Guest Reviews
- Bahareh (2/5): - We recently stayed at Bruce Peninsula Motel and were shocked at the level of cleanliness. The washroom was completely uncleaned — there was even a used tissue with a squashed mosquito stuck to the door, which was never removed. The overall hygiene standards were unacceptable, and it made the stay very uncomfortable. Definitely not worth the money, and I would not recommend this place to anyone.
- S (2/5): - We booked using Expedia and the problems started from the instant I clicked ‘book’. We had agreed to the room charge of $179 per night as advertised, and expected taxes, but I received an email listing the charge as more than $1200 for 3 nights. There was a ‘property fee’ of $460 added to the bill. I immediately (within 5 minutes) reached out to Expedia to see if we could cancel the reservation. They told me that this was non-refundable, but that we could try to contact the property to see if they would waive fees for cancellation. We tried for days and could not make any kind of meaningful contact with the motel. Expedia tried on our behalf for 5 days and could not get in contact with them either.
Check in was NOT a smooth process, as we raised the issue of the ‘property fee’ with them at the time of check in. Jack, who was working the desk, had no idea what the charge was for. He explained that he was just an employee and not the manager, and he would have to call his boss. Of course when he tried, it went straight to voice mail. After several phone calls and texts to the person my husband had contacted previously, they agreed to give us the ‘walk in’ rate of $199 per night. Jack then gave us a handwritten receipt and took a photo of my credit card.
The beds were so hard we decided to leave one night early and drive home to sleep in comfort. I wrote a more detailed review but length is limited. DO NOT BOOK HERE!
- Fariborz malek (2/5): - I stayed here over the long weekend, and honestly, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a motel. For the extremely high price they charge – comparable to good hotels – there is absolutely no service for guests. There is no reception, no one around to assist you, and the overall condition of the place is unacceptable.
There was hair on the bedsheets when I arrived. Thankfully, I had brought my own sheets, but I still had to replace all the bedding myself. There was a coffee maker there, but there were no cups or mugs provided – not even two basic mugs – so you couldn’t make coffee even if you brought your own. There was also no coffee, no bottled water, nothing.
The towels were extremely old, worn out, and fraying. Everything felt neglected and outdated. With the money they charge, you can easily stay in a much nicer hotel with proper amenities and cleanliness.
I honestly don’t understand how they justify such a high price for a place with no amenities, no cleanliness, and no customer service. I would absolutely never recommend this motel to anyone.
- Oded (4/5): - first time in this place.
when we arrived, there was no one in the reception. the man who gave us service had doubt about our reservation which made 4 months before.
after we placed our luggage into the room we found out that the heating in the room wasn't working.
they remove us to the motel beside, the room was smaller and beds were in low level.
the shower was very small.
we paid very expensive price if we compare the motel to other stays that we've been to.
- James (4/5): - We arrived at the motel and it was closed. We called the number on the door and were told that they were closed but we could get a room at the next property. How did we get a confirmation from Expedia on a property that was closed?
- john (8/5): - Convenient, clean, staff very helpful
- Nastassja (10/5): - Very nice place
- Sabrina (8/5): - For the most part the hotel was good - some of the outdoor facilities, like the volleyball court and fire pit, could use some attention and cleaning. There were barbecues available to use with propane supplied. The room was clean, with enough towels and bedding for everyone we had in our party. The staff at check in was super friendly and knowledgeable. We called beforehand to clarify the towel and bedding fees and were pleasantly surprised to find out that information was from the previous owner and is no longer applicable (though it might still be good to call and verify just in case). The main draw back was the, lack of, wifi. We happen to have quite a fair bit of data, but if you don’t… make sure you download/print everything you need for your trip (parking passes, tickets, etc) while in an area with reliable wifi. Other than those few small “issues”, the property was really good, and is in a really good location.
- ALINE (8/5): - Very clean room/ bathroom and the staff was very friendly.
- Ron (10/5): Has a bed, tv, Coffee maker, fridge. Good enough! - Pretty good. Pretty good.
- Brian (4/5): - Under new management at this time. Feel that the cost per night was out of proportion to what you would normally expect. No change of linens, keurig was broken, fridge made noises, microwave was questionnable, could not get the TV to work. The BBQ was broken as well.
Since there is new management in place this may have been negligence with the previous owner or owners.
Priced way too high for what you would expect for this property.
- hua (8/5): - Nice
- Piumie (4/5): - Just can’t believe we had to spent that much for this two bed room motel when there’s no standard at all. We were up all night since we didn’t have the AC, tried to call the owner multiple times they never showed up until we checked out. There was no garbage bags inside the room , and not enough tissues ( only 2) for 4 people.
