• Lei (10/5): The best Ryokan we have experienced. - It is a such exceptional stay in Kutsurogian, peaceful and enjoyable. Hotel staffs are very welcoming, and food is very fresh and traditional. As we are en route to Kiyotsukyo, hotel offered us the ride after our stay. This gave us a half day of extra time to enjoy Yuzawa afterwards. Totally beyond our expectations. Thank you very much! Nothing!

Ice cream in onsen is absolutely saiko. The view is considered one of the best in the area. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and I would definitely recommend this place for everyone. The facility maybe more traditional for some, but is still a great experience.

They provided a daily shuttle service even in bad weather, and they were very accommodating with our last-minute requests and changes. The onsen is very clean and comfortable. • Tristan (10/5): An unforgettable 3 nights at a magical place. - Kutsurogian was an outstanding location with a wonderful building and amazing views from the rooms. Most of all, the staff were excellent. They made our stay both relaxing and fun, and went above and beyond at every opportunity to help us get out and about during the day, along with providing pick up and drop off from the Shinkansen stations. The meals were magnificent. Breakfast and dinner were large meals with top-quality ingredients, and wonderful service. The dining rooms offer western or japanese seating, and there is even an irori (traditional hearth), which was a real treat. The onsen has two spaces, offering indoor and outdoor baths in both, and allow reservation by room in the evening so you can bathe with your partner. I cannot imagine how nice it will be when snowing. We were looking for a quiet weekend away from Tokyo, and chose Minamiuonuma in Niigata prefecture as somewhere new to visit. It was not a busy time of year as snow season had not yet started. The local Hakkeisan brewery district and Koji factory were fun things to visit, and there is plenty more within a day trip. I recommend that you ideally have a hire car to explore, but it is not essential, as the staff helped us out with drop off and pickup during the day. An unforgettable 3 nights at a magical place.
• Alessio (10/5): - My first experience in a ryokan and it really left the mark. The staff was the highlight of the stay, from the moment I arrived to the time I left I felt welcomed and pampered. The room was really nice and very spacious with a nice view and access to foot bath. The onsen were great and I spent some peaceful and relaxing time there, bonus points for being private and have access to drinks, including sake. I also had some awesome food, showcasing local ingredients with lots of dishes and variations without repeating across days. Special thanks to Kazu and Ayumi for making this experience even more memorable. I hope I can stay there again sometime in the future. Having to leave.
• HOCHIN (10/5): Comfortable stay to enjoy the countryside. - Kutsurogian is all about details. Staff are very professional and friendly in arranging everything to make the stay comfortable. We had a very relaxed and contented stay. Both dinner and breakfast were amazingly delicate and delicious. We had our meal by the hearth and feel so warm and wonderful. This inn offers a very exclusive experience staying in the countryside.

• Christo (10/5): The best place I have ever stayed! - The staff are absolutely amazing from every step of the stay. They make you feel like family and offer the best service I have ever experienced in a stay. The private onsen is amazing especially after a day out, they prepare dinner at a time that suits you. The shuttle service is very convenient offering a ride to attractions nearby, we found it amazing when skiing. The food is remarkable, with many courses of traditional and fresh food made for breakfast and lunch. The relaxing onsen outside is also a great feature, relaxing while snow falls around you. The mountain views from the room are amazing to wake up to, and even to sit and look outside is relaxing.

• Simon (10/5): - This is an exceptional ryokan. Only three rooms but very large rooms with a sunroom with "western style" chairs for those of us who aren't as limber as we used to be. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Quiet location with excellent views of the mountains. The food here is sensational and comes with English explanations of the dishes. They are very particular in adhering to any requests guests may have with regard to what they can and can't eat. The dining room has "western style" seating also. The onsen facilities are excellent. I can't recommend this ryokan highly enough. It is quite something.

• Karen (10/5): Amazing, relaxing, restorative - Amazing stay, so peaceful and clean. Staff were wonderful and gave us lots of unique experiences (like the sparklers!). They went above and beyond to accommodate us, which we really appreciated. Food was delicious and the onsens were gorgeous. Really hard to get to so definitely make use of their shuttle service which needs to be arranged in advance.

The staff service was exceptional - every detail was meticulously taken care of, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The food was absolutely delicious, and the onsen (hot spring) was incredible. I was thoroughly impressed by the high standards of this establishment. I would highly recommend Kutsurogion to anyone looking for a luxurious and relaxing getaway while value for money. 10 stars isn't enough - I'd give it 100 stars if I could!" My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer!
• Fred (10/5): - A “boutique” ryokan experience which exceeded all our expectations! If you seek a very authentic, “non-touristy” experience in a peaceful mountain setting, and appreciate excellent service, combined with authentic local charm, I can’t recommend this charming inn enough. Our large tatami mat room (beds are Japanese futon, and there is a private washroom) had a generous view of the mountains and valley below, and the countless small rice paddies beginning to sprout (we visited in Spring). The large onsen bath area was reserved for our private use, and included both an indoor and outdoor mineral pool. The kaiseki dining experience, in a private dining room (you can also choose to be served in your suite) was probably what amazed us the most - a seemingly endless bacchanal of specially prepared, and beautifully presented traditional and regional courses. My wife and I found it difficult to imagine that an Edo emperor would have enjoyed a more lavish feast! Though the room rate here is not inexpensive, such a dining experience alone could easily cost the same. Finally, the very friendly and helpful staff exceeded all our expectations. We didn’t have a car, but they kindly drove us to/from the train station, as well as to the local sake brewery and visitor center. This was an unforgettable experience!
• Feng (10/5): It was an unforgettable experience, I am looking forward to being here again. - Kutsurogian is a quiet traditional Japanese-style hotel behind the mountains with wonderful indoor and outdoor door onsen. Sitting in front of the room window, you can enjoy the spectacular snow view. The hotel is close to the nearby station，It will take 5mins to muikamarchi station. There are so many snow resorts nearby, it is very comfortable for relaxing in the hotel ‘s onsen, and then have a taste of the local food of the hotel after skiing. It is especially worth mentioning that the staff of the hotel is particularly enthusiastic, offering to provide shuttle services to the nearby station, snow resorts…When we need to go shopping, they also warmly send us to there. When we left, the staff gave my child two bathrobes. It would be better if the toilet had heating, for it feels a bit cold in winter.

• Verified traveler (10/5): 美好的住宿體驗! - 第一次住宿傳統日式溫泉飯店，雖然飯店人員的英文能力並不是太好，但還是用翻譯機很努力的試著跟我們說明，基本上溝通沒什麼問題，飯店人員對外國人的我們也很熱情友善。可以完全享有一間室內、露天相連的溫泉室使用權，飯店的早、晚餐也很美味有特色，是一家會讓人想再次回住的飯店。
