Guest Reviews
- Brian (4/5): - We stayed in the Plough
- tracy (8/5): - The staff were excellent even though we had no power for the first 9 hours due to a network problem
- Robert (8/5): - Had a good evening once sorted out that kitchen was shut on Sundays which is on their website but it wasn’t on the booking site we went through, then we didn’t get two separate beds which we booked instead we got a double.
Other than that we had a good time talking to the owner and their mum
- jodie (10/5): - Great relaxed area. Staff were amazing! Just what we needed for a stay near the beautiful towns of the Cotswolds.
- Lisa (10/5): - I was very pleasantly surprised by this accommodation. Cold Aston is a quintessential beautiful English village. The Inn was very nicely presented. The staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Dining options were limited, focusing mainly on the locally produced beef but all options were of high quality. The bedroom although small was cleverly designed. The bed was a super king size and very comfortable. The ensuite offered a nice powerful shower and pleasant bathroom suite. Would definitely recommend.
- Nicholas (8/5): - Fantastically located for our family stay in the Cotswolds. Our room was very clean and well presented. Nice large room and huge bathroom. Could have done with supplying hair/body wash but only a minor inconvenience.
Would certainly recommend to others.
Breakfast was Amazing and went out of the way to accommodate our daughters
- David (8/5): - Fantastic room old beams unfortunately the pub isn’t open on a Monday..
- Nicholas (10/5): - Beautiful property in the centre of The Cotswolds AONB.
- Malcolm (8/5): - Great breakfast loved the wheat bread
- Kelly (8/5): - Stayed for 1 night with my Mum as we were visiting the Cotswolds. Was advertised with parking; but no off street parking was available. When we arrived, were greeted by a friendly lady, shown up to the room. The room was unsatisfactory - thick layer of mould all over the windows, walls & shower, dirty kettle, dust (thick & black) all over the room, dirty floor & walls, bowel motions in the toilet brush.
We spoke to the lady who greeted us to which she apologised as was not aware of the above issues & arranged for us to move rooms.
The new room was an upgrade from what we had booked and was of a completely different standard - although there was mould in the windows, the overall cleanliness was of a high standard, tea & coffee facilities, large TV, comfy bed (had a brilliant nights sleep), room was warm & cosy. Only down side was that were was only 1 mirror in the bathroom, so no mirror in the bedroom to use when getting ready (ie when using compliances).
We booked an evening meal which was superb; both agreed it was one of the best burgers we had had. Massive compliments to the chef. The general manager apologised for the room & we were given a free dessert; he was polite and nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfast was also delicious (full English breakfast) and the lady who had greeted us the day before was pleasant & friendly.
So overall, once we had moved rooms, it was a brilliant stay, the staff resolved the issues promptly & efficiently👍
- Richard (10/5): Centuries of welcoming travelers. - We loved the Plough and it was a great base for explore the Cotswold.
- Prasanna (8/5): - The location is inside a village with a scenic drive to get there. Decent facilities and amenities in the room. There is no parking as advertised and we had to park on the street. There was no housekeeping to clean and replace towels during our 2 day stay.
- Ofelia (10/5): - It was a typical English pub which did not disappoint. The staff was helpful and very friendly. We were in a pickle due to misplaced luggage and they went out of their way to help us correct the problem. The food was fine and the ambiance of the old building was wonderful.
- Tracy (10/5): - Excellent, lovely room kind and friendly staff.
- Geoffrey (10/5): Cold Aston - A little gem a bit off the beaten track
- SHEILA (10/5): - Beautiful historic building, welcoming staff, excellent food. Good night’s sleep in the peace and quiet of a lovely rural location
- Michael (4/5): - Location in peaceful, pretty village. Parking in street nearby. Pretty building, from the street.
- Jenny (10/5): A great place to stay - Love this hotel. Tucked away in a quiet, friendly village. The owner and all the staff are friendly and helpful. The room was Chen’s and the bed was so comfortable. They serve lovely food in the evening and the cooked breakfast is spot on. Would highly recommend.
- Stephen (10/5): The picturesque stay in the Cotswolds. - Truly gorgeous inn situated in a small town in the middle of the Cotwolds. The rooms are beautiful and the pub below has incredible food. The breakfast was a full English and tasted amazing. There are public footpaths a minute from the place with beautiful views of the countryside. The staff are very kind. Cannot recommend this place enough.
- Jim (10/5): - Old world small hotel. Food excellent. Friendly helpful staff. Parking on village street only a few steps from front door. Our room was small but very comfortable except for the low oak beam over my side of the double bed which I found myself bumping into fairly regularly. I suspect people must have been much smaller centuries ago!
Hotel is only couple of miles from the very picturesque Bourton which is a tourist magnet.
- Robert (10/5): Excellent stay - Great friendly welcome and made to feel very comfortable. Food and service was excellent 👌
- Verified traveler (10/5): Definitely coming back! - We have loved our stay at the Plough Inn. It’s perfect if you are looking for a countryside, romantic getaway just for you two. Car parking isn’t totally clear and we ended up in a bedroom with two beds pushed together which isn’t totally comfortable, but the actual room more than made up for it.
The service at the Plough Inn is beyond impeccable. Everyone was polite, friendly and more than helpful and cannot be faulted. We lay in bed in the morning and listened to the birds - it was heavenly.
- Gino (10/5): Olde Worlde charm and character. - This is a genuine olde worlde inn with a roaring log fire in the bar. We only stayed for one night but would have happily stayed for longer. Great communications with the owner/manager. Dinner was excellent and a substantial breakfast of your choice.