Overall the surrounding is calm and quiet which we liked but we were not happy since sleep was the most important thing after a hectic day!
- BAKTASH (4/5): - It was last minute book. Not my type of hotel to stay.
- Ankit (10/5): - The property is amazing
- Andrew (2/5): - We modified our booking via phone and they didn't honour the changes and charged us for 2 nights when we only stayed 1. Changes were made prior to policy deadline (over a week in advance).
Also beware towel charges. $15 per person per day, so we were charged $75 for towels for one night, and they only provided two towels.
Tried to resolve with the hotel owner, as well as through expedia and credit card, and we're out over $200 for a night we didn't stay, and towels we never were provided with.
Strongly recommend staying elsewhere following this experience.
- Blossom Kate (10/5): - My family & family Friends spent our Canada Day longweekend here, the staff and service exceeds our expectations they were very accomodating and hospitable as well as very friendly. They had Bonfire areas at the back which we love to do as family, its family friendly area and its near the downtown core too..
Cons: When you shower all at early once every room water weaken or even has no water.. however the management were very quick to action on this matter.
Definitely will recommend this place!
- alexey (2/5): - I did not like it
- Achinta (8/5): - Budget hotel
- Kevin (2/5): - No one here to check in. It took 30 minutes before we could get through to someone the WiFi and TV do not work. The room smell like sewer Very unhappy after this motel had such good reviews
- Dhruvil (10/5): - Very nice, near and clean with very affordable price. Definitely recommended.
- Norielyn (8/5): - Wifi is not working and bathrooms exhaust fan not working either.
- joe (6/5): - No internet and/or Wifi available in the room. Hence no TV, with two adults and three kids this made it difficult to keep everyone occupied. Also there no breakfast available. I thought we were included in the advert for the room.
- doug (4/5): - office is not staffed, have to call and then wait for someone to come; coffee maker didn't work, tv didn't work, no spare roll of toilet paper.. absolutely ridiculous for the amount of money
- Hagop (10/5): - It’s was very nice
- Mustaq (4/5): - No on-site staff despite the lobby showing a "open" sign permanently. Finding the office closed, we called the phone number on the office window and collected the key. Upon key drop-off next morning, nobody picked up our call so we had to leave the key in the return box and leave. They texted us back 15min later to check why we called.
- Virenkumar (2/5): - I was very unhappy as I noticed no Wi-Fi and I believe owner is aware of the issue and shared me the another network when I messaged him ; which I also unable to connect . He just kept saying it’s small town and hard to maintain big city standard but i really felt that there was no attempt to improve guest experience and just taking advantage of peak season as less alternative available in Bruce peninsula on busy weekend .
For the price they make you pay I am sure i am sure you should expect better . I was unable to start the AC and air fan and ended keeping window open ; luckily weather was not too hot. I have not seen anyone in the office and I am not usually complaining kind but no hot water at night for shower , soft mattress that reminded me of air bag and left me with sore back to start the my week. I honestly will advise others to rather drive more south and find better alternative then ended up staying there and regretting experience even after spending 890$ for 2 days . I would give one star for Expedia property star as I see no effort from them to give better experience.
- Marek (4/5): - Nobody was in the office to talk to. The wifi wasn't working, AC wasn't working, breakfast was not included either. Many spiders, mosquitos and other insects are flying next to room entrance, my kids were scarred to walk in or out because of that. I would not recommend it.
- Mallary (2/5): - I booked the peninsula motel, and then on the day I was supposed to arrive, they call and tell me that I wouldn't be staying at that motel, that I would be staying at a completely different motel, 10 mins from the original one! I booked that motel for a reason so to get told I paid to stay at one motel but I had to stay at a different one, was really annoying and very unprofessional! They shouldn't be taking bookings for the peninsula if it isn't open for business in the first place!
- Anne (6/5): - it was clean but the internet password didnt work and the tv and fridge in room 3 didnt work either... :(
- Vitalii (10/5): - Nice and quiet place!!
- Angeline (2/5): - No one is there at the front desk at 6pm though they say they are "open" . They double booked our room and the room itself had broken door handle and broken door frame (like someone had pushed their way earlier). Did not feel safe. Property looked like it was fully booked online but when you go there you see maybe 2 or 3 cars (if that). Definitely not going there again and would never recommend. Terrible customer service, mismanagement and disorganized.
