• zoe (8/5): A very chic hotel which has been refurbished to a high standard, very clean and a comfortable bed. - the hotel is very stylish and yet retains a real sense of its history with walls pared back to the stonework and uneven floors that wind around the building. The room is described as cosy but was not as tight on space as we expected and was well designed in terms of layout. Really liked the central light fitting it was also great to have the choice of a well lit room or more subtle lighting. There was also a full-length mirror inside the cupboard which was so useful and a make-up mirror. My main gripe would be the fact that we were in a room which faced onto the road and it was fairly noisy, they did provide ear plugs but unfortunately they didn't fully block out the noise. Despite the noise of traffic I did sleep well as the bed was very comfortable and I was very tired!

• Philip (8/5): Would stay again perhaps request a room at the rear of the hotel - Really nice hotel with pleasant polite staff. Clean and comfortable room and right in the centre of Shrewsbury. Couldn't fault it apart from the road noise at night and early morning as we are quite light sleepers however, they did provide ear plugs which was helpful. Only one issue that was the Road noise at night & early morning but saying that it is situated in the heart of Shrewsbury.

Ich hatte ein Zimmer zur Straße hin. Leider war es extrem laut. Dazu hörte man jeden Schritt von dem Zimmer über mir. Generell ist das in Ordnung, aber nicht wenn die Nacht 160 Euro kostet . Das steht in keinem Verhältnis.

Staff were always friendly, helpful and accommodating. Full of good advice about places to go and see. Interesting building. Breakfast a bit hit and miss - no croissants or smoked salmon left on Friday, but scrambled and poached eggs were fine. Coffee a bit weak and watery until we asked for it to be stronger and the filter jugs didn't work very well. Very narrow entrance to car park!

• Bernadette (9/5): Charming hotel in Shrewsbury within walking distance of town centre and historic sights. - Good secluded parking for our motorbikes. Choice of dining options either the hotel's A la carte or the adjacent tapas style bar, both good value for money. Very good choice of food for breakfast. Our room was charming and spotless, on second floor overlooking main street but the double glazing kept out any traffic noise, not that there was much anyhow. All the staff were charming and helpful.

The entrance to the carpark was crazy narrow - our Volvo cx60 almost couldn’t fit. Our bedroom was down a rabbit warren and you could hear people talking through the walls.

This is the blueprint of how to redo an old English pub/coaching inn. Retained its old feel whilst beautifully stylish in a slightly modern way. Staff were lovely and engaging. • John (8/5): An enjoyable stay. - A very well presented property that appealed by its decor and character. Excellent staff, particularly during dinner in the restaurant. A good selection at breakfast and the omelette with smoked salmon and dill was outstanding. Our bedroom was too close to the road but I did sleep well. Too much salt in venison dish that we both had at dinner. Bath/ shower controls very hard to manipulate hence scalding water which could be very dangerous.

We did have breakfast and it was one of the best I have had , very fresh , great ingredients and lovely service from the lady .

A really buzzing yet sophisticated place. Relatively late check in and early check out time - we get much better service in Asia from this perspective but overall just a small issue.

• jennyaE9869DZ (2/5): Awful experience - The food overall was just okay, but the beef was absolutely awful - it arrived undercooked and essentially raw. What made it worse was the complete lack of response from staff. There was no apology; instead, we were just offered a free dessert, which didn’t feel like an appropriate way to handle it. Another customer at a nearby table even commented that their beef was “like dog meat,” yet still nothing was addressed by staff. The manager seemed to be avoiding the situation entirely and wasn’t visible or dealing with any of the complaints. To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, we could hear the manager and staff laughing about who was going to come over to our table - completely unprofessional given the circumstances. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I won’t be returning.

While out of proprietors control, loose manhole/grid on road rattled loudly every time a car drove over it. Even aside from this, traffic noise prevented sleep. Maybe backrooms would not have this issue and would have improved my rating. While cooked breakfast excellent, continental limited particularity for >£17 - would have benefited from ?bread rolls, cheese, meats, tomatoes, cucumber etc.

