The property is truly magical, a beautiful castle set along a river and surrounded by nature, perfect for relaxing and enjoying outdoor activities. The rooms are clean, spacious, and very comfortable, while the common areas are cozy and well maintained. The hotel restaurant is excellent, offering outstanding cuisine and a high-quality dining experience. The real highlight of our stay was the staff: extremely professional, kind, and genuinely helpful. A level of service that is rare to find nowadays. A true five-star experience, especially ideal for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway.

We had an event in one of the meeting rooms where 20 relatives got together and talked of "family". The charcuterie and fruit trays were superb. Everyone had an enjoyable get together. We happened to stay there the night the hotel was hosting a dinner for their parent company's marketing department (the hotel is owned by a pharma company), and the dinner went late and was very loud. We didn't book a luxury hotel in the middle of nowhere - literally on an island in the woods - to hear thumping bass coming through the floor of our room until 11 pm. It's a very pricey hotel and I found that disrespectful to the guests.

- UKtravellerdoc (10/5): A Magical Island Retreat — Truly One of Slovenia’s Finest - Hotel Grad Otočec is a truly special place — set on a small island nestled between two gentle streams of the Krka River, surrounded by lush greenery and serene nature. The setting is straight out of a fairy tale and offers a peaceful, relaxing escape from the outside world. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality. A lovely lady at the reception greeted us in the beautiful castle lobby, brought us a glass of champagne, and personally took care of our check-in while retrieving our luggage from the car. This level of service set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a large bathroom and thoughtful amenities. While I personally would have preferred furniture with a bit more historical charm to match the character of the castle, the room was nonetheless elegant and comfortable. The complimentary minibar (soft drinks and water), coffee machine, and excellent nightly turndown service were all appreciated touches. We stayed for both dinner and breakfast, and dinner was nothing short of exceptional — truly Michelin star quality in both taste and presentation. Breakfast was also delightful, served with the same warmth and care by the attentive staff. The front desk and restaurant staff were consistently kind, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. Their genuine hospitality really enhances the overall experience. All in all, Hotel Grad Otočec is one of the best hotels we've stayed at in Slovenia — a perfect blend of nature, comfort, and refined service. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a luxurious yet tranquil getaway.

We enjoyed a 2-nights stay, spending relaxing days in the inner courtyard, the surrounding park and woods, but also visiting the golf course and enjoying a good coffee and fruit tarts on the terrace. The staff offers outstanding services, while food is prepared by a well-known chef, with work experience in awarded (Michelin) restaurants - as we were told. Highly recommended while visiting Slovenia.

- HollyC757 (8/5): Unique setting, some pros and cons - Historic castle in a park setting with swans floating by on the river so a charming first impression. A lovely stone courtyard. The room was ok, all dark wood and fairly small considering the price. Our big disappointment was the food. The breakfast was fine and in fact we enjoyed the treat of local smoked trout. We had booked a package with a dinner and that’s where we felt disappointed. Most of the dishes were fairly mediocre- we expected more from a Michelin rated place. The server was young and enthusiastic but needed more training as service was not very professional. Two dishes that did stand out were 1) a “ deconstructed” caprese salad with basil ice cream and 2) a dessert which was not only beautifully presented but very good, and I am not usually one for merengue based pastries. Photos of both included. One outstanding offering of the hotel was the chance to go to an affiliated spa. We picked the one about 1/2 hour away because the hotel staff said it was the nicer one; it was very large with many choices and excellent massages at a fair price ( only had to pay for massages). The hotel receptionists were all exceedingly nice and helpful- gold stars to all of them. We took a several hour hike one day- not a lot else to do in the area.We went out of our way while in Slovenia to have this unique stay and I am not sorry we did but I’d more recommend it if you are going to be in the area anyhow, rather than thinking of it as a destination. It might be okay for a weekend get away if you are fairly local.

Additionally, the location is both beautiful and peaceful, especially at this time of year, making it the perfect retreat. The restaurant menu could be slightly improved, particularly with more options for children, which would be helpful for families traveling with kids. That said, please don’t get me wrong — the food itself was absolutely outstanding!

Upon arrival we were forced to book dinner at timing that was not suitable for us. The room was not ready although our reservation was prepaid many days before and we arrived after 18:30. The hotel DOES NOT HAVE SPA nor a swimming pool as advertised on booking.com. They offer free access to the spa of another hotel located across the bridge, about 500 meters away, but they don’t offer transportation, so you need to walk 500m In your towel and slippers in the winter 🤦🏽♀️ staff is undertrained and the restaurant food was ridiculous for a Michelin star. No taste and awfully slow service. If you order a bottle of wine, be prepared to serve yourself the whole evening as they don’t attend. Two wrong meals arrived out of six ordered. Most unpleasant however was the big fat lie about the SPA.

The facilities, such as they were, were all within the castle walls, we suffered from an internal corporate event restricting our stay, there was a constant annoying hum in the room (probably the water system) which the hotel staff tried to help with but couldn’t resolve, and the leisure facilities were at a different venue around 1km away across a main road. Sadly, an over-priced and disappointing venue.

It was a pleasure spending the weekend over there , walking around , dining in th castle and enjoying the surroundings. This is not the high season so you make want to book some other month if you wish a more Vivid experience. By far, the very best steak Tatar I have ever tried in my entire life! - Y5054WKjohna (10/5): Special experience - I booked two days for my wife's 60th birthday. The restored castle sits on a lovely island in the middle of a river. It was very special -- fabulous setting, service and restaurant. We hope to return one day.