- michelle (2/5): - The properties vicinity to where we needed to be was convient, thats it, this is a 50$ motel that charged 305, was supposed to be 264 with tax, however expedia site kicked my 12 year old son so they charged 40 extra for him, for what 2 3/4 mattresses from the 50's that was supposed to be doubles, no extra towels, floor was dirty could feel dirt on bare feet, says satellite tv, but doesn't work so you have to use your own prime and Amazon accounts to watch, oh a toilet stopped working an hour into our stay, and she still didn't give us a break. I have never left a review like this before, however this is well deserved
- Nancy (8/5): - Quiet and good conditions; clean and fonctional; air conditionning working well, microwave, fridge, etc. This is more of an old fashion motel. Very good to sleep. Restaurants are far and service is by phone so make sure you have everything you need.
- NIDUL (6/5): - It does not have any breakfast included in the package
- Helen (6/5): Great place to stay for an overnight - Quiet location and very welcoming staff
- Eric (6/5): - .
- Lyse (8/5): - The hosting communication was great. We reserved for five nights and would have appreciated coffee, tea, soap and towels etc for the length of our stay. We would have liked a directory of food options available for delivery.
When we arrived, the lock box was a great idea for late check-in. It was attached to a door knob that was loose and I had to keep tightening to stop from coming apart at each closure.
- Lashanthi (6/5): - Rooms are clean.
Internet Wi-Fi service is very slow.
room charges are high and not worth.
- Mina (8/5): - room and bathroom are clean
- Laurie (8/5): - Owners of the Peninsula Motel were earnest and highly accommodating. The property isn’t state of the art, but our beds slept well, the TV & cables were good and the recent flooring/furniture/bathroom renovations made a difference.
- Ye (10/5): - clean, cozy, comfortable, easy parking
- Junsub (10/5): - Honestly, i was surprised with the size of the room and cleaness.
- WILLIAM (6/5): - Surprised to arrive and not have anyone in the office or even at the motel on a Friday evening. It looked like it was closed down.
- Tony (10/5): - Close to my hiking destinations
- Bo (8/5): - The heater fan is noisy, not easy for a quiet sleep.
- Darren (10/5): - Spacious rooms, clean and quiet. Staff was helpful and went the extra mile to notify me via SMS of an item I left in the room.
- Gary (4/5): - This is an older run down motel. Despite advertising breakfast none was available. Our rooms rug was torn and did not appear clean. The white duvet was paper thin and greying. There were droplets of blood visible on one of the beds.
- Alfred (10/5): - Best motel I stayed at during my last couple of trips. Spacious, pleasantly decorated very clean bedding and pillows. Helpful staff.
- nicholas (4/5): - The hairdryer didn't work, The shower did not give enough hot water. Even after the floor was swept, they did not mop it. There was still dirt and lint on the floor. The tiny freezing section of a fridge had an ice pack that could not be dislodged, so there was no room to freeze our food. The fridge was enough to store our items but it froze our fresh food which spoiled it. We had to fix a section of window because it did not close properly, The room was not soundproof. You could hear the conversations. Luckily, they slept the night. The BBQ was dirty so we could not use it. The room was musty, not aired when we got in. We had leave both window and door opened.
- Natalie (2/5): - PLEASE do yourself a favour and do not use your hard-earned money here. I stay at more than 40 hotels/motels annually and this has been one of my worst experiences.
My first issue was the internet the website says they have wifi. Perhaps this is only in the rooms closer to the office. I stayed in room 7 and could not connect any device to the wifi as it only appeared if i stood at the doorway and the connection was so weak that a simple internet search was impossible. I had course work to complete but obviously could not. My concern was met with it is like that in all of Wiarton. This is untrue as I have stayed in motels nearby and did not have this issue.Second, the room was not clean. The tub looked like it was not clean after the previous guests and there were several dead bugs in the room. Third, if you
shower be prepared the water pressure is non existent. I notified the manager and was told a plumber would fix it and I would get a partial refund.I really needed the Internet for the evening and was told I could check out and receive a partial refund. I found another property and when I advised the Manager she renagged on her suggestion. The following day she called to aplogize and said she would refund me that did not happen. I will not get into the many texts and exchanges we had had all with empty promises and excuses. They do not take responsibility for their establishment and the customer service is poor.
They overcharge and allow people to camp on the property.
- Ximing (2/5): - The is the worst renting experience I have ever had.
