Guest Reviews
- w g (8/5): - lovely room but very warm room no 81 ty dre
- tracy (10/5): - Great location within the walls - so much history
- Vladyslav (10/5): - Very good dinner and breakfast options at the place, and a great suit overall!
- Jeff (10/5): - Great comfortable room with a large modern bathroom very close to excellent pubs and restaurants. Would recommend.
- James (10/5): - This accommodation was an apartment on 4 floors. The apartment was in excellent condition and extremely comfortable. Check in was at the Black Boy (great food) and we were told the cheapest place to park, 5 minutes walk away. We would stay again.
- Addison (10/5): Best Find Ever!! - My friend and I stayed for a night, and we honestly think that this was a hidden gem. The beds were SO comfortable and the room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was honestly one of the best I've seen in the UK—the water pressure and temperature were perfect. There was a small kitchen in our room, and the room was right against the road but the area is really quiet. Check in was quick and there were a lot of parking options available. The restaurant was very fairly priced as well. We'd definitely recommend and definitely return.
- Heather (8/5): - Absolutely fabulous accommodation and staff. Helped resolve many travel problems we had.
- Geoffrey (10/5): - Lots of stairs but we loved it. Very close to buses and the fabulous castle .
The shower above the bath is not very safe and water goes everywhere.
- Brice (10/5): - Great location inside the castle walls. Walkable to pubs, coffee, restaurants. The only negative is no elevator have to walk up flights of stairs to get to you room
- Jon (8/5): - An enjoyable stay. Pleasant area and good facilities.
- Christopher (8/5): - The property is across from a pub which means it is very loud at night with people drinking and partying on the street in front of your windows. There is no close parking, so if you have a car be prepared to carry your luggage quite a distance. The closest overnight parking is about 1000 feet away.
- Phil (10/5): - Very well appointed, clean a lot of care given to quality
- David (8/5): - Accomadtion in great location
- Marian (6/5): - Nice room but in the attic. No lift which for someone with luggage and nearly 70 years old was not great. Would have been great to know beforehand. Checkin for all accomodation at the Blackboy Inn was busy as the lady had to look after everyone. Appointment had to be made for breakfast but had to say it was really good.
- Marleigh (10/5): - Great stay. Very nice rooms for the price and perfect nights sleep before Snowdon!
- Nichole (8/5): - Really nice rooms, big rooms, bed and tv. Even a kitchen which was unexpected. Would stay again
- Helen (8/5): - Tons of space in a great location!
- Abi (10/5): - Amazing property
- Elizabeth (10/5): Brill! - Check in was easy and just a 1 min walk away from the stay at the pub. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was brilliant and quiet. Breakfast and service was great! Altogether fantastic stay!
- Jessica (10/5): Spacious and a wonderful surprise! - Wow! Beginning at check in, the reception was so helpful and patient with me. You check in at the Black Boy Inn which is about 50 steps away. I kept returning back to reception because I thought my key wasn’t working. Finally, they were able to explain to me that I was staying in the townhouse next door to the for I was trying…which I wasn’t expecting! For the price, when I booked this, I thought I was getting a “normal Hotel room”. But in fact, it was a 3 story, 2-bedroom with full kitchen, living room, dining room! Way more than I needed as a solo traveler, but I lived like a queen for 3 days…for a very low price! This town house is excellent for families, couples, or solo travelers who want to live like royalty. And just about an block from the castle and the ocean. Absolutely will rebook the next time I am in town!
- Jonathan (10/5): Brilliant stay - We stayedin one of the Town House Appartments. Really clean. Veey comfy. Bathroom great as too was the kitchenette.
The bar at the Inn was good. Great choice of beers..if that's your thing. Great service.
Would definitely stay here again.
- Zygmunt (10/5): Excellent - Excellent location, comfortable and clean. Good value for money.
- Alice (10/5): - Location is great. Breakfast at the Black Boy Inn is very good. Will be better even if the window and walls can be sound proof. The pub cross the road gets busy sometimes. And there is sound of engine all day and night humming sound heard, esp in the room facing high street.
