Guest Reviews
- Elena (9/5): Lodge più economico che ho trovato per soggiornare all'interno di un parco - Lodge molto bello all'interno dello Tsavo con piscina e palestra.
Personale gentile e disponibile.
Cottage molto spazioso, romantico e accogliente.
Es roch etwas nach WC ... Entlüftung?
- DAVIDE (2/5): A disappointing and questionable experience - What I appreciated about the property was the surrounding natural environment, as well as the reception area and the swimming pool, which are pleasant and well maintained. I stayed at Severin Safari Camp during the Christmas week. The camp itself is welcoming and well maintained, especially in the reception area. Unfortunately, my overall experience was negatively affected by extremely poor reception staff management.
We had two apartments located about 1 km from the reception. Because the camp is in the middle of the savannah, guests are required to be escorted by jeep when moving between the reception area and the rooms. This was a significant limitation, as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the swimming pool are all located near the reception, making guests completely dependent on hotel transportation.
After an 8-hour safari (which is understandably exhausting), we returned to the reception, had lunch, and then waited almost an hour to be taken back to our apartments. The most serious issue is that the hotel transport never arrived, despite repeated and false assurances from the receptionist.
After nearly an hour of waiting, the receptionist handed me her phone, which was ringing. To my great surprise, the caller was our safari guide—the same guide who had been with us all day and who was privately paid by us, completely independent from the hotel. He explained that the receptionist had forced him to interrupt his rest and come pick us up from reception.
Both the guide and I strongly protested this unacceptable situation. It later emerged—according to another staff member who had worked the previous shift—that all the hotel vehicles were occupied serving the hotel director, who was building a large private villa next to the resort.
I am honestly speechless. After what we paid, my family—including two young children—was left waiting for over an hour, without assistance, after a long safari day, simply to prioritize the personal convenience of the hotel director.
This level of service is unacceptable for a resort of this standard.
- Rolf (10/5): Droomlocatie midden in safaripark.
- Donna (10/5): Stunning, best place we stayed on safari - Absolutely stunning. The tents were amazing, seemed very new and clean and the bathrooms outstanding. Pool and gym were just fantastic. The bar and restaurant area were also just stunning Nothing
- Hannah (10/5): Super value, so pleased to find a self catering safari option! - Quiet, remote, lovely pool, very authentic safari feel, bandas were great value for money. Helpful staff with directions and quickly fixing a problem in our room. Didn’t try the food. Would definitely come again! Nothing!

- Judith (7/5): Bandas great. Don’t eat at the lodge! - Kitani Bandas were great. The food was overpriced and very poor quality
- Robin (9/5): Travelled with two children, excellent stay and we didn't want to leave. Keep up the great work. - Fantastic location, very friendly and helpful staff. The outlook on the restaurant is brilliant with the watering holes close by, saw a lot of animals drinking there over our stay. Pool/spa if great and ticks the box. Self catering is 5 min drive from main lodge. Food was good and birthday celebration was excellent for our 7 year old. The 4 course set menu. We didn't always want to eat 4 courses. Recommend to have a one or two course available.
- Astou D. (10/5): - Franchement, expérience incroyable, best stay ever
- Britta (10/5): Amazing camp in the middle of wildlife - Amazing Camp in the middle of Tsavo West.
All the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Our lodge was very clean, spacious and cozy.
The bed had a good and clean mosquito net and the matress was super comfortable.
Our terrace was right in front of a small water hole were we saw loads of animals like antilopes, zebras, monkeys, flocks of birds and even a crocodile.
At dinner we saw an elephant family coming close which was one highlight of our trip.
Dinner was tasty and they catered for all of our dietary requirements. At breakfast we enjoyed the good buffet selection whilst taking in the views.
We left before lunch but they provided us, and even our guide with lunch boxes - which was a great touch.
As the camp is surrounded by wildlife the staff really looks out for the guests, guide you from and to the lodges after dark, so we aways felt safe.
We had only one night there - we could have stayed much longer.
- Martin (10/5): - Das Dinner was ausgezeichnet. Die Lage, die Lodge, das Ambiente. Alles perfekt.
- Koshane (10/5): - The experience of coming close to the game next to the dining area was phenomenal. I think it should be made clear upon booking that the park fees are not included. To consider that park fees are charged per day, the amount payable by non residents in relation to the costs per day in comparison to accommodation is exorbitant.
