Guest Reviews
- Steve (6/5): - The property is a true motor inn. There's a good amount of traffic noise. The rooms are nothing fancy, but they are clean. Although, the cleaner they use is a bit strong smelling.
- CINDY (6/5): Affordable - It's an older bldg, But updated. Room is comfortable and clean. No coffee pot đ , has everything else. Water is hard. Room deodorizer is used - super strong.
There is alot of city/traffic noise, but gets quiet around 11 p.m. Seems to be a place where homless folks are given lodging on one end. They did not approach us.
Management was friendly and helpful.
- Therese (6/5): Not the best - When I arrived, there were a lot of people hanging out around the motel. It was noisy there but settled down after midnight. The beds were so uncomfortable. The first night I could barely sleep. The mattress was so bad. I kept falling towards the side of the bed. The pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The rooms are old and very basic. Honestly, I won't stay there again.
- Robert (8/5): - This motel is convenient to downtown.
Room AC unit is loud, tough to sleep through, even at a low fan speed setting.
- Darrell (10/5): - Good manager and sta. Much nicer than expected.
- Darrell (8/5): - Clean well kept nice room
- Robert (8/5): - This is a clean well maintained property.
- warren (6/5): Cheap stay - The hotel is an older property although it was clean. There were clearly some younger down on their luck people staying there. Mine was the only car in the parking lot but there were quite a few people coming and going.
- Alfred (10/5): Perfect for what I needed. - Clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient. Traveling solo for a baseball tournament in town. This place was great for me. No issues whatsoever.
- Debra (6/5): Convenient motel - Stayed here many times. Convenient location for visiting SUNY Cortland. Nothing fancy but comfortable.
- Jonathan (6/5): - Room stank of deodorizer
No USB-C plug available
Otherwise it was acceptable
- Tina (10/5): - Stayed there many times. Will go back and stay again.
- E5764TOdonm (6/5): Very noisy room, internet service not usable - Stayed here April 8-9. Room was incredibly noisy, not from adjacent rooms but rather the roads. The motel is conveniently located squarely between two very busy intersections. Trucks and cars that stomp on the gas pedal were all readily heard as though the window was open. Police and fire sirens were also prominent. The internet service was very poor (slow, and errors) for 10 minutes, and then totally failed. There were a total of 4 cars in the parking lot overnight, with many more rooms occupied by people who appear to live there - who hang around outside their rooms, smoking and talking. The room itself was decent, but there is no way I would ever consider staying here again.
- richard (10/5): - Checkin super easy. Room was very clean and beds were comfortable. When you pull into motel parking lot you might think what did I book but ignore that-very happy. Diner across the street was great. And tons of other food
Options. Cortland U only down the block. Very convenient! Would stay there again.
- Wendy (10/5): - The room was very clean
- REBECCA (6/5): - close to campus and dining.
- Robert (8/5): - Convient location to downtown. Rooms are clean and bright.
- Robert (6/5): - No smoking rooms on second floor only. Nearby Cortland Diner was excellent.
- Randi (8/5): - Perfect location to downtown.
- Barry (6/5): - Rooms are in good condition but overall property is old and located in a rather poor section of Cortland. Restaurants are close by on Main St.
- Peggy (10/5): - Travelled a distance so quick check in with receptionist who was both pleasant and accomodating welcoming for us. Room large and easy access with card. Secure with locking bolt inside if you wish to use it but self-locking each time. Quite and parking lot recently paved. Just a safe and economic place to be. Highly recommended.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Super clean
- Les (8/5): - Stayed one night (college drop off). Pretty quiet area. We mainly watched TV.
- Christine (8/5): - I appreciated Tony accommodating my request for a ground room floor as i use a walker . Parking was right in front of our room. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable and great location.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Outside looks a little rough but the inside is really nice. Very kind staff at check in
- Debra (8/5): Comfortable, no frills motel - I've stayed here a few nights now. Very close to campus so that makes it convenient when I visit my son. I was skeptical the first time I stayed. The outside is in rough shape but I was pleasantly surprised when I got in my room. There has been some remodeling done on the inside. It's always clean. No weird smells other than occasionally if someone is smoking out on the walkway the heater/AC pulls in the smell. I did have a neighbor regularly out there smoking pot during this last visit. There is a fridge and microwave but no coffee in the room so plan on bringing your own or I personally recommend CoffeeMania just down the street. There is cable so you can catch up on shows that haven't made it to streaming devices yet. That was a plus this trip. đ
- Kirk (10/5): - We were very pleasantly surprised. The pictures we saw online made things look a bit outdated and when we pulled up the outside seemed to confirm that. When we turned the key there were lots of obvious recent upgrades inside the room that impressed us. At least 16 outlets for one. Wonderful new large shower. TV was top-notch. The mattress was high quality. Very impressed. I would definitely stay again.