- Carole (8/5): - Our room at the top of the building was spacious, well-lit, clean, attractive, and offered a partial view of the castle (pretty at night). The large bed was very comfortable. The heated towel rack in the bathroom was excellent. We appreciated being able to open a window to get fresh air.
For the first few days of our stay we were only able to get luke warm water in the bathroom. However, as soon as we reported the problem it was fixed immediately. The only other issue we had (a small one) was with replenishing tea and coffee supplies: we didn't request house-keeping per se but would have appreciated daily replenishing of those supplies.
- Michael (6/5): - Very thin wall so could hear the loud people in the room next door for most of the night. Air conditioning didn't work and the room was way too hot to be comfortable.
- Paul (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful
- MATTHEW (8/5): - Our room was nice but if you're staying on a weekend it will be noisy as there is a dance club and bar outside the room. We left the TV on to drown out the noise when we slept.
Terrible parking situation. I would recommend sending a message to guests before their stay asking them to stop into the hotel before parking to try to obtain a parking pass. I paid for parking because the hotel didn't get back to me in a timely manner when I asked if they had any passes left and what time I should arrive in order to obtain one. I was never offered a free breakfast or anything to compensate me for the parking even though I asked.
- Donna (10/5): - It is a lovely converted property with spacious rooms with good facilities including it's own kitchen area. Our bathroom was lovely, fresh, modern and clean. Nice very large comfortable bed and a large bedroom with plenty of space. Bit of noise from outside but with secondary glazing it's soon gone! The staff for check-in at The Black Boy were great and with the free parking offered on the carpark at the harbour just a short walk away it was perfect.
- Dan (10/5): Atmosphere plus ➕️ - The pub was amazing. Met some great locals and had a super evening
Room was large with a small kitchen and renovated bathroom.
Overall was great.
If you are an early sleeper there was a bit of pub noise from across the street...but wasnt an issue for us
- Hilary (10/5): - Good room, great having kitchen attached.
Room was very warm which was bit of a challenge as air con seemed a bit temperamental
Who'd have thought we needed it in Britain this year !! Otherwise excellent. Would stay again
Room tastefully furnished to suit older property and be in keeping which was nice
- Jamie (10/5): - Quiet and wonderfully kept property with plenty of sights to see and good restaurants nearby
- Samantha (10/5): - Very nice staff and the rooms and food were lovely!
- Charles (8/5): - Room was great, except both the beds and the pillows are hard and uncomfortable. Also, the check in process at a different hotel was not well explained and very confusing. Breakfast and service were superb, however.
- Chandrashekhar (10/5): Best in North Wales - Very friendly staff and overall very convenient
- John (10/5): - A spacious room, but as we were in what was designed to enable disable access the low level wash basin area was a bit difficult, but not too much of a problem.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Everything was very clean and tidy. Confortable beds. Large TV. The fully equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher, was a pleasant surprise. The pub across the road was a bit noisy until about 11pm
- Keith John (10/5): Ty Dre townhouse 18th & 19th July - Food was lovely in Black Boy Inn and the townhouse was perfect for 2 nights. Car parking is an issue so be prepared to walk but Caernarfon is quite compact.
- Stuart (8/5): - The room was really nice and very clean. Staff were all supper friendly and helpful.
- Frank (10/5): - Fabulous service and great rooms. Highly recommend 😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyed our Stay - Really enjoyed our stay even though we had to climb stairs to the fourth floor.. This was one of the best rooms we have stayed in. The room was done out to a very good spec and couldn't ask for more. The only downside was hearing the seagulls at night down by the river as sounds travel when you are higher up.
- beverly (10/5): - Steep staircases. Parking is difficult. Room was upgraded- spotlessly clean, comfortable.
- Paul (10/5): - Terrific location.
Rooms are modern and clean.
Very happy.
Parking away from property, but it’s ok..