We checked in around 7pm, and the owner told us that all rooms are booked (I booked one and half month ahead). So she settled us in a room in her office residence. Which is small and everything has to be shared. During the first night, she started setting up beds for outside campers in the breakfast room and made it very noisy and crowded. After the second day's trip we returned to the room, she started hosting parties with a group of strangers and kept us awake until 2am. So we checked out and left at 3am. The owner agreed to repay one night's fee but it never happened.
- Charlotte (2/5): - This motel was the most disgusting poorly run business I have been in a very long time! There were menus in our room that said that it included breakfast from 7 AM to 10 AM. When we asked what breakfast was they snubbed me off and said there was no breakfast they don’t serve it there. Extremely poor advertisement not to mention extremely false advertisement. For two nights they were going to charge me $700, and that was not the original price I had printed out from Expedia. The room was completely full of flies, We constantly were killing flies left right and centre for the eight hours of sleep that we stayed there. We used the outlets For our chargers and two people were electrocuted because the wires we’re showing from the lamps. Their kitchenette that they displayed there was in the bedroom, was actually just a microwave. We arrived very late at night around 11 o’clock because traffic was bad and they were was an accident on the highway. at first the little lady was pleasant. The following morning she was very adamant that I pay for my room. I told her I would be there once I was finished getting ready with the girls as this was our wellness trip Tobermory. We complained right away about the flies and the mould and the wet carpet the following morning as it was very late When we checked in as we were on the road for six hours prior To arriving to the Bruce Peninsula Motel. DO NOT STAY HERE! My vacation was ruined having to spend an entire day looking for another place!
- Olga (8/5): - Nice, quiet room, close to parks, restaurant.
- Shameed (10/5): - Great place, clean and comfortable. A bit pricey for a motel.
- CRISTINA (4/5): - The beds are very unconfortable and rooms over priced for the quality of the rooms.
- Wendy (4/5): - I am not sure how this property achieved the customer rating it has. Broken glass on dresser and desk. Sticky plastic sheeting out iced one if the broken pieces, we were asked if we needed air conditioning. It felt like 34 C outside!! There was hair all over the bathroom floor along the tub. This property is a BASIC motel ..no breakfasts, threadbare towel, thin non-supportive mattresses. If we had paid less than half of the rate we would have understood the conditions. We left after the first of two nights we had booked. She didn’t even ask why!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great
- Mark (6/5): Clean room/polite staff - Found it a bit expensive for what you get. No breakfast "due to Covid", stayed 2 nights and the room was not cleaned or made up, only had 1 roll of toilet paper and not enough towels. People were polite, room was clean but not quite worth $285 a night in(Tuesday and Wednesday) the middle of the week.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I did not expect much from the motel and I was disappointed. I felt it was overpriced, but I accepted it since there were few options in the area. The TV did not work. The wifi was slow and my requests for basic items were treated as an inconvenience.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I booked, at the beginning of Feb, the breakfast was included in price, when we arrived, we did not get any breakfast, we had to find other places and pay from our pockets; vacuum cleaning, making the bed & changing towels and taking the garbage out was did not happen and we stayed there 6 nights.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The owner is friendly.
- Xun (2/5): - Overbooked and dirty
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was great to have a Keurig machine in our room and a smart TV to connect directly to Netflix, etc. The check-in process was quick and the lady at the front desk was very nice. However, the room was definitely not the cleanest and the AC unit didn’t do much at all so the room was very stuffy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s a good location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - big room, fairly clean and friendly service
- Mitra (8/5): - Better than I expected. Good location, clean room
- Verified traveler (2/5): - you have to ask for room to be cleaned and towels changed and it doesn't always happen...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We were not given a continental breakfast, TV service or wifi password because there was no staff there to greet us at 6 pm. Satellite was down the only other customer told us. For the whole time?
I called a number posted, the women said she did not expect me but did ask me to put the only other customer of the place on the phone where she then instructed him to get a key out of a lockbox to give us a room. No-one there when we left in the morning, not a single soul so no promised breakfast.
My credit card was miraculously charged first thing next morning. Bu had not given it to her other than when booking online. I guess she found my booking. Very expensive and dissatisfied with all of it and so was my 85 year old mother.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Scammers I advise you stay away.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were super friendly and helpful. Nice clean rooms.
- Dawn (8/5): - Considering our stay was during Covid it was a pleasant stay. They were organized and the room was large.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Alice was a wonderful host by making sure the room was set up for us, recommended a place to eat * pizza place had great food* and checking out sunsets at Sauble.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Stayed one night and Got bed bugs from room one. 😩😩
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to Bruce Trail hiking destinations...quiet rooms
- Graziella (10/5): - Staff was accommodating and property's good location.
