Guest Reviews
- Wenjing (4/5): - Not a very comfortable facility for a travelling family. That said, we appreciate the staff’s kindness to help us during the stay.
- Annelise (2/5): Clean enough - No frills roof over your head. Room was clean enough. Laundry broke halfway through so had to air-dry clothing in the room, a few items were ruined. No AC in August but we were provided a fan.
- Michelle (4/5): - The room wasn’t cleaned very well and you can hear everyone around you. The walls are paper thin, but luckily other visitors were as mindful as they could be. Some staff are a little rude. Beds are very firm, but I prefer firm beds so it worked for me. Apart from that, it’s in an amazing area. The location by far is the best part of this place. Really close to the tram and there are a ton of cafes and pubs nearby!
- Crispen (8/5): - Such a handy location, with bus and tram options to move about easily.
- Inaki (6/5): - This is a student housing building open to the public for limited times in the year. It is not a hotel and although it provides a lot of space and privacy for the price (~£100) a night the amenities are bare minimum, cleanliness could be a lot better. Overall it ok if you are not fuzzy about staying in a from but pricey.
- Hayden (10/5): - Great student accommodation!
- Richard (8/5): - Good modern, and clean, accommodation very walkable from Edinburgh Waverley station. As student accommodation it does not have same luxuries as a hotel; however the place more than met my needs and I would definitely stay here again.
- David (10/5): - Nice, clean and well situated
- Carlos (8/5): - The bed it’s smaller for two people
- Josh (8/5): - Did the job. Edinburgh is ridiculously expensive in summer so it's great to have this option. Clean, simple, comfortable.
- Connie (6/5): - The staff were nice but the carpet in the room was very dirty and you could feel the springs in the mattress.
- Gráinne (2/5): - Grim cell, no bedside lights, immovable ‘ double’ bed too small for two, shelves with sharp edges that stuck out into the mattress space and caught you when you moved in your sleep, desk overlapping the mattress…. Awful, if clean. Overpriced. One night was the maximum anyone could stick this.
- Kelly (8/5): - The staff were great. The place was a very close walk to the tram , which was amazing for getting around the city. The place was clean and the building felt secure. As a student dorm , it was as expected, nothing flashy but that’s all that was needed to enjoy the city. There is a grocery store and a Starbucks very close which was also very convenient.
- David (10/5): - Accommodation basic but have paid much more for much less in Edinburgh and good natured helpful staff. Have already recommended to friends
- Dorota (6/5): - Great location, friendly personnel, but the communal areas were very dirty, looks like it have never been cleaned. Rooms very basic, but you get what you pay for, cant expect 4 star hotel amenities for this price. If you are on the low budget and do not care where you sleep, this is the option for you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Well located student accomodation. - Good: Location, cost compared to other Edinburgh hotels, studio had everything needed.
Bad: Nothing really at the price.
- Alexandra (6/5): - Very easy walk to the station and city centre with lots of trams and buses. On a main road so very noisy but you can get free ear plugs from reception. The mattress was quite uncomfortable and would have benefited from a topper.
- Nicholas (8/5): - If you are on a budget, Destiny Shrubhill is a very good option. The staff are great and the rooms bright and airy. The internet/wifi is excellent.
You can catch a tram every six minutes from St Andrews Square (near the northern exit from Waverley station) to the MacDonald Road stop, a journey of about five or eight minutes, and then walk downhill for about three minutes.
There are some small issues. To use the washing machine, you first need to spend half an hour downloading an app in a room with no mobile reception. It would be better to make prepaid washing cards available. Also, the chair supplied did not fit under the desk, which makes working a bit difficult. And it would have been good to have a top sheet as well as the duvet.
But these are minor suggestions for improvement, and this is a great place to stay.
- Helen (8/5): Good Location, basic but good value. - Really nice location, very basic but comfortable. Between two Tram stops and a sainsburys and starbucks in the immediate vacinity. Very lovely staff especially Aimee who was friendly on check in and Josh, who was very helpful on checkout. Keep up the good work!!
- Claire (8/5): - Everything was great except the room looked much bigger in the photo. But Edinburgh hotels are so out of reach, we were very glad of the student accommodation so we could attend our daughter's graduation. Thank you.
