Guest Reviews
- Edward (10/5): - Location, location, location! A rural pub with surrounding rooms within the Chatsworth estate. Lovely staff, great food , clean, simple accommodation.
- Yasmine (10/5): - Lovely place. Pleasant staff. Very clean. Beautiful stop over for visit to Chatsworth.
- Lesley (8/5): - Lovely hotel, excellent service and very clean.
We had a small issue checking in but this was soon resolved.
The village is very quiet, nothing else to do there, so you do need to travel to the other villages if you want other pubs/dining/shops etc.
- stephen (10/5): - Lovely staff, food and location
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely
- Reginald (8/5): - -
- Harry (10/5): A little gem of a place - The room was very nice four poster bed water in room free biscuits nice and clean bathroom breakfast excellent dinner even better wine was all very good just a great place to stay a big thank you to all of the staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect Location - Very nice hotel and room and food, all in an idyllic village location with lovely views.
- Linda (10/5): - We stayed at the Pilsley Inn in order to visit Chatsworth House. The inn is walking distance from the farm shop and from the house itself. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the staff took great care of us.
- Mr John (10/5): - Loved our stay and so close to Chatsworth. Staff were very friendly. Food delicious. Accommodation comfortable.
- Lisa (10/5): - The staff here are incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was gorgeous. We did several walks from our front door and proximity to the farm shop is a major bonus. The bed was so comfortable and we slept really well. I’ll be back soon!
- Suzanne (8/5): Quiet country get away. - Comfortable rooms. Quiet and private. Helpful staff. Only one small issue…. No accessible mirror for make up application… lovely pub and food availibility. Lovely breakfast menu.
- Suyash (4/5): Needs updating for warm summers - The staff are very nice and it’s a clean place to stay. The BIG issue is our room was extremely warm on a day that hit at most 24 Celsius. We had to take turns sleeping in the car as our baby couldn’t stand it, and nor could we. A small table fan was provided, which wasn’t nearly enough. Ideally the room would have a window fan to get cool evening air in so people can sleep. AC may be needed as English summers keep getting warmer, but maybe that isn’t possible in this building…
- Verified traveler (10/5): Devonshire Arms, our favorite… - Wonderful stay at Devonshire Arms as we traveled through the UK. This was our favorite hotel during our trip and our favorite meal. The room was cute and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to visit again.
- Philip (10/5): - We liked the facilities and quietness of the hotel and the lovely room. Breakfast was brilliant.
- Mark (10/5): - Cut above normal pub accommodation
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional In A stunning Location - Excellent from check in to check out, service was exceptional. Outstanding evening meal and the breakfast was freshly cooked to order, stunning location.
Room was small but very well appointed with all the little extras that make a stay special.
Cannot fault and would highly recommend - Thank you to all the staff.
- Margaret (10/5): - I would absolutely come back to the Devonshire Arms. The room was cozy and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the overall feel was just wonderful. My sister and I were able to walk over to the Chatsworth House and take a bus into Bakewell for some shopping. I'll be recommending the Devonshire Arms to anyone and everyone. Thank you for a wonderful time!
- Roger (10/5): - Nice friendly pub
- Michael (10/5): Peak District paradise - A wonderful weekend away, a charming country pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service at is first class, he staff are friendly and attentive, and always happy to help.

- Richard (10/5): Venison dream - Great stay with welcoming friendly staff. Amazing food
- manoj (10/5): - Awsome service and location room very small and feel somehow owners misrepresent accommodation on website photos description
But service was excellent from all staff
- Paul (10/5): Fantastic short break in classic park district - Wonderful old hotel . The only surprise was the steps to get into the comfortable bed! Lovely food. Also free electric charging for my car!
- Jean (10/5): 5 stars all round - The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley was a delightful place to stay. The room was spacious, warm and well equipped. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Cleanliness excellent and food delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly go again.
- Anne (8/5): - Lovely location, lovely pub great food - excellent service
- Jackie (10/5): - Great atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
- Robert (10/5): - A freindly and profwsional hotel
- Russell (10/5): - What a beautiful place in a stunning location. Fantastic local food , expertly cooked.
- Andrew (10/5): Delightful break. - Absolutely wonderful. Comfortable accommodation and pub, which offerred a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. The food was very good, and the staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Social distancing was present in the bar and dining room, with hand gel available both by the pub door and before you enter the bar area.
All tables were throughly cleaned, both inside and in the beer garden, when ever tables were vacated.
Scenery around the Inn and accommodation was stunning.
- Lesley (10/5): Very enjoyable - Great stay. Delightful friendly staff, superb breakfast and a sweet room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Food was great. Staff very friendly. Nice location.
- Lexi (10/5): - My only problem was WiFi that kept going out. Guess service doesn’t connect on those old thick walls. ER. Regardless, inn is lovely & wonderful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quintessential Inn, beautiful scenery overlooking the Peak National district. Quiet, safe, staff very engaging. Dinner reservations suggested. Limited menu but food was good & unique.
- charles (10/5): - Oneovernight very comfortable with good food in lovely area. Shame about early dustmen but not hotel fault
- Arvind (8/5): Lovely location but perhaps over priced - Lovely location and nice food.
Room is quite cramped with very little space for clothes etc
Also no phone in room or in-room service which I found odd in this price range.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very quintessential English. Very good food.