- Massabo (9/5): Great experience - The location is wonderful, we loved staying in a park without fences and very close to animals, amazing experience The kitchen in the Banda is a bit small
- Janna (10/5): We had an absolutely amazing stay at Severin and if we can, we will definitely come back. - The staff at Severin was amazing, all very kind-hearted and friendly. From the operational manager to the cook and the drivers, they will make your stay unforgettable. The landscapes are great and you will be able to spot wildlife like zebras and giraffes during dinner or from your bedroom.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (10/5): Fabulous. - Location amazing. Stayed in the Bandas and they were amazing. Alpha was exceptionally helpful. Nothing
- Hillie (9/5): Superb -
- Mazzega (8/5): Very good -
- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional - Magic place! Many animals can be spotted while having breakfast or dinner (just at a few meters!).
- Simon (9/5): Lovely staff great place. - Great location we stayed in self catering. The staff lit a fire every night(2) for us. Good spot for seeing animals. The lighting in the room could be a little better.
- Giorgio (9/5): Very nice rooms inside the park - The room and the bathroom are really nice and well furnished. It is inside the park. The guy attending the room was extremely nice and kind. The room has access to a kitchen (if you don’t have meals in the rate it is pretty expensive to eat at their restaurant) It is detached from the main structure (reception, pool, restaurant) and it is not allowed to walk back and forth. The receptionist was not very kind during the check in process.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - Service was good and friendly. It was good to meet some of the staff after 15years. Food and drinks are overpriced.
- Sybil (9/5): Stunning lodge I would def. come back - We had a tent. It was stunning. There were even 2 yoga mats in the tent to use. We heared the lions at night and many more animals. Super adventerous.
The staff helped zipping up the windows at night.
Surrounding, lodge, fireplace, bar, restaurant, pool area, all the lights at night etc. absolutely stunning.
The beautiful Massai walk you to the room at night.
We loved our stay. I would def. come back.
(Fyi at the park gate tsavo west, the system to pay the park fee does not always work, they dont take cash and let you wait) One person at the reception and at the bar were rude.
For kids it would be good to offer snacks the whole day (as snacks on the room are forbidden because of the monkeys which makes sense)
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Maksim (9/5): Superb -
- Birgit (10/5): Exceptional - It was our fifth time to stay at Kitani Bandas and we will definitely come back. The houses are simple, but very clean and well equipped. You miss nothing!
- Neil (8/5): Good - Perfect location in the park, friendly and helpfull staff. Good food, while eating in the restaurant you can view Some animals If you drive yourself to the park, in wet season in can be tricky and not recommended if you don,t have a desent 4x4 car
- Roy (9/5): Great stay in Tsavo West :-) -
- Barbora (10/5): Perfect family safari. Affordable yet high standard. - The place was great, perfect service, tasteful, good food. Excellent driver and management. Nice spa, incredible massage. Lots of different activities. Perfect value for money. Wifi did not work most of the time. Some of the staff were little less motivated than others.
- Jana (8/5): Good Camp - Perfect spot in the park,
very cosy at the main camp,
great night game drive Food was very expensive and we always had to take a whole 4 course menu,
communication between the stuff members was lacking (we had to confirm the same thing multiple times with different people)
- Sergio (9/5): Good Tsavo inside the park resting place. - Great place to stay at Tsavo west NP.
The restaurant and the views of the water hole are amazing. Good service, and Best quality of products served in the restaurant. A litle tricky to have the Keys of my cabin, but finally I got It.
- Ewa (10/5): Excelent and quiet place - We spent 4 wonderful days in this hotel. It was a brilliant place to rest after the earlier safari. We stayed in a tent which was very well decorated. We liked very large beds. The camp is extremely quiet, wild animals ( elephants, zebras ect.)approached the tents and the restaurant almost every day! There is no fence, but it is very well protected. Very good food, which is not so common in this type of places. Bravo to the cook! The entire team is extremely nice and helpful! Very nice swimming pool. We really recommend this place, specially that is not very very expansive:)) some shower renovation in the tents maybe?
- Tauri (9/5): Meeting nature and wildlife… - It was extremely beautiful location, maybe it was just bit too long drive from the national park gate to the property, but it was worth it! Pure nature! No screens, no other sounds. Just meet the nature! The price of the stay DOES NOT INCLUDE quite expensive national park fees. We had 2 nights and need to pay over 200 USD additionally for the national park fees…
- Alexander (9/5): Excellent place with alternatives for slimmer purses - We stayed in the less luxurious but cheaper Bandas and that was excellent choice. We had Giraffes walking 3 m from our terrace. The kitchen had all needed for self catering, including a fridge. The dinner at the lodge (not included) was exceptional. The pool (included) was a heaven after a long Safari day. Many mosquitoes at the Bandas and windows without mosquito nets.