- Wael (10/5): - The staff was amazing, they were very friendly, and offered all possible assistance
- Jenn (10/5): - Comfortable stay. The room was clean and provided lots of space for our family. Staff was friendly. Would definitely stay here again if we headed up to Bruce Peninsula again.
- Maris (6/5): - Everything was clean and we felt there were no issues with that. The wifi however was unusable in our room and we found out the next morning that the Keurig machine didn't work.
- Victor (8/5): - The staff were excellent, very friendly and clean facilities. We will return again.
- Hana (10/5): - Loved the place defiantly will go back. It is clean, comfortable.
- Couscous (10/5): - Nous sommes un couple avec un chien et nous avons adoré notre séjour.
Personnel très courtois, très propre!
- Nate (10/5): - Great stay. Friendly staff and great location. Room was very clean. I would recommend it.
- Lynne (8/5): - Very friendly place to stay. They obviously care that your stat is excellent.
- Al (10/5): - first time staying at a motel with a BBQ and a fire pit, pretty great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was beautiful and very quiet. The staff was really nice and very helpful. They still offered breakfast, which was good. The only downside was the wifi, that didn't work properly, so we had to use our data during our trip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked the big room space, I didn’t like the carpet in our room and poor wifi connection.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent hotel, with renovated, clean rooms and coffee maker and fridge. Continental breakfast is a value-added bonus. Some dislikes:
- Low flow showerhead and low water pressure meant shower was not great. Plus no fan in bathroom means it gets quite steamy.
- No kettle and no tea available in room.
- Mattress is perhaps a little hard.
- dj (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay here. For the price it was worth it. Friendly staff, large rooms and perfect location (not far from all the major sites in all directions). The BBQ stations and fire pit were a hit.
Only recommendation would be for a better wifi. The current one didn’t provide much service.
Thank you.
- Kyria Saint-Fleur (10/5): Perfect Stay! - Everything was perfect and the host were AMAZING!
- Kelly (8/5): Thank you for our stay - Front desk was amazing, friendly, fast service. Well stocked with ice at a small change and some sundries. Beds crinkle when you move, picture going to bed in an old school plastic diaper — that’s the sound they make. Although clean a little upgrade on the white pleather headboard with rhinestone accents would be recommended along with maybe one or two more pillows. Bathroom very clean and nice but tap drain is sllllloooow so take heed when using. Breakfast counter department/room could use a little help. Outdoor is acceptable, big fire pit with lovely chairs, picnic tables with clean new stand bbqs. Use data WiFi is weak, loads of channels on TV poor cell reception in rooms
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stayed here with confidence - The Peninsula Motel was just what we needed after hiking on the Bruce Trail. Very clean, convenient and easy to get to. We loved the picnic tables, bbqs, and fire pit. The rooms were nicely decorated and the most important aspect of cleanliness was perfect.
- Patrick (4/5): - Very tired, old motel. Bed linen and towels so worn and thin.... Breakfast was no name bread products . Highway noise begins early. Will not return. Property for sale.
- Prajwal (8/5): - Rooms are very neat and beautiful. Staffs are friendly and helpful.
But the wifi isn't that good.
- Richard (8/5): - The location was good (right on Hwy 6), the room and bathrooms were clean. The bed and sheets were very comfortable (we had a good sleep). Very nice breakfast room and breakfast was decent (coffee was good).
Things that could be better
1) Not enough light. The two lamps were insufficient for the room (I asked for an additional lamp but it wasn’t available)
2) Wifi very weak. Websites were slow to open. YouTube worked but you had to lower video quality. Luckily I didn’t depend on Internet for my trip planning. We just needed it for entertainment.
3) The keys to the room were difficult to insert and pull out. It required a lot of force.
4) Microwave was placed on the carpet floor making it hard to open and close.
- Melissa (10/5): Nice little Motel - Well-kept, kind service, general amenities, 5 minute to downtown Wiarton.
- Sarah (8/5): - Liked the location. The renovation was good.
The wifi was terrible the tv selection was terrible.
- Rawa (8/5): - Breakfast should’ve been prepackaged individually instead of people helping themselves to it during this pandemic. I suggest packaging a yogurt, an apple or an orange, a big muffin or an English muffin or toast with packaged peanut butter and packaged jam.
- Alan Ho Yin (8/5): - Overall I am above satisfied of our stay. There are mosquitos flying around in the house
- Mai (8/5): - The room is large and the fridge is good. It would be better if there are more pillows and breakfast has some kind of meat and egg.
