Greg (4/5): We got a comfy bed for the night. However, it was small room, tired facility. It could do with abit - We didn't have breakfast there. We were only vehicle in carpark and we didn't see any others staying there. But the motel was central and as we wanted to leave early to continue driving north that was good. When we checked in the manager at desk was quick and helpful.

The room had everything we needed, and we were especially pleased with the good water pressure in the shower. The parking was convenient, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived late, and they kindly left the keys and everything we needed for our arrival. The location was also very convenient for us — we arrived in Wellington by ferry in the evening, and the hotel was only about an hour’s drive away.
David (8/5): - The motel was off the main road and so fairly quiet. There was plenty of space in the unit we stayed in and it was comfortable. The staff were friendly. It's close to the town centre and supermarkets - easy walking distance. The motel is fairly dated so if you're after modern facilities then this is not the place for you. The TV was hard to work out but that could have been down to us being techno dinosaurs.
Laurel (1/5): Totally unsuitable for our needs - We did not stay at this motel. We had ordered a 2 bedroom stay for 4 nights. I rang the premises twice prior to leaving Australia to confirm that it was 2 actual bedrooms, not 1 bedroom and the other in the kitchen/lounge area, and I was told yes both times that it was 2 actual bedrooms - I was still doubtful so I had my friend in Levin NZ to also contact them, hoping she would speak to someone who spoke fluent English and understood what I needed. Alas she got a similar response to mine. On arrival my fears were confirmed. I had booked for 4 nights, but could not stay there, after a long discussion we left. I then had to find alternate accommodation, the only thing I could find was 2 nights not far away at another much nicer Motel and this 2 bedroom room was more suitable to our needs. The other 2 nights needed were spent at a batch in Hokio Beach and in Wellington as we were flying out the next day. I did lodge a detailed report with Booking.com, advising that our booking at Totara was not as we had requested and that we did not stay there. Booking.com were terrific and our refund was paid within 2 days. The room booked did not suit our needs, and the proprietor assured by telephone that it was 2 separate bedrooms. However on inspection with the proprietor on day of arrival it was in fact 1 bedroom with 2 single beds in the dining/kitchen/lounge area.

Shelley (10/5): This was a lovely surprise. The photos did not do it justice. Very comfortable and clean. - The accommodation was very clean and had everything we needed. It was had a lovely friendly dog next door called Jelly and it was a highlight to have pats and to be greeted by it through the fence. It was a quiet location and close to town. I would like to stay here again when I come through. It was at a good price point too, which means next time we come we would stay longer. No complaints.

Please to see they had taken on board my recommendations from my last stay of cleaning away cobwebs & replacing old & ripped net curtains. I wasn't happy when I woke up in the middle of the night to a cockroach crawling across the wall! They need to get in pest control. There was also no roach killer/fly spray. Very hard to get back to sleep after that!

If you stay there when it is wet, the room I had seemed to have something on the roof that made a banging sound and the harder the rain the quicker the bangs were. A tad off putting to say the least.

Easy walk to the laundromat, Woolworth and the warehouse The double bed was bit hard to sleep on and the flush button in the toilet kept getting stuck. Other than that, great place to stay.