Later night staff in Bar unwelcoming, particularly one member working on the Thursday night of our stay. Had a meal out in town and returned for a couple of drinks in the Bar, immediately approached by this person asking if we were actually staying at the Hotel and our room number. It wasn't the questions but the manor they were asked! Very unprofessional. They must have had some problems in the past with people just walking in but there is a way to speak to people and that wasn't it.

We really liked the little touches in the room such as the water provided Noise and lots of it continually. Road nose was horrendous and made worse by a loose manhole cove right outside our window. But there is very little sound insulation through I the windows and we could clearly hear what people were saying in the street. First night we hardly slept which really effected our enjoyment of the next day. On day two we found ear plugs provided in the room, which we had not been told about, that improved the nose but did not solve it and again did not sleep well, but even in the day time it was hard to hear the TV and we were cutting our days out short to try and get more sleep. It ruined the whole stay, fortunatly Sunday night was queter and i felt safe to drive home but I had been worried about that.

• Caroline (8/5): A lovely hotel, very central with a great atmosphere. - The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, and whilst the hotel itself isn’t particularly large, it had a lovely cosy but contemporary feel (we visited at the end of November so it was in the Christmas theme). The bar and dining area were really inviting and well staffed - it’s obviously popular with locals. Our eventual room had everything we needed and was quiet, despite partially overlooking the main road.The bed was very comfortable and there was a lovely powerful shower. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with plenty of choice - we’d stay again! As we arrived a little early our room wasn’t ready. When we returned later our superior room had been given to someone with supposed mobility issues, (none of the rooms are on the ground floor and there’s no lift!) The only 2 superior rooms left overlooked enormous, very noisy extractor fans above the kitchen, constantly, emitting strong food smells. We ended up having to downgrade our room to a much smaller but quieter one but no refund was offered for the cost difference.

The food was extremely fresh, well presented and very tasty and our drinks was one of the best cappuccinos I have tasted. I would highly recommend this as a place to visit

Sunday evening meal was traditional Sunday lunch - bit heavy for us - the Bistro and restaurant choices on previous evening were excellent

• Lloyd (9/5): Short but perfect. - I had an early meeting and was able to prebook my breakfast, it was ready for me when I arrived at 7am. Lovely staff.
• 850lynnes (10/5): Fancy food and fine wine in a friendly setting - We wanted a fancy lunch for our anniversary and we’d espied this place previously… It did not disappoint! The setting is superb, such great ambience and a few different areas to suit. The food was incredible, the wine was delicious. The service absolutely fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

• Pamela (10/5): Exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing The Lion and Pheasant. Congratulations to the team. - Every member of staff was very helpful and positive - evidence of good staff training. Staff seemed to work as a team happily, creating a great atmosphere. The downstairs area was interestingly laid out and furnished, giving different areas for more cosy relaxation. Our experience of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast was exceptional, with an excellent chef.
• Christine (7/5): Overall the location was central, the breakfast was good, the room was clean and the bed comfortable - Breakfast was good Noisy from the street outside. The room was very hot so had to open the window making it even more noisy. There was a small fan but that was quite noisy too.

• Alex (10/5): We loved shrewsbury - Delicious food, very friendly staff and was a great location. Parking was a slight challenge due to the extremely narrow opening but as its an old building completely understand nothing can be done to resolve this and a very friendly local helped guide me through the opening

• Paula (8/5): We would come again. - The room was clean and comfortable and quite attractive. The ensuite bathroom was clean and well attended. The bars and seating areas were also attractive . The location was excellent. However, there were a couple of minor improvement points for the room. There were no USB charging ports. Additionally wall plugs were a bit restricted and there was a bit of unplugging in order to use the kettle. The TV location was a bit weak, on a table which was low, and so could not view full screen. Maybe it would have been better wall mounted.
