• Seraina Mirjam (10/5): - Was für eine tolle Unterkunft. Wir waren leider nur eine Nacht dort aber haben es sehr genossen. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und die Besitzer sind sehr sehr gastfreundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Zimmer war sauber, hat alles was man braucht, bequemes Bett und ruhige Lage. Zum Flughafen in Lahad Datu sind es mit dem Auto 5 min je nach Verkehr. Wir haben das Abendessen sowie da Frühstück dazu gebucht. Genuss pur! Es war mit so viel Liebe zum Detail zubereitet und hat sensationell geschmeckt. Ich würde behaupten dort haben wir am besten gegessen in ganz Borneo.
• Marjolijn (10/5): An experience we would not forget. Thank you Itisha and Simon! - Staying at Haks feels like staying at friends in a big house with a pool. It’s an oasis in the middle of the town with a nice pool to cool down in . Beautiful decorative plants around and very attentive people to make you feel welcome. Simon can arrange day trips as we did snorkeling. The breakfast and dinner was delicious and made with great care with products of their own farm. A visit to the farm was an eye opener. Because the owner shows local farmers to use the land in a way so they can harvest many more crops without the need of fertilizer. Really something to think about in the world of palm oil production. Perhaps we would have liked a bathroom en-suite but it was not possible. Other rooms had one. The bathroom we shared was very tidy and clean so no worries.

• Kelsi (10/5): I would recommend this place to everyone! - Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel so welcome. They were great to acknowledge our birthdays and the food was amazing! We also enjoyed the resident cat! He was lovely.
• Mitzi (10/5): I think it was the best place I have ever stayed! - What an absolute gem of a place to stay!! My husband and I, and our two adult children, stayed in Simon and Tisha's beautiful home for four nights, resting between two busy tours. And we have never felt more welcome or well looked after. We were welcomed with a beautifully presented cold drink on arrival, and shown to our spacious rooms with good airconditioning. The gardens are beautiful and the delightful pool is a welcome relief from the tropical heat. A cool drink arrives within minutes of you resting beside the pool. There is an upstairs balcony where you can relax, surrounded by orchids, and an indoor sitting area with tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was different every day, two courses, beautifully presented and delicious. The evening meals were so special, we decided to have three of the four meals there as we could not imagine finding anywhere else serving anything remotely as wonderful. Simon and Tisha were so attentive, and answered our multitude of questions about Borneo and especially about sustainable farming. We went with Simon to see his farm, and it was wonderful to see some of his produce in our meals each evening. Thankyou for sharing some of your limited supply from your first crop of cocoa beans when you included chocolate in my surprise birthday banquet, served in the romantic area by the pool. And thankyou also to the lovely ladies working there, each and every one was so lovely. I would seriously love to have another holiday in Borneo, just so I could return to Haks Boutique BnB! Nothing could have been improved. Except that I am apparently not very skilled at getting out of a hammock, and nearly had to ring for assistance. But once I worked out the technique the two hammocks were very comfortable.

• Maruska (10/5): An experience in itself! Can not recommend enough - I would honestly struggle to describe this place without using superlatives. The owners and all their staff are so knowledgeable about sustainable farming and the food they grow and serve, and they explain things well in English. The food was fresh, healthy and very tasty, and they took the time to explain ingredients and where things come from. They did not just accommodate our dietary requirements, one gluten free and one vegetarian, but went much further. They grind their own bean and lentil flour and made me gluten free roti and a pancake, which was really special. We were very grateful for that - thank you again. Even less would already have been appreciated. The place is very clean, comfortable and calm. Huge rooms, very smartly equipped with enough storage space (also in the bathroom). There are no single-use cups. The water gets served with fresh lemons and limes. Tea, black as well as mixed white coffee are available all the time. It is an outstanding spot to relax before heading to the jungle or the coast that is actually an experience in itself. The photos do not really do it a justice. There are many spaces to sit and unwind, both inside and outside the house, all with shade and either fans or AC. Pickups also worked smoothly and the drivers knew the place. Overall it feels like a relaxed home, but is run with professionalism, care and by very warm people.

• David (10/5): Haven of tranquility - A haven of peace with friendly and charming staff. Enjoyed fantastic food in the garden. The pool is great for cooling off. The hosts explain the meals carefully and answer any questions patiently. Definitely THE place to stay - and eat - in LD. Minor points only: The bedside lamps could have softer bulbs or shades. Bathroom door squeaked a bit. Some grit at the shallow end of the pool.

