- Jake (7/5): Good for short stay - Clean and quiet, if you like privacy you’ll like it. Had to call to get my room number and code when I arrived but ended up getting it which was all good! Would be nice to have it emailed or texted before hand without having to ask. Wish the big panel heaters were going as it is quite cold. The heater that was provided did do the job as well as the electric blankets.
- Roy (4/5): Could be better - Had the basics, comfy bed, small kitchenette ensuite. Curtains were useless when outside light streams through when trying to sleep.Need blackout curtains TV is useless, not connected to aerial or dish. Shower was ok but water goes everywhere. Had to use all the towels to dry the slippery tiles. Needs a grounds keeper.
- Jason (4/5): Disappointing - No staff It is a beautiful place or it was It’s overgrown and neglected no one cares for it I was disappointed But the rooms were clean I have to say The pictures of this are out of date and should be changed because it’s a mess
- Doug (5/5): adequate premises that could be memorable with a little tlc great location lotsa history - The premises were clean and reasonably modern. There were coffee/tea sachets the heater was efficient and tv was reasponable There were no cups or mugs for coffee and no milk and only a single glass The exterior and the grounds were poorly maintained . The site has such potential and it is such a shame
- Jennifer (5/5): Passable - Clean.Heater warmed room well and bed comfy. Misrepresented the venue.....Millhouse photo doesnt depict where we stayed. Very unkept surroundings Lots of spoons but just 2 knives and 1x fork. No plunger coffee, just a plunger, no plain tea just herbal(my husband likes plain tea. No instant coffee apart from decaff. No milk provided which was a pity as the closest shop was 20mins away.

- Lauren (6/5): It’s a shame that it could be a fabulous place to stay , but it’s not due to no services at all. - The location suited our needs being close to where family lived. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean, pretty gardens. It was impossible to get in contact with the manager of the property. They don’t answer the phone or return emails.My sister who lives near by went to check us in to the Mill house due to our late arrival. Upon looking at the rooms we would be staying in at The Millhouse, she knew it wouldn’t be suitable for our 10day stay , so she had us moved to the motel rooms on sight. There is no services at all on the property, we had to contact them to get our room serviced once during our stay , all we really wanted was fresh towels, as they do not dry during the day, even after 2 days they’re still damp.We literally did not see one staff member over our 10day stay. There is no keys for the doors, instead you are given a pass code for entry, everyday was a challenge with the keypad, it took multiple attempts to get into your room. The cupboards in the bathroom had a putrid smell, not sure if it had something to do with the drain. The cupboards had plates , cutlery but limited cups and glasses. I do not feel it was worth the money we paid per night. My advice to the owners, go stay at another motel and have a look at the basic necessities in a self contained motel room, the bedding, linen, towels, cups , glasses, iron and ironing board.

The place was empty with no notification from you or the Mill house that the information I had received was a lie Roy traies We had passed the Mill house, and my wife had admired the building, and you're pictures and comments on what to expect. Only to find it locked and unattended .there was no information on the door or any information received that this was happening .After a phone call where there was no any apology for her avoidance of contacting me and just said if you drive back to Oamaru, we will house you there. So we had booked, looked forward to and drove to the Mill house only to have to return as it was infact closed I need you to take action of the illegally advertising and taking money for something that doesn't exist.. I have a booking with you to Roatonga on the 18 .I have phoned them and have been assured they have confirmed that they are, in fact, there and will be looked after with respect . - Jackie (9/5): Superb - Staff were great and opened up especially for a few of us as we had booked in for the Pink concert in Dunedin. Beautiful building and setting in Herbert. Clean and comfortable with great shower. Definitely recommend.
- Leann (7/5): Great and cheap stay if just traveling through - Parking was good, staff were friendly Musty smell (but it did look like a older building) bathroom had a quite a few flies which meant there was a lot of fly poop in the corners of the room

- Lara (1/5): Very stressful and unfortunate - Did not have an opportunity to stay in the Mill House so unable to find anything to like. Booking was made and confirmation received (including updated arrival times) yet when we arrived at the Mill House it was closed; and had apparently been closed for months! It was distressing to arrive in the evening at our accommodation and find that our anticipated one night stopover could not happen, and then need to find new accommodation at the last minute after 8pm at night. Our dinner reservation needed to be cancelled. So what should have been a really lovely evening ended up being rather stressful! This gives us no confidence in making a reset through booking.com again!

