Guest Reviews
- Karynne (8/5): Covenient stopover between Cairns and Townsville - Good location on the highway at Cardwell. It was a convenient stopover on the trip back up from Airlie Beach. The room was a good size and had a jug, microwave and toaster. No remote for the TV, the air conditioner wasn't adjustable, no fan so stuffy, we had to ask for a towel for the second person, the decor was dated.
- Shravan (7/5): - Right on the highway Beds, shower and sketchy look
- Nevins (3/5): Staff rude facilities not open - Restaurant was not open as advertised Poor service and facilities closed not as advertised
- Leslie (8/5): Comfortable overnight stay - Quiet location
- Deb (4/5): - Ok for an overnight stay. Basic amenities. Pool was green. No coffee or milk. Bins hadn't been emptied.
- michael (2/5): Sorry to both you can i check in :( - A/C 1960 decor, Abrupt onsite night manager,
- Shauna (9/5): - Just nice people. Welcome comfortable stay
- Bonnie (5/5): - Location Cleanliness and run down
- Shenice Portelli- Di Pasquale (6/5): Interesting Stay - The staff were friendly, it was a shame that they had closed early. There wasn't enough information given for the Internet connection, restaurant and pool times. The staff were in a rush to leave which I thought was odd. The hotel room was nice and cozy. The neighbors were friendly and it was close to everything including the beach. I wasn't impressed with how the coffee cup wasn't clean. It was a shame that I didn't get to experience the restaurant and the pool area. The staff were polite and we felt welcomed to a point. The staff were in and out of the Bottle Mart quite a fair bit and I wasn't impressed.
- Chris (7/5): - No after hours check in details provided and no one taking calls from 6pm
- Larissa (8/5): -
- Emma (8/5): -
- Theresa (7/5): Great location and affordable. - Convenient and suited our purpose, very affordable.
- Audrey Goeytes (7/5): Great restored and felt calm - Everything The noise of the main street
But after moving to room 30
Excellent
Will have to book again
- Maree (8/5): - the pool was very nice
good that an outside bbq was available
- Morgan (9/5): -
- William (2/5): - The toaster, microwave were rusted. The TV screen was all pixilated so could not use the TV, no spare blankets so I had a cold night.
The bed was comfortable.
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Ross (6/5): good - clean and close to what we needed Price of our room.
- Jenny (2/5): - There was no hot water in the morning, and as soon as someone downstairs used it, there was no water at all.
The TV was unwatchable due to having white lines through the entire screen.
The freezer on the mini fridge was frozen solid and unusable.
After some disagreement, I had to prove that she had already taken the total payment from my account.
The wotif agreement stated that I had up until the 7th of August for free cancellation and that I was to pay on arrival.
She took the money on the 29th of July, a week early.
Sounds a bit dodgy to me.
- James (8/5): - Suitable motel
- Markus (9/5): -
- Alison (6/5): - Room very clean and beds comfortable. Would have liked a teaspoon at least ….. only had one spoon which was a desert spoon.
Good hot water 🚿 shower 👍
The toilet took several flushes to clear just one sheet of loo paper.
Some road noise early but quiet during night.
Beds were the wow comfy feature, great nights sleep.
- Gillian Elizabeth (8/5): - Bed was comfortable and
- Andrew (4/5): Disappointing -
- Mjoe (7/5): Good -
- Gary (4/5): as above - I have already replied to this question and have forwarded it on to the booking people as above
- Nikol (7/5): Good -
- Lyn (4/5): Cardwell - Friendly staff member who checked us in. Room was clean. TV didn't work, toilet had a leak onto bathroom floor so you had to wear shoes to use the bathroom. Big truck and train noise. Only had tea cups and plastic spoons in the room. So no bowls for cereal or knives to butter bread or plates to put your food on.
- Ron (6/5): - The property is was quite mature and unfortunately has been left to show this. Room was bigger than average, but the plumbing is very poor in the shower alcove, the water slow to run away, and without urgent maintenance this will become a major issue.
Cleaning staff appeared to lack leadership. Price was good given these faults.
- Wells (1/5): Bad - The place was filthy
- Jenny (8/5): - Good b
- Lefebvre (1/5): Bad - After a trial day as a housekeeper for this company, I noticed several serious hygiene concerns. The hotel does not systematically change bed sheets or bath towels unless they decide it’s necessary, which I find unacceptable for a paying guest. The cleaning standards are far below what I would expect — tasks are rushed, and the focus seems more on appearances than on genuine cleanliness. Additionally, some staff members responsible for cleaning showed behavior or conditions (such as substance abuse) that raise serious concerns about the quality of service provided. I sincerely hope guests will have their linens properly changed and enjoy a clean environment, as this is the minimum standard anyone should expect when paying for accommodation.