- Alan (10/5): Great stay near the castle - Spacious room, comfortable. Inside the walls of the old city. Short walk to the castle and lots of restaurants and pubs. Friendly, helpful staff. We had a great time here!
- Christina (10/5): An absolute gem. - Our room was ready early which made a big difference after a long day. We were in a twin room on the ground floor and even though it was busy outside we were not impacted by noise and had a great nights sleep.
The beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bathroom were lovely. The overall level of comfort was spot on.
Breakfast was fantastic with a selection of toast, cereal, jams, fruit, tea and coffee. We were delighted to find that they have also recently started offering a vegan cooked breakfast. It was lovely.
All the staff we interacted with were great.
The location is perfect for the castle and walking around the town/pubs/restaurants.
- Pooja (8/5): - Everything was good apart from bathroom as we get disabled bathroom which we not requested. Toilet and sink were too low.
- Marc (10/5): - Brilliant stay, lovely property a diamond find
- Robert (10/5): Good for couples - Very good accommodation stayed previously. Good at the black-boy is excellent
- Marshall (10/5): Great place and great location - Room was excellent value for money with a good breakfast in the morning. Very clean and comfortable.
- Cathy (10/5): - The staff were tremendous! Very helpful and friendly, lovely big room and terrific food at the Black Boy Inn.
- Tom (10/5): - Very good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - lovely location and lovely property for the price.
check in at the black boy and parking in the castle car park. about a 2 and 5 min walk away respectively.
Good breakfast too.
- Norman (10/5): - Lovely hotel and plenty to do
- Michael (10/5): Caernarfon short break - Booked Queen rooms and they where excellent. Very spacious and comfortable. They are well located near the castle and harbour.
The spacious bathroom is big but the shower door for a bit narrow for a larger person.
There was also the added bonus a small kitchen.
Cleanliness was excellent. I would recommend this place to stay.
- Janet (10/5): Caernarfon Jewel - Great find in Caernarfon beautiful room
Amazing bathroom and really friendly staff
I will definitely be back
- Wendy (8/5): Good hotel but could be better - Stayed for 5 nights. Room was lovely. Very clean. Nice touches with the complimentary eye masks and earplugs (noisy seagulls). Disappointed that we only got continental breakfast not cooked breakfast as advertised as it was not very good. We only had this given on arrival and although we could have asked for it, we would not have eaten it. No replenishment of toiletries, loo rolls, tea etc or towels unless we asked which were either forgotten or really quick to arrive. Having said this, we appreciate it is early days in re opening but a bit more attention to detail would have made the break more pleasant. Food at the pub in the evening, although limited, was very nice. Get there early as it gets busy. Overall it was a nice break. We would stay here again as the location is great but we’ll wait until things return to a more normal situation.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - We spent 3 nights at the hotel, the staff kindly offered us another room as ours was very noisy.
However the breakfast was very disappointing for a 4 star hotel, you are given a box with an orange juice, bread (not fresh), yogurt, cereal biscuits, croissant. I thought that it was extremely disappointing as the terrasse was open and we could still have had it on the terrasse.
Other point, for 4 nights no service came to clean the room, fill in the coffee, milk, shower gel etc...
Overall the location is good if you plan to climb snowdonia but for a 4 star hotel the service it was disappointing.
- Alexander (10/5): Second visit this year - We always enjoy staying in this hotel. It must be our fourth time now. Any issues we had were always quickly and satisfactorily resolved by the pleasant member of staff on reception.
- Lara (10/5): - A beautiful building in a beautiful part of the UK. This is what good quality service looks like!
Exceptional staff, fantastic food, nice big room with big comfy bed and large bathroom.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service from the staff in the Black Boy.
Room was big, clean, warm and safe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location...good buzz in the evening..great choice of ales and friendly staff.