- Tina (10/5): - Friendly and comfortable rooms
- Susan (6/5): - Kinda waited until last minute to get room for daughter's college move and pickings were slim. I knew what I was getting into, I mean it's a motel and it was cheap. Man in the office was very nice, helpful. Easy check-in. Outside was a little scary, inside was outdated but seemed clean. Only real problem I had was that there was not chain lock on the door so I had to put a chair in front of it.
- Patrick (8/5): - Perfect for the priceâŚYou are not getting the Waldorf-Astoria but you are not paying for it either. Good for a short stay when traveling.
- Elizabeth (4/5): - Room smelled like cigarette smoke. Drug deals were going on outside on the street. Sketchy neighborhood.
- Erika (10/5): - For a motel, the place was very clean, smells nice and room is updated! The reception people are nice too! Smooth checkin. The location is perfect, you can walk around and there are restaurants everywhere!
- james (8/5): - clean and comfortable. Staff was polite and very helpful. My third trip to Cortland and for the price it's a very good value.
- Lisa (6/5): - Very outdated hotel.
- Robert (6/5): This Motel has seen better days - While the location in Cortland is good and the interior of the rooms are clean and spartan, the exterior of the motel is unsightly and potentially dangerous. While the rooms were recently upgraded, they are still below the current standards. The instructions for the internet service in the room were incorrect and I did not call the manager because I expect these things to be correct. There was no breakfast service and no in room coffee service. We were there two nights, but there was no maid service provided.
- Harris (10/5): - Excellent owners/managers. Always helpful and reachable. Exactly what I wanted it to be, everything worked and was clean.
- trippyvizer (8/5): Totally tuned around! - Having grown up in Cortland, I remember this motel as having a reputation and not a good one. However the recent reviews seemed good and it was a much better deal than the chains so I went for it and had no regrets. The room was clean, surprisingly modern, and the bed was very comfortable. And now Cortland has a cool coffee shop called Bru so being able to walk to there was a big plus Would definitely stay again!
- Jeanmarie (8/5): - This motel is very reasonably priced. The motel is on a very busy street in downtown Cortland, which creates more noise at the motel. The grounds could be updated, but rooms were clean.
- James (10/5): - Convenient to down town...a bit noisy at night. Good value for the money
- Kelly (6/5): - The room was decent enough but the water pressure in the toilet was weak. It would be nice to have coffee (maker) in the room or at least the lobby. The room was generally clean. The outside looked rough. When my brother locked the key in the room, someone quickly unlocked the door for us. There was no one in the office when we checked out at about 9am and wasn't sure where to put the key.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Shower had too little water flow
- David (10/5): - Convenient location. Clean. Friendly staff. Good value.
- nschreck96 (8/5): College visit - Great location in town, near restaurants, and very close to SUNY Cortland campus. Room was on the small side, but fine for 2 people for a brief overnight stay. WiFi worked great. Very quiet, had a good nights sleep here and overall a great deal. Would stay again.
- rashroyer (8/5): Really nice room exceeded my expectations, but one concern - The first thing I noticed, after reading the reviews, was that they appeared to have slapped a fresh coat of paint on the exterior, so that it looked less down-at-the-heels than I expected, though the parking lot is still a bit scary. The room was a bit dated, but it was spacious and quite comfortable, and everything worked, including the wi-fi. No breakfast, but I knew that going in. We had a very pleasant one-night stay there.
The only real downer is that this was the second room we were given. The first one had a strong odor of gas, probably from the in-room heater. The manager on duty promptly and cheerfully gave us a different room, which was appreciated, but the gas odor was strong enough that it makes me a bit uneasy about the place. Also, when I checked out, the front desk clerk was not wearing a mask in spite of the signs stating the customers were required to.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The place was a dump. TV didnât work and room temp was 59. Middle of winter
- Daria (2/5): DISAPPOINTED - Did not stay dis not feel safe I have breathing issues and upon seeing the room it smelled of stale cigarettes . I had to book another place to stay, very DISAPPOINTED
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was very clean and nice. The owner was also very nice. Check-in was easy. It was very noisy outside at night. I was able to sleep through it but my partner was awake until 3am. I'm not sure if the owners are aware of the constant noise and door-knocking all night long. Our room had a microwave and refrigerator which is really convenient when traveling. You cannot beat the price.
