Guest Reviews
- Dominic (10/5): Truly an oasis in the heart of Ubud - I always come back here when traveling to Bali and Ubud. The family are some of the kindest people I've ever met and even though it's super central, Depa House is a true oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of downtown Ubud <3 Nothing
- Julian (10/5): -
- Naomi (10/5): Charming Balinese Accom in a Perfect Location - The location couldn’t be better — quiet and tucked away but just a few steps to the Main Street. I love the old Balinese door to my little unit. Great price. It’s definitely very basic, but completely fine if you’re on a budget.
- Sonal (9/5): Amazing location, comfortable room, great host - Loved the location and that the room was completely packed (no openings anywhere – hence insect-free). Could see how balinese families actually lives, and the host was kind and communicative.
- Philip (8/5): -
- Elisa Crovi (6/5): - Posizione comoda, sistemazione tradizionale e molto originale.
- Zacharoula (10/5): Exceptional - I loved my stay there. They are the kindest and nicest people ever, and they make you feel at home. I also really liked the breakfast, and they would always help me with everything I needed. Thank you for everything!
- Yvonne (8/5): Great Value for Money - We did not get the breakfast, but the accommodation was fine There was no one there (except for Grandma) to greet us but other than that, it was fine.
- Chiara (8/5): Very recommended - They’re super nice and welcoming they make you breakfast and always willing to help if you need anything. Place was super nice with a nice terrace and all the comfort
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yanning (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Good - Nice, substantial free breakfast. Room was small but spacious enough. Good location, close to the center but tucked into a private compound. Hot water and aircon were working fine. Amplified music from the neighbors, which usually ended by midnight but was still loud enough to annoy. The door to room 05 had a huge gap in it that could let in prying eyes, the balconies are also not quite private with only a potted plant serving as a barrier. You can lock your windows but it might be a bit uncomfortable for some. The bathroom is quite old and could use an update.
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was wonderful. So warm and hospitable, there to help with tours and activities if you need but not trying to sell you anything. The location is in the
middle of town off of Jl Hanoman, walking distance to everything. Most importantly for me, a 12 minute walk to Yoga Barn. Despite location it's relatively quiet. Breakfast was great. I recommend the Bali breakfast rather than the western. Greeted every day by a bunch of friendly little dogs. Comfortable beds, efficient a/c. I slept great! If you are walking to Yoga Barn, ignore GPS. Just go out the front, turn right, bear left at the big monkey statue, walk approx 250 m. Turn left at the Sally's sign (which is at eye level) Much safer and more pleasant of a walk Hot water usually, but not always, works but takes running the water 10 minutes or so. I'd still stay there again though
- Matthew (8/5): Very good -
- Jessica (8/5): Very good -
- Merly (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous place just off main road, far enough away you can't hear the road but barely 1min walk down the street. Breakfast was yum and the owners were lovely
- Annie (8/5): Worth the money - Near to shops restaurants and near the Ubud Market and the Monkey Sanctuy None
- Tamara (8/5): Great location - Location is great, easy walk to the market and the palace, bed very comfortable too, great value for the money.
Very quiet at night too. It does needs a face lifts, pictures in the advertising are very well taken but the reality it feels old-ish, but again, value for the money felt fair enough.
- Ume (10/5): I was satisfied with the location, price, and service! I would love to stay again! - Despite its convenient location in the city, it was very quiet in the mornings and evenings (although I could hear the practice for the ceremony performances from the neighborhood every night, I enjoyed it), and I was able to spend my time comfortably. The staff members were kind and warm, and returning to the accommodation felt reassuring. The breakfast included in the accommodation fee was homemade and delicious! If I had to mention something, it was a bit unexpected that there were steep stairs leading to my room and that payment was cash only (I think I overlooked that detail on the website).
- Mariana (9/5): Wonderful experience - Very beautiful house, a true Balinese one. Depa and his family are very friendly and helps you with anything you need. He kept my luggage at his place for few days when I was in Gili Islands. It’s in the center of Ubud, 10 minutes walking from all the attractions (Ubud Palace, Monkey Forest, etc). It’s very quiet in the house but when you go in the streets, the center is quite noisy.
