to the point where if I rolled over in the night it woke me up every time. And the shower had next to no pressure, but to be expected with age.
- mark (9/5): Great place to stay & in a great area - The building was beautiful WiFi connection was non existent within room 2
- Terina (6/5): -
- Guest (9/5): -
- Julie (7/5): - Loved the building and the gardens. Very comfortable bed. Good cooked breakfast. Soap and shampoo in the room were both empty.
Drinks expensive.
- Anne (7/5): Could be a fabulous stay in a beautiful historic building if the service could be improved greatly! - Location, room, building , all very good and interesting Service was poor
- DAN (5/5): - The place is stunning We stayed 2 nites fri & sat the room was never cleaned or any clean towels I asked on the Saturday nite for 2 clean towels for the sun morning still none there was a wedding fair on the sat me & my girlfriend was put in a store room to have our meal what we paid separately for & waited 45mins for the starter on our pre ordered meal what they asked for at 5.30pm the starter came out at 8.50pm barring in mind the bar closed at 9pm beautiful place but we will not be staying again.
- Roderick (5/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Tim (8/5): - So quiet. Nothing
- Sally (10/5): would return - Everything was lovely - the breakfast was lovely nothing
- Ross (10/5): -
- phil (1/5): Disastrous - Tiny tv with distorted sound. Bar closed at 21:45 on a Saturday night. No ice available. No one serving at breakfast and no toast offered.
- Harrison (10/5): -
- Michelle (3/5): Donât be fooled by the description - Lovely building Windows didnât close properly and was a bit too far out of the way
- Joshua Max (6/5): Hotel and staff amazing- room very disappointing - Staff were amazing the duty manager and the general manager who was covering from another venu both outstanding. the public areas pristine, beautiful building with lots of history and in a beautiful location. We were there as a special occasion, the staff really looked after us evening meal was delicious breakfast too. Im in the industry and I acctually wanted to get married here and bringing my partner was me trying to convince them however sadly we left with them wanting to return even less.they said they wouldnt wish any of our guests to sleep in these bedrooms. I hope my feedback comes across as intended ( constructive) and not just as negative. Receptionist who served at breakfast could of been more attentive and breakfast took a while to come out. Knowing the CEO we had high hopes as she is well known for her signature style and outstanding interior design and pristine vision however the room was a huge disappointment, was in bad shape, carpet was multiple pieces stuck together and old, with lots of staining, bottom of the radiator was filthy , bottom of the wardrobe had thick dust and fluff and a piece of chewing gum all it takes is a wipe, windows were covered in cobwebs, room could do with a bit of a paint as the coving had some damage, a quick fix so a shame it wasn't done. Matress was disgusting and heavily stained. No toilet roll in the bathroom, luckily we had some in the car so just grabbed that rather than asking, no hand soap , the bottle next to sink was empty, had to climb into shower to get some.
- lee (1/5): - Nothing Everything, do not go ,filthy, rude manager over priced ,no Internet connection impossible to get reception, I've complained and asked for refund but they ignore you're emails, if you want no running cold water ,toilets that have never been cleaned ,no reception, bar filthy room filthy then book
- Simon (10/5): The staff were amzjngling helpful and I will definitely consider staying there agian -
- Elaine (10/5): -
- Denise (4/5): Friendly staff, good location for work, but would not stay here again, not worth the ÂŁ141 a night. - The staff were friendly and good location for work. No hot water, not good when you need to shower before going to work and room freezing. I had towels around my feet in the duvet to keep warm, however the room I stayed in was freezing cold, only bathroom radiator on low. I did report that I had cold water in shower to be told let the water run, this made no difference, I tried again in the morning, couldn't get in to cold. I could not report this as no-one was on reception when I left at 7.15am. I would not stay here again. Bedroom carpet was full of stains.
- Alicia (8/5): Lovely stay đ - Warm welcome and the room was spacious, clean and with good tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets. The bathroom was very good with a great shower. Breakfast buffet was adequate but lack of staff to ask for replenishments and no fresh tea or coffee served, just from a tea bag and flask of hot water. It was very much help yourself.
- JON (8/5): Great - We recently stayed at Dalston Hall for two nights and had a lovely experience. Itâs a beautiful historic building with lots of character and a great atmosphere.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was warm and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent.
The bar area is particularly nice with a large open fireplace. When it was lit it created a really cosy and relaxing feel. It would be great if the fire was lit more often as it really adds to the ambience.
Overall we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return. Highly recommended. We recently stayed at Dalston Hall for two nights and had a lovely experience. Itâs a beautiful historic building with lots of character and a great atmosphere.

- Stuart (1/5): Possible the worst experience with accommodation i have ever had. - Location Had not been cleaned since the last booking and the bed sheets were soiled which resulted in us having to leave immediately.