- Polina (8/5): Very good -
- Lor_rein (7/5): Good - The Banda's were very nice and cosy with nice beds, bathrooms and great mosquito nets. The kitchen was also well equipped and Cosmos took good care of us. The swimming pool was great. The staff at the reception weren't very helpful or informative and it was not easy to find especially as many roads leading to the camp were flooded
- Patricia (9/5): Exceptional location and relaxing place - The location, the spa/swimming pool, the kindness of the staff Booking.com did not mention that we would not be in the camp but 5 mn away by car with self-catering. Fortunately, there were available tents and the staff arranged a stay at the camp, but it costed double the initial price, which was not expected.
- Katja (9/5): great, always again.... - We have stayed there before and will always return when in Tsavo West. The best is the use of the swimming pool and the bonfire in front of the house at night while using the small kitchen to prepare a warm meal!!!! not applicable
- Adam (10/5): Kitani bandas to choose - Kitani bandas location and convenience Nothing
- Roy (8/5): Great stay in West Tsavo -
- Robert (8/5): Nice lodge but we felt a bit cut off on the self-catering bandas. - Nice lodge serving excellent (but expensive) food. We stayed in the self-catering Kitani Bandas (cottages), from where we had to drive to the main lodge to make use of its facilities.
- Ιωάννης (6/5): Perfect location, but poor accomodation ( at the bandas) - Very friendly and polite staff. Delicious food. Perfect location inside Tsavo West national park. While the tents are very luxurious, the bandas seem kinda abandoned. There isn't any means to transfer from the camp to the bandas, and its prohibited to walk due to wildlife. Likely we gad our driver. Inside the apartment there were insect (spider) and one lizard. The food is quite expensive, and the bandas are quite expensive, compared to the quality. Last and most important, there was an issue with the hot water. Me and my wife had to take our shower without hot water, thus resulting waking up the next morning with a cold. We are not sure about the camps, but the bandas are kinda poor. Totally not worthy the money they charged.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gröschl (4/5): greatly overpriced and under delivered. - The receptionist showed great empathy and tried her best to respond to our complaints. We arrived at 7,30pm in the evening after a long drive from Arusha that included a border crossing. One of the security guards at the hotel explained that we were rater late... this is not the kind of welcoming the two co-owners advocate in their brochure.
We were given two bandas about one kilometer away from the hotel facilities. and its staff. The bandas are part of a previous Lodge with a different name. Numerous of the bandas seemed abandoned and were run down (see photo).
We were told by staff that animals (including lions and buffalos) access the property of the bandas at night. Yet, the hotel did not provide any security staff around the bandas at night- something I have not seen in any other hotel or lodge in other parks in the past.
In our bandas there was one piece of soap. No welcome water, no shampoo, no shower gels.
The mosquito nets were with holes (see photo).
In the 'kitchen' we found one glass for four guests.
The light in the drive way was broken/did not work.
Dinner for kids and adults was a set menu at almost 40 US Dollars per person with no other options- kids regardless of age paid the same price.
Breakfast was buffet style at 20 dollars - kids regardless of age paid the same price.
- George (4/5): Good location but overpriced and mediocre. - good location, good breakfast, comfy bed - no hot water
- room we booked was not available and no one told us until we got there; we got a downgrade and a massage as bonus
- confusing checkin, very confused and grumpy staff
- no mosquito net in the room; we had a few mosquitoes and flies even though we were reassured there were none
- people allowed to smoke in the common area
- taps in the room spraying water everywhere
- one of the bottles of water we ordered tasted very heavily like disinfectant
- Bastian (8/5): Very good - Nice lodge and bandas located in the middle of the wilderness (the view is a bit limited though). Great staff who treated us very fairly (one of us was sick and was served a minimal breakfast without being charged). The Bandas are in a different, non-walkable location from the main lodge. That wasn't clear from the booking page.
Breakfast wasn't a buffet and needed to be ordered; it took forever to be served (almost 1 hour).
- Kakadu112 (1/5): Unethical business practice - Could be a good location in the parc but is badly managed. Infrastructure generally apealing but needs investment. Unhappy and unmotivatwd personnel. Tried to trick us into signing an encompassing waiver of liability, which we refused. Then they coerced us by claiming we couldnt stay if we didnt sign. Given time and remote location this meant that the threatened that we had to sleep in our car in the national park, with four small children and among wild animals. Unethical if not illegal.
Also no electricity in the night (stopping generatirs) and only coöd water.
- Diana (10/5): It’s a fantastic place! Beautiful in every way! - Location, good taste on furniture, good food, friendly staff, great views. Lack of electricity throughout the night ( my husband sleeps with a CPAP machine).
- Bafaba (9/5): Superb - We loved the location being inside the Park, and being surrounded by wildlife and nature. Cosmos was an excellent help, telling us about things we could see. N/A
- Andreas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Himmiche (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): A wonderful adventure deep in the savannah - The close access to animals It was great!