- Jennifer (8/5): Basic but functional - Our expectations weren't set high, knowing this was Student accommodation, so pleasantly surprised by the free toiletries and tea/coffee.
Small room and access only from one side of the bed but fit our purpose.
Couldn't fault the service and nice cafes available nearby.
Great use of otherwise empty rooms in a busy city.
- Lorraine (8/5): - g had an excellent stay at Destiny Student lovely 33room with a view and room very clean, bedding excellent and staff verey helpful and frendly. Everything we wanted. would stay there again.
- Hardeep (10/5): - Excellent service considering it is cheap and cheerful. Great location!
- Teri, Yee Teng (10/5): - Rooms are nice and clean. Kitchen are supplied with kitchen tools and supplies to cook up a meal. A great alternative to a hotel and a 30 minute walk to the city center.
- Imogen (6/5): - Easy student accommodation perfect for a cheap and convenient stay. Front desk was very helpful and welcoming at all hours of the day. The rooms themselves were fine, communal kitchen should have provided cleaning materials. For a nonsmoking building everything reeked of cigarette smoke - I believe our shared neighbours were smoking out their window.
- Colleen (10/5): Cheap and cheerful - Cheap and cheerful. Easy access to everywhere.
- Kevin (8/5): Great location & helpful receprion staff - Conveniently located & easy to get too from airport. Lots of cafes nearby.
Need to remember its NOT a hotel (student accommodation).... which was more than adequate...
- Kaung Myat Wai (6/5): - Acceptable place at affordable price. The bed is uncomfortable. The room as well as the bathroom is clean but some facilities are broken.
- Pierre (10/5): - Great location near a stop on the Tram.
- Anusree (6/5): - The entire bathroom gets wet because the shower is not separated from the toilet, there was no bathroom mat as well, which makes the area really inconvenient to use. For a student accommodation the walls were also very thin, couldn't sleep the whole night cause you could hear everyone when they were walking or opening/closing doors. I gave it an average rating for being average.
- carrie (10/5): - Walking distance into city with also the option of taking the tram or bus outside the door of the property, supermarkets close by, staff friendly
- Zheng Hong (10/5): - Great find, good availability, easy and quick check in and check out (24-hour reception), very friendly staff, great value for money.
- JORGE EDUARDO ROSALES (8/5): - It is not a Hotel, it is a Student Accomodation
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very bad stay - This is a really bad place to stay even as per the standard of a student accommodation. The rooms are small with very dirty cushions and duvet. There is no sound proofing at all in the room. You can hear everyone and even traffic noise. The lift was not working for my floor so had to carry my luggage from stairs. The locking systems on the door is really bad and it takes multiple attempts to lock the door. Not worth the price at all. Will never stay again in any of the chains which belong to this company.
- Ryan (4/5): - You get what you pay for. The hallways and rooms were boiling hot, so the window had to be open all the time to cool down. The road it’s on can be quite noisy so that will then wake you up. They let you borrow a fan for £20 but you’d just be moving hot air around. The bed was rock hard, gave me back pain. Feel sorry for the students who actually have to live here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap but uncomfortable. - Cheap. However bed was very uncomfortable - had to lay on folded duvet for comfort. Room was very hot yet the road outside was very noisy into the early hours of the morning so window open not an option. Thankfully able to grab a fan from reception. Personally wouldn’t stay again but understand many on a budget would accept this for a cheap night in Edinburgh.
- IAIN (8/5): - All fine - no complaints,
- Caroline (6/5): - I wasn't able to get onto wifi and although I coped the mattress was very lumpy but otherwise the room served its purpose
- Sirpa (8/5): - Good locations!!
- John (8/5): - Decent location, friendly staff, everything you’d expect from student accommodation.
- Joanna (6/5): - Unfortunately people near our room very noisy late at night.... lots of voices, door slamming, and wven at one point hoovering! Apart from that room ok.
- Antonio (8/5): - Like: Good location, room was clean and spacious, bed was confortable.
Didn't like: it gets too hot, windows are extremely poorly designed; you cannot open it, therefore there is not air flow at all, seriously those windows are ridiculously poor designed.
- Sam (8/5): Great location - Great location, friendly staff, perfectly adequate en-suite student room with a nearby kitchen to use too. Only problem we encountered was that it was very warm and was impossible to open the window more than a couple of inches at the top… a ‘health and safety’ matter apparently. Other than that, all good and would use again.
