Guest Reviews
- Peter (7/5): An out of town location, ideal for business travel, would rebook when next in the area. - the site was ideal for my requirements, a little off the main road, but near enough to connect onto the motorway network. Staff were very friendly. nothing really to dislike, rooms looked a little tired with chips on the paintwork, but this did not effect the service given.

- Debbie (10/5): Excellent - Location and amazingly helpful staff
- Lynda (10/5): A great stay in a lovely location - Location was beautiful Nothing
- karsten (9/5): -
- Ella (6/5): - We love staying here as it’s in a great location. Always clean. Doors slamming at 2am during our recent stay on both nights and someone banging on the door. Hardly slept either night. The rooms can get really warm even with the windows open.
- Susan (1/5): Very disappointed with hotel for what it cost. The hotel needs to sort out the team on reception unbelievably rude and t - Liked the location Very dated the paint was peeling off the walls and the carpets were very badly stained. The reception staff was very rude and ignorant I’ve honestly never stayed in a hotel this bad,

- Drydon (5/5): Reasonable for money but not inviting. - Breakfast was ok. Dining room very old fashioned Place needs refurbishment. Has old style motel feel about it, brown furniture and patterned carpets . Reception area uninviting.
- Lesley (9/5): Pleasant and friendly hotel - The staff and the view from the hotel.
- John (10/5): Good value for money stay - Good location, good sized room and facilities, very good breakfast
- John (6/5): Fine apart from breakfast - nothing really We arrived in the breakfast room at 8.00am which was the stated start time. We were the only ones in the breakfast room. We were informed that the chef had not arrived but would be there in 5 mins. We ordered our hot breakfast of omlette. We waited 35 mins but then had to leave as we had an important engagement. As a result we did not receive our breakfast.
- Suzanne (10/5): A comfortable space with friendly staff - Friendly staff and lovely room, not to mention the amazing view and the great breakfast
- Paine (7/5): - Its view
- Joanne (9/5): Great value for money - Great out of town location, comfy bed, great views Room was a bit hot, staff weren’t very friendly. Would stay again
- Neil (6/5): - In honesty, not a lot Room was cold, decor and facilities were very basic, food was poor, there was no atmosphere
- Brian Hill Yavoy (10/5): LOVE THIS PLACE -
- Robin (6/5): -
- Berry (1/5): - The views, location Nothing
- Claire (9/5): -
- Kelly (5/5): Passable but wouldn't stay again - The views and nearby area to walk around Staff doing everything from reception to bar so waited ages for somebody to come serve us for a drink even though pressed bell 3 times.
- Hugh (8/5): We enjoyed the stay and will stay again when we next visit the area - Location, views cleanliness warmth. Breakfasts. Bed comfortable No seats in the bedroom except a pouffe stool. Bed relatively narrow.
- Cheryl (5/5): Good value. Don’t rely on food being available at the advertised times. - Value for money. Clean. Stunning location I arrived hungry having walked with a heavy pack in the Pennines for two days. The friendly receptionist explained that although there was a function on (21st birthday party) that food was available to order until 8.30pm. Great, quick shower then went to order in the bar at 8.09pm. The barmaid said they had stopped serving food at 8pm as although they usually served until 8.30pm, the manager had just informed them ten minutes earlier. I was not happy !!! I would have come straight in without showering had I known. I explained I’d hiked 13 miles with heavy pack and was desperate to eat. There was no compassion. They said they’d only just been informed themselves. The receptionist was apologetic and had also only just been informed. Suggested a pizza delivery. The pizza place was busy Saturday night. The hotel was remote but eventually I got the delivery, 3 phone calls later to chase, it arrived at 9.45pm. I felt the hotel had badly let me down and surely could have offered me a sandwich or something. It ruined the stay for me and what should have been a reward at the end of two long days of hiking.
- Brindley (9/5): -
- Rebecca (5/5): - Clean good location good breakfast. Reception Staff not very helpful. Unable to eat at hotel due to a function which was noisy in the evening with people talking outside. Unnecessary extra deposit taken.
- David (8/5): Comfortable and Good Value - Staff excellent, amazing location - great if you run / walk. Hotel is quite dated but reflected in the price.
