- Shaine (4/5): - This is my second time to RIU Republica and while I usually swear by the RIU brand this was beyond a disappointment. The highlight was Alejandro- he was GREAT!! The rest of the staff was rude, less than helpful and everyone had an attitude! There was a flood in my room and when reporting at the front desk I was asked what did I want them to do? I never got a washcloth the entire stay! This was not a good representation of the reputation of this chain. The food at the sports bar was not edible! The resort food was below average and subpar at best! Needless to say what should’ve been a relaxing good time was a flooded room, rude encounters and couldn’t wait to leave! I was highly disappointed with this 5day stay. RIU you owe me!

- Shakyra (2/5): - This was the worst vacation I’ve ever taken. I am a regular at the RIU’s. However this was my first time at this location. We were not welcomed at arrival. No bell person. The food was terrible..except the jerk chicken by the beach. We were told at check in that the restaurants do not require reservations. They do. The rooms are decent. However only one outlet in the entire room. The phone did not work. Television kept powering off. We changed rooms. The phone did not work, the toilet seat was unattached to the toilet. The staff only spoke English when they were trying to pick you up. One guy (maintenance) was drooling over my breast. I thought I was going to get sexually assaulted. We were in the elevator together. The male staff was completely unprofessional. They would ask me “ are you sharing a room with someone?” “ Do you have a boyfriend?” In a restaurant if you ask a question like “ what kind of white wine do you have? The server simply turns his back on you as if you didn’t ask a thing. You cannot get info from the staff. Not a smile..nothing. The beach is nice. However they don’t have people to assist you with the dirty lounge chairs. Plus there weren’t enough towels so sometimes we had to wait 45 min for a towel for the beach. It was a total disappointment. I would not recommend this property to my worst enemy.

- Yenifer Tatiana (8/5): - I stayed at Riu República and overall the experience was good. The hotel has very good food with a lot of variety in the restaurants, which I really appreciated. However, there are some details that need improvement: the bed sheets had a very unpleasant smell. I asked to have them changed, but even after that they still smelled the same, which made it hard to sleep comfortably. The air conditioning wasn’t very effective either and didn’t cool the room enough. On top of that, some of the staff were not very friendly — when I asked questions or needed guidance, the attitude was a bit rude, which definitely affects the experience. In conclusion, the hotel offers good food and entertainment, but comfort and customer service could be improved a lot.

- Ghias U (4/5): - This is my seventh stay at a Riu property. I’ve previously stayed in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cabo, and Jamaica, and now Punta Cana. I’ve always enjoyed Riu resorts in the past, but this trip was terrible. At this resort, the restaurants closed by 8:30 p.m., which was very disappointing. Service at other Riu properties has always been excellent, but in Punta Cana it was the opposite. The staff overall came across as unfriendly—it wasn’t just one or two people, it felt like the entire resort culture. I tried to dine at the steakhouse twice but could never get a reservation, even when I arrived as early as 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. The Japanese buffet served the exact same food every day, and the overall food quality was awful. Communication was also a problem. Except for the reservation staff, hardly anyone else spoke or understood English, which made things even more frustrating. Lastly, I upgraded my room at check-in to get a balcony with a view, but my balcony had no view at all—another disappointment.

- Kun Cheong (6/5): - Wednesday the 24 of September 2025 the room started getting warm. Thought it would cool off by night. Called front desk Thursday at 2 pm about problem, they said they would send maintenance. 425 pm I went to front desk and she said she called the technician. Waited till 6 pm tech came and said will be one minute. At 730 no show no call so I went to dinner and had my wife stay and I’ll bring back something for her to eat. 8pm on way back met a manager I think name Angelo and told him of the problem. He informed me that the ac was out in the entire building. I told him that had someone called and informed me that that my wife would have accompanied me to dinner rather then waiting in the room waiting for tech guy. He apologized and said he’ll do something for the inconvenience, nothing. Seen beverages guy in hallway and asked for two seven up. Rude guy said all ready been to the room today. I told him it rain all day and no ac in room so we consumed more cold beverages. We rude the first week of our stay. And the last time we seen him was telling us that because of “do not disturb” sign on door they didn’t service the room. As for the hotel itself, hallway echo making it noisy, people yelling, talking very loud and knocking on door like a bunch of kids. You would think that it’s a adult only hotel that people would act their age instead of a group of kids. I’ve stayed at Riu in Costa Rica, Panama and bamboo Punta Cana before. This was the worse. Will not go back there again!!!