- Laura (10/5): Great value option - Great accomodation option, clean quite but with the advantage of option to cook for self in the shared kitchen if needed. I would say dont let the fact this is student accomodation put you off. It was quite and easy to keep youself to self. Bed was fine for us as a couple as im short and so i could sleep where the end of the bed had the end of a desk against it and he is 6 foot 1 so his feet could dangle over end. Was a great base to expre the city from.
- David (10/5): - Convenient location to main center of town and train station (moderate walk). Helpful and courteous staff. Clean room. No A/C but Edinburgh usually doesn't need it, I suppose. Fan was available to borrow. Private room with bath was sufficient with external shared kitchen among a "flat" of a few rooms. For the price it was reasonable. No complaints.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Really bad honestly... very filthy facilities. Like no one have dusted in weeks nor cleaned the toilets.
Definitely not coming back
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A great bargain for staying in Edinburgh during the Fringe. I got a spacious room and the bed and pillows were decently comfortable as well. Definitely high scores for convenience - it's just by the main road so getting to and from the city centre via bus was really easy, and there's also a Sainsbury's and Starbucks right next door. The walls are thin though, and you definitely get street noise, but overall I was still able to sleep reasonably well over the 5 nights I stayed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, very clean. Basic but this is reflected in the price. Would happily stay there again.
- sara (2/5): terrible place. worse mattress, no air!!!!! - We wanted to stay 3 nights, in the end we stayed only 2, and even that was to much. I was with my son, we've asked for separated beds and they had no way of helping us, not even giving us an additional mattress. They were very unhelpful and didn't offer any solution. We've bought a Yoga mattress for my son to sleep on, while I was sleeping on the bed, which also was very unpleasant since the bed was impossible to sleep on. Another serious problem was that there was no way of ventilating the room, because you can't open the window and there was neither a fan nor an air-conditioner in the room, so the hot air in the room and in the corridors simply stands still, a great way to catch a disease. Most of the staff was empathetic to our problem, but none of them was able, or really tried to help us find a solution.
This place functions during the year as a campus accommodation. As a parent, I would have never let my children stay there, as it is just not fit for living. After 2 nights we've managed to find another hotel. Do not come near this place!!!
- Janet (8/5): Clean and convenient - The room was perfectly clean but very small. The street outside could get very noisy so ask for a room in the back. Convenient for buses and supermarkets. Well stocked kitchen shared between 5 apartments only so usually empty.
- Bobo (6/5): - Noises can be easily heard from the room next door and from the whole corridor. Hot and stuff room and corridor (window can only be open slightly). Had to borrow a fan for the night. Good to have kitchen in each flat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place within walking distance from the town, the studio kitchen was really helpful and just what we needed for our trip.
- Mihai (10/5): GREAT hotel - One of the nicest hotels I ever stayed in. The staff was great, spotless clean, located right near a bus station, big window. It's not a five star hotel, but it has something, I don't know what, that made me love it. Also the price is very good, it's one of the reasons I chose it in the first place.
- andrea (8/5): It is what it is. - Very clean and basic accommodation at a reasonable price, at a time when Edinburgh is very expensive. Shower is super......take your own towels. Lots of facilities close by.
- Ankur (10/5): Amazing property - It was amazing in staying there. All facilities provided to us were very good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient location with easy bus access. All amenities available and clean comfortable rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Kitchen shared by 6 flats is reasonable with kitchen equipment you need.. it was not crowded and not messy.. Although no one seems to empty the kitchen bin daily.. Superb bathroom.. but should need to stock some more toilet rolls please.. we requested from the front desk but did not have any to give.. so we have to buy from sainsburys..
Can feel the bed springs, not so comfortable and the duvet cover has stain before we've used it.. We can hear the phone vibrating from the room next to us.. Milk, coffee and sugar has to be requested from front desk every time you need it.. Overall, it was a good facility with affordable price and great location..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice clean and efficient... good value for money... well connected location
- Verified traveler (4/5): Fringe base - Decent, clean and basic. However, my bed was incredibly uncomfortable and the rooms and especially the hallways were incredibly hot. I had to sleep with the window open all night which wasn't ideal as my room looked out onto Leith Walk main road which was busy and noisy all night. Needless to say I got very little sleep over 4 days. Couldn't wait to get back to my own bed. It's student accommodation so I wasn't expecting the Ritz but in comparison to other student accommodation I've stayed in this was not the best. I feel sorry for any student who has to stay in that room whilst studying.