- Carmen (7/5): Good -
- Margaret (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alexander (6/5): - The name says ''at the beach''. It is actually 350 metres to the beach and you have to cross the very busy and noisy Bruce Highway on the way.
The ''restaurant'' happened to be closed both nights that we were there(a weekend') and all that was on offer was a 4-item meagre take away. Great to have that supermarket across the road though.
The first room we were given faced straight across the huge concrete forecourt and into the headlights of the vehicles coming to the liquor driving. We were charged an extra $60 for asking for a room change.
- Corey (8/5): Very good -
- Glen (7/5): Good -
- Josephine (7/5): Good -
- Ted (4/5): - It was fortunate because it was not raining. If it was bad weather, no I don't want to think about it. Kitchen was not for multi weather ready. Most of kitchen facility was discusting. There was no lights above sink too. We supposed to stay 2 nights however we left ther on the 2nd day. Never go back. Paid cheap, simply got cheap stuff. ha ha ha.
- Hansson (2/5): Very poor - Good location #28 Queen
Cockroaches in the bedroom
Dead bugs in the bathroom.
Light switch above bed where pillows rest.
I paid with Pay Pal for the room but got charged again at reception. 2 times for 1 bug infested room.
- Sarah-jane (1/5): I will not return to this establishment or recommend it to others. - I choose the location of the property as I was driving home from Townsville to Cairns. However, next time I will choose one of the other establishments off the highway. I felt unsafe and unwelcome. I arranged to check in after hours and called to advise my arrival. I was told to call upon arriving, which I did and was able to check into my room; my room door was unlocked and the key was left on a bench inside.
While I was in bed, I heard someone trying to open my door. I called out but got no answer. At 11:30pm, I was woken up to someone trying to open my door again and rustling keys. I was told I did not have a booking and had not paid, even though I had received a confirmation and showed a record of payment. I was asked to go to the office to confirm and refused, being that I was in my pyjamas, had been woken up, and it was cold outside. I remained in my room while everything was confirmed.
I had a restless nights sleep and woke up at 3:30am. I decided to leave, even though I booked for two nights.
I have received no response to my message explaining this discomfort, except for an automated message asking for feedback. Hence this review.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Good but needs a bit of a deep clean - Great location Check in process for late comers was a bit odd .
- Kieran (4/5): Disappointed that it was at a price and description that did not meet our expectations. - Bed was comfortable Bathroom unkept, car park very tight, door to bathroom not lockable, description didn’t fit the place.
- Garth (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Larissa (4/5): Very dissatisfied - Convenient location Was dirty, no towels provided linen was dirty and floor not clean. Hard mattress no extra pillows and no winter blanket.
- Renae (5/5): Passable - Able to check in late Frog in toilet, dusty room, hard bed, road noise
- Desley (4/5): - The cleaning has a lot to be desired. The floor was very gritty under foot, but we were in the older units there.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Lea (7/5): Good - It was budget price and served us in transit. Good budget price for 1 night stay. Excellent fish and chip shop a couple of minutes drive up road 🙏 😋 overall it was worth it ♥ If you want peace and quiet 🙏 trucks very noisy with highway so close. We were exhausted so we slept but were woken before 6am by noisy trucks still on the road ! It was a pretty cold night and had a sheet on bed with one blanket in cupboard so still were abit cold...
- Deborah (6/5): Poor facilities - The bed was great and having Netflix was a bonus The only thing that was available to use was a kettle, 2 cups and one spoon. Really poor
- Anonymous (3/5): Poor - We had the cleaners walk into our room at 10.30 no knock either. in the morning when we weren’t supposed to be out until 11
- Phil (3/5): Poor -
- Sheree (5/5): Ok place to stay if necessary. - Easy to find on the highway opposite a little supermarket. Rooms are old and need revamping, cleanliness was slightly lacking in some areas such as the bathroom.
- Santanna (7/5): Affordable, great location, comfy, nice staff. - Clean, comfy, nice staff, good location, decent price. No plates or cutlery.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Sara (8/5): Very good -
- Sukhjiwan (7/5): Good -
- Jemma (7/5): Good - I liked the check in process was fast There was black mould around the windows and mould on the blankets in the cupboard. There was only 1 cup for tea and coffee and no spoon. Other than that it was ok it was a bit noisy outside our room until late with people talking
- Robert (8/5): Good motel for a one night stay over. - Functional clean and tidy There were cigarette burn stains on the ledge of the bathroom window. Indicating to me a lack of pride in presentation
- Janis (8/5): We had a very good sleep. - Very comfortable beds and pillows. Would prefer ceiling fans instead of having to use air conditioner. Some of the coffee sachets were hard and unusable.
