- Kim (10/5): Charming Hotel/Hostel - Everything about the Aurora was charming - we loved it. We had a very early - 7am- start and the kitchen was locked, unfortunately. My be if we'd asked ahead of time? Shuttle stopped for breakfast, anyway! Loved the Aurora!
- Anja (10/5): - Super sauber, schöne Zimmer mit Kaffeebereiter, Wasserkocher und Kühlschrank. Gutes Bad.
- Lea Enk (9/5): Absolutely fine for a good price! - We really liked the few days in the Aurora Hotel, it is not luxurious, but absolutely perfect if you dont want to spend a fortune. We like it easy and for that the hotel is perfect! The rooms are tidy and the kitchen is fine for cooking and preparing own meals. Especially the location is amazing, you need just 5 minutes to the beach! You can hear everything on the corridor when it is noisy. We had two Windows, what was perfect, but both were to the corridor with just curtains and the light was almost always on. So it was very light in the room at night.
- Luka (10/5): - Perfect Location. Nice place. the hotel could invest money in new dishes, it’s not healthy to eat peeled teflon. The pans and saucepans are ruined.

- SallyAD (8/5): Aurora hotel close to the centre of montezuma - Staff very friendly . Very central location. Expensive..we paid over £100 per night. We stayed in room 20. Extremly loud road noise. Needs double glazing. Room was dark and dingey no outside view
Rooms 7-10 face the sea and would be quieter

- Siobhan (8/5): - Location, cleanliness ans staff are all excellent. Great value hotel right in the centre. Would recommend staying mid week. Not the hotels fault at all - but MZ is home to a lot of western hippies with drink problems. They hang out in the street and park behind the hotel - don't stay at weekends when they are at their loudest, week days we're more quiet. Loved the hotel just a shame about Montezuma.
Nada.

- Danny (8/5): - Very nice
- Lloyd (8/5): - This quaint hotel was the perfect stop for our two day stay. Centrally located to the local shops and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and available for any questions or needs that you may have.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Benson (4/5): Disappointing - There were a number of pluses to our three-night stay at Hotel Aurora. The staff was friendly and responsive, our room was spacious, and, unlike the experiences of another visitor, our AC unit worked without problems. The fridge was good-sized and there were plenty of outlets for all our electronic devices. But there were other aspects of our stay that were problematic and may have been peculiar to our room. Our room was #33, the most remote one in the hotel. It was situated up three flights of stairs (the last one measuring no more than two feet wide) and down one short flight. Unfortunately, one of the room’s walls abutted the main road into Montezuma and that wall was apparently very thin and lacking in sound insulation so we could hear the unmuffled sounds of cars, trucks, and motor bikes going up and down. Future visitors, to this room at least, should bring earplugs, or buy some at the local supermarket as my wife did. For us, the conveniency of a hotel located close to the town center was significantly offset by the volume of road noise. It’s possible this is less a problem for rooms in other parts of the hotel.
Importantly, we could never get reliable Wi-Fi service in our room, despite that feature being advertised and despite the best efforts of a staff member to connect us. Our immediate neighbor had the same issue we discovered when we met in the shared outdoor seating area where reception was better.
Other Aurora visitors have mentioned the cleanliness of their rooms, but this wasn’t something that stood out for us, perhaps because the white tiles in the floor of our room had so many dark cracks. In addition, the dark tile grout was dislodging in places, including the bathroom, which sometimes made walking inconvenient.
There were two other significant problems with the bathroom. First, while it did have a window that could be vented, that window was not screened, unlike the other venting windows in the unit. This meant choosing between a bathroom of odor and steam or one of insects. Second, emptying a bathroom trash can should have been a daily, routine service since, as is true in many rural communities in the world, a sign told us not to use the toilet for toilet paper. We had to ask for after two days to get such trash service.
These shortcomings would have loomed less in our minds if our lodging had been a great value. At $139 pre nigh
- Jack (8/5): Very good -
- Nathalie (8/5): Very good - Great location on the beach, friendly staff.
Nice breakfast included.
Clean room Expensive: room and restaurant - pay for location. Payment only cash :(
- Helen (9/5): Superb - The location is excellent. Close to everything.
It's great value for money with a coffee machine and fridge in your room. Shared spaces to eat and relax and a communal kitchen to use.
Support local families and choose Aurora.
- Brian (10/5): Great budget hotel - Great location & staff. AC was $25 a day extra. Save 13 per cent by paying cash either dollars or colones. Very close to everything & no climbing. Front desk very helpful & speak reasonable English. Staff always cleaning & upkeep ing property. Good security as 24 hour on duty staff
- Hermelinda (9/5): It was the best stay ever!😍 - The view from porch. Very close to town. It was great to have a kitchen. We really enjoyed it. The curtains need to be darker. Too much light from park at night.
