It isn’t always about the issues that you have but how the staff handles the issues when you do, and the staff did great. Motel is reasonably priced for what it is. Thank you Staff at Gene’s!

• Sean (6/5): Eh. - Not very clean. The towels had black line stains, the sink was stained, the pull curtain was not fully connected and left a gap when closed. The wall had a very poorly patched hole that was not flush with the wall. The a/c worked well.
• Theodora (8/5): Needs a little updating but decent - It was the cheapest place around in a decent nj location. Check in was very smooth. 2nd story no elevator. Easy parking, there was lots available...not sure if I was charged for it. Kind of dismal looking but you get what you pay for. There was a good sized mini fridge. There were LOTS of good movie channels. It was convenient to many convenient stores but none walkable. The shower bathtub had a long hair on it and the bathroom needed a lot of holes fixed BUT the shower worked perfectly...easy to use and could control the temperature perfectly. You had to go to the front desk to get ice which is not in the same building but not far at all. I would consider staying here agian.

• Debra (4/5): - Well aside from the cigarette burn on the quilt the almost depleted toilet tissue with the nerve to be fold ever so sweetly. On the medal steps that are slippery as ice but you get what you pay for. So we wanted to know the late checkout policy. I had to use my phone, because when I went to us the hotel phone. It literally had no cords attached. Like I said u get what u paid for. Other than that we had a great. The bed work and was fully utilized they ENTIRE stay. Again u get what u pay for.. 😂

Changed our room, suppose to be originally a king, it looked to be a full, really small room,Sheets were dirty, full of hair, gummy on floor, the mirror was cloudy and dirty, you could write on it, the furniture was dusty, the bathroom floor was dirty. It was horrible. They refunded our money without any arguments.

The man at the desk could not explain the document and I didn't have an option to omit from those services. Made me very uncomfortable so we left without staying. Do not recommend.

Pedí que me cambien de habitación ya que me brotó, y teniendo disponibles me dijo que no, me dio un desodorante de los quebusaba la abuela para fijarse el pelo con un olor más ediondo aún. Y su respuesta fue.. prende el aire. La puerta del baño no cerraba. Había dos jabones usados más infinidad de pelos en la “bañera” La alfombra brotaba de lo mugrienta Con un color dudoso El acolchado todo quemado. En fin nunca dormí peor en mi vida Hubiera estado mejor arriba del auto. Más limpio seguro.
• Joanne (2/5): - The carpet is so dirty I don’t even know what color it’s supposed to be and it smells so bad in the room I had to hold my breath until I put up air fresheners I left my shea butter and they threw it out plus I made reservations for the weekend because they were cheaper I did it throughout Expedia and they didn’t honor it I had to find another hotel

• Matthew (6/5): Gene’s Motel - So we made a reservation to this place. Would recommend not going there at all. Front clerk was very rude and did not try to help us at all. Instead he trued to charge us for two rooms and said we would have zero chance of staying somewhere else. We went down the block and went to the motel 6. Would recommend that place any day of the week over this motel. Get better service. Not hard.

Everything was all paid and they told me that they canceled it because they had been exposed to Covid. They never told Expedia and they never told me. And they were rude to me about it to begin with. When I asked them why they canceled my reservation, the guy started yelling at me. I didn’t do anything, I showed up to check in. What a horrible place!

When I called from my phone they said they would be right over to take care of it but never came. Other rooms were having the same problem. I could hear multiple alarms for about an hour.

The check in clerk expected me to help assist them in moving the broken refrigerator out and bring in a new one. Not happening. After many angry demands of a new room or refund they reluctantly gave us a different room were everything worked but not the cleanest. Plenty of power outlets and lighting are the only positive things I can say.

• Jane (8/5): - I spent one night at Gene’s. I didn’t know what to expect because I couldn’t find reviews online. The price seemed decent for a 2bd room, and I didn’t expect much but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I stayed in room 210. It was a large room with 2 queen size beds and lots of space. Fridge and microwave were functional. AC as well. Bed was comfortable, linens were clean. Towels are small though; that and the one ply toilet paper are my only negative points. But everything was clean and in order. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. One of the things that’s super useful is the plus outlet on the desk; there’s a regular outlet, a European outlet and 2 USB ports. Overall a great pick. It’s close to everything, there’s parking, WiFi doesn’t reach the back of the room but I didn’t spend a lot of time on-site. It’s not a 5 star but it’s a good spot and if I have to be in South’s Jersey again, I’ll definitely return.

I had booked and paid for 2 nights but after the first night I found another place to stay and didn't even try to get my money back because I know from experience that it is impossible to get a refund from Expedia.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Very Disappointing - Genes Motel is in need of some updating. The walls and door need to be painted. The room was a non-smoking room, but reeked of smoke. The comforter was full of cigarette burns. The bathroom sink drained slowly. The room was not as clean as it should have been. The one good thing that I can say about the motel is that it is conveniently located...close to lots of restaurants and shopping.

It's inexpensive so there is no frills but it's clean, quiet, and the people who work (own it?) there are sweet. Plus it's right by a dunken donuts and a little dinner and pizzeria. A walmart is only about a 5 minute drive away too.

I had to reserve a smoking room since that was all available on the website. When I arrived I asked if they had a non-smoking room available. They said they could have one if I could wait 15 minutes, I could and they did. Very nice guy at the desk.

When I book a discount room I expect things like crappy WiFi and no breakfast but this place is just horrible.

Even there wasn't hair dryer. Heater was like a antique. It wasn't working well. And also there was too big hole under the door for cold air and insects.I killed a huge spider. you should pay 10 or 20 more dollars and stay good place.
• Verified traveler (8/5): It was okay - It isn't as bad as it looks on the outside. The room was newly remodeled and fairly clean (except the gross shower head). However, there was no cleaning done during our two night stay nor did we get fresh towels so that was a major negative for me.
• ponygrrl84 (2/5): Filthy - Staff was very nice, I will say that, however, the room itself was disgusting. We've stayed at places far cheaper that were way cleaner and nicer inside. This was a last minute reservation due to unforeseen circumstances so we were just in need of a bed/no frills, but it was way overpriced for the condition of the place. The steps leading up to our floor were totally obstructed by snow and ice that we had to climb over, the room has probably never been vacuumed, bedspread covered in cigarette burns, headboard covered in use your imagination, toilet seat broken off base, "mystery" stains - you get the picture. Not the safest feeling establishment. Couldn't wait to shower (somewhere else) the next day lol
