Guest Reviews
- J (8/5): Good Value, Excellent Downtown Ottawa Location. Would book again. -
- Tremblay (8/5): - Tranquillité Et confort. Centre-ville Ottawa Bcp itinérants au centre-ville.

- Beatrice (7/5): -
- Toby (8/5): Very clean, nicely located and good value for money. - The location was great, the room and bathroom very clean and the price was very fair. The receptionist was also very jolly and friendly. The total ban on food and drink in the room was a bit inconvenient (I like to have a glass of water by my beside at night). And some guests did not turn off the fan even later in the evening (my room was next to the bathroom).

- Iman (10/5): A beautiful, quiet and enjoyable visit - The person in charge of the place is a wonderful person, and her reception of visitors is extremely polite. The place is very clean. I always recommend it. Nothing at all.

- Josee (10/5): Thank you for your hospitality and a wonderful stress free stay. We will be back! - Very clean and great location. Stayed here as I was moving my son back to Ottawa for school. Very comfortable and the staff was so kind! Nothing
- Chatterjee (10/5): -
- Iurii (8/5): It was good. - Location, personal, kitchen, cost. No table in the room, only one chair. But there are planty in the kitchen, so it's fine.
- Shing-Hoi (9/5): - Location was perfectly central to Ottawa, which was convenient for a person visiting for the first time. I liked the rule of no shoes indoors, which made it feel homely and cozy. The dining area, plentiful silverware, and the large fridge felt impressive, especially on nights where I was the lone tenant. This was the most I felt like I was in a personal space rather than renting a room. I would have liked the option to ask staff to not come into my room for cleaning. They ended up moving a lot of my stuff around without my knowledge, which was uncomfortable and also made me worry that my belongings were lost. I would have loved to know which days I could expect other guests.
I didn't know that our bath towels were provided inside the closet, so I used a hand towel from the bathroom for my shower the first night. It might be worth having the closet door open for guests when they arrive so they will see what is available.

- NHU (8/5): - Clean, convenient location The bed was uncomfortable, the room is small and hot and the fan didn’t help much
- Sumer Singh (10/5): Recommended - Good Room, neat and clean with all accessories. Polite and helpful staff. All good
- Dawn (6/5): - The accommodation itself was fine although old, but the smell inside was unbearable resembling that of urine. The surrounding streets are unfortunately lined with homeless which made me very uncomfortable walking.
- Donald (10/5): - Friendly staff and willingness to go the extra mile for their customers. Excellent location for walking to all of downtown attractions and food services.
- Rylee (10/5): - An amazing and kind human being who runs the swiss and the barefoot. the room was extremely clean and tidy and the bed was super comfortable. Shower was lovely and whole house was homey and beautiful to stay in. Felt very comfortable, relaxed, well taken care of, and rejuvenated the whole stay. Thank you so much.
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional -
- HOANG ANH TU (8/5): - The host and the staff are wonderful. The place is very clean.
- Sabina (10/5): - My stay at Barefoot Inn was wonderful! You check in at the Swiss hotel next door and the owner, Sabina was so wonderful! We have the same name so that was 😊! She is so friendly and lovely!! Barefoot Inn was really nice to stay in for two nights. It was clean, warm, colorful and inviting. Bed was comfortable. Sheets and pillows were really nice and very clean. Room was stocked with towels as was the bathroom. Kitchen has everything you'd need, cups, plates, coffee, tea, there is a TV in the living room downstairs. it's walking distance to many of the Embassies in Ottawa so if you are coming to do any kind of consular business like passport renewal it's perfect. I also walked to the Parliament hill, then over the Alexandra bridge to Gatineau,QC. So it's at a great location. All in all, a lovely place to stay in!
- Gurpreet (10/5): Great - Great. AC was on high but only got to medium cold but all else was great.
- Kingsley (9/5): Host is amazing. - Centrally located within major historical structure. The location is great.
- Irvin (10/5): - From my last review everything is walkable in Rideau and OC Transpo buses and 1 line is there close. Very convenient quiet and chill
- Irvin (10/5): - This barefoot inn and Swiss Hostel were the best stays ever, the bedding was nice the area was nice the owner and front desk was nice. Everything was nice and everything neatly laaid out. I can not wait to come back soon
- Fernando (10/5): - We loved our stay so much, everything was very clean and organized. Sabina was wonderful to us, super attentive and welcoming. The place is very well located, close to everything, right in the center of Ottawa!