- Delyth (8/5): Pleasant stay - The room was much bigger and more comfortable than we had anticipated! It was quiet enough and in a good location, only a few yards round the corner from the main Inn. We also had dinner in the evening which was pleasant enough, if not maybe overpriced for what it was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was surprised by the wonderful breakfast. This is part of the Black Boy Inn and we were in the town houses. There was a magnificent bathroom with both shower and full tub. But I couldn't find the kitchenette or refrigerator to put food in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s was a lovely room, we got upgraded to a suit which had excellent facilities. The pub of which it was attached was lovely quirky building
- Daniel (8/5): Good option - Nice place - modern and quiet. reception and breakfast are in a building around the corner.
- CME (10/5): - Loved our room (we did have to do stairs, which were fine). The bed was extremely comfortable; the bathroom newly remodeled. The chairs and refreshments in the room were welcome. This place is part of the Black Boy Inn, and just around the corner. The Black Boy Inn (and associated hotel Ty Dre Town House) is extremely well run. The restaurant menu had plenty of selection and the food was delicious; the atmosphere of the restaurant and pubs are wonderfully medieval (the building is ~ 500 years old). This place was the very best place I have ever stayed in terms of a quality, experience, atmosphere and value for money. I wold guess that during high tourist season, you would need to reserve room and table well ahead of your stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great friendly service. Wonderful historic place to stay in beautiful part of Wales
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was ideal for a disabled person. Liked all the extras eg toaster, microwave, iron, kettle. Could have done with extra drawers but wardrobe adequate.
- Dennis (10/5): - We were given a disabled room on the bottom floor so that we did not have to haul our bags up the stairs with sore knees. The room was great with a small kitchen.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully appointed and very comfortable, my 'suite' also included a well kitted out kitchen which was qa brilliant asset.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, quiet and very well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite spacious and comfortable. Not too hot or cold and ceetainly very good value for money. One small issue - there was no bath but a perfectly good shower. There was a hairdryer, iron, etc and they provided more than one type of teabag - earl grey included!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place to stay but do be aware that there are 3 flights of stairs to the top level (where we were). Staff are very nice - although we only saw reception and breakfast staff. Rooms clean. Wifi good. Only downside (for me anyway) - the bed and the pillows are extremely firm (far too hard for me). Some people will not mind this but for me it was not very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful room. Very spacious and great TV in the room. The bathroom was fantastic lovely bathtub and shower. The bed was very comfortable and the access was easy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The accommodation was great, bed was so comfortable. Room was really big with a small kitchen as well. Food at the Black Boy Inn was expensive for what it was
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent facilities, I'm a wheelchair user and there is plenty of space in the accessible room. The front door is a little tricky but manageable with two people.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Room at the top - Room 79 at the top of the house had a kitchen well equipped with electrical goods but not many plates, cups or glasses. We only made drinks anyway and enjoyed an excellent breakfast at the Black Boy Inn. There was also a king size bed, a large clean bathroom and a sitting area with large flat screen tv. Definitely the best value accommodation we’ve had in Caernarfon. View of the castle too and parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Immaculate inside. Lovely bathroom bedroom and kitchen. Good location
- Antonella (8/5): - Great location, nice and helpful staff and a fab breakfast
- john (10/5): Top Caernarfon stay - My wife and I had a midweek break and really landed on our feet with this place the suite was immaculate very clean great facilities and a great location right in the middle of everything staff were fantastic nothing was to much for them only con was the heat but as there was a fan in the room all was good cant recommend this place enough breakfast amazing five star
- R (10/5): Oh so relaxing - We loved our stay here and would give it 10 out of 10 for everything.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing - Fantastical
- Martin (10/5): Ardderchog! - Lovely staff, great location and excellent food.
- Andrew (8/5): Great location and Staff - All very good small issue with the door key, but sorted very quickly. Great location , very good breakfast, the Black boy inn which runs Ty Dre Town House, is a great place for food and Drink with loads of character.
