The granola " trifle" was really awful with grainy, almost separated yoghurt and fruit compote so sweet and thick that I suspected that it was jam! My husband had the cooked breakfast, the bacon was rather underdone and the mushrooms a bit wet but otherwise fine

However it is well priced and the breakfast is definitely worth including. It’s not the easiest hotel to get to in way of country roads on a night time as it is a little off the beaten track however this is not really a big problem.

• ieva (4/5): Would benefit from giving their staff communication training - The breakfast was great, the spa facitilies were good, overall location is nice with all the countryside atmosphere around. The staff communication and rudeness really left a bad impression at the end of the trip. We were never told that the footpath in the golf court (which is the only way to the village) is not for hotel guests and we got yelled at by one of the staff for walking there (after seeing people do it all the weekend) and got called stupid for not reading the signs (there were no signs). The staff's behaviour agitated our dog who already has anxiety. We mentioned this to the reception upon check out and the staff member apologised for the rudeness but said we should not have been there, to which we said that we should have been communicated this on check in and pointed to a path we can use to get around as walking on the road would have been the only other option and that's naturally dangerous. We got no response to that and as we didn't want to argue further we just left. If not for this incident we would have left the place a good review as even though the heater was making a noise which interrupted our sleep we didn't complain as it was out of staff's control, but considering we were treated disrespectfully at a place we paid money to be at and insulted it's just not a good impression. Very unlikely to be coming back.

Ordered avocado and poached eggs for breakfast. Received soggy thin toast with guacamole smeared on it (no sign of fresh avocado) and one poached egg. Not quite what it was presented in the picture on the menu!!! It was very disappointing.

Given room 100 which is right next to the pool, our room smelt of chlorine and there was constant banging of the access door to pool well before the supposed 7am opening time. The bed was incredibly soft, much too soft for liking and loo is crammed in a corner to the extent one can't sit on it in the convention manner only sat at an angle

• PrestonGuild (8/5): Best Western Plus Ullesthorpe Court Hotel & Golf Club - We booked a suite room with breakfast at the Best Western Plus Ullesthorpe Court Hotel & Golf Club. The hotel is situated about 12 miles from Leicester. It has a remote location, you drive though small country roads to get to the village of Lutterworth. Check in was friendly and brisk. This is a historical building which has been extended through the years. It was a hospital during the first world war. We had a large suite room which had a shower and a bath tub. The room had the usual kettle for tea/coffee. A Nespresso style coffee maker, a small fridge. There were plugs with USB sockets but not always best positioned. One of the reasons we booked the hotel was the pool and sauna. It was not that busy when we went so we used the pool, despite being a bit chilly. We also used the steam and sauna rooms. Breakfast was a good spread. There were cereal boxes, you could get fried or poached eggs, hash browns. The croissants were nice. I did find the coffee machine a bit disappointing. Overall this was a nice break. There is little to do outside the hotel. Even going for a walk is not easy, there are no pavements. I did cut through the golf course which was shut and there is a public right of way near one fairway that takes you to the village.

We selected a suite for our room which comprised of a separate lounge area with large screen TV. The room was very clean, loads of storage and the bathroom was large with a big bath and shower. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. We had dinner and breakfast there too. They were both reasonably priced with excellent quality food. The main reason for our stay was the leisure facilities. There was an indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. All in good condition and made for a very relaxing stay.

The price was really good, the pool and sauna were exactly what I needed after a long day stood in the cold, the steak was spot on, the breakfast had everything, the gym was well equipped but lastly….and most importantly… I had a really comfortable bed and totally uninterrupted sleep. And almost all of the staff had a big smile or a chat, which when you’re on your own is lovely. If I have to come back down that way I’ll definitely be booking again. Loved it.