- Mary (5/5): Passable -
- Maria Teresa (6/5): - The weather was hot and humid and there was no A/C in the room, only a fan, which did not really help to make us comfortable.
- Krishani (9/5): Very pleasant place, conveniently located in downtown Ottawa and within walking distance to popular tourist attractions. - Very nice and calm place. We had a pleasant and enjoyable stay. Due to flight delays, we arrived after the check-in time, but the hotel owner kindly assisted us in getting into our room. I greatly appreciate her support.
- Matthew (10/5): - Would stay again. It’s downtown so you get a minor drug issue, but basically lasts 2 blocks and then you’re in the beautiful downtown.
- Maan (1/5): This is not place for rest - Describing this place is very difficult. It is not a shelter for travelers. The room is very small, the beds are tired and uncomfortable, and the bathroom is shared. Is it a hotel or what? The receptionist is difficult to communicate with customers. If you are late after 10 pm, it closes and you will sleep in the street. Nothing
- Maan (1/5): I don't like anything about the hotel or what is called a hotel - This is not hotel , I surprised there are nothing in this place and the reception close early and small rooms and share bathroom . Nothing there as like hotels I don't like anything about the hotel or what is called a hotel
- Caroline (8/5): - It is like a cocoon in the city. Safe, quiet and cleen. Unfortunatly, no propane in the bbq. Spider's web in corner.
- Cody (8/5): - Was very well kept
- Kim (10/5): - very well located...close to several tourist sites. The owner is a sweet person.
- Zyad (8/5): Good - Location and bathroom cleanliness A bit expensive for hostel
- Siti (10/5): During my recent stay, I found Sabina, the host and her staff very hospitable and welcoming. Their warm demeanour made m - Guests can enjoy a homely environment with access to shared spaces and facilities provided by the host. No
- Ruth (8/5): - Wonderfully convenient place to stay. The neighbourhood is a bit noisy, but that is not the fault of the Inn, of course.
- Jennifer (10/5): - I had a lovely stay with everything i needed. Owner was friendly and helpful, and nearly all tourist attractions within walking distance.
- Shiho (6/5): - totally
good
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ndeye (6/5): It was okay - The fact that it felt like home The owner is kind of rude and looked like she didn’t want us there towards the end of our trip
- Cristiane (10/5): Cozy Convenience - We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Barefoot Hostel. What stood out the most was its exceptional value, offering all the essentials for a short stay: a well-equipped kitchen, bathroom amenities (including a hairdryer), and convenient proximity to tourist attractions. The easy access to public transportation added to the overall positive experience Regarding the Barefoot Hostel, the only inconvenience we encountered was the check-in time at 3:00 PM and the check-out time at 11:00 AM. However, this was mitigated by the option to leave our luggage there while taking a walk around the city
- pavel (10/5): - Very clean, good location, friendly stuff
- GAO (6/5): - Location is good, but too many homeless people around here. The staffs aren’t friendly. The front desk doesn't give room key. The room can not be locked when you go out.Never had such experience! There’s a fire exit in the room. Is it legal?
- Ahmed (9/5): Superb -
- Patrícia (10/5): - Great stay! Comfortable, quiet, super clean. Sabina and Christine were super friendly
- Majda (10/5): - Clean room Friendly Staff.
- Prashant (9/5): Superb -
- Arushi (9/5): Superb -
- Khairunnisa (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (8/5): Nice and cosy ! - The hostel is clean, cosy and offers everything you need for a few nights. It is really close to the By market. The owner is lovely and helpful. For example, we could leave our bags for the day at the reception. We will come back for sure during the summer !
- Olivier (10/5): - Very clean. Very quiet. Perfect for us.
- Tammy (7/5): Good -
- Fei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hall (8/5): Very good - An extra pillow would have been a real bonus.
- Shuxue (7/5): Good -
- Peter (1/5): Not - I didn't stay because nowhere was it mentioned that check in closes at 10pm until I had paid and was on my plane. So I stood for 20min outside in the rain trying to attract the manager before having to shift to another hotel at a much higher cost.
- Souvik (10/5): Exceptional - The location is prime and has a friendly vibe. You have to check in and check out from the Swiss hotel but that's fine.