• Agnete (10/5): Amazing stay - Tisha and Simon created such a little beautiful oasis in lahad datu. My mom and I felt very welcomed and sincerely enjoyed our stay here. They are so passionate about their place and it was interesting to hear their stories. Simon arranged a snorkeling/ diving trip with this local guide, Dominic, which was great. We were the only ones on the reefs besides a few fishing boats. The food at the BB was amazing, we really enjoyed the laksa the first night and the breakfast with fresh sourdough, mushrooms and pesto. Yes it is more expensive than eating at a local Malay place, but high quality food made with a lot of care and ingredients from their own farm. The staff are all great and the pool and garden was beautiful. They even sang me a birthday song, when they found out it was my birthday the day before. Once again, big thanks! Only tiny little thing was the toilet was a bit loud, since it had to refill after flushing, but honestly nothing major.

• Miranda (10/5): - We had an absolutely amazing stay in Lahad Datu truly unforgettable, even though it was only for one night! Everything exceeded our expectations. The food was hands down the best we had in all of Sabah fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality natural ingredients. The pool was incredibly refreshing, perfect after a long day. One of the most special touches was the natural passion fruit juice they served us so fresh and delicious! You can really tell they care about using natural products, and they even offer some wonderful natural items for sale. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. They went out of their way to assist us in finding good transportation, which made our trip so much easier. We truly felt welcomed and taken care of. I would definitely come back again without hesitation. The only regret is that we stayed for just one night — I wish it had been longer!

Les nombreux chiens autours sont très bruyants et gâchent la quiétude des lieux surtout la nuit. Nous sommes restés 2 jours et nous aurions bien aimé profiter de la piscine le dimanche après midi mais malheureusement la piscine etait monopolisé par un cours de plongé sous marine ! C'est dommage.

Nicht ganz leicht zu finden, da jegliche Beschilderung am Haus fehlt, hartes, unbequemes Bett. Das Haus liegt unweit des Flughafens - der Flugverkehr ist aber gering - und einer Moschee, deren Muezzin nicht zu überhören ist.

Abendessen und Frühstück waren kulinarische Highlights: frisch, regional und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Vom warmen Empfang bis zur traumhaften Umgebung: 10/10 Punkten!

Frühstück ist auch ein super leckeres „Überraschungsmenü“ hier, wie auch beim Abendessen wird nachgereicht bis man satt ist.

Es ist tolles kleines Boutique Hotel was einem sofort das Gefühl gibt: hier bist du bei Freunden zu Hause. Gastgeber und Personal sind alle samt sehr liebevoll und Aufmerksam. Uns wurde auch bei der Planung von Aktivitäten geholfen wie tauchen und Schnorcheln, aber auch bei der Weiterreise. Es ist der perfekte Ort um sich zu erholen, aber auch ein toller Ausgangspunkt um Dinge zu erleben. Und ganz besonders ist auch das Essen. Für mich eine perfekte Komposition von Zutaten die alle stimmig zueinander passen und sehr leckere Mahlzeiten ergeben. Der Abschied. Zum ersten Mal waren wir wirklich traurig als wir eine Unterkunft verließen, weil hier alles gestimmt hat auch die Herzlichkeit.

• Christian (10/5): Außergewöhnlicher Service! Selten erlebt in unserem Leben. - Tisha und Simon haben einen einmaligen Platz geschaffen. Wer auf der Durchreise oder zwischen Dschungeltouren eine kleine Oase sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Im Garten mit Pool lässt es sich herrlich entspannen, überall ist es sehr sauber, das Personal ist mehr als zuvorkommend (Herausragender Service) und die hausgemachten Speisen und Getränke (auch fleischlos) waren das beste Essen unserer gesamten Borneo-Reise. Frühstück und Abendessen bucht man dazu und spricht dies mit den Gastgebenden ab. Tausend Dank und Terima Kasih! /

We felt like VIP's at the dinner - there was even a flower decoration and a label with our names on it. The hosts - Simon and Ischa - and the staff - Mel and her collegue - were very welcoming and warm. No complaints at all.

Kinabalu was the best we’ve had during our whole 14day Borneo trip. The breakfast is made with ingredients from their local farms, every bite was delicious :) The pool is perfect for a cold plunge during hot days, the beds & pillows were great This stay was absolutely perfect

The people, the food, the hospitality… everything was exceptional. Simon, Itisha and their beautiful staff made sure that I was treated like royalty. They very generously catered for my vegan diet with Itisha creating special meals that looked more like works of art. I returned after my first stay and stayed longer to learn about the important forestry restoration that is their passion project. If you want to know more about sustainable practices and Syntropic farming, then Simon’s your man! Nothing.

