Guest Reviews
- Shigeko (8/5): - noise from traffic
- Javier (8/5): - Even though is an old hotel you really feel the Japanese immersion, we slept on tatami mat and they gave us Yukatas, Kyoto station is just 15 min away.
- Nolen (10/5): - Lovely traditional style hotel! The room has a very nice homely feeling and the beds are very comfortable. The location is also 15 minutes walking distance from Kyoto Station and is right across the road from the serene Nishi Hongan-ji Temple.
- Kari-Anne (4/5): - We had rooms facing the 6 lane highway so loud and dirty. Everything felt dingy and not cared for. I have stayed at multiple ryokans earlier
- John (10/5): - It felt like home
- Nicole (10/5): - Me encantó, definitivamente regresaría y lo recomiendo ampliamente
- Rebekah (10/5): - I enjoyed staying in this ryokan, with tatami flooring and futon bed. There was a small private bathroom with bath/shower as well as a larger communal bathroom. The room had everything I needed and even a view of the amazing shrine next door.
- Dylan (10/5): - The place has a bath house! A ton of amenities available and good service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Ryokan, but... - Very warm welcome and impeccable service. On the other hand, the soundproofing is very poor and we could hear everything that was going on in the street (lots of passing cars and motorcyclists taking advantage of the straight line to accelerate). Apart from that, our room would have deserved to be renovated.
- Andreas (6/5): - Old
- seyedmohammadbagher (2/5): - I refused to stay. It was a disaster. I don’t recommend it to anyone
- Rebecca (8/5): - Traditional sleeping room
- Joachim (6/5): - Walls and windows are not soundproof and you can hear the traffic sounds.
- V9718DWbetha (10/5): Great place to stay in Kyoto - Great place and great service! If you want to experience a Japanese hotel - go for Azumaya. The hotel offers a nice rooftop for a great view of Kyoto Tower,
Temple and the mountains! Very near to Shinkansen Station!
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- CHI KEUNG (6/5): -
- MEI LING (8/5): Well & Nice Hostel - Good experience and the staff can speak English & Mandarin, the service is very good and can help you to solve problem. The traffic, can get on the bus no.9 at Kyoto station and get down at 2 nos. of bus stop. After get down the bus and walk back the direction and cross the road to opposite side and turn left side. Walk in through 6 & 7 nos. of house and arrived. In other way by walk from Kyoto station to Hostel are 10-15 minute. So it is accept by us. Overall is good for me.
- singthunder (2/5): noisy hotel - The hotel is next to the big main street. The whole night I cannot sleep due to non-stop street car driving by noise.
The window does not insulate the sound at all. The traffic noise is loud. The bathroom is very small.
The room is small too with a bit of old room smell when we walk in. There are many sticker patches on the wall. The room needs renovate. The tatami pad is thin. I feel the back is very hard when I sleep. I paid about $350 for one night but was not comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Angel Gonzalo (6/5): The hotel's rooms are traditionally japonese - There is only one japonese washroom for the whole building.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - In the peak season, the rate is a bit higher tha usual but it's worthy. The staffs are helpful as well.
- Dani Seattle (6/5): Bare Minimum - We wanted a traditional ryokan experience without spending a lot of money. We booked one night for $155 which was a lot compared to our other AirBnB experiences. The staff were very friendly and professional, check in was very easy. However the facilities are very very old and minimal. The walls of our room were worn and stained. Our bathroom was decently clean but had many hairs on the floor. They did have a small common bath that my companion enjoyed. Overall I was very disappointed in our stay and would jot recommend this area to anyone as I assume the hostels in the area would be much more comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Monique1794 (8/5): This place got one great thing, other Kyoto hotels don't. - Locate in front of Nishi Honganji, close to Kyoto station, No parking lot. No food provided. Facility is old, not very maintenanced. You can smoke balcony of hollway. Typical school trip hotel for kids. Price is resonable, I know much worth place but pricy.
One thing, I loved this place is They let us walk in rooftop. Most of place lock the dorr for rooftop for secury and safety reason.
Here, free to walk in. The view is great. Please enjoy Kyoto Tower light up and Dawn of Nishi-honganji.