- Peter (8/5): Good stay at No-frills place in Downtown Ottawa. - No Breakfast... Easy walk from Rideau Metro Station. Felt safe.
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Bernice (10/5): Tiny treasure - The Kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area was cosy None
- Madden (9/5): Superb -
- Brianna (10/5): - Barefoot Hostel exceeded my expectations, staff was incredibly friendly! The checkout was smooth, great location (everything was walking distance), lots of parking available and was extremely safe! Highly recommend to fellow female travellers.
- Emilie (8/5): - Établissement propre et bien pour une auberge de jeunesse, bien situé près du centre, reste tout de même cher pour la prestation selon moi mais très bien pour dormir quand même.
- marie (10/5): -
- Tammi (8/5): Handy - Easy to find and close to downtown... more parking would be better but understandable as the location doesnt allow, rooms are cute and clean bed was comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): surprise - a little bit cold. is heating work?
- Alberto (10/5): - Very good
- Nathalie (8/5): - Quiet & very clean. Had a wonderful stay, walking distance to everything.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Nice. Right near the heart of downtown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very central location. Super clean, quite and very affordable price
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sabina was so welcoming and very warm to me and the other girls staying in the hostel- I can’t recommend her enough! The hostel was very clean and we felt very safe at night- the beds are also extremely comfortable (I slept like a baby!) Sabina if you’re reading this it was so lovely to meet you and next time in Ottawa I will definitely stay with you again!
- Chi (4/5): - It was a nice hotel, located in a wrong neighborhood. The building acrossed the street had lots of drunk people yelling loud. I was unable to sleep until 2:00 AM.
The girld in my room was dirty. She put her stuff everywhere and hung her panties on the bunk bed, making the room appeared as a homeless shelter.
I recommend that you ask for a clean roommate and a room facing at the back of the building.
- HAKYOUNG (10/5): 호스텔은 너무좋았음 - 조용하고 깨끗했음 늦은 밤엔 주변이 좀무서우니 주의
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is such an excellent place for a solo woman travelling to stay.
Super comfortable beds and great shower.
- Francine (8/5): Clean, confy livingroom/Kitchen,lockers useful - It was excellent. Near everything, shopping, groceries, Byward Market and restaurants, buses, cabs, Parliament, museums and National Art Gallery, Canal Rideau etc... we had some snow but the weather was not too bad.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Escolheria outro hostel - Não tem café da manhã, nem aquecedor central. Check-in e check-out em outro prédio.
- Rachel (8/5): - Everything was clean and pristine, the staff were kind, and instructions/hotel etiquette were clear. Check in and check out were convenient and easy. The only problem I faced was the loud rumbling and whistling from the windows, as there was a storm on the night I stayed. I would suggest they renovate their windows.
- Suelen (10/5): Amazing - The hostel é a big house 2 floors, beautiful and confortable, everything new and clean. I missed just a stove in the kitchen, but has microwave so i could use it, and coffee machine and fridge. They clean the house everyday and change the towels. The checkin was fast and people very friendly, but they need a credit card as guarantee, so you must have one. The location is very good, near supermarket and bus stop, i loved stay there.
- DA (10/5): - This hostel is a calm, quiet place to stay, close to all the best locations in Ottawa.
- Bola (10/5): - The Hostel was clean, the bathrooms were clean and the customer service was excellent. The hostel is located close to main attractions in Ottawa. I would recommend this place.
- Amy (10/5): Would stay again - The hostel was clean and tidy. A nice place for my nights stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - .
- Terris (10/5): - Very kind and nice reception. Comfortable common area and clean bed and bathroom. Nice stay with budget price!
- TY (10/5): - Very positive. I will go back for another stay. Very clean, nice layout, considerate measure for the travelers. Location is great too
- Yan Ling (10/5): - The place is conveniently located in downtown where many museums are within walking distance. Staff at check in reception in Swiss hotel are friendly.
- Joyce (10/5): - The location is close to everything. Shopping, food and historical/tourist landmarks. Plus church if you may.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean hostel, comfortable bed. New towels offered daily. Probably your best best deal in Ottawa. Good wifi. It would help if there was a hot plate for cooking. Also, though there was no noise when I was there, I can image it getting a little rowdy, as all the rooms are closely connected. Still a good place to stay.