- AndreaMolnar (9/5): Great location, comfortable bed, great breakfast - Location, bed, warmth, breakfast, view. I think they were understaffed. We had to wait long time each time when we wanted to order in the bar. And we missed the usual chatty, welcoming communication from the staff. They were ok and helpful, but not thrilled to have guests.
- Lynda (7/5): -
- Jas (4/5): Disappointing - Good location Was woken up at 7am with builders outside who were actually working right outside our bedroom and had puts scaffolding up and our curtain was open and they were peering in 🤦♂️
- William (7/5): -
- Rachel (8/5): Short stop from the airport - We arrived very late at night, staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and room was very nice. Only comment to make on our short stay was that we werent pre warned about the card machine not working but the staff were lovely about the situation and there wasnt enough coffee, milk and sugar in the room but thats down to preference ( we like a brew before bed and in the morning).
- Laura (9/5): - Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Kadie (7/5): We enjoyed it overall - The location The staff were a bit grumpy and not helpful.
- chauncy (5/5): Average needs updating - Lovely views / burger and chips ok Had down stairs room, cars kept driving up and down the car park ( not hotel guests) using the car park/ helipad as a viewing point to the surrounding area.
Rooms /venue are dated
- Giedre (9/5): Great value for money, not new but immaculately clean and very comfortable!! - The room was immaculately clean, warm, beds comfortable and towels luxury fluffy :). It is not a newly refurbished hotel, so if you keep your expectations right you will be pleased, because in our view value for money was great. We were worried because some reviews said not clean and cold or other not the most positive comparisons, that's not a case at all! not brand new, but definitely very clean and comfortable.
Also, there is a lovely walk right outside of hotel to the village with breathtaking views, so if you have time and sitting in the room is not your thing - the walk is highly recommended. There wasn't anything we particularly disliked. Pub is not exactly full of character, but nothing wrong with it either if you need quick dinner.
- Heather (7/5): - convenient location for visiting relatives. It’s Quiet. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean.
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Laura (5/5): - The breakfast was nice, and the staff at breakfast was lovely. It was a lovely location. The bath filled up really fast and there was really hot water which was great. The decor was drab and quite depressing in the rooms and quite outdated. The bar staff wasn't particularly welcoming or friendly. The curtains were not very effective, blinds would have been better to stop light getting in as the hotel is flood lit at night. The bed side lights were really bright, not warm or cosy.
- John (10/5): - Brilliant view nice place Nothing to dislike
- Monica (6/5): Pleasant hotel but ant infestation in bar - The views were amazing! The room was clean and quiet and the breakfast was good. There is an ANT infestation in the bar, there were ants absolutely everywhere, on the bar, on the tables, on the chairs, on the long saddle and all over the skirting boards and wood. Definitely needs sorting as really put me off, me and my husband were itchy as hell.
- Kerrie (10/5): -
- Hayley (8/5): -
- Elaine (10/5): - This is a lovely hotel in a quiet location, it is a clean, comfortable and the staff are all friendly. Breakfast was buffet style lots of choice it tasted lovely.
Definitely a place to stay. 5 mins from the little village which has a lovely pub with excellent food. I really cant say there was anything we disliked.
- johnbS5005XR (2/5): Do not stay! - The hotel interior particularly bedrooms looks nothing like the photos. The hotel is dark, gloomy, cold and staff miserable. Food ok but limited choice.
Room severely dated with carpet stains/paint peeling/worn out dated furniture/bathroom vent not working hence swollen woodwork.
- Tracey (7/5): It suited me well for value and location. - Location, cleanliness and breakfast. Staff were polite and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean. And the cooked breakfast was really very good. Made to order, hot with some of the best scrambled egg I’ve had in a long while. The buffet part was very simple but adequate.
I think for a convenient one or two night stop over where you just need a clean bed and a good hot full breakfast this hotel is ideal. Tired and dated rooms; whilst clean, with fresh nicely made bed, and lots of piping hot water in the morning for a shower, and good supplies like iron, hairdryer, tea and coffee, the room was scuffed stained and marked in terms of furniture and walls, etc. It felt like it would’ve once been a very smart impressive room in its day. It just needs a little bit of attention on the decor side to bring it back to life. Then they could charge more for the room I would think. So I in that sense the price was very fair for the standard of room.
Evening meal, other meals served looked really quite tasty. I wished I’d gone for the burger but I avoid bread so I had scampi & chips, but most of the chips were really grey, I couldn’t eat them.
