- Beth (10/5): Worth The Drive to the PSU Campus - We felt so fortunate to stay at the Gage Mansion while in central Pennsylvania for our son's recent Penn State graduation. While the inn is a 45 minute car ride from campus (and full disclosure: a really hilly, windy one at that), like many PSU parents we found ourselves looking for alternatives miles from campus as State College has a well-known shortage of hotel beds for its big weekends. Innkeeper Nancy is SO lovely. Besides being a wonderful cook and attentive host, she went out of her way to make us comfortable and had suggestions for things to do during our down time. The late arrival check-in process was self-service, but really easy and perfect for our busy schedule. The property negatives were minor ones: Our room was beautifully appointed but small compared to most hotel rooms. On the other hand, our bathroom was roomy, stunning and immaculate. (The fluffy white robes on the door were an appreciated touch.) Breakfast was bountiful and delicious both mornings and Nancy's personal tableside service was impeccable. The inn has an interesting history we appreciated learning about. It's great to see historic properties like this restored and thriving. Despite the tedious distance from campus, the surroundings made up for it and we would gladly book here again should our travels bring us to this part of this beautiful region again.

I found Nancy to be friendly and accomodating. The mansion and the rooms were stunning. Waking up to breakfast cooking downstairs was amazing. We loved it so much that we plan to stay there every time we visit.

- Adam (10/5): Beautiful place! - What a beautiful place! It truly is a mansion! Loved the artwork, the woodwork of the interior, the coziness of the rooms, and the overall charm of the building. Seems like a place trapped in time, but still with several modern amenities such as the HD TV in the room and the remote controlled fan and AC unit.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful inn - disturbed sleep - The BandB is gorgeous, the innkeeper so friendly and helpful, convenient, the food was great and ample, and the whole inn was so clean and well maintained. But I gave it a 3 rating overall because of two things- the train woke us up every half hour throughout the night because we are not used to noise at night and it had to blow the whistle at the nearby intersection every time the train travels past - and that was frequent. Thing two was that our beautiful room shared a door with the abutting room and that person had their TV on very loud and we could hear every word. We had to go over to ask her to turn it down which she obliged a little- which helped a little- but still not great. I just think a place as serene as this shouldn’t necessarily have tvs in every room and have the option of protected quiet rooms, or tv only in the common space.

- Nancy (10/5): - We stayed for a night at the Gage Mansion in August while moving our son into Penn State. It’s about a 45 minute drive but all of the local hotels were booked. We chose Gage b/c of its beauty and historical significance. We were not disappointed. The home is just gorgeous, well decorated, very clean. We arrived well past normal checkin. The after hours checkin was very straightforward and there was fresh water for us to take to our room. The room matched the pictures online. The caretaker, Nancy, is so very friendly and a fantastic cook! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast served in a beautiful ‘dining room’ at our appointed time; we at with two other couples…a nice way to start the day. Oh, and coffee is available anytime, right near the fresh water. The grounds are also beautiful, with several outdoor seating options. The property is tucked in amongst other buildings so it’s not a ‘country getaway’..just FYI. All in all, strong recommendation for the Gage.

The bed is so comfortable and the furniture pieces are fitting and thought out well. As this is an older home it is not too loud, meaning walking on the old floors. There is a wonderful outside sitting area.

Right downtown and easy walking distance to a couple of restaurants and bars. The restored rooms and history are very cool. One note, if you are a light sleeper or are looking for peace and quiet, throw in some ear plugs. Between the trains, the old house radiators and nearby church bells, its not for those seeking silent serenity.