- Frank (10/5): You cannot get any better than this!!! - Just wonderful. You will not find this level of service even in Mombasa and Nairobi hotels. The staff is amazing as are the culinary creations from the on-site restraunt. There is nothing I can say negative about this experience. In the jungle living like a king. To those who expect National Geographic please set your sites lower. While you will see plenty of African animals the king of the jungle is elusive.
- Marek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caecilie (10/5): Absolutely amazing stay, very recommended 👌 - We stayed at the self-catering banta. We had an amazing time, special thanks to the exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff.
The place was clean, well equipped and spacious. No complaints from our side.
- Katie (9/5): amazing, serene overnight stay - The pool and massage facilities are wonderful. lovely tents. Wonderful atmosphere. nothing
- Messerli (8/5): Very good -
- Romain (9/5): Dreamy oasis in the heart of a national park - Beautiful, tasteful and peaceful lodge in the heart of Tsavo west. Beautiful tents and atmosphere with animals all around.
Delicate service; great food…a must is to go for the rangers bush walk they’re offering !
- Claire (9/5): Wish we had stayed longer recommend a few night to allow to enjoy the stay as much as the game - Breakfast was lovely and we were joined by zebras the location of the restaurant is just stunning
- Laura (9/5): Unforgettable nights - We stayed at the Kitani Bandas and were happy we did! We were expecting a lot of insects or mosquitoes but there were none and we spent great nights there, enjoying our fire pit and hearing hyenas. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchenware, including coffee pot, were all new. Nothing, I will repeat this experience. Thank you!
- Erik (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed in the Bandas cooking our own food for our family of 5. Clean and very good location out in Tsavo. The kids loved the pool.
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (6/5): Over priced, windy, dusty and not much wildlife. - The location gave a great opportunity to watch for oryx and kundu. The wind is very strong and surprisingly chilly at this site. It also throws up a lot of dusty. The staff were on the whole very helpful and very attentive.
- Tracy (8/5): love this place, will be back - this is a really well run self catering camp in the middle of tsavo west. big cottages that have comfy beds, all linen provided, big kitchen that has everything you need. big bathrooms, hot showers, shampoo etc. all you need to bring is your food. Cosmas, the camp attend is amazing. not a thing
- Sophia (9/5): Superb -
- Callan (9/5): restful, nature filled, amazing. - the cottages are so comfortable and have everything you need. Cosmas is an excellent host. nothing
- Robertus1965 (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Nice stay - Location is amazing. The game drives were among the best of the six safaris we have done in Africa. The lodge is beautiful (dining area, swimming pool). The food (set menu with some options) is OK but not spectacular. Very good driver/guide (Mohammed), staff at reception is helpful. We were in the bandas (self catering, although we mainly ate in the restaurant) and we had the feeling these were a bit treated like the 'stepchildren': we didn't have warm water during our 2-day stay ("technical issues"), WiFi was rather patchy and the 'cleaner' was not very pro-active (or active, for that matter 🤭). But all in all these were minor hiccups that are quickly forgotten.
- Abdulbasit (7/5): Good -
- Neunmalklug (6/5): Pleasant - The food is excellent and the service great. The tents are well equipped and close by the main area.
- Jelena (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (9/5): great - Amazing location open to the park and great staff drinks were pricey and the room needed a fan in it
- Philippe_92100 (7/5): Good - To be in the park for the night, Calaos, impalas, monkeys so close to you! The room itself The room is, if you take the affordable price, 5 minutes road from the main camp. Hard to find. And a guy is waiting for you on the difficult to find arrival with your key with absolutely no added value than expecting his tip
- Christopher (10/5): Excellent. - The chance to stay in Tsavo at what is still quite expensive but a fraction of the other properties around here is great, and it was described as 'self catering cottage' and it really did fit the bill. Get wildlife strolling by (eg giraffe) and whole place is clean and as it should be. The only minor point I would have is that we were sent off to find our room in the dark and there was really no way that we could have found it. A man came chasing after us, seemingly playing the 'tip' game - make sure they get lost then come and rescue when you were always intending to come along.
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional - everything was amazing
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional in every way! - Beautiful and relaxing - the best massage I have ever had!
- Judit (10/5): Luxury in the Nature - Wonderful place, nice people. Direct contact to wild! From the bed best wiev to game.
- Mary (10/5): - We were there for just one night but what a lovely camp. A couple of comments for improvements: on arrival, there was no one at the reception and we had to wait for about 10 minutes. Secondly, breakfast is served until 10.00 am. However, as we were having breakfast at 8.00, staff began clearing and moving tables and speaking loudly to each other, completely disrupted the serene ambience that we were enjoying. This needs to be looked into to enhance client experiences.
- Jen (10/5): - Loved everything, especially the staff and the food. It was great having a 4 course dinner each night in a beautiful location.
