Verified traveler (10/5): Better than the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco - Although this property does not have an onsite restaurant/ so no room service… I can honestly say this hotel has nicer accommodations than the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco!!! The bathroom was absolutely fantastic - huge stand alone bathtub, giant shower with a bench, heated floors!!! Separate toilet of course The room had its own Fireplace… beautiful and functional when it was cold and two very comfortable classy leather recliners to relax in after a day of walking around Carmel. I didn’t want to go back to our room at the Ritz it was so good. They also offer to deliver some fruit and croissants and coffee/tea/juice to your room in the morning. Just enough to help get you going. Great comforter/duvet and soft sheets… and the farm doors were so much fun and perfect for the weather. My kids loved to keep the top part open with the bottom closed and play in the courtyard with the beautiful water fountain and around the communal fireplace. Really great spot!! You won’t regret it.

Travis (9/5): Charming courtyard and room on a quiet street - Traveling with 2 kids and so staying in a room with a window trundle bed was perfect and charming, as was the entire room with dutch door and vaulted planked ceiling and fireplace. The bathroom was huge with beautiful finishes. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and conveniently served to the room. Parking was free and easily accessible in a parking lot across the street. The office manager at check in neglected to mention that we needed to request housekeeping so I was surprised to come back after a day as a tourist to unmade beds and a trash can that was in need of being emptied.

I liked the guys who ran the hotel. I wasn't given the room or rooms of my choice that I made when I made my reservation. I wanted a room with two chairs and had a room with only one chair. Also, there was no assistance with our bags. I'm 74 so that was a hardship for me.

Vagabond’s House is positioned closely to the “happenings” in Carmel, but far enough away where you weren’t disturbed or bothered. I’m a few words, this place is a little slice of Heaven. We LOVED our stay and cannot wait to come back!!!
Ellen (8/5): - The property is quiet and quaint with a charming, somewhat old-fashioned design. The rooms surround a cobblestone courtyard with lots of greenery, an outside fireplace with a table and some very low-seating chairs. Technology was up-to-date with Wifi, big-screen TV, texting communication with staff and charging ports on the lamps. Breakfast was also very nice with fresh fruit and fresh bagels - as well as other options like cereal, eggs, cream cheese, jam, coffee and/or tea. The staff were mostly very helpful and friendly with the exception of one person (the manager/owner I think). What I didn't like was the inconvenient parking down a steep hill away from the property - and the lack of consideration for accessibility. There was no place to unload except on the steep hilly street - no mention of any of this on the website. For someone with disabilities, it was very challenging. The staff did offer to help with unloading, which was nice. But I would think twice about staying there if you are physically challenged. The cobblestone grounds make walking with a cane or walker very difficult.

Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed here with my two teenage kids (ages 17 and 19) for 3 nights last week. I choose The Vagabond’s House after doing extensive research on places to stay in Carmel and I can truly say it was the best decision! It is a small quaint “inn” with a bed and breakfast feel. The courtyard and fire pit with garden and trickling fountain was an amazing spot to have coffee in the morning and wine in the afternoons. There is a self-serve barista in the “office” which is a charming room with fireplace and someone is always at the desk for any of your needs. Breakfast is brought to your room every morning at the time you choose. Wine, cheese and crackers start at 4:00 each afternoon. We stayed in Room 3 which is on the first floor right by the fountain which I could see and hear from my bed. No air conditioner, but we were very comfortable with the windows open at night. There was a king size bed with a twin with trundle in a window nook, perfect for the 3 of us. The bathroom was huge with a beautiful soaking tub and separate shower with heated tile floors. And along with all of these amazing things were Randall, Thomas and Ian, who were the ultimate hosts—so welcoming and friendly and someone always available to take care of your every need. I highly recommend and will definitely be back one day!