- Olivia (8/5): The Hotel Aurora is unique and well worth a visit. - The hotel is perfectly placed. Close enough to all amenities and yet not in ‘the thick of it’. Our room was clean and comfortable with a terrace overlooking a public park. The rooms could do with some updating but it certainly didn’t detract from our stay. There is an on-site kitchen for the use of guests which is a bonus. It was value for money and Montezuma is well worth a visit. Can’t think of many negatives, I suppose the public park could pose a problem but we didn’t experience any and it’s out of the hotel’s control.
- Robin (7/5): Cosy place but make sure to pay in USD! - Cosy place with lots of places to chill out, and very large room with cool wooden boards. Good working aircon and coffee maker was a nice touch. Bang in the middle of town (but thats easy in Montezuma). Bed could be a bit more comfortable and shower wasn’t great (as in more places in CR). My main annoyance was that the hotel uses a very unfavourable exchange rate (550c/1usd) so I ended up paying way more (in colones) than I should have. Even though there’s a note about it at reception you can’t just make up an exchange rate. Make sure to pay in USD!
- James (7/5): Good -
- Nadine (10/5): Remarquable - My stay in this hotel was awesome. Close to the beach and restaurants it’s the best match in Montezuma. Affordable, with a staff who deserves 5 stars thanks to open mind and professionalism. The only noise could be the outside music, otherwise the fan (room without AC), it just helps to sleep after an exhausting day at the beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. 😊
- Witney (7/5): Good -
- Izetta (10/5): Wish you could of stayed longer, 2 nights was not enough - Location was what we were hoping for. Very close to the 2 beaches alot of great restaurants and the night life -to be able to walk and enjoy but then be able to get away and sleep in your bed(somewhat quite).
- Forbes (8/5): Very good -
- Lilian (8/5): Very good -
- Carmella (8/5): Very good - Was worth the price. Friendly staff. Nothing
- Johanna (10/5): - It’s a great place to spend the night close to town
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional - Nice location. Privat hamock on porch. Nice crowd.
- Addie (10/5): great staff clean everything you need - clean, friendly staff
- Carpinteri (7/5): Good -
- Lilia (2/5): If I had found another place for that night I would have moved even if that meant paying twice - Good location, couldn't be more central Not clean as you can see in the photos. There was a very bad moldy smell in the bathroom that didn't go away!! Between my room's bathroom and the neighbouring one there was no real isolation (some kind of net was partly used). Dead mosquitos on the bed sheets and some hair on the towels.
- Stephanie (8/5): Centrally located -
- Hallur (7/5): Good - The price was fair and reflected the facilities and comfort. The staff was welcoming. I'm told local people own and operate the hotel, which I think is positive.
- Mollie (8/5): Highly recommend this place :-) - Great location, really nice staff, clean rooms and comfy beds. All round great stay :-) nothing
- Keeley (7/5): Good - lovely staff, lots of different areas to relax very tired decor
- Max (8/5): Very good -
- Faith (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Close to everything. The nice ambiance, the patio in front of my room with hammock, facing the jungle park. The staff were outstanding, very helpful and friendly. AC was quiet. Room cleaning excellent. Good value for money. Nothing really but my room needs a chair.
- Kostova (10/5): The whole atmosphere, the super kind and helpful team, the comfy bed, the private balcony with hammo - Hotel Aurora is the best place you can chose to stay while in Montezuma, the spacious room, the AC, and the fan, the amazing relax space, i.e. your own balcony - with a hammock and a wonderful view, the great option to use a kitchen facility, so you can prepare your own meal, this was simply an a m a z i n g stay! The whole atmosphere, the team super kind and helpful to answer every question or request with a huge warm smile! Thank you so much Hotel Aurora, for keeping this beautiful welcoming atmosphere! Me and my friends enjoyed very much the shared chill hammock area and met new friends while relaxing there I also really liked your library corner! The 30 seconds walk to the beach and the incredible sunrise, whoaaah! Montezuma, we are coming back to you and our favorite hotel Aurora! Thank you! Everything was perfect!
- Jacqueline (3/5): Poor -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Boris (8/5): A good option for Montezuma - The room was big with comfortable beds. It had AC and two fans for us to choose. There was a small balcon with a hammock and a table with view to the park. It also had a small fridge so it is possible to keep a few groceries in there just for us.
The owners of the hotel gave us a huge hand managing our reservation. They confirmed our positive and unique experience with Costa Rica's warmth and helpful people. Thanks! The room didn't have any type of closet or shelves for our clothes... not a big deal but it helps.
The AC was working but it was really noisy... difficult to sleep with a helicopter motor above your head :)
- Lena (9/5): Superb - Lovely place with fabulous staff and perfect location! The compound itself is gorgeous, and it is located right downtown in Montezuma, but tucked away enough for you not to be bothered by noise. Felt extremely safe, too, with staff always present by the entrance. 100% recommended! Our room was a bit musty, but it could maybe have been solved with A/C, which we didn't purchase (could get it for an extra $20/night).
- Giovanni (7/5): nice place in Montezuma - perfect location in the heart of montezuma.
Nice common area to chill.
The staff is very kind. -kitchen very old.