The resort itself is priced perfectly for its accommodation, my only gripe is the amount of flies and mosquitos inside the restaurants. If your looking for inexpensive but fun, RIU Republica is the spot.

We complained and then they moved us to better room; there were some problems here but those were resolved, ultimately, to our satisfaction. When complained about safe and AC system not working the man who had assigned us the bad room wanted us to move back to that room; we declined. This man was not fair at all. When checking in he told us that he was going to upgrade our room that normally costs more but he would waive the charges and it was upto us to pay anything if we wanted to; as mentioned initially above, the room was bad, forget about that being an upgrade.

So we paid 40$ to get there once we got there we have to switch rooms 2 after we finally made it to the 3 room we just end up settling.. we was supposed to have a room by the beach. Then when it was time to leave We scheduled transportation to get to the airport we were was told to be downstairs by 1030 am which we was ready at 10 am to only be told they came at 9:45 am which meant we again had to pay another 40$ to the airport I was very disappointed.

This was particularly unexpected as I have previously stayed at this property and had a pleasant experience. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this property to anyone nor would I stay there in the future.

Pool - please put dye in the pools because many people told us they were peeing. Also weird smell sometimes around the left pool on the beach side. While the hotel and Expedia were able to send all kinds of Junk emails to spend more money on things to do, they FAILED to notify us of the most single important piece of information. When we reached to Expedia to see if they would provide some kind of Credit for future trip or refund, they denied it. So, they are basically interested in monies (no fault there), but they will not have your interest in mind, which is important in the Hotel and Tourist services. So, they are going to take your money and run. Be careful, protect yourselves.

- Efrain Villegas (2/5): - The hotel was poorly maintained, unclean, and noticeably outdated, and the staff’s rude demeanor made it feel as though assisting guests was an inconvenience.

- Marjorie (10/5): - The property was clean and the staff was friendly. The check in process was quick and easy. The room was spacious and clean. The wait staff was good. The food looked ok at the buffet but i didn't eat much of it as I'm vegan and the options weren't that many to choose from based on my dietary restriction but the other members of my party said the food was OK. My only issue was the amenities options or lack there of on the App. There's nothing impressive to me about bingo and kahoot as your main source of daily entertainment at an all inclusive resort. Otherwise the resort was great.

- AnnaBelle (2/5): - I didn’t receive the accommodation I paid for. I was literally moved four different times do to tv not working,no air for and no water, need to be compensated for my inconvenience and my ruined vacation,
- PATRICIO (6/5): - Staff needs more training in customer services they do not pay attention to the guest needs, usually you had to address needs so they can get you coffee, drink or simple utensils. If you said something they will argue with you. It was a long week of stress.
- Rosalyn Marie (2/5): - I faced a frustrating two-hour wait for check-in, despite having completed the online check-in process. This was an unexpected and disappointing start to our vacation. Once we finally reached our room, we discovered that the air conditioning was not functioning. The following morning, I inquired at the front desk about switching rooms. I was informed that a technician would come to inspect the issue, and if it wasn't resolved, I should return at 2 PM for a room change. Unfortunately, no technician arrived, and when we returned. They switched us to room 148. The air conditioning appeared to be working overnight but failed again the next evening. Although we had requested a different room and were told there were no alternatives available. After waiting for a technician, someone finally came to assist us. While the air conditioning improved slightly, it was still uncomfortably warm. Additionally, I was alarmed to find termite tunnels in the bathroom, and I suspect there may be a sewer issue in that building, as there was a foul smell outside our room. Communication was another challenge; the phone line didn’t work. The pools are disgusting. I have pictures.