- Katherine (4/5): lacking charm of a traditional ryokan - I wouldn't really call this a traditional ryokan. From what I understand, those typically provide meals, or at least breakfast; this does not. The room itself was fine, and as expected, though there was a large, unsightly stain on the floor mat. The bathroom was extremely tiny - felt like a cruise ship bathroom. While it was an easy 15 minute walk from the Kyoto train station, there wasn't much else around and it felt very deserted at night - had to walk 20 minutes to find breakfast each day. Fine, but wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a traditional ryokan experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Shiroll (6/5): Azumaya Ryokan stay experience - Staying here for 2 nights. Unfortunately when the time we stay here, it was raining. And really found tired to walk from the ryokan to JR Kyoto station esp with small kid. Nothing to explore at night the surrounding here. Very quiet and little bit dark but do feel safe walking in out around.
There is a family mart (forget is it call family Mart) nearby. That is once out ryokan, turn left and walk straight to the end and cross the road (traffic light) to opposite right side.
Coin laundry shop was also at end turn left , yellow color shop.
Opp the coin laundry was a capsule hotel or Inn. Cannot see the exact name from opp as raining n dark.
The room was not really big but still ok coz I think the hotel or guesthouse here all are mostly smaller side. But the bathroom was really too small. We book Japanese style triple room which have own bathroom. Just taken 1 pic only as a bit too tired after long walk with few heavy luggage. Need remember bring rain coat just in case for self walking traveler. But easy to buy one or umbrella at shop like family mart which around 500yen plus plus. Used taxi service to check in time and it costed 1000yen from Kyoto station to the Ryokan. We met an old uncle taxi driver and he was very friendly and nice. Just unable communicate as we don't speak Japanese and he don't understand any English at all. A must to learn simple Japanese words before come here.
- Ding Yuan (8/5):
- sharon (8/5): Great experience - It was wonderful to share this rare experience with my two children so that they got to know something other that a regular hotel. It was the best two nights sleep we have all had in along time. A must do in Japan!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Naka (8/5): Old Japanese Style Room, but it's comfortable ! - I had stayed only one night at the holel. The room isn't new, but if you likes Japanese tatami room, it's very good for staying! Reasonable price, and comfortable Japanese stye room.
- Roberto (8/5): Traditional Japanese hotel close to Kyoto station - The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was ok, if you are used to sleep in the floor! The location is very good, you can walk to Kyoto station.
- tamcgli (6/5): School Trip - This hostel was very accommodating for our group. The 7 and 5 bed private rooms were big enough for 7 and 5 college-aged males to sleep in them. If you do not have a private bathroom in your room, the shower is the shower in the bathhouse. The robes for the bathhouse are free to rent. We were able to store our luggage in the front lobby area for most of the day. However, you should check with the front desk beforehand. Breakfast is not served there. The Kyoto train station is about a 10 minute walk from the Hostel (doable with luggage; great breakfast options at the station). Some rooms have a view, some do not. Overall, a good experience for a few nights.
- ClementPierart (10/5): Cosy, classic and good value - 10min walk to the train station.
Nice and welcoming staff.
Clean and comfortable traditional rooms.
Nice public bath.
It is not the most bustling and exciting neighbourhood but it is easy to access the more lively areas.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Awesome Kyoto hotel - The location is on a main road so it gets noisy at times but honestly that is the only draw back, the staff was extremely nice and spoke English better than most Americans.
- rikkf (6/5): Reasonable value - Unlike other Ryokons, we were left on our own, with no fresh towels or room cleaning. The public baths were nice but I would have preferred an in-room toilet, sink and other amenities. Had to go to the lobby to use the internet and it was fairly flaky.
- Ryokan Kyoto (6/5): Traditional ryokan older style hotel. - Only stayed 1 night and wanted the ryokan experience. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful plus the hotel was in a great location.
The hotel hasn't been updated in a while but was clean and comfortable for a short visit.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- 961kenjic (8/5): 「Cozy & classic Ryokan」
-
It was very cozy & classic ryokan where all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Just located in front of the temple & the room where we have stayed had a stunning view. Well recommended. me , my wife and my daughter really enjoy stay in this hotel .
- MathysT (4/5): Basic and too expensive - Due to shortage of hotel rooms at the time we ended up at the Azumaya. We entered sceptically after reading reviews below, and were therefore positively suprised. It is all very basic, but clean (it is after all Japan). The staff was helpful and friendly, and we could leave luggage waiting for the train. It is close to the Nisji Hongan-Ji, but to far from the most attractive areas for tourists. We paid 44.000 yen for two rooms and that was defineatly too much. Lots of traffoc and rather noisy.
- VincentMsika (4/5): All right location but bad personnel - We couldn't stay in the waiting room after check out, simply got kicked out before waiting train. Quite disappointing, especially considering japanese standards. The location is fair, but no view from the rooms that are facing a close wall. There are better options for the same price range