- Hynek (9/5): -
- Dale (8/5): - Quiet and secluded but easy to access
- John (10/5): - Excellent value, comfortable bed and comfy pillows, friendly staff and great heating in the bedroom and bedroom. Definitely would return here.
- Ian (5/5): - Quiet location. The service wasn't very good. I suppose being in such a remote location hard to get staff.
- Alice (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): - The hotel was lovely the veiws from the car park were outstanding. Room very clean and had everything we needed for an over night stay. Breakfast was great lots of choice and very good quality. Evening meal was very poor ... food was tasteless and very over cooked couldnt eat any of mine, such a shame because the next morning it was the complete opposite the breakfast was beautiful.
- Akil (10/5): -
- Pamela (7/5): -
- wendysR1836FH (10/5): Excellent value three course meal - Had a lovely 3-course Sunday dinner for £18pp. Excellent value, service and food quality. Couldn’t fault it for the price.
- Paul (10/5): I would stay there again - Breakfast was excellent.
Do not have a main meal so cannot comment It looked a bit tired in room and some places.
- KEITH (10/5): -
- Sibtain (6/5): Was good but didnt like the fact the towel was dirty and had stains bearing in mind we stay here all the time and when w - Everything was perfect and fine we regularly stay here but wasnt happy when we checked the towels were dirty and had makeup stains on them Towels had make up stains
Waited in reception for over 20 mins ringing bell
- 925melanieb (4/5): COLD COLD COLD! - COLD COLD COLD! Radiator turned off when guest departs OK. Solution turn on wait 10 mins OK, - not here. Boiler off too, search parties needed to find help. Also faeces on shower wall
- Helen (7/5): -
- Gerard (10/5): - A lovely stay and great views
- Soraya (9/5): -
- Rebecca (9/5): Very well priced, spotlessly clean room - Great location, very clean, reasonably priced It was a shame that the bar did not capitalise on the gorgeous views, I think the restaurant did but we walked to the pub in the village for dinner which was totally worth it
- Steven (5/5): -
- Robbie (2/5): -
- G693JBhelenr (4/5): It’s ok - When you arrive you think it’s a prison, it’s dull, dreary and un inviting, BUT it is on the moors which is absolutely beautiful. On arrival the receptionist was not very welcoming, didn’t explain meal times, just sat in her chair. Massive car park.
THE ROOM well having worked in a Best Western Hotel I expected what our ‘inspectors’ would have expected, but it was dated, broken electrical sockets, flickering lamp with broken shade, carpet stained and toilet flushed if you were lucky. The room was hot which after coming in from a gale and raining was lovely for 5 mins, then we turned it off. Bathroom could have done with a blind at the window, but if someone wants to peer at my window then they need help!!!!! Beds and pillows lumpy, but I am fussy about my pillows lol.
FOOD - menu very nice with a good choice of foods, but not overly tasty, but we were tired/hungry. Breakfast was the best iv tasted in a long time, local produce I think and great scrambled egg. Well done.
Would I stay again? Actually yes, it’s views were stunning, though wet and windy, it’s great as a base camp if your out all day. Not far from Halifax where we had family.
- Makhan (6/5): Superb views. - Location The Bed
- Mark (6/5): - Had a timeless theme throughout the property, which gave it an olden style feel, felt cozy. The staff were all friendly. Breakfast was great value for money, and the food there was good too. Mattress on the bed wasn’t great as you could feel the springs which affected sleep. Plus the windows weren’t the best at keeping the sound of the wind out despite being closed.
- Stephen (10/5): - Food was excellent Nothing
- Stephen (4/5): -
- Paula (10/5): Everything was perfect - Comfortable bed
- PJW (4/5): Disappointed- didn't meet my booking expectations, almost felt embarrassed intruding on its privacy - Easy to find. Would have had good view from breakfast room had weather been better.
Has potential to be good hotel, probably was and perhaps it might be again, but definitely get the impression that has been struggling with occupancy and so forced to cut staff to bare minimum and pare back on other things, so disappointing guests- hardly the result wanted by anyone. When reception not staffed (usual), then fr there to be no response to call bell sounded several times over 20 min period unacceptable. Similarly arriving in breakfast one can help yourself to fruit juice and cereal, but to wait 15mins until someone appears when can ask for coffee and place a cooked order is very poor. Breakfast is pricey, yet there was no muesli or anything else healthy, even though the menu claimed fresh fruit and other items listed also seemed that reality fell short of impression given.