- Miguel (9/5): Superb -
- Ayşegül (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. It was quiet, clean, the family was really kind and helpful, good breakfast made with attention and coffee tea station always ready any time of the day. There is always someone to greet you with a smile and make sure everything is okay and go the extra mile to answer your questions. As a solo Traveller I felt so confortable staying there.
I recommend 100% and would go back ! The whole place is fully traditional Balinese architecture and looks great, very peaceful atmosphere. There’s possibility to arrange laundry if you need.
Cute dogs and kittens to hang out with as well! When I first arrived I was in a room that had a bit of a smell to it. I usually would not mind but as I felt pretty sensitive to it I told the owner and they found me a solution straight away, problem was solved !
Nothing about cleanliness maybe the pipes but I got put in another room even a bit late in the evening which was perfect, so it was not even a negative point in the end. Really impressed with the quality of service it was a great stay.
Thanks again!
- Saskia (4/5): Lovely hosts but unfortunately I couldn’t stay there - Lovely hosts Compared to the photos I booked on booking.com I was given a completely different room (probably the worst one) I never had this problem before the photos have always matched the room. I ended up not staying there the first night because I felt uncomfortable (and stayed with a friend instead) I stay in homestays always I don’t mind basic rooms but in the morning when I arrived the water was black and I couldn’t even wash myself (the host explained and I understand that it wasn’t their fault so that is okay) they then tried to upgrade me to another room which was a lot nicer so I was considering to give them another go but unfortunately when I checked the bed there was so much hair all over and I knew at that point the bedding wasn’t changed :( I couldn’t stay there and checked out early. I felt disappointed
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Camila (5/5): Passable - The location was pretty good and the family that owed it very kind but didn’t speak English at all so a little bit hard to communicate. Breakfast in the morning was good. Very old, the bed very very hard and every time you try to turn round in the bed made a massive noise that you will wake up while sleeping. I understand is cheap , but is not very clean at all.
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Liza (10/5): Exceptional - It was so nice stay in Depa House! I llived in my own house :) You actually live in hindu temple. It's so nice atmosphere there and people are very friendlly. It's in the centre of Ubud. Breakfast was very delicious, omlete, fruits and banana toasts. I was there two times in two weaks and I loved it!
- Kerrin (8/5): Very good - Great location, comfy bed, staff are so lovely, nice breakfast of omelette, fruit, banana jaffle and tea/coffee. Bathroom isn't the greatest and it's quite noisy from neighbors
- Aneta (8/5): we had a nice stay, the breakfast was nice, rooms are older and you can see it - location, breakfast, nice owner the rooms are smaller and not somehow luxurious, you can see it is older and the beds are very loud
- Maughan (1/5): Ants everywhere in the room and black built up dirt in all the corners. - It was very central and easy to get around. Massive cobwebs under the bed, full of ants all over the floor, got onto the bed, got bit by ants on my foot. Black dust/ants in each corner. If I hadn't already paid for the 4 nights I would have left. Fallen plaster bits under the shelf. Wandered when it had last been used or cleaned.
- Capt (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful little temple compound. The staff tried to add tax on to the agreed price from booking.com. I pointed out that this was incorrect, and received no apology. I booked a boat ticket to Lombok at an agreed price. When I collected the ticket in the evening, the price had increased significantly, and it was too late for me to get it at the correct price on the street. The prices are fixed everywhere, so it couldn't have been a mistake. My conclusion is that the staff are dishonest, and try to cheat you. The room was shabby. The ceiling fan was so noisy that I had to switch it off, and it was dangerously loose. My previous place was massively better, for the same price. Lots of better places around.
- Samira (10/5): Exceptional - The family is very friendly. Perfect location and nice breakfast.
- Jannet (10/5): It’s one of the best places i have stayed in my journey. I completely recommend it. - The family were so amazing! I will come always here! Wifi sometimes wasn’t working good.
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - Beautiful home stay, room was great, quite and solid built. Cooked omellet and fruit for breakfast. Not hot water, surprise 10% on-top of the booking.com 10+10 quoted, did not challenge because of awesome value.