The common room had a ping pong table but the sofa was knackered and visibly broken.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice student accommodation, can also use a kitchen which is great
- Verified traveler (6/5): window open-noise-traffic OK-pissheads NOT - This is on the main road, last time (2 years ago) we stayed at Desiny Murano which is set back. DM was £20 a night more, so booked this. The night we checked in DM was 41 instead of 57 paid here. GUTTED.
Loud traffic noise, and very loud "emotional people" at 3am plus.
- Gino (8/5): Fantastic - Really good price and excellent cleanliness. great staff who accommodated greatly
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dreadful - The staff were rude and unhelpful.
The toilet floor was dirty, stank of stale urine.
The bed looked unclean.
It was noisy and the room very hot.
Possibly the worst place I’ve ever stayed in.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Budget student dorm with ensuite rooms - Nice price for Edinburgh city centre. Buses take 5 min to princes street. If don’t mind student dormitory atmosphere, a very good choice for budget, clean and new premise.
- Biba (10/5): - This is the most ideal accommodation when you can get it - good price, clean furniture, good bathroom, no fuzzy filthy fabric unlike most budget places
- eduardo (8/5): Bring your own towel - Bring your own towel. They charge you for renting the towels
- mex (8/5): Nice and simple - Well relaxing and clean. Staff was very helpful. The environment was comfortable.
- Herman (8/5): A good stay - Very well situated in the center of Glasgow. Clean and well maintained.
- Sue (8/5): Great value, clean basic accommodation - Good value, great access to kitchen facilities, walk into town. Laundry available. Basic rooms but clean & fine
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location Friendly Staff - Very good location with bus stop right outside that takes you straight to the city centre. Calton hill and other places are within walking distance!!! Staff is very friendly and helpful, they provide all sorts of info and are willing to help you at anytime! We were very pleased by the service!!!
Bonus: Sainsbury's (supermarket) outside the accommodation!
- Verified traveler (8/5): clean and peaceful - This was good accommodation, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I'm not very sure about not providing a towel....and then offering to hire one out at £3!
But the bedding was clean, as was the room, and it was peaceful!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was clean and the service was friendly. Good area and cheap, perfect for the short stay we had.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel near Edinburgh centre
- Good distance to city centre, but bed very uncomfortable
- Rachel (8/5): Edinburgh fringe accommodation - Adequate for Edinburgh fringe a bit of a walk to centre of events. But all within walking distance.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Overall was nice room absolutely boiling and Windows don't open very far, there's a fan rental service though which takes some of the edge off
- Verified traveler (8/5): Central Location - Overall good central location. Clean, basic but excellent value for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Friendly staff, noisy rooms looking at the street. Room not clean (hair on the pillows, furry carpet).
- Sandra (8/5): Festival - This was our first experience staying in university accommodation we would definitely do it again very good use of fully equipped kitchen and although there was no room service however we were told before hand this was the case. There's 24hour reception. Easy to get onto Edinburgh by bus or 20mins walk
- Justine (6/5): Tiny contained student accommodation - We enjoyed the location of the accommodation. The room was very small but had a bathroom and desk. There were construction works happening right outside our window so at 7:30am the jack hammer began and sleep was impossible!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall happy. Rooms were basic but clean and en suite. Bed was comfortable. We were facing the main road, which was noisy but this was expected as it was on a main road. Room was fine and no complaints, however the heat of the whole building including the room was very nearly unbearable. When I checked in all the guests already checked in were renting fans (£20 deposit needed) and I regretted not doing so.
There is also a £5 charge for left luggage for the day of checkout, which is quite frankly a joke. What hotel charges guests to leave their luggage for a few hours?
Overall good value considering Fringe festival is on and most hotels are very expensive (I noticed the ibis were charging £220 plus for a room the weekend I stayed).