-Quite expensive for what is offered but mainly due to the Christmas period
- Richard (2/5): Very poor -
- Angeliki (8/5): Very good - I loved that they upgraded my room without me asking :)
Clean and perfect location.
Friendly employees
Warm water
- Stephanie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Katia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good -
- Debra (8/5): Very good - Great location for the beach, restaurants and shops. Comfortable bed and spacious rooms. Very good value for money and the staff were friendly and helpful
- Charlie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Verena (7/5): Good - Great stuff, very happy to help. No Miskito-net at the windows.
- Tim (7/5): nice place. Although there are a number of nicer places near by - nice big room mattress and pillow was terrible!
- Patrick (8/5): Good location - The place is located close to the beach and restaurants. We loved our stay here being able to do some work in between hikes and sunbathing. Friendly staff and people from all over the world stayed there so it was a good vibe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Spot! - Hotel Aurora was wonderful. The reception was friendly, welcoming and clean. The shared kitchen is well equipped and kept nice and tidy by the guests and staff. The beds were comfortable and clean. The room had a mini fridge and coffee maker. The location is probably the best part as it's right on the corner when you get into little Montezuma. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, bars and two nice beaches. I will be staying there again.
- Michael (10/5): - Hotel Aurora was perfect for my short stay (one night) in Montezuma. I was solo backpacking through Costa Rica and stopped here in route to Jaco Beach (via taxi-boat that departed from the beach in walking distance from hotel). Montezuma is a great small town with incredible beaches and good vibes!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This hotel was built in 1989 and definitely has it's own charm despite the rust. Montezuma is a hidden gem along the Nicoya coast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice simple place to stay. Security guard at night was a bit overbearing but also made us feel safe. I would stay here again
- Veronique (8/5): Bien situé - Nous avons eu un check-in déplaisant.
- Achim (10/5): Start every day with a smile - Start every day with a smile, was the sign at the entrance. They really give everything a personal touch. My room was very clean and big enough for myself. I enjoyed my stay in Montezuma. The beaches are at close distance and also the restaurants.
- Erin (10/5): - Easy access to everything Montezuma has to offer. Clean room, recycling on property, mini fridge in room was a nice bonus and the outside hammocks were so relaxing!
- john (8/5): - Great place with great ataff
- Judi (4/5): - It was sometimes hard to get staff after ringing the bell.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Below standard quality - The staff charged me twice for my room which was extremely dirty. The doors and windows did not lock well and there was garbage under the beds and very dirty floors and utilities. I would never stay here again.
- wiliam (8/5): Perfect for the price and access - I always find the Aurora to be a fine little place to stay right in the middle of Montezuma....not fancy...but clean...good hot water...AND AC!!!....not a little thing in Montezuma....and a very rudimentary communal kitchen can make for a very economical stay....and great for cooking the fish you catch
stay away from the rooms that face the street....very loud, very early
- crystal (4/5): AC is great - We stayed after changing our reservation from a different hotel with no AC. The AC is great. The room is in need of some updating. The beds are hard. I went to the bathroom at 2am only have a cockroach run out at me! The location is very central in Montezuma.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location, good wifi, helpful staff! - It was 94 degrees the day I was there. My room had excellent air conditioner to cool off!
Beautiful quaint artist and chill community. Two beautiful beaches, fairly safe ocean swimming. Average age of locals and visitors, 30. Excellent hostile, lots of hikers. Loved my stay, going back asap for longer stay!
- Loic (2/5): Worst location ever and Hot water and AC not free! - Worst location ever. Hotel is located at the cross roads at the entrance of the town beach. So we heard noisy cars, bikes and ATV all day and night long.
On top of that, hot water and AC is additional fee .... that felt like a rip off and a way for the hotel to make a few dollars more on top of the reservation. And we stayed in the suite, which tell us how low the standard of the hotel really is. Will never come back, even for free !
- beth (6/5): Close to the beach - Close to the beach and in the centre of town, but loud parties in the town were heard every night from the hotel. The beds were also VERY solid. But overall one of the cheaper options in town and with a private bathroom!
- François (8/5): Room, but no extras... - They had just put Epoxy on the stone wall in the Bathroom. It smelled awful and we could barely sleep, not mentionning how bad this is for our health...
- Markus Antero (4/5): Don't go here - 1. The receptionists were okay - not very good English but tried to help if they felt so.
2. We got first room No. 6. It smelled really badly to mold and it was hard to breath inside. We then got room No. 2. It was okay but the shower cap was disgustingly dirty. This was also in room No. 6. The personnel cleaned both, though. The cushions smelled like poo. We could not use them and made our own cushions out of clothes.
3. There came only cold water. Hot water would have cost 5 dollars extra.
4. They have a laundry service, but it costs 10 dollars/bag. Next door it cost under 2000 colones, i.e. about 4 dollars.
5. The receptions told that the way to the waterfalls was 50 meters away. It was more like 500 meters, which is good to know.
6. Positives: refridgirator in room plus coffee machine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Has the basics, cheap, friendly - The lady who checked me in was friendly and information. Great location. They could use some restoration but then again, it was cheap.