- Materesa (10/5): Wonderful stay!! - I love everything in Depa house!! I felt home from the first minute. It is a wonderful ancient real typical indonesian house!! Go there and feel you the vibes! They are so nice people, always trying to helping you in everything you need. The breakfast is really delicous breakfast home made by the grandma of the family, she is so really cute woman, always happy!! I extended my stay at Depa House, and also I got back there at the end onf my travel in Bali for a couple of days. They are my indonesian family in Ubud ^^ I can't wait to come back and visit them! Nothing!! Everything is perfect at Depa House!
- Ann-loou (10/5): Exceptional - I just love the staff and of course the price. Close to yoga barn and everything you need in Ubud.
I also had breakfast included and got my laundry cleaned for very little money.
I have booked the same place for my stay so I will return, and I could even thinking of stay there for a longer rent next time.
My first days my room was too little to be able to do my yoga but I went to yoga barn for even better experience.
Next week I got a bigger room for a few days.
Are you looking for a nice place just for sleep and enjoy Ubud this is your place .
See you again !
Best regards,
Ann-Loou Maybe some of the rooms is very small because I want to be able to do yoga. If not everything is fine.

- Calum (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome wee home stay beautiful rooms authentic and lush such Great value for money. Thank you so much for helping me with the traditional outfit for the ceremony and a lift over. Would love to come back
- Denie (7/5): Good - Cozy family homestay, centrally located in Ubud No Air conditioning but I guess thats what's keeping the price down. Little dogs barking during the night.
- Janani (2/5): Very poor -
- Ernst-herman (8/5): Very good -
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional - Great hotel and easily accessible special thing the food they served man that was so delicious and heart warming
- Jozefien (8/5): Stay with a local family - In a prime location in Ubud. It was only a 10 min walk from the yoga barn.
There were so many different restaurants only a few minutes walk away.
The monkey forest is at walking distance.
- Katerina (7/5): Good -
- Janina (4/5): Disappointing - The location is central It was a bit dirty and the toilet didn’t work so I booked another place to stay.
- Angie (7/5): Good - Peaceful/ kind service / perfect location No air conditioning
- Rosel (8/5): Very good - Staying was good
- Jihong (9/5): I recommend this place for single travelers. - It was a great experience living in a local Balinese home. I enjoyed the gorgeous home garden and the traditional Balinese housing design. Fantastic location, right in the centre of Ubud but away from the street, quiet for resting. The facility was a bit old but functioning well. Bed was clean and the bathroom was clean so I’m pretty satisfied with what I got and the price. The homestay family was very friendly and kind. Wish they have a hair dryer for girls.
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional - Central homestay with nice hosts and an amazing breakfast. And a good value for money
The roome is as to be expected in the pricerange simply furnished.

- Chee (9/5): Superb - Nothing
- Satchidananda (4/5): Disappointing -
- Basso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional - Room was comfortable and spacious. Gardens and surroundings were well maintained
- Xuping (9/5): Nicest breakfast I had in all home stay in Ubud - Nicest breakfast! Loved the banana toast! Safe and clean, good service. Second floor room comes with a balcony. Very good families live in, always say hello. Wi-Fi could be improved for those who stay on the second floor.
- Cz (10/5): Exceptional - amazing place, friendly owners, great breakfast
- Maryna (8/5): Very good - Nice aura of the place. For small money you get great hospitality. Big thank you to adorable grandma cooking breakfast. And cute pups running around:)
- Julie-anne (9/5): a lovely relaxing atmosphere close to a busy street. - quiet
host’s very friendly
great breakfast
coffee & breakfast on the pato
neat fish in pond ..got to feed them the room smelled of moth balls
it was soo strong it penetrated my clothes and could smell it after even leaving there .
- Heena (7/5): nice for a short stay - I stayed two nights here, first night was a lovely big and clean room with AC, but had to move the second night when extending my stay and the 2nd room didn’t have AC(fan only)
location of the homestay is very central staff were friendly but limited English therefore difficult to get help
animals roam around freely at this property
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional - I had a wonderful stay here, and thought everything about it was great!
- Sadowski (6/5): Pleasant - Hosts- Amazing people with big hearts and super helpful.
Nice location, a lot of nature around the property. Toilet was in terrible condition - smell from toilet towards room.