- Paul (2/5): - Size of the rooms, breakfast was reasonable Staff were not very helpful when we reported to them that the water was only luke warm, every corner of the bathroom of our first room had cobwebs, moved to the 2nd room still luke warm water the room was very tired, waited a long time for bar staff to run up and serve our drinks
- Karen (8/5): Lovely staff, great room and exceptionally comfortable bed with a good dinner. - Beautiful building and friendly staff More geared towards wedding venue now
- mark (10/5): Great place and a lovely breakfast - Fabulous building
- Michael (6/5): Funeral - Location Everything else
- Gavin (8/5): - Rooms were functional and had everything reqd. No Coathangers in cupboards
TV was dated, no up to date (smart) functioning.
Cobwebs around ceilings and bathroom.
No opening windows in room.
Window in bathroom didn't close ir open properly.
- Lewis (10/5): -
- William (8/5): Lovely old building - The building itself has loads of history so it was an honour to be able to be a very small part of its history by staying for a night there, the staff were lovely, Cobwebs aplenty, couple of bits of damage here and there in the room, carpet a little stained and the pillows ruined my neck but thatâs me just being honest and picky, it was still worth every penny to stay,
- MARLENE (9/5): A pleasant and quirky stay. Would do it again. - A beautiful building. The room was really comfortable, comfortable bed and pillows and plushy duvet. The bed and furniture were all clean. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Good quality ingredients đđ Our room wasnât vacuumed after last use as there were sequins and Kirby grips on the floor. It may have just been used as a dressing room but should have been cleaned.
The bath panel had seen better days with a hole in the top which spoiled the look of the gorgeous bathroom. The quality is excellent, but a little finesse would go a long way.
- Jamie (10/5): Dalston Hall 5* - Staff were friendly and very helpful. They went above and beyond for us, especially the person working the night shift (didn't catch their name). Room was a good size, comfortable and clean wish I'd asked where they got their pillows!!. Would certainly return when we are in the area again. Breakfast was beautifully cooked, with a choice of croissant and cereal but didn't eat them due to enjoying my cooked breakfast so much. Bath had a jacuzzi/ bubble function but didn't use it, certainly will next time. Also a beautiful hall to look at inside and out. Looks like it would be a perfect wedding venue. The inside is very well maintained and looks excellent, looks like they kept all the amazing original features of the hall whilst implementing modern and welcoming rooms. The grounds of the building were also very nice to walk around. I imagine in summer will be even better. The price was also very good. Thank you to all the staff for giving us a great stay.
- Robin (4/5): Disappointing room. Did not meet expectations - The location, look of the downstairs area, decorations, and overall building itself was lovely. It is extremely quiet outside and this was a great experience in the morning and throughout the night The room was very lifeless compared to the reception area. The furniture and bed was lovely but the overall atmosphere of the room felt like it was lacking. The toilet was not flushed when I arrived and had urine inside. There was no shampoo or body wash in the shower. There were 2 mattresses pushed together so I kept falling into the gap. For the reputation and look of this venue on the website I was expecting better quality of the room. Hence the disappointment. I work in hotels/hospitality and this was not what I expected, especially for this type of venue
- Joanne (8/5): - Such a beautiful location.
The interior is is decorated beautifully to reflect the age of the Hall.
The bar was great, would have been nice to have the open fire alight.
The young lady keeping everything running was very welcoming. Bedrooms are on the small side, the TV didn't have a remote.
- Michael (3/5): Funeral - Location My room hadnât been cleaned. Dusty furniture and dead insects all over the room, even in the kettle and on the bed. No tv controls. One member of staff on duty to fill every role single handed. Reception, bar, food orders, preparation, cooking and serving.
- Nikola (7/5): A beautiful building, Pippa was amazing g she was reception, TV engineeer, chef, waitress and barmaid. Incredible lady.t - Beautiful old building The room allocated to me initially was freezing cold and the tv didnât work.
- Mark (4/5): Disappointing - Lovely old period property, good it had a bar, but the issues far out weigh the positives. Water took an age to heat up in the shower, cleanliness of the bathroom was dubious, room cold (oil heater was provided) staff seemed indifferent, to go anywhere you really need to drive as walked into Dalton for a meal and there was no foot path for 500 meters so at the mercy to traffic.
- Pam (6/5): A mixed bag, would I return yes but ask for a room away from other guests - The building is amazing lots of historyâŚ
Dinner was superb in the dining room. The walls are rather thin, i was in 105, my neighbours in 106 were like rabbits all night I could hear everything đ
There was also a drip from my ceiling which Iâm sure they will fix now..

- Kim (1/5): Hotel cancelled stay without advising. BEWARE - Nothing We booked the hotel overnight stay in April 2025 and was confirmed for the September 11-12th stay. We received another confirmation 3 days prior to our stay to say that there would be no lunch or dinner available during our stay as the restuarant was closed. They went on to give as local eating options in pubs. After driving down from Inverness via the Highlands, exhaused we saw there was a wedding going on. We were advised by their duty manager, Carl Dixon, that they had cancelled our booking two days before our stay and was now full due to the wedding. Carl blamed booking.com for not telling us of the cancellation.