- Becky (8/5): - The staff was super friendly. Convenient location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was kind and good but place was a little too noisy with people outside and next room. Okay for the price. No breakfast.
- Elaine (6/5): - Itâs definitely older but clean. They spray a deodorant in the room to make it smell good but they over did it and it bothered me.
- Ref (8/5): - Other than being close to loud traffic, it was a good place to stay. Everything worked fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was a nightmare. I reserved and payed for one night but preferred to loose my money than to sleep in there. I had to find another hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners were very friendly and accommodating! The rooms I found were super clean! The only downside I found was being so close to the cop shop, many sirens throughout the night. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay!
- SueLehighton (10/5): Donât judge by first glance - Booked this motel for the price and reviews on this site. Staying in town for volleyball tournament at local college, just needed a place to sleep and clean up. Outside is a old and a little run down, but room was very clean with new carpeting, comfortable bed, refurbished bathroom, refrigerator and microwave. No coffee in room or breakfast, but well worth the price. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The manager was very helpful and very upbeat. There was a comfortable chair in my room.
- K (8/5): - Very clean and staff was friendly. It was a good location for our needs. We were on the ground floor and only heard people outside once.
- melb0525 (8/5): Surprisingly good - Doesnât look like much but was surprisingly clean and comfy. Donât judge this book by its cover. Shouldnât have paid as much as I did through booking.com
Located quite close to SUNY Cortland and just steps away from Frank and Maryâs Diner, CVS, and Main Street
- Charles (8/5): - Great stay. Would do it again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were spacious and clean for the price it was a good place to stay
If they updated it would look great
But manager was pleasant I didnât really see any other staff
I would stay again
- igr (10/5): Excellent for our needs - We stopped here for one night to break up a drive south. We did not have reservations. The check in person was very friendly and the paperwork was completed quickly. The room and bathroom were spotless, the beds comfy, and the hotel quiet overnight. The bathroom had soap, shampoo and hand cream; no conditioner supplied. The room had a fridge, TV with a zillion stations, wifi, no coffee maker that I saw. The location is central and we were able to walk to an excellent restaurant for dinner. In the morning it was easy to find a place for coffee and a bakery for some scones! Do not be put off by the outside of this motel. It is excellent value and we will be staying here again!
- Mary Ann (6/5): Basic Motel. Comfortable bed. - Definitely no frills motel on a relatively quiet street in center of Cortland. Bed was comfortable. Sheets were old but clean. General fixtures were old and low budget. Room seemed clean.
Air conditioner was on when I arrived, so the room was cool which was a nice touch.
It was ok as a stopover, but I wouldnât want to stay for longer.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Too noisy, air conditioning is too loud. And it seems the bed sheet didnot changed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Appeared very clean - turned on light switch to come in bulb "out"
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great prices for the price. Quiet and clean. Fantastic location!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean but... - Non smoking Room was clean but smelled heavily of stale smoke. Very basic room. Comfortable beds. Cinder block walls.could use some updating. But for what we needed it worked out fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - no clean no good service no facilitties no more get there
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Itâs a clean place for a quick overnight. No frills, but that was expected for the price.
- Stan (10/5): An oldy but goody - Imperial Motel is in the center of town making it convenient to walk to a variety of eating venues. It is an older building but well maintained. Staff was friendly and efficient. When I travel solo I want a clean room, clean sheets, hot running water, a good shower, a comfortable bed and a tv at a reasonable price. I don't need any fancy amenities. Imperial delivered all of the above. Free WiFi was also available.
- tired-lee (8/5): - Downtown Cortland, very walk-able area, with places to eat and shop very close. :)
The outside of the motel is dated, but my room was very nice, comfy bed, microwave, small fridge with freezer, {bigger than most hotels}
the room had a small table with 2 chairs, setup like an efficiency apartment, you could stay here for an extended time.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very close to Downtown which was nice. They really need to update the rooms.
- Gina (8/5): Clean and close to Cortland University - I had a comfortable stay and would return
- Verified traveler (4/5): - the room was ok clean enough and functional but the environment was not a safe feeling
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the service & cleaniliness of the room. Job well done!
- SuperCat (8/5): - Itâs better than what it looks from outside. However the heater is a problem. Itâs too hot or too cold, so the two nights we did not get much sleep. But the staff is super friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Imperial Motel has improved quite a bit. The room was spotless
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stay here every time I visit my son who is a student at SUNY Cortland. The staff are always friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I love the location as it is in downtown, yet noise has never been an issue.