- Janet (10/5): - Lovely cosy inn, great food
- Walter (10/5): Warmest of welcomes and best breakfast ever! - Really friendly staff from checkin to departure. One of the best full English breakfasts we have ever been served. We will definitely be coming back
- Richard (10/5): Comfy place. - Quaint older property. Good food, great breakfast. Fab service for breakfast, slow at dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is in a lovely quiet location. The staff are very helpful and attentive.
- Lori (10/5): A home from home - The owner Tom was very helpful in his emails ahead of our stay. Unfortunately the pub bar was closed during our stay (mon-wed) but Tom gave us some great recommendations nearby which we loved.
Check-in was super easy and required no contact so we could check in as late as we wanted which was ideal.
Breakfast was delightful and the staff couldn’t be more friendly or helpful - no one hurried you along at all and the food was delicious.
The room itself was very comfortable with plenty of room for two and all the basics. Mind your heads though as there are some sloping ceilings!
Would recommend to anyone who wanted to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the big towns - a really enjoyable little break!
- Jill (8/5): Great little place - Overall it was lovely and we would definately stay again, however the entrance up to our room was trashed by walkers filthy boots which isn't a good first impression. Room cramped but adequate for 1 night. Lots of spiders everywhere. Took us over 1.5hrs to book a taxi when after a long drive we should have been chilling. The staff were all lovely and helpful. Breakfast was gorgeous. Lovely location and a lovely traditional pub.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Liked the friendliness of the staff. Lived up to expectations regarding an English Country Inn with rooms in a quaint Cotswold village.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean with friendly staff. Room was well appointed with lovely fluffy towels.
A couple if points though:
- room didn't lock. Staff unable to sort;
- tv didn't work. Staff unable to get working; and
- our facecloth removed with the change if towels
- Angie (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, food was amazing and the staff are excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): great food in a lovely village - Both the evening meal and breakfast were absolutely excellent. The service was impeccable and we thoroughly enjoyed that element of the stay. The only problem was that on arrival we were told our room was ready but on inspection it clearly hadn’t been hoovered at all. There was talcum powder visible in the bath and it was clear that it hadn’t been sanitised to Covid advisory levels. This was especially strange because the bed and towels had clearly been changed and were fresh. The manager was thoroughly apologetic and said that he would speak to the cleaner who was relatively new to the business. Overall we enjoyed the stay and would stay again, trusting in the fact that the room issue was just the negligence of one employee.
- Alan (10/5): A Hidden Gem - A great comfortable Cotswold Hotel. Great Room and lovely Breakfast. Would recommend. Slightly remote so would also recommend for the evening meal. Food and service excellent
- Beverley (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - Room was clean and comfy Great for an overnight or weekend stay and I wouldn’t hesitate booking again when in the area. Food in the pub fantastic and the breakfast was excellent 10/10. The only fault I could find with this place was the outside area could do with a good brushing and clean other than that fantastic 😁
- John (8/5): Good - Very good service and pleasant stay in countryside
- Angus (10/5): - Charming, traditional Costwold pub in a village location. Very friendly welcome, from both the staff and locals. Thomas made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Cosy room, very comfy bed and a good nights sleep despite beng unable to turn down the heating in the bathroom. Gorgeous food too, not cheap by any means, but quality, presentation and service second to none.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All excellent
Only little detail was insufficient light in the bathroom to see to put on make up!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very quaint guest house in a lovely little village. Room was lovely though small, (typical for the UK). Family owned, the staff were warm and very helpful and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend to others.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Picturesque setting, comfortable room, food in restaurant was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Chris and his staff were very friendly and helpful. They were a chef down, hope she recovers quickly, but still managed to satisfy a v busy resteraunt full of customers at lunch and dinner.
The food was outstanding. Fish pie, for my wife and pork chop on bubble for me.
Lovely fresh cooked breakfast too.
Comfy bed, cosy room.
Thanks for a great stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay. Check in process was easy, room was clean and modern, and the area is quaint little village free of tour buses.
Also, make sure to eat dinner downstairs — it’s delicious.
You’d be lucky to stay here!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hospitality:) with a cute and cosy room. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place was very clean and the food brilliant good friendly staff nothing too much trouble
- Richard (10/5): Brilliant Customer Service - A brilliant place to stay with excellent customer service. We were going to a wedding at Stone Barn and they organised taxis for us. We checked in early and the room was ready despite us being there 2 hours before check in.
The breakfast the following morning was of a high quality and not to be missed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The plough inn was in a lovely location and the rooms were beautiful. Will definitely we coming back again thank you for making our visit the best.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely place to stay with the loveliest staff. Went out of their way to make sure our stay was great. We was stuck for a cab into Cheltenham when we first arrived, due to things being busy for the racing festival, and they arranged a lift for us. All such friendly, welcoming people that really made this a trip to remember. The food is absolutely amazing also. I honestly couldn’t recommend this any place any higher.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Grey location in a lovely quiet village, great food and hosts
- Wayne (10/5): - small and characterful with friendly, helpful staff and excellent food. Overall and excellent place to stay in the Cotswolds.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful place, but... - The staff and service was fantastic and everything was exceptionally clean for such an old building. The location and building were beautiful, tucked away in a quiet village. The only downside was that we had booked in for dinner as menu looked great, but there was a kitchen fire and we had to find elsewhere to eat at very late notice (but they did give us a very good recommendation for an alternative). It also meant that breakfast could not be the typical Cotswold B&B style, but cold/continental only. This was nice but, as we had breakfast included in our rate, a bit of a shame.
- Adrian (8/5): - Nice stay at a lovely country pub. The plough is in a small village close to bourton on the water & stow on the wold. The Cooked breakfast was lovely, we would recommend this pub to guests that prefer peace and quiet