No Wi-Fi connection in the room
- Xiao (10/5): - I love this hotel!!!!! Staff are so friendly. The restaurant is great. The room is beyond our expectations. Though it’s a little bit small but it has everything. They even provide cookies and cute teabags in the room. Location is little bit inconvenient but the bus stop is only 3 minute walk away. As long as you pay attention to the bus time table, you’ll be fine. It’s also close to chatsworth house. Love this place.
- Stephen (8/5): Derbyshire Pilsley - Stayed many times always lovely but this time was very short on staff especially at dinner !
- Jane (10/5): - This is a lovely hotel in a perfect location. Clean, beautifully decorated, good pub/restaurant. The staff is terrific. Only slight minuses - room was fairly small, and there is no comfortable common room for guests to spend time in, just the restaurant. Nevertheless, I have given it five stars because it is such a great place to stay.
- Jaz (10/5): Cosy Comfortable Inn - Good location and base from which to explore the Peak District.
Great food served with a smile and courtesy.
Very friendly attentive staff. Cosy and friendly hotel/Inn.
Car park a little small but adjoining building did cater for extra spaces.
- Susan (10/5): - wonderful service and ambiance in the beautiful Peak District. Quaint hamlet - an unbeatable experience! Several complimentary items come with room including baked goods from Chatsworth Farm Shop. Good food and free breakfast w/room. Five minutes drive from Chatsworth House.
- Michael (10/5): Great quick visit location to explore the area - Great pub in the hotel. The food was wonderful. Rooms were very clean and the staff was friendly. Chatsworth Manor was close by to visit in the Peak District. Just a great place to visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good welcome and service . Food was very good but a slightly restricted choice . The fun of the four poster was excellent . Good value ..
- Rachel (10/5): Visiting old haunts! - Wonderful night - location, ambience, service - all excellent
- Katherine (10/5): Fabulous Hotel in the Peak District! - Fabulous hotel. Really comfortable, nicely appointed rooms. Modern bathrooms. Quiet. So lovely and quiet! The hotel is in a beautiful, country setting - if you need to walk to a lot of shops, this is not the place. If you need quiet country lanes, good food, interesting rooms, and great Peak District views, then this is the perfect place. Easy parking. Low-key. Walk to the Chatsworth Farm Shop. Staff are lovely and helpful. Feels more homey than most hotels but does not have the quirkiness of a B&B. (The only downside I have was that they were short-staffed during my stay and due to the size of the place, that was obvious to the guests.)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was so beautifully restored and the room was so very comfortable with the exception of no blackout shades which made the room too light at 5:00 in the morning. With that exception, it was great.
- Nicky (8/5): - Conveniently close to Chatsworth Flower show. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. The one dinner I had was delicious! Were I to go back to the show next year I would possibly stay there again.
- derek (10/5): Great location for Chatsworth visit. - Excellent one night stay. Good food and spotless room, including freebies in room.
- Beth (10/5): Lovely characterful hotel in a great location - Lovely characterful hotel in a great location. We were upgraded in to a four poster room. Although the bed dominated the room there was still room for a sofa, desk and chairs. In addition there was a very spacious ensuite with a modern finish and great fittings. The staff were very welcoming and keen to help.
The villagers of Pilsley were very friendly. Just up the road is the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop which has a brilliant selection of foodstuffs for those wanting the odd snack, souvenirs or gifts. The shop also has a café attached which we visited very day of our stay for afternoon tea. A fantastic selection of cakes and generous portions.
The hotel restaurant served a variety of food of very good quality and substantial breakfasts.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Inn - Good location, great cuisine and atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
Close to all local places we wanted to visit. A very comfortable place to stay though all too short
- Verified traveler (10/5): Debonshire - Good service and location. Room is small
- Hatem (10/5): Wonderful hotel - Lovely hotel. room was quaint, clean and comfortable. Bathroom was large and well appointed.
Service was excellent. I would highly. Recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pilsey- The best of two Devonshire Arms - We stayed at The Cavendish Hotel on the Chatsworth Estate last October and loved the area and Chatsworth itself. The Devonshire Arms in Pilsey is also lovely, but more casual. We had a room in the farmhouse with a four poster bed and it was very comfortable. Note it sems every village in Derbyshire has a pub/inn called the Devonshire Arms so you DO need to specify Pilsey to get the correct one. Even more confusing there is another Devonshire Arms on the Chatsworth Estate at Beely which is only about 3 miles away from the one in Pilsey. The Beeley version has a newly remodeled restaurant whereas Pilsey is still a bit rustic but the food is quite good st both. Pilsey is a great base from which to explore the Peak Dustrict and the hotel has lots of free parking and s friendly helpful staff. Just a few hundred yards from Pilsey is the Chatsworth Farm Shop which is well worth a visit. There is a restaurant at the farm shop that does nice breakfast, lunch and tea but closes for dinner.
- Stephen (10/5): Worth it - Very comfy accommodation, clean and friendly
Good food using local produce
Great buffet breakfast
- Tim (10/5): Beautiful country inn and pub. - Very friendly staff. Beautifully situated in the village near the Chatsworth Estate. In fact owned by the Duke and Duchesses of Devonshire. Tranquility and a four poster bed!