He then said that we would have to look for somewhere else to stay as we stood in reception at 21.30hrs. There is a 2 star Ibis hotel 10 minutes away and they have rooms available he explained.
So basically, BEWARE if you book, your confirmation may not mean anything.
- JULIE (8/5): A short stay in history - Superb inside and staff pleasant Think the extended grounds could be really developed
- Andrew (8/5): Was very good value and comfortable - Room n breakfast were awesome.Grounds were nice and friendly staff Got told at 4pm when we arrived no kitchen that night
- Katie (1/5): Awful! Dirty, smells bad and rude, unhelpful staff! - We didnât stay at the hotel it was so bad we left!
My husband & I arrived early as we were attending a wedding nearby. We wanted to leave a mall suitcase there and quickly get changed. I asked the staff on arrival if I could do so and a girl on reception shook her head and said no weâre busy. I asked if I could leave my bag she said no. I also asked if there was at least a plug I could use for a short while, again she said no. She was abrupt and made no effort to try and help at all.
I ended up changing in the toilet I went and found on the property myself, which had a plug inside so I used that.
We carried our case back to the cat and went to the wedding. On the way out the staff said we canât check in until after 5pm.
We donât arrive back at the property until late (after the wedding). Arriving back at the hotel, the room we had been assigned was awful. It was dirty, the carpet had hairs all over, the bathroom was dirty and there was a big bag of rubbish from someone else in the room. It was clear it had not been cleaned.
Rather than stay in this dirty room, my husband and I drove through the night to get home, taking occasional naps at service stations for safety reasons.
It was the worst experience and I would advise to avoid this property!

- Michael (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- helen (8/5): - The staff where very accommodating nothing was too much trouble.
- Jack (9/5): -
- lyn (7/5): Unique Place to Stay - Beautiful setting. Individual styles in each room. Evening meal was available if required. Only small oil heater in the bedroom and water was cool for a shower.
- Karen (8/5): -
- Stephey (9/5): -
- Penny (5/5): The history of the house is interesting and celebrated, reception staff were lovely, house is clean and warm but it need - We stayed here as b&b guests for one evening. Itâs primarily a wedding venue and for that Iâm sure it is very nice. The grounds look pretty and the building itself is full of history. The Christmas bow and wreath on the huge front door was a lovely touch. The receptionist was very good, friendly and helpful. The central heating in the house works well. Food for dinner was simple but well cooked. The bar area could be made so much more welcoming - there was a big fireplace but in a very cold evening in December it wasnât lit, not even prepared to be lit. To be fair the room was warm (central heating) but an empty fireplace gives a cold, unloved feel to a room. A log fire would have been a really welcoming touch. The sofas were in keeping but didnât have scatter cushions and the lighting needed to be softer (it was very flat) and from multiple sources e.g. corner and table lamps.
The restaurant/breakfast room - please, please do something here. It is very stark. Needs some occasional chairs/plants/lamps in the corners, maybe mirrors on the wall or something. It could be made a much nicer space to sit in with minimal cost.
- Stronach (8/5): - Vegetarian Wellington A few scuffs and spills in the room on the carpet. A bit of a wait for breakfast. No bathtub in bathroom.
- Benjamin (5/5): Beautiful building let down by small things. - The building is beautiful and the staff were fantastic despite being very under manned The room, especially the bathroom, wasn't very clean. My partner refused to use the bath because of this. Neither the window in the bathroom nor the bedroom shut fully, and the bar was ridiculously overpriced. I really wanted to like this place as the building is stunning and very much worth seeing. A tiny bit more care and attention is all that is needed.
- Clare (7/5): Details! - Building
Comfy beds No hangers
Small tea cups
No glasses
No information re breakfast etc in the roo.
Breakfast on day one was a bit hit and miss, no menu, lack of plates...second day was much better
Breakfast room was very underwhelming...could be made much more of
We did like our stay but there were little details that wouldn't take much to implement and would really elevate it.
- Kevin (9/5): -
- Jordan (8/5): Was a fine place to stay for a short stay, looks like itâs a beautiful wedding venue. - Beautiful building and lovely staff. We had little to no wifi connection and the tvs in the room didnât work.
- john (5/5): We wouldnât return especially although bed was very comfortable and staff very friendly despite lack - We had to move rooms as no cold tap in bathroom to give dog water no remote control and teaspoons new room was much better staff very friendly very apologetic food menu wasnât inspiring very basic they encouraged us to eat elsewhere!!! General investment in a lovely property which has been run down need refurbishment generally but this reflected on the cost and backwater location we were on the way to Scotland for Xmas