- DE (10/5): - Friendly staff and everything in great shape. A reliable and recommended motel at agreat rate.
- Dominic (6/5): - This was my second stay at the Imperial Motel. Check in was quick and efficient, the room was fine space-wise. Microwave, fridge, TV, WiFi all good.
Unlike my previous stay, the room could have been a little cleaner and oddly my bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke, likely from an adjoining room or space which was annoying. Luckily it did not last all night nor did it affect my stay too much in the main room, but was unpleasant.
For the price, and given the location and ease of access to roads and restaurants etc, I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were being updated for my stay there. it was nice to see that the motel is doing its best to keep up with new things. the rooms, bed and bathrooms were clean. no bed bugs to report, which is good! Very close to restaurants and bars and CVS. Area is safe for walking but can be loud during the day with traffic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Imperial is perfect if you're looking for a clean basic room at a low price.
- Gina (8/5): When I need a local motel, I willl book here! - Very happy with the cleanliness of the room and comfort of the bed. Also, having a microwave was great.
- John (8/5): - Very very nice room at amazing cost and very friendly and professional front desk. Those aspects were perfect.
The only complaint is that there is a lot of space around the door that lets in cold air and makes it so that things happening outside sound very close as if thereâs no wall between you. Also, the cable box was not working properly and had to be reset a few times and the internet was slow. However, for the cost, it was very much worth it and an overall very pleasant experience.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When we checked in, the heater in the room didn't work so we had to be moved to another room. The windows and door need to be replaced. We could hear EVERYTHING. Bed hard.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room is cozy and clean
There is a CVS across the street
- Mick (10/5): - Very nice room for the price. Flat screen tv, microwave, refrigerator. The bathroom was remodeled and clean. The motel is close to the diner and downtown
- Verified traveler (4/5): No Heat - There was no heat and bugs. Were told we were gonna get a space heater but never did.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - not too bad, the location is great, close to the city and highway
- Patrick (8/5): Great service! - Stayed overnight as a pit stop on a road trip. The room had dated decor, but the fixtures had recently been upgraded, as had the bed. If you're looking for a basic room at a basic price, this is the right place. The big shout out goes to the office staff - - my son left his stuffed animal, and they took the time to find it, stuck under the headboard, and got it ready for mailing - - thank you!!!
I also recommend eating breakfast at the diner a couple of doors down - great service and price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean, basic, heating unit really old, exterior gives a poor first impression, safe
- Erik (8/5): Met Expectations. - Imperial Motel is a very basic place - nothing fancy. The space was clean and had the necessities. It met expectations. The road outside is quite loud all night, but that's the motel owner's fault.
If you want a place to sleep and keep going, this is just fine.
- Daisy (8/5): Pleasant stay - We were very please with the room and the area the hotel is at..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great value if just looking for a clean nights stay
- Shawn (10/5): - Nice stay at the Imperial Motel. It looks a little sketchy from the outside but the rooms are newly updated, the beds are comfy and clean and the carpet was new. The room had no coffee maker which was a downer and there wasn't any ice in the ice machine, but otherwise a nice stay. Loads of cable channels and free wifi as well.
- Martha (8/5): - Staff is very accommodating. The motel is very clean and in a great downtown location. Rooms could use some updating but still comfortable. Excellent quick running hot water in shower.
- David (8/5): Pleasant stay at the Imperial - Letâs be clear. The Imperial Motel is not a luxury establishment, but for the price we paid for a holiday weekend overnight I thought it was a great deal. The room was clean and comfortable and while no breakfast was provided, there was an old school diner almost next door that delivered a decent breakfast. It was a good place for an overnight and I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was updated, comfortable, and very clean. Good value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good place for price - This was a clean quite little motel. The staff were very nice. I would def say there again if I need a place to stat,
- Jacqueline (8/5): Convenient, Comfortable & Clean - Clean and comfortable, courteous check in, very convenient to SUNY and town
- Liz (8/5): - Pleasant, easy check in. Nice room with a fridge and microwave. But the WiFi didnât work and we had to call the front desk to bring us towels, as there were only 2 hand towels in the bathroom when we arrived.
- Mary (10/5): - While lacking some amenities and the building and furnishings have seen a few years, the rooms are impeccably clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. In fact, the beds are more comfortable then many higher star rated and priced hotels/motels than I have stayed. As someone with back and hip issues, this is high praise. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. For the location and price, it is an excellent value.