- Nicola (10/5): Superb - Excellent great location and place to stay
- ROGER (10/5): Visit to West Highland Railway - We had a very enjoyable few days at the TyDre Town House. We had our meals at the Black Boy Hotel, they were excellent. We went to Caernarfon to go on the Welsh Highland Railway and the location of the hotel was very handy. We had a free pass to the Slate Quarry car park which was very useful. As senior citizens we would have liked a hand rail in the shower and my wife would have liked some simple instructions for the shower. We would recommend this Hotel.
- Jennifer (4/5): Disappointing - The units are adequate. However, we believed we were staying in a space connected to the pub. In reality, it was a block away. Thus, the atmosphere (and convenience of a pint and morning breakfast) was different than we anticipated. Our unit was on ground level which means all the noise and smells from the street came into the unit. The bathroom had no ventilation so it was musty smelling when we arrived and, if we didn't open the windows, it would develop a musty smell after every shower. Thus, we had the windows open for periods each day which made the sounds and smells even worse. There is a pub across the street which meant there was a lot of noise at night. Further, the parking was frustrating and not really "free." When we arrived, we were told we'd have to come to the front desk each day to get our daily parking pass as they do not have enough passes for every unit. It seems they have a couple different options for parking. However, most parking passes are for a lot that is only open certain hours. Thus, if you are returning after 4:00, you can't get into the lot anyway. Another lot is only free after certain hours so, if you arrive back to the hotel early, you pay. We ended up planning our days around the parking situation. Overall, cleanliness was adequate. However, one day, we left dirty dishes on the sink ledge. When we returned that night, the dishes had been placed back in the cabinet but they didn't clean them before doing so.
- Owen (10/5): Great place for a short stay. - Fantastic place to stay, loads of character, amazing food, excellent position in the town. Part of the Black Boy Inn, where reception and restaurant is located.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay at Ty Dre, located just round the corner from The Black Boy the accommodation was clean and well furnished with a very comfortable bed and roomy bathroom. The breakfast taken at the Inn was yummy and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location and rooms very good
Food excellent and staff friendly
Would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting North Wales
- Michael (10/5): Interesting stay inside city walls - An old building close to the castle. Reception and excellent meals in the nearby pub, breakfast is freshly cooked and includes smoked fish option. A bit difficult to get heavy suitcases up the stairs and through several doors. Paid parking available but it is a small park and difficult to access, can drop bags off in the street outside the door if there are two of you. Free overnight parking a few yards outside city walls is a better option. Perfect location and worth the effort compared to more modern hotels further away
- david (8/5): Good location - Room fine but a bit impersonal - managed by a local pub in the next street. Good breakfast at the pub. Good central location.
- Kevin (10/5): Good choice - Stayed in June 19. Excellent place to stay and well priced. If you don't mind parking away from the hotel and walking outside around the corner to the Black Boy Inn for the included breakfast that I can only describe as a quality breakfast well cooked I'd highly recommend. Had dinner there as well both nights and again good quality food well cooked. Cask Ales as well and friendly Welsh speaking staff. I'll definitely use again. Room was comfy and well appointed with a kitchenette.
- Marjorie (8/5): - Very good,bath room lovely
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great. Staff was very friendly and the room was big
- Thomas (10/5): Book early! - We always stay at the Black Boy when in Caernarfon and will continue to do so. Best value for the money!
- Jack (10/5): - 5/5 all around (especially the breakfast!)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a lovely time here, it’s a small village in the castle grounds but had a lovely time.
- Verified traveler (4/5): disappointing.... - no conveniences in this hotel so had to book in & eat in the sister pub/hotel around the corner in a different street, though the food was good...
but.....!!!
exceptionally hard uncomfortable bed so little sleep was had! no lifts so 3 flights of stairs to climb, noisy pub opposite, room needed a deep clean, no parking or drop off point so had to use a public car park & trundle cases along several streets..
- Andrew (10/5): Pleasant stay. Would book again. - A nice place to stay. Bed a little firm for my liking and it was a bit warm at night. Not much of a through draft and seagulls were noisy with windows open. But I got enough sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely big rooms - very welcoming staff - I'll definitely be back
