• Brian (8/5): I was attending an army reunion, we chose this hotel because its location in the midlands lent itself to all attendees - A very old building with a somewhat sympathetic conversion into a hotel, the rooms were adequate and provided good service, the staff were helpful and efficient .

First day breakfast was very unfortunately the second day the cooked items had been left under the hot lamps for a long time and both the bacon, eggs and sausage had dried out and over ooked but overal a great stay Second day breakfast

• Katie (7/5): Lovely old, quirky building in a great location with pretty gardens just a v small double bed. - Pleasant staff, nice sheets, pillows, towels and shower. Bed comfortable. For me, when booking a 'small double' I expected this to be a smaller room with a normal double bed in, not a very small double bed. This wasn't a problem for me on my own but for those in couples found it exceptionally small. Room didn't have any view other than a brick wall outside 😅 but just to sleep and get ready in was perfect.

Called reception and they said they would send someone up but they never arrived. Temperature seemed better the next day. Also mentioned to reception when checking out that a non slip bath mat is necessary as the bath is very slippy and both myself and friend both had health problems and were very worried about slipping when using the bath. Also reported to reception that the shower temperature couldn’t be adjusted and was set far too hot. These issues do need to be attended to.

The gardens are lovely and the restaurant was outstanding, we had a birthday meal there one evening, it was faultless. In need of refurbishment, rooms very dated all needed a bit of TLC however it was clean, housekeepers were trying their best.

Have stayed before and would - We visit often, but first time in room 36 As you will see there is no big negative but the cleanliness in room 36 could be much improved due to gather dust on furniture and in particular at the base of the bed. The reason there is no big negative is because the unite carvings are difficult to clean for obvious reasons, a simple deep clean on the room would make it much improved. There was also a lightbulb that did not work and the electrics went off on the ring main but were corrected quite quickly with a smile.

• S7420TMmariec (10/5): Absolutely Fantastic A**** - Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. This was for a surprise 80th birthday meal for my mother in law who was only expecting to have lunch with half of the party, as the other half of the guests was the surprise. We were in the Stone and Ivy restaurant and choose the 3 course meal. Which may i add was not only exceptional value for money but cooked and presented perfectly, so complements to the chef and kitchen. Thank you to reception for helping to hide the surprise guests and a huge thankyou to the staff in the restaurant. Nothing was to much trouble. Highly recommend

• Robert (7/5): The hotel is dog friendly and well situated for the National Exhibition Centre (NEC). - The surrounding grounds were excellent as we were accompanied by two dogs. The room was adequate but a little small with two dogs. The evening meal offered sufficient variety, and the restaurant facilities were fine. We had to leave early for Crufts dog show and so we did not have breakfast at the hotel. Car parking was good. There was nothing in particular and our stay was short.

Breakfast was fresh and delicious with a good variety. The decor was country chic and the atmosphere was lovely and cosy. Due to the properties age there was some areas of the bedrooms which could be much improved. The windows were mouldy held a lot of condensation. There were also signs of age in the bathroom. Having said this the bedrooms and bathroom were clean.

They also need to be more transparent about the rooms you book as the - Nice grounds, nice building, staff were friendly, bed was comfortable. Overall cleanliness was good. The room wasn’t what was in the picture, the wallpaper was peeling off, the shower was held in with tape, the bath side was coming off and leaked all over the floor when showering, the view was of an adjacent rooftop and back alley. The kitchen closed at 9 and the bar at 10.

• TAS100 (8/5): New Year’s Eve - What a lovely time we had to celebrate NYE. Food was excellent! Party was fab with a great DJ. Lovely room and table decorations. We were lucky to have a four poster room which was very spacious. Breakfast was excellent. Every member of staff was extremely polite and helpful. Special mention to Graham who looked after us so well. Very reasonable too! Thanks for a great time!

Food was almost cold, not even tepid! cold. Not good value. Hubby couldnt eat his turkey. Woken up at 6.30/7am on a sunday to incredibly loud music from downstairs, not what you want after a night out

• M1234HPkarenb (2/5): AVOID- hefty price Tag Terrible Food!!! - Totally disappointing pre xmas meal bought as gift for dear friend. £32 a head totally not worth money. Room cold no atmosphere, table had no tablecloth, cheap crackers, waiter brought cutlery over after each course as table not set right to start with. No character no atmosphere empty and food dire. Pats starter served like out a packet from Aldi, processed turkey dinner with what seemed like frozen reheated stuffing balls and Xmas pudding again small microwaved dessert drowned in custard. All in all no way worth £32 a head could have had better at Toby carvery or chained pub. Paid for special Xmas meal as treat for friend left disappointed and underwhelmed. Didn’t complain when there as didn’t want to upset lady we were treating but emailed manager afterwards. Reply was basically come again 20% discount offered. Even when I said I live two hour round trip away so wouldn’t waste petrol money to return they offered us nothing! No explanations to my complaints just sorry come and pay again. Avoid this place over rated over priced terrible customer service!!!

• ron461 (2/5): Badly in need of refurbishment and the small double rooms are only fit for a single occupant. - We booked a small double room but were very disappointed as it was the smallest room I have ever staid in. The bed was only just bigger than a single bed and because the room was so small the bed was only 6 inches from the wall on one side so was impossible to get out of the bed on that side. The room was badly in need of decoration, the paint work was dirty and chipped. The wallpaper was tatty and the carpet had seen better days. The small wardrobe door didn't shut properly as it was fitted incorrectly. The plug in the sink was stuck in so didn't empty so I had to empty down the toilet.
• Green (3/5): Very disappointing not a place I will be staying at again - The staff on reception were welcoming Although I booked a small double room I was disappointed with the room. It was the smallest room I have ever staid in. The bed was described as a small double, it was not much bigger that a single bed. Because the room was so small the bed was only about 6 inches from the wall which made almost impossible to get out of bed on that side. The room needed completely redecorating as the paint work was worn and damaged. The wallpaper was tatty and marked and the carpet had seen better days. The plug in the sink was stuck in so the water was not draining out so I had to empty it down the toilet to clear it. We had a Sunday roast in the restaurant with my daughter and grandchildren. My wife had roast beef and it was so tuff she could not eat it. We complained and the waitress took off the cost of soft drinks for compensation, I complained to reception and the total cost the beef dinner was refunded.

Easy to find Staff were nice and friendly Room (number 44) was very small and was in need of refurbishment . I thought £15 per night to keep a small dog in the room was excessive. Breakfast was average and not good value at £15 per head. Be aware there is no lift and stairs to second floor were steep.
