• G6658NGleem (2/5): Bait and switch - Lobby was nice. Got to check in and was told we had to stay in a different hotel 2 roads away. Upon entering the entrance smelt off urine, walked further into the building to be greeted by the smell of an Asian spice market. The room was a “premium family room” consisting of a broken wardrobe and drawers mattresses that had to be at least 20 years old, children’s dirty handprints everywhere. The shower room was so dirty I wouldn’t wash a dogs balls in there. We lasted 40 minutes in the room due to smell, noise and the general dirty mess of a so called hotel. This was a classic bait and switch scam.
• WanderingJuice (10/5): Sublime Service - Jim and his team were fabulous! So accommodating and polite, they went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We were given a parking space and the room was warm, with a superb refreshing, powerful shower to boot. Highly recommended!
• leannegA4776WA (10/5): good location - Comfortable, good location, helpful and friendly staff, was handy as I had arrived late from the train station so didn't need to walk too far after a long day of travel, needed to stay another night and was given the same reasonable rate even with it being a weekend.
• F7634JCmandyb (2/5): READ THE REVIEWS ALWAYS - Not sure where to start really. This review I have given 1 star as the bed was, quite comfy. But it stops there. No stars would be more appropriate.. When people say read the Reviews, then I really mean that. This is a shocking hotel , I did complain to a manager who refused to give his name , and really did not satisfy me with good enough reason as to why, totally unacceptable, and NOT professional I showed him all of the issues as you see on the photos . This is a budget room that should be sold at a budget price not £120. A refund I hope via booking.com will appear, very soon 😳in my account Room no 6 was not clean at all , in fact I think the cleaner needs to re think it’s role , my daughter refused to sleep in the bed, so slept in her Oodi & pj bottoms on top of the bed. Serious health & safety issues here. If this hotel is being used for persons with homeless issues, trust me I have no problem with that at all. You cannot then expect to re sell rooms for premium prices. Having spoken to a guest confirms it is a half way house for people struggling Feel SO disappointed ripped off , I hope that the manager with no name stands by his word and sorts some form of refund in full. Even the locals are aware of the poor state of this establishment The hotel inspector would have a field day The manager with no name was not even brave enough to come and speak with me prior to check out . SHAME ON YOU ! Would NOT recommend Would NEVER stay here again 🤮😷
• monikakorendova (2/5): Avoid, the pictures they've put lye. Really poor hygiene - The hotel was very dated, it had a particular smell to it. The rooms were dirty and smelled. Had to change my pillows because they were moldy. I give them an extra point for giving me new pillows. The area didn't feel safe. Overall disappointing experience, definitely not going back.
• H9281DRfrankr (2/5): Very disappointed, for £150 for one night. A disgrace. - Where do they take photos for this hotel,The Ritz in London. Grubby and shabby and dirty. I ws expecting something special for the price. I stayed at a Michelin Star hotel in Wiltshire a couple of weeks ago, much cheaper and far superior. This is possible the worst hotel my wife and I have stayed in. I advise anybody considering booking this hotel to read the reviews, I didn't. I regret. Great place to visit, Southend, but don't stay hers.
• James (4/5): Wellbeck Hotel, Westcliff on Sea. - Tired rooms with a musty smell to them. It was cheap for the area and that is reflected in the condition of the room. If you are looking for a place to crash and dont intend to stay in the room long, it is tolerable. The staff were friendly and accomodating.
• Rikki (4/5): Rip off - Room was very dirty and the whole place is a bit run down. The room keeping consists of making he bed only. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was ripped off paying £55 per night. It should be more like £30.

• Taner (6/5): - The creaky floors and thin walls all over the property makes it very difficult to sleep at night. I could hear windows blowing open and closed all night from next-door. There was just too much background noise. However, it was generally very clean and not bad for the price.

I could not use the shiwer because the bathroom was unclean. I really believe that if there were proper regulations for letting such a room then it would not be able to be let.
• Anthonyell (2/5): Disgusting and shocking service - Absolutely Disgusting hotel shocking service after a 5 hr drive and tried calling 8 times to say I’ll arrive 20 mins past there check in time to be locked out n had to sleep in the van then check in to a room which was disgusting and staff was so rude Wen I asked for a refund to be told if u don’t like the room tuff u have paid now there is the door
• Benjamin (4/5): Not a Hotel - Welbeck hotel do not warrant a charge of £70.00. Its the most basic of places I've stayed at, the bed was the most uncomfortable to sleep on, the shower rail was filthy, the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, the window blinds in the room were very filthy to even touch. Never again.
• markjC7854ZD (2/5): An education! - It’s as if squatters have taken over a dwelling vacated for a couple of years and realised that money can be made by letting rooms! Utterly disgusting! 3 nights in room 16, top floor, police at reception and on balcony above entrance dealing with a resident on my 2nd night, and woken on day 3 with the wailing of a couple in the throws of passion.. dilapidated to say the least, book early and pay the same at a Travelodge or Premier Inn. You have been warned! AVOID
• Nevertooldtolearn (2/5): Barely a 1 star let alone a 3 star - The location of this 'hotel' is really good. Sadly the same cant be said about the accommodation. I reviewed before booking and called to query a thing from a previous review about points on the reviews. Given lies.