- Molly (10/5): - Great service enjoyed my stay at Cardwell
- JOHN (8/5): Pet friendly Motel - it was great for what it was.. nothing special , just your typical older motel.
Loved the fact its pet friendly.
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Car park at door very clean and spacious No ceiling fans. Aircon cold
- Molly (6/5): - It was ok but not super clean. Important areas like toilets shower sink sheets etc all perfectly fine but there was a lot of dust under the bed. Nobody there to greet us. Door ( room 21) did not lock. Parking for this room was not clear. Pool nice but lots of leaves in it
- Rhett (6/5): - Just an average place to stay. will probably look elsewhere for next time.
- Cathy (4/5): Basic, clean and close to where we needed to be. - Nice girl in the shop, but they hadn't communicated the room to her. Our room was unmade but she found us another which was great. Very basic, expected a bit more for the price.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Tash (5/5): Passable - The book in your room started mini bar items and when I asked about it and took out of my book and said they didn't do bottle of wine
Than when we went in for dinner I got the menu there only one menu to the hole eating area and It said bottle of wine $30 I asked about the bottle he said no we don't have that anymore I asked about 3 different means no we don't have that I was thinking wtf do u have
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juanita J (10/5): - What a little treasure?!? Clean, pleasant, affordable, helpful and convenient are great adjectives for our stay.
Will be better once pool area is fully functioning.
Glad we chose this venue and are already planning to return.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (4/5): - Too many cockroaches
- Sonya (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (8/5): Family holiday - The food in the restaurant.
Friendly staff .
Always well maintained Recent weather event affected the pool.
Just an observation
- Campbell (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, great location, terrific pool and tucker if you need it. Was a bit tricky to fill the kettle for a cuppa and a bottle of water in the fridge would be great. ...but I'm nitpicking really. Top spot and highly recommend!
- Carolyn (7/5): Good -
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Canham (7/5): Good -
- Cindy (1/5): Bad -
- Katie (8/5): Very good -
- Geraint (8/5): Nice location - Nice big pool First room was dirty (floors & shower) &
A/c not working.
Second room was better but floors still dirty - black feet constantly
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - clean There was nothing we didn't like, but maybe a mat for the inside of the door.
- Kylie (4/5): - Poorly maintained rooms. Misleading photos. Pool was nice
- Jocelyn (8/5): Very good - Centrally located convenient walking distance to everything No spoons to make a coffee
- Bec (6/5): - The pool was fantastic. Bottle shop onsite. Opposite the IGA. Close walk to beach and food options.
The floor was filthy and not mopped.
The tap was broken in the bathroom
- Wesley (10/5): Enjoyable, comfortable and affordable. Definitely returning if I return to Cardwell. - Comfortable and great location. Nothing to dislike
- Sheryl (10/5): Great night, lovely staff, especially the kind bottle shop assistant. Beautiful meal in the restaura - Everything was great
- Carly (7/5): pleasant staff -
- Craig (7/5): Good -
- Sean (8/5): Very good -
- Barry (7/5): Good -
- Judy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lachlan (4/5): Terrible - I’ve been there twice before in the back rooms and they were good value, nice and comfortable. They couldn’t find our booking, then chucked us in a very average room 3 opposite reception, toilet running, fridge turned off, pillows were lumpy and so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep, shower had dead cockroach in it, coffee mouldy out of date, milk 6 months out of date, drains gurgle when used this is the beginning of a blocked main drain ( I am a plumber), overall very disappointed after having two previous stays that were good.
- Gaby (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (8/5): Cardwell is a lovely spot to explore local cafes and the beach. - The position of the motel was close to a supermarket and bottle shop and only a short drive to cafes. The beach is very close too. We were disappointed that there was no microwave in the room when we arrived. HOWEVER the next morning we noticed a microwave was in the communal kitchen/laundry area just outside our door! We had been very tired when we arrived!!
- Rose (10/5): A pleasant stay in a great motel. We would stay there again. - There wasn’t any breakfast. We had a Pizza Supreme delivered to our room that was cooked at the unit’s restaurant. It was one of the best pizza’s we have ever had. The motel room was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. Nothing.
- Margaret (4/5): Dissatisfied - Not much Steps to room, bathroom. Alcoholic items listed as being in room were missing, paperstated that we would be charged for missing items. Waited around for reception to be open at 9am, unfortunately it wasn't, and we had to leave a note that items were missing from offset. We then kept watch on our finances to check we weren't charged,
- Gregory (9/5): Superb -