It was below expectations for the price point to be honest. The room felt old and tired needing some maintenance or updating. The windows were old single paned windows that leaked cold air and several panes were cracked. The blinds did not keep the sunlight out in the morning even though I had them shut all the way. The mattress felt very old and I could feel springs through it and it sagged into the middle. The breakfast was nice but the tea was forgotten this morning but was brought the first day. Just didn't meet expectations for over $300 per night. Disappointing Never received a reply from anyone. Disappointed that a hotel asks for feedback to improve presumably and doesn’t even bother to even reply. I would avoid.

The service was excellent; breakfast very good, and the room was immaculate. Only complaints: A bit noisy with people climbing stairs outside our window; parking was not too convenient, and the queen bed too small for the two of us. Overall, an excellent stay.

The only down fall was the bed, it had a huge dip in it and made the loudest noise everytime one of us moved. If they replaced the beds I would be back everytime I came to Carmel, but unfortunately the bed is so uncomfortable that our 2 night stay was quite sleepless.

chris (10/5): - Just perfect. The rooms, appointments, little extras, fixtures are all excellent- luxurious even. Bed is super comfy, fireplaces and firewood a nice touch, the decanter of sherry upon arrival! Staff is great. I would have liked a more elaborate breakfast to match the rest of the visit, but that's minor. Still a good breakfast.
Richard (8/5): Wonderful stay - Very good once again. Second year we’ve stayed here. Great service. Need more towels in rooms. No coffee in rooms but Quinn, the front desk manager, got us a small Mr Coffee and other items so we were set. Above and beyond! However at this price point shouldn’t be a. Issue. Otherwise great place well located in wonderful spot, Carmel by the sea.

Victoria (8/5): Pretty hotel, comfortable stay - Great character and lovely setting, with a nice room for 3 of us, comfortable beds, good shower. Only problem was noise in the morning - our room was directly adjoining reception so we could hear the coffee machine and kitchen staff from about 0730. The staff were extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble.
Verified traveler (10/5): - Very cool place to stay. The room was awesome. The little courtyard was nice and quaint. Sitting around the firepit with complimentary wine and snacks was awesome. The only criticism would be that the time allowed for that is too short. They have a menu you can preorder your breakfast from daily, and it is delivered to your room in the morning . It is a short walk to shops and restaurants. The beach is a bit further a walk than we hoped but it really isnt far, just means you cant hear the ocean from your beautiful room. We would definitely stay there again.

mercy (10/5): Great! - As first timers in Carmel, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vagabond's House Inn. We were in Room 4A with the private courtyard patio. The room was well designed to maximize the available space without feeling cramped. The bed was very comfortable and pillows were. The private patio had its own fountain and two chairs for relaxing. Breakfast is delivered to your room each morning. You choose your breakfast selections and delivery time. There is a firepit in the main courtyard, which is the perfect place to enjoy your evening wine and cheese. The staff was lovely and accommodating. The pink Camellias on the courtyard were in full bloom, lovely. Will definitely stay here again on a return trip to Carmel.

janet (10/5): What a nice charming and very comfortable hotel - We loved our stay at Vagabond!! Got the king room with the gas log fireplace. So comfortabl. Loved the complimentary Sherry in the room and the breakfast brought to the room in the morning. Also the fire pit in the courtyard was so cozy and a fun way to meet people. Quinn was so helpful to us and couldnt do enough for us. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Karen (10/5): First Time Back to Carmel in 40-Years - My wife and I like the charm of historic hotels. The Vagabond's House Inn is very nicely refurbished within the restrictions placed on restoring historic buildings. Some of the extras included fresh fruit and filtered water which was supplied to room each day. A wonderful continental breakfast was delivered to us each morning free of charge. There was even a carafe of cream sherry on the dresser. Each day the front desk manager, Randell, went above the the call of duty to make our stay wonderful.
Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Carmel Cottage! - We had such a wonderful stay at the Vagabond House! It was a beautiful Carmel cottage, that felt like our own. Service was impeccable, a friendly face to answer questions or help us get around. Others we met while there were frequent flyers, and I think we will be as well!