• Patrick (10/5): The best place to stay in Borneo! - We originally booked just one night here, but after travelling around Borneo a little, we changed our plans so we could come back - it’s that good! Tisha and Simon are wonderful hosts who make this place truly unforgettable. Their food is outstanding – fresh, creative, and made with so much care (with excellent vegetarian and vegan options too). Every meal was a highlight of our trip. The whole place feels like a peaceful little oasis. We loved relaxing by the pool under the mango tree and watching the birds in their beautiful garden. I’ll always recommend staying here to anyone visiting Borneo – it’s a real gem!
• Margaret (10/5): Best place ever to stay., - Tisha and Simon were wonderful hosts and did many extra things for us..Linda and the other staff were extremely helpful and attentive. We enjoyed being totally spoiled by all of them. The meals Tisha prepared were more than delicious and beautifully arranged. Each tea or meal was a work of art and very special. They use local organic foods as well as those from their own gardens located just outside the city. We were taken here on two occasions and did some walking bird watching. Simon showed us his cocoa, coffee, banana, pineapple, Duran, lime, soursop, jack fruit shrubs and trees, etc, and a huge rubitann,tree ( type of lychee) which we picked and were delicious. Simon made our deserts and homemade ice cream to die for. We also enjoyed the lovely outdoor pool and our huge lovely room. Thanks so much Tisha and Simon. It was perfect in all respects.

En el alojamiento todo está cuidado al detalle: las habitaciones, la limpieza, el jardín…es todo increíblemente bonito, se nota que los dueños le ponen mucho cuidado y cariño. Lo mejor de todo, lo que te deja sin palabras, es la comida. Tanto el desayuno como las cenas que hicimos en el hotel son simplemente sublimes. Tienes la sensación de estar en un restaurante con estrella Michelin, con toda la explicación de los ingredientes y la elaboración de los platos. Volveríamos a Borneo solo para repetir la experiencia y descansar en este alojamiento tan acogedor. Es imposible decir nada malo.
• Vicky (10/5): Impeccable Service - Absolutely stunning service. We were immediately welcomed and treated like royalty. The welcome drink was amazing. Dinner was an absolute delight, so many flavours and the dessert was 10/10. Loved everything about this place. Not much to do in the surrounding area.
• Yvette (10/5): A warm, family-run place with kind hosts that made us feel right at home. - It feels like home! The place seems to be family-run, and everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. They speak English very well, which made everything so easy. We were welcomed with a delicious drink and enjoyed a fantastic breakfast. Our only regret is not having dinner there too—it looked amazing! The shared toilet and shower were in one room, so you had to wait sometimes.

• Kenny (10/5): - Amazing hosts, homestay vibe. Dinner was the best food that we had in our 2 weeks in Borneo by far! Cannot stress enough how amazing the hosts of this accomodation are. Rooms were fairly basic but for the price, fantastic, with air conditioning. Cheap beers as well. Nothing I could possibly think of that could bring the rating down from a 10. One of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed at.

• Steven (10/5): Great hosts and staff. Fantastic meals. We used as an overnighter but will definitely stay longer next time. - Great hosts and staff. Breakfasts were superb. We had an outstanding dinner as well. Fresh local ingredients, each dish explained to give insight to Malaysian food, history and culture. Without a doubt the best meal we had.

Simon helped us to organise a wonderful diving daytrip - which was absolutely amazing & so well organised. To come and stay with Simon and his family was a true local and culinary experience! Thank you for this wonderful time and a big thank you to all of the staff, for being so friendly, happy, kind and super attentive. You made us feel so welcome and took such great care of us. We will miss you! There is absolutely nothing that you could complain!

Super friendly staff, we had a superb, home-cooked dinner (booked prior to going) and breakfast. An absolute highlight of our stay in Borneo. The garden and small pool looked lovely, but we didn’t use due to the weather. Any queries before arrival were swiftly and informatively dealt with. Nothing.

• Riccardo_Passarini (10/5): Lovely stay with great hosts - The owners are wonderful people. Even though we only stayed one night because we were just passing through, we had a great time. The rooms are clean, and the bathroom, even though shared, was spotless, comfortable, and spacious. We were really sorry not to stay longer and enjoy dinner, which, judging by the quality and service, must be excellent.

• Judith (10/5): Heerlijk plekje met een geweldig ontbijt! - Het is een prachtig verblijf met veel groen. Wij hadden een fijne, gezellige kamer. Onze kamer had een eigen trap naar het zwembadje. Er was een balkon met een orchideeëntuin. Hier was het rustig en fijn om te zitten. Het personeel was zeer vriendelijk. En het ontbijt was fantastisch!! De airco in de slaapkamer maakt veel geluid, dit was 's nachts onprettig. Je moest de avond van te voren aangeven hoe laat je wilde ontbijten. Hierdoor was het nodig om te plannen. Hetzelfde geldt voor het avondeten. Je moest 's ochtends doorgeven of je bij het verblijf wilde eten, zodat zij gericht boodschappen op de markt konden doen. Wat er geserveerd werd, was op voorhand niet bekend.
• Dean (10/5): Pretty garden, lovely people and very delicious food. - I can’t say enough good words about our stay; from being welcomed by the lovely people, the pretty garden to sit and read in, to the information on conservation. The only thing better was the food they served which was delicious and the best we have had in Sabah. The only thing we would have changed was to stay an extra night to try the cooking class. The mattress was slightly too firm, that’s it!