Same evening meal menu each night, even the "soup of the day" was the same 3 days running. Despite limited range, several items were "off" and sometimes only apparent after having ordered- final indignity was when on checkout I was told I had exceeded the meal allowance - strange when ordering off the "stay and dine menu"- seemed to be because I was being billed for the food ordered that they had been unable to serve as well as the replacement item!
- chris (4/5): -
- Guzanfar (8/5): -
- Angela (7/5): -
- Kalvin (1/5): Great view, none existant staff and mouldy room woth paint peeling - Just the view Mould in the room
- Dominic (6/5): Lack of communication - The room was warm. The view was outstanding. The food was good, although not particularly inventive. On out second morning we turned up for breakfast at 9 o clock to be told they had decided to finish breakfast early. They just hadn't told us. After I complained they did make me a bacon sandwich, but no offer of coffee and it was as though they were doing us a favour. We had paid for breakfast in our rate, so this was not really very fair. We were in the bar the night before, so they could have mentioned it. Poor customer service really, and not getting what we paid for as my daughter ended up having a slice of toast only.
- Oliver (4/5): Potentially Fantastic Location But Staff Seem Uninterested - The room was well decorated and the location of the hotel was amazing! Unfortunately the weather was pretty bad and the high winds and rain did not make being on top of a hill very nice. However if the weather was better we would have definitely explored some of the local hills! The staff seemed more interested on their personal conversation than the comfort of guests. When we arrived at 3pm (normal check in time) there was no one at at the reception desk and again 10 minutes later when we went to ask for the cot that had been promised to be provided, there was no one at the desk. On the second day staff were seen a couple of times having loud conversation at the reception desk (nothing against enjoying yourself while at work, but there are limits...) without acknowledging me or my wife as we passed. When loading the car the staff continued their conversation while glancing at my wife struggling with bags and a pram while I brought the car around.
The cot we were provided was either broken or difficult to assemble (We were short on time and at this point I'd lost patience with asking for help) and was stained. We ended up not using this and using our pram bassinet instead - not ideal. If we'd have known, we'd have brought our own travel cot.
While the furnishings in the room were quite nice and had a rustic appeal, the paint on the ceiling of the bathroom was peeling (I'm guessing due to high moisture and the extractor fan didn't appear to be working) and some of the fixings were damaged (tape on the bottom of the mirror)
Breakfast was passable but not for the £15 price tag.
- susan (9/5): We enjoyed our stay and will return - Lovely views. Homely atmosphere. Helpful staff Needs a bit of updating
- Chapman (5/5): -
- Israel (10/5): -
- Nigel (7/5): -
- Smith (9/5): Ok - Nice clean hotel No working to and didn’t seem interested at all when reported to front desk,WiFi very poor
- Malcolm (9/5): Well signposted directions. - Good breakfast but expensive. Room too warm.
- Johannes (9/5): -
- Rachel (9/5): - Great value for money. Quiet, comfortable. Nothing not to like. All good.
- ROMAN (6/5): Beautiful pennines - Great location and views Staff a bit miserable
Toilet window blowing a gale Room no 9
- Delight (10/5): -
- Nick (9/5): - Friendly staff, excellent food, comfy rooms Little bit dated decor
- Fiona (7/5): -
- Tussie (8/5): You can’t fault the value. - Charming. Quiet. Incredible value for money. Comfortable beds. Very little, although the bar menu was limited, and a little too ‘deep fried’
- Lorraine (8/5): Enjoyable. - Breakfast was OK, toaster poor had to put bread through 4 times to get it brown.
Good selection. No phone for reception or usb's in room. Not very good for 2026. Also no WiFi reception.
- Rob (9/5): - The location is lovely and we have revisited for that reason Even though the staff were not helpful found them to be a bit withdrawn when spoken to felt like it was an effort to help
- ChrisRichards (9/5): Recpommended - Very good breakfast - good room, comfortable bed
- Robert (7/5): -
- Amanda (8/5): - The room was spacious, Clean & warm.
The drapes blocked out the early morning light. The cups on the room are too small, mugs would be better.