Dropped my phone down the side of the bed....undescribeable stuff under there when my huband lifted it up... 🤮🤮. The flat opposite seemed tonhave permanent dwelling people living there....if you can call them people. THE Language,abuse nd fighting kept u awake most of the night,and relly wanted to pack up and come home whrn they started throwing food at the door. We booked for 1 night ,spur of the moment. Dont like to.leave awful reviews,but would so hate anyone to go through the experience we had. Please avoid.

• 741katjag (2/5): Avoid like the plague - This place is a dump. Dirty sheets, stained towels with holes, no housekeeping, expired milk. We paid for two nights but left after one night and found alternative accommodation as we couldn't bear to sleep here again. It's just disgusting, nothing like the pictures provided by management and shouldn't be allowed to be called a hotel.
• rosebayfind (4/5): Shabby collection of rooms across several buildings - We checked into 'The Welbeck Hotel' and were shown to our room across the road in another building. It was shabby, dated and just about functional. Rather than a hotel this is just a collection of rooms across several buildings. There are no staff except in the reception - I suspect the only other people who enter here are the ones who 'clean the rooms' - some re-training needed here - poor job! It seems that nothing has been done to bring this place up to spec for a very long time.

• 775dawns (2/5): A complete rip off. - Where to start... Dirty, unclean, holes in the wall, a balcony door with no key, no plug for the sink, no pole for the shower, small, VERY smallbath towels which were also grubby. Water stains on the ceiling. Handles broken on furniture, curtains hanging off the rails AND MUCH MORE. If you pay more than £30 for this hotel you have been ripped off. And don't expect to be shown to your room, we were just pointed in the right direction!

• Dean (2/5): A perfect hotel if u like bed bugs eating you - The hotel is situated not far from the waterfront and about 30 minutes walk to Southend. The exterior is fairly tidy looking and the guy who checked us in was pleasant. We had a family room with 2 single and a double bed and bathroom which was a little rough but adequate. Unfortunately my son who I work with woke me up in the middle of the night saying he was getting bitten by bed bugs! I told him to change beds which he did but then got woken again 30 minutes later saying that this bed was even worse and he was sleeping in the car which he did. I hadn't felt any affects of this and stayed in the room. The next morning he came back up to the room covered in bites and I noticed I was too, we lifted the mattresses and couldn't believe the amount of bugs under them which we have video evidence. The hotel had no night porter to complain to and we left at 6 am. We stayed in room 6. This hotel has serious issues in this room possibley every room. Certainly would not use again.
• bonnie4570 (2/5): Work - Reports of mice in bedroom. Filthy rooms old rundown. Hate to think what the kitchen it's like. Let the homeless sleep here for nothing because they should not charge people money for this filth. Don't go here you may catch an illness. Needs to be shutdown.
• Peter (2/5): Awful, never again - The room was dirty, the towels were stained, the cups were dirty, the coffee in the jar tasted disgusting so god knows how long it had been there, the mattress on the beds were so soft we hardly slept, there were people on the landing shouting and slamming doors at midnight, was just awful, would never stay there again.

• SarahG870 (2/5): Great location, needs a good clean - This place is located very near the beach. Unfortunately, the room was very dirty as was the bathroom. The furnishings are tired and old. If they spent a bit of money, it could be lovely. There is no breakfast available but they have a communal kitchen.

• CharlottePorter16 (2/5): Avoid if with children - The room we stayed in was in a building opposite the hotel and for most of the night the people in the room next to us were screaming at each other. Which was not great when we had our 1 year old son with us. We did not feel safe at all. We tried to find a member of staff to speak to at the time but there was no one around to help us. When my husband went outside there were people sat outside drinking and so I just don't think this hotel was in a great area. The room itself was big and the guy who was there when we arrived was nice but those are the only two good things about this hotel. Even when we checked out it took 5 minutes before anyone came to the door to take the keys.
• kram74 (2/5): Tired and in need of some basic repairs - I am a great believer in you pay for what you get, however I was disappointed with my staff here mainly due to the lack of basic repairs The shower head was held to the pole with a plastic bag, however on turning on the shower the head span around soaking the ceiling and then the window, it was impossible to use. The bathroom lock had at some point broke, so a screw had been used as the part used to slide the lock across, it cut my thumb on first use The furniture in the room is tired, the seat had more stains on it that I could even try and consider counting Parking is an absolute nitemare Behind the hotel is a limited 4 space parking section, however the road at the side of the building is so narrow, with over grown ivy that trying to get into the carpark is extreme difficult, and then to find there is no spaces left, leaves you having to reverse with a couple of inches either side, large brick obstacles on one side and a restricted view from ivy on the other This place needs a few pounds spending A new shower pole, that actually holds the head in place rather than spinning around like a Catherine wheel are a few quid, a new lock again a few quid, cutting back the ivy to allow a view to exit a very tight parking area ? Free Come on guys a few basic updates to allow guests to be able to shower and lock the bathroom door without injury
• 632rias (2/5): Disgusting - Place was so unclean and falling apart. Showew didn't work, floor was covered in dust, could feel doing in matress. The bathroom tiles were covered in dirt and clearly hadn't been cleaned properly for a long time. f The pictures say it all. avoid!!
