Guest Reviews
- Susanna (9/5): A lovely , quiet little hostel with fantastic staff. - Fantastic location. Just 10 mins walk from the central square. Loads of restaurants and shops round the corner. Quiet at night. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Staff were very kind. Breakfast was excellent Nothing- it’s a great place to stay. A water filter would be good to fill up bottles rather than having to buy plastic ones.

- R B Syivaram (8/5): Great staff, clean rooms, simple breakfast -
- charlotte (10/5): - For a hostel, this place is awesome. Great hot water showers, nice beds with good bedding, a lamp, and they packed our breakfast for us to go at 4am. Would definitely recomend, also in the cool part of town
- Joey (10/5): - Great place to stay in San Blas. The staff were wonderful and made me feel taken care of. The location was excellent, close to restaurants and shopping. Only an 8 minute walk to Plaza de Armas.
- Maria J (10/5): - Good prizes

Zentrum in kurzer Zeit erreichbar
Freundliches Personal
sehr gute Betten Sehr einfaches Frühstück
- monika (10/5): - Such a cute, cozy and very clean Hostal. Excellent location.
- Eileen (10/5): Would stay again - Excellent value and location. Rooms were clean and a bit loud but no complaints at all.
Breakfast was delicious and we loved the small feel. They let us leave our luggage when we went to Machu Picchu and even put in our room when we got back!
- Lauren (8/5): Good hotel for a family trip to Cusco - It was well located in Cusco. Close to the center but away from the hubbub and busy downtown. The breakfast was good and the rooms were clean. It was loud. Just not well soundproofed between rooms.

- Wen-Ling (10/5): - It’s a good city.
- Steve (10/5): -
- Marvin (10/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): - Great location, clean and well maintained property. Hotel staff was very helpful providing delicious made to order breakfast and provided to-go lunch as needed.
- Joshua (9/5): Superb -

- Catharina (8/5): Nice hostal - Nice hostal! Basic rooms but great location and very clean. Lovely staff! and nice breakfast. No Windows in the room. And like every hostal in cusco, it can be quit noisy at night.
- Ute (7/5): Good -
- Rosa (7/5): Great location in Cusco, but noisy - Location was great and the staff was very nice, kind and flexible. The hostal was very noisy, especially in the morning from 6am. Rooms were ok, but quite uncomfortable., and breakfast could be improved.
- Marie (10/5): Cozy stay in Cusco - Staff really friendly, breakfast was good, always have coca leaves for the guest and muna tea.
The room is comfortable, clean and peaceful.
The localisation is in quiet street, close to everything.
- Sean (10/5): - Great location near Plaza de Armas and had everything I needed during my stay. The staff was lovely and took great care of everything. Would definitely return/recommend!
- Josh (10/5): Staff 10/10 - Staff were so helpful - advising me what to do in cusco, helped me book a trip and were patient with me testing my awful Spanish
- Sarah Jane (8/5): Great place to stay - This is the second time staying at this hostel and i can again say i can really recommend it. What makes it so special is both the location and 2 of the staff Jackie and Nelly, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome, always a kind greeting on how your day has been and always «how Are you today» not all Hotels Are lucky enough to have staff that care about their guests as these 2 do, so Thankyou for making my stay again enjoyable. Both San Blas area and Cusco are so beautiful that the 3 weeks i spent here went so fast:-(
Muchos Gracias El Grial and especially to Jackie and Nelly, i will miss your smiling faces:-)
- John (7/5): Good -
- Kirsten (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sian (7/5): Good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Rather quiet neighborhoor with cute parks and cafes
- Gül (9/5): Great staff, and location! - The staff were extremely helpful, especially when we faced the high altitude sickness they didn’t leave us alone until we felt better again. Since all the tours were early in the morning, they prepared us breakfast boxes including fresh fruits and sandwiches, which was great. The location was great as well.
- Guiree (10/5): Perfect stay before going to Machu Picchu! - Very clean bedroom with hot shower!
Center of the little town . Close to the train station!
The host was very kind and we had a great complimentary breakfast on the cafe owned by the hotel! Recommend to stay:)

