- Maria (8/5): A lovely, relaxing stay before undertaking a tour of Sri Lankan heritage sites. - The property well maintained, clean and the staff were really helpful. The pool was small, but large enough for the two of us and was very relaxing. The only slight problem was that you had to cross the railway lines to get to the beach. However, as the pool area was lovely, it wasn’t a major issue.

Room is average size with attached showeroom and balcony. Happy with the cleaniness of the room. Overall, it was a good experience and will use again.

We had multiple cocroaches in our room on the ground floor, the window was broken in the toilet, and the mosquito net was torn. All and all, the hotel is quite run down and would need a renovation. We were disappointed because it looked very different in the photos.

- Hyvarinen (10/5): Nice stay, lovely staff, nice interior - Nice room with balcony, clean&safe. I stayed total of 5 nights. They refilled amentities as I ran out, just remember to ask daytime. I didn't feel necessary unsafe but I took the longer route to the beach after first day. Evening time I used Uber to get places.

- Emily (7/5): Good - The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. There are 2 train stations nearby which is handy if that’s how you’re travelling. You can easily do a day trip into Colombo via the train which leaves fairly regularly from mount Lavinia station. Can walk to the beach across the train track. There is a supermarket and wine shop within a few minutes walking distance. There was no soap or other toiletries, no drinking water. Basic things like this should be included when you’re paying this much for a room. The lights in the hallway shone very brightly into the room from the window above the door. I got up a few times to turn them off but they kept getting turned back on. Not sure why, we were the only guests here. Nobody at reception to ask. The wifi was terrible, would connect for a minute then immediately drop out.

- John (10/5): A hotel that earns every one of its high marks - The property has called upon its history of struggles and achievements during its colonial past to make the decoration and wall hangings into something that is a daily source of interest to its visitors. They have successfully blended that with a small swimming pool and other decoration to give an immediate feeling of relaxation. The proximity of a family beach which stretches for miles in both directions and also houses cafes and restaurants with value prices to dream about I feel sure that many of the things that I found such a feature of daily pleasure will be another person’s area for niggling criticism. I however, can only make my own judgement based on having enjoyed a holiday to remember which was in no small way attributed to this hotel and its lovely staff

- Verified traveler (4/5): Did the job, but just! - The Villa in Lavinia is a nice-enough, quaint property and on the whole, well run by the owner and staff, who were nice people, grateful for your patronage and always helpful. Its location is not in the nicest environment at the bottom of the street off Galle Road, just a hundred yards from the train track. Trains pass often with screaming horns at all hours, which has to happen given so many people live, (in dire poverty), at the railway line or cross the track in the normal course of the day/night. The room itself was basic, a little tired and could do with renovation and re-painting (at least). There was air-conditioning in the room, but wasn't always effective in a tropical climate. Sometimes the ceiling fan did the job more effectively. The bed was pretty 'hard', uncomfortable and old. The mattress under the sheets looked pretty dirty. The Wi-Fi was okay.....worked 50% of the time, though was set through an unsecured connection. It often dropped sporadically just when you needed it. The room had a fridge, which was great since you need to buy mineral water and keep it cold. The bathroom was good, but very tired and needs renovating - the shower-head was literally rusty. However, all this is in context since Sri Lanka is, at best, a 2nd world country/developing nation.

Air conditioning remote didn’t work so unable to adjust temperature. Had to stand on a little table to turn it on and off at the ceiling. Minor issue and can imagine it’s not the case for other rooms.
- Swarna Mahinda (6/5): - Inside shower room, toilet bowl and wash basing arrangement are not safe, as sitting in the toilet is not safe due to wash basing square slab with sharp corners. This is a health and safety issue, accident waiting to happen, requires urgent revisit the washrooms and attend to appropriate resifting of wash basing so on to make safe. I alert this issue with the manger InCharge, and he acknowledged the issue. A simple modification of bathroom would solve the problem.

- Michael (6/5): Great location but the property needs some attention - This property is my favourite and stayed 3 times before. Sadly this time it showed some tiredness and need for a bit of maintenance. I totally get that last few years were tough and it’s difficult the spend money on property if it’s still not too busy. Anyway the manager is very attentive with lots of experience and I’m sure he’ll bring the place to its former glory. The cleanliness could have been better and perhaps a better training to the cleaning crew would be useful.

Customer service goes a long way and so a special thanks to all the staff members, Yogi, Krisho, Akash, Mihisara, Saleem uncle and the Manager! They were very welcoming, attended all my requests and took care of me like their own. They are very kind hearted people and will make you feel like at home. The best part was the relaxing swimming pool! Will definitely be back!

- Nathan (10/5): This place is a great getaway. - It’s hard to fault this place. Staff and owner are friendly, generous and helpful with any request or need. Beach is lovely, clean, very close by and accessible. You can fish, swim, or just enjoy a beverage at the local surf club. Shops and supermarket just a short walk away and have all you need for your stay. Hotel pool is a tropical gem, clean and well maintained. Rooms are comfortable, hot water showers, air conditioned, each has a private courtyard, refrigerator and excellent television with a good selection of English channels if you need that. The area is laid back and the locals are friendly. I’d recommend the stay here and will return when I’m next in the area. Happy travels! 😊 Nothing

The manager was very kind, helpful, and full of tips and recommendations if you need them. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and polite too.