- Myriam (10/5): Nice stay in the heart of Ubud - The most adorable family. Thank you for your warm welcome and for being so nice, understanding and helpful.
- Agnieszka (10/5): Like at home💛 - The owners are helpful in any situation, with the transport, or giving info, or giving a lift to the market... The coffee is welcoming you. GD made my heart full of joy sharing fruits after my adventurous trip in hidden waterfalls and canyons, and his wife made the most delicious breakfest on earth. --

- Karthik (8/5): Very good -
- Eglantina (2/5): Very poor -
- Pal (10/5): Exceptional - Very good people nice and good atmosphere.highly recommend.
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional - It was perfect :-)
- Leahoogie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrea (10/5): Warm welcoming family homestay. Thank you - Even though Depa house is in the middle of the shopping Hanoman street, the room was surprisingly quiet. I ejoyed my stay, the size of my room, spacious and sunny terrace, as well as the breakfast which was prepared for me with care and flexibility depending when I woke up. I have to say thank you, I felt very welcomed by Gede and his family. I would welcome some shelves to put my stuff on but otherwise everything was fine. I didnt miss anything much.
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Agata (3/5): Poor -
- Jodie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Magdalena (9/5): Superb - Such a cute little family run homestay in the middle of Ubud. Even though the city center is right around the corner, this is a calm and quiet place to relax. The family who runs Depa House is super genuine, Pastika took me to the rice terrace and the temple to make sure I see as much as possible in the short amount of time in Ubud, so actually I had my personal tour guide which was awesome. I had a great time and I appreciate everything he did for me. I felt very welcome and I would definitely come back!
- Thoa (5/5): It was okay for 1 or 2 nights. - The location is great. The homestay is rather old and needs some work. There's only a ceiling fan and it doesn't work well. The room is stuffy so had to open the window at night. But then there are tons of mosquitos. This room needs a mosquito net. Overall it was alright but 1 or 2 nights but anymore is kind of rough.
- Emma (10/5): 10/10 recommend - Amazing place, especially for the price.
Staff are so friendly and welcoming. Help with anything and make breakfast at whatever time you want it in the morning.
Perfect location also.
Would 100% stay here again if coming to ubud.
- Michaela (10/5): Highly recommended! - I stayed there 2 weeks, and it was great the whole time. The room has a double bed, a wardrobe, a small desk, and importantly - AC. There is a spacious (private) terrace with a table and two chairs, where there was always hot water to drink, coffee powder, tea, and sugar. Each morning I received breakfast on the terrace (e.g. omelette, pancakes), always with a plate of local fruits. The hosts are super kind and responsive. I was able to rest and enjoy my time. This very affordable homestay has a very attractive price-performance ratio, really.
- Rachel (9/5): Really enjoyed my time here. Would highly recommend. - Staff were lovely and accommodating. Breakfast was lovely. Room was cosy. Great location. Great value for money.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elin (10/5): - Really cosy place. The staff where nice and very helpful. We ended up prolonging our stay twice.
- Elin (10/5): - Love this place! Staff is super nice & helpful. Of you want to rent a scooter they arrange it for you at a good price.
The only thing that was a bit negative was that the AC didn't work at full power and the room we got was quite small if you're 2 persons traveling with big luggage.
But I would definitely stay here again if I ever come back to Ubud
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice spot - Lovely place. A bit noisy at night due to music activities taking place at the temple next door. We stayed an extra night, but the second morning they kind of skimped on our breakfast which was too bad because it was really great the first day!
- Hayley (10/5): Great stay - We had a lovely stay here. The breakfast was incredible made as soon as you go out onto your porch. It was a good variety of food each day ranging from eggs to pancakes and a platter of fruit alongside. The staff are very friendly and although they don't all speak good English they all smile and say hello. Room was nice with a beautifully carved door and bed frame although there was a bit of mould on the walls. We would stay there again.
- Sylvie (10/5): - Depa house is family run and absolutely marvelous. The 5 rooms are throughout a typical Balinese housing compound. Each is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is yummy with coffee and tea available all day long. The hosts go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and valued. The Depa house is centrally localted, close to center of town, yet just far enough down a small alley to be completely serene. I would stay there again!!!