- Will (8/5): Excelent location, clean room but slightly uncomfy - If you are expecting more than student halls then dont bother, but considering it was better than my university halls it was well worth the money. The only issue was that my room was slightly hot (even with the window open) and the bed was a little uncomfy otherwise was great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Reasonable rate for a location close to the centre - Staff were very helpful and friendly; the bulding is generally neat, light and airy. The studio flat in the penthouse is spacious, clean and neat....unfortunately the two double bed rooms, that some of our party of six occupied, were not as clean as the studio flat. We found both the double bed rooms' floor had not been properly and thoroughly cleaned .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good prize - facilities - I passed three nights with my boyfriend. It Has good location, 20 minutes from hotel to train Station. The room has a double bed, a table and private bathroom (if you choose it), the kitchen has all the necessary. Comfortable bed. It is close to sainstbury and Tesco. Highly recommended. Good prize!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good quality budget hotel - Me and my wife went to Edinburg for her graduations and everything was quite expensive. We found this hotel and we loved it. Location was close, cost was in our budget and rooms were great.
- Ciara (4/5): Not good for more than 1 person and noisy as hell. - If there's more than 1 person in your room and you want to book a 'double room' I would recommend not doing it here. The bed was so small me and my friend had to go top to tail and there still wasn't much room. Plus they're building something behind the hotel which is incredible loud so you won't need an alarm unless you want to be up before 7:00am. I'm not joking either, it was so loud me and my friend ended up laughing at how absolutely ridiculous it was!
However all of that aside, if you are a single person sleeping in a room and don't mind a bit of noise then I would recommend as it's in an okay place and good condition.
- Pete (6/5): comfortable apart from the street noise - Plain but comfortable accommodation on a very busy road surrounded by roadworks and construction so very noisy.
- Xavier (10/5): Cheap and well located in a brand new building. - Cheap and well located in a brand new building.
- Siu Lun (4/5): - very bad
- mehdi (4/5): Very very very small room no towel no toiletry - Nothing in the room even no towel just unconfortable bed .basic thing they don't provide it ....
- Biscuitoria (6/5): Good for one night - Took 50mins to check in due to staff chatting with previous arrivers.
Walk for ages from lift to room.
Tiny bed, solid and uncomfortable barely enough room for two.
Did for the 7hrs we spent asleep but not worth it for any longer a stay.
- Kata (8/5): Hotel is in very good position - Hotel was very clean but matrace was very soft we couldn't sleep well. Apart of matrace everything was what we expect.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Over all adequate and comfortable. The staff in reception were friendly and helpful. The free wifi was a complicated process to register. The television didn't work for the entire 6 day stay despite being reported on the first day.
- Heather (8/5): Basic accommodation - Very basic accommodation, bearing in mind it's student accommodation for half of the year. No tea/coffee facilities although previous occupants had left some coffee in the kitchen. Unfortunately hot water wasn't working on the first night of our stay but that was rectified the next day. Bed also not very comfy, very thin mattress. Good accomodarion for time spent in it. Great access to city centre, bus stops right outside of building or tram stop a 10 minute walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap and cheerful hostel - You get what you pay for. Nothing wrong with this establishment considering the price. Very clean. No bath towel or toiletries as this is a hostel. The room is small, Small, SMALL! As long as you know you are staying in hostel/student accommodation you will not have overly high expectations and compare to a hotel costing double.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Student Halls, basic as you'd expect but clean, cheap and not too far from the city centre. However there were small children staying in the same flat which I didn't expect from student accommodation.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok stay in Edinburg - almost noting in the room, except a bed.
- ian (10/5): Inexpensive place near to city centre. - Treated efficiently and effectively on arrival. Staff cheery and polite. Room was just what was needed though walls a little thin.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Affordable hostel close to city centre. - Brilliant value for money and the cleanliness was of a very high standard. However the room was unbearably hot and windows only open a tiny bit allowing no ventilation. Very noisy too.
- Andy (8/5): Cheap festival accommodation - Stayed in similar places over the years. No facilities as such but cheap clean modern en-suite rooms at knock down prices for Edinburgh during the festival. Location is great too, Leith Walk has come in leaps and bounds so coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance, Princes St 15 mins walk. Only downside is that the rooms are hot and road noise very loud if you open the window, oh and doors tend to slam so don't expect to sleep in! Towels £5 and early check out too, but you won't get the same standard for this price anywhere else.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Self Catering Accommodation in Central Edinburgh - Nice accommodation within walking distance to all sights. Cooking facilities to help keep the cost down