- Daphne (10/5): Nice hotel/motel with a lot of history - My husband and I stayed in the motel section of The Mill House for 2 nights. There are premium hotel rooms in the beautifully restored Mill House as well. These rooms don't tend to show up on hotel booking websites since they focus on the cheaper priced rooms. If you want to stay in the historic Mill House, you should call the hotel directly. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The gardens here are so beautiful. This place is right next to the River and a historic bridge built in the 1800s. I highly recommend staying here.

- Heather (10/5): Motel unit in beautiful garden - Historic old stone built mill in an amazing garden setting on a river bank. A profusion of flowers, shrubs and trees If you're a gardener you'll love it. Our host, Malcolm, regaled us with the story of the mill and the unique skewed arch bridge beside it. The unit in the garden was equipped with everything we could need and the bed was the most comfortable of any we had slept in so far in New Zealand. Thanks Malcolm

- James (8/5): Wonderful Stone Mill Converted to a Hotel - Wonderful three story old mill nicely concerted into a nice new hotel with the charm of 3' stone walls. Spectacular 2 acre garden. Additional rooms in the garden area. Nice owner hosts. Highly recommend a stay there.

- Alison (8/5): Good could of been better - Booked twin room and received large family room which was cold and dark, due to length of stay wanted to change to opposite side which staff were unable to accommodate. Staff were freindly and good range of non cooked breakfast.
- Bob B. (8/5): unusual place - Booked online. Thought we were going to stay in nice old three storey "Mill House". Bit disappointed when accommodation was 100 meters away in much more modern unit. Even though unit was substantial distance from main south highway and parallel train line, noise penetrated the room which kept my wife awake. Asked owner about noise before we stayed and he said they were used to it, not a worry. Bed was huge but not comfortable.Total lack of hanging space, not even a towel rail in bathroom.

- Ann (10/5): Clean comfortable and modern unit, super shower - This a quiet location quite isolated location some distance from the nearest town, We were here to see the blue penguins. Very dark drive back to the Mill house at least minute drive. We stayed 2 nights and the 2nd day we used as a rest day as other than visiting the penguins and a ride on a vintage train there is not much going on. Back at the Mill House We relaxed on the deck area with a glass of wine and a short walk along the river bank.

We just missed a table and a second chair in our apartment unit because it was a rainy evening. On sunny days you can use the lovely outdoor seating.
- Miranda (10/5): Beautiful garden setting - I stayed in the studio room which was surrounded by beautiful garden. At the back was garden furniture over looking the river, if the weather had of been nicer it would have been an ideal place to sit and relax. Very friendly and helpful staff also.

- Bruce (8/5): Excellent value motel - We found everything to our liking. Very nice grounds, very clean and comfortable at at good price. No bells and whistles but as local travellers that suited us fine. The dining room is only open when tour groups are staying, but we had our own breakfast and a good kitchen in our unit.The manager/owner direct us to the Moreiki Tavern for a meal and we were not disappointed with that suggestion Great meals there, affordable. We had an interesting day exploring the Katiki Lighthouse and wildlife in that area, a hidden gem and walking the Millennium Track at Moreiki.. We stayed in the more spacious superior motel unit which was very comfortable. There are two of them in the motel block, if when booking you get a choice ask for the end unit which has much more light in it than the one next door due to the end windows. However no complaints.

We knew it was close to a main road and railway line so took ear plugs for sleeping so had no problems. The restored Mill house is a delight to have a wander through.