Volveré a este lugar sin duda
- Charles (10/5): - Very clean and safe. Good value. Easy walk to all the main areas, but away from the noise. The staff were very friendly and helpful, including getting up VERY early to provide me a bag breakfast for my Inca Trail and Machu Michu Picchu Trek.
- David (8/5): Above and beyond service for the price, good location, minor facility issues. - Staff was very helpful and friendly. They held my bag in storage for me when I spent multiple days away for Macchu Pichu and not actually paying for this hostel. They made me breakfast for a 3:30 AM wakeup even though breakfast was only scheduled at 6. The breakfast provided was simple but good. The room was clean and comfortable, cute towel crane on the bed Wifi signal was really bad, and the bandwidth wasn't much better, but I didn't really stay in the hostel much. You need to be very careful about where you leave your clothes and towel when showering, as there's a leak in the shower wall, and if the water hits your clothes before the drain, then you need to find some more. A bit noisy because of thin walls.
- Harald (8/5): Very good - Very nice hosts though only 1 who spoke english fluently enough to get decent Infos - but all very helpful; perfect location, cute building, decent breakfast Can be noisy in the early mornings (3-4am) if others are picked up for tours
- Ana Caroline (10/5): Excelente!
- Harald (9/5): Superb - Very helpful Lady at the reception, beautiful atrium for breakfast, excellent location if you like "artsy" surroundings, room was small but sufficient Only 1 person fluent in english; noise from the street can be bothering in the morning when others are picked up at 3am
- Charlotte (7/5): Comfortable but noisy - We really liked the laundry service and how friendly and smiling the staff was! Breakfast was pretty good with granola, yogurt, eggs made to order, different bread, avocado, jam, butter, cheese, cold cuts, juice etc.
There was plenty of hot water and very good water pressure every day. The room never got very chilly unlike other places in town. The bed was pretty comfortable. We had a room facing the street and were unable to sleep past 6am any of the days due to noise outside and how much you can hear from other rooms, people walking around the hotel. The hotel cannot be blamed for the street noise, but it's something to be mindful of. Maybe ask for a room away from the street.
- Niklas (9/5): Definitely a great & affordable place to stay - Great place in one of the cutest parts of Cusco. Great restaurants around and great shops with really one of a kind clothing. The staff is very helpful and sweet. The bathroom and the bed were very clean but under the bed was still an empty bottle from a previous visitor. So they might not have been as thorough.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Perry (8/5): - Staff was truly amazing and helpful. rooms were noisy and had leaking toilets and faucets. but I cannot say enough about how good the staff was.
- jasonpT6871GZ (10/5): A Wonderful and Welcoming Stay at Hostal El Grial - We had an excellent stay at Hostal El Grial. The staff was extremely helpful and super friendly, greeting us with tea on arrival and accommodating an early check-in. Before our trek to Machu Picchu, they prepared breakfast for us, even with an early 3am departure, and offered to store our extra luggage.
The hostel is in a wonderful neighborhood with many great restaurants, and we always felt safe walking around, even at night. Breakfast was simple but good, with freshly made eggs available each day. The rooms were comfortable, with firm mattresses. Although some reviews mentioned noise, we did not experience this. The street outside is quiet at night, and any noise was limited to occasional footsteps in the corridor.
Overall, Hostal El Grial provided a wonderful experience, and we highly recommend it.
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sonia (5/5): Passable -
- Luca (10/5): Great place in a great area of Cusco - Good location, very clean, very helpful staff, good breakfast included
- Roopam (10/5): Overall, excellent stay. Would love to stay again - Everything was perfect - value for money. Great location and the staff was very helpful Limited vegetarian options for breakfast
- Luiz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Araceli (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Lorenza (10/5): A great basis to explore Cusco and surroundings - The location is really spot on, just a few steps away from Plaza Mayor and the Museo de Arte Precolumbino amongst other attractions. The hotel is nicely decorated in classic colonial style, around a central patio where guests gather for breakfast. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and well designed. The staff are all very kind and serviceable, especially Milagros and the hotel owner who personally drove us to the bus station in her car! Thank you everyone for a great stay. In spite of having advised ahead of time that I am vegan, there were almost no vegan options for breakfast, except for fruits (bread and breakfast cereal both contain milk)
- Wiremu (7/5): Good -
- Ernesto (9/5): Great place. - The hostal is quite great. It is the 2nd time I stayed in this place and keeps the same good service. The facilities are just enough for the price. The staff was very helpful when I did not feel well due to the altitude and are always there is there is an extra service needed. WiFi needs to improve, but not an issue since I was mostly out.
- Paul (10/5): Great hostel in San Blas - This is a great little hostel with mostly older adults (meaning it is NOT a party place. It is in the San Blas barrio mostly away from the noise and ubiquitous hawkers that plague the Plaza de las Armas. Good variety of restaurants near by with a nice little bar up from the Plaza San Blas called Km.O. Nighly live music of uneven quality. Older crowd. Smitty at the front door is funny and can direct you the sister restaurant that has excellent food.I recommend asking for an upstairs room because when I was in 101, I could hear every creaky step of those above. Staff generally is great and the breakfast is just ok. Eggs come with breakfast regardless of whether the staff offers them or not. I would stay here again for the location, charm of the street and the hostal, and the clean rooms. Not the cheapest hostal though.
- Nenad (10/5): Price / performance👍👍👍👍👍 - Good location (in the historical part of the city), excelent breakfast (fresh bread every morning), nice staff.
- Petra (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice staff and helpful
Good location
Good breakfast
Possibility to deposit luggage in case of trip for free
Hot water during all stays some rooms are noisy, especially any movement on the upper floor.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional - Super comfortable and clean room and friendly people who work there and good breakfast. My room did not have a window .
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable
Clean
Friendly
- Loes (9/5): Great stay! - The staff were super friendly and helpful! Beds and shower were good. When you sleep on the front you get a lot noise from the street - starting at 4AM!
- Matthias (8/5): Very comfortable and clean room in the city center. - The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They didn't speak english but did their best to help me. The breakfast is decent but rather basic.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - The upper room was a bit bright in the morning but I liked it. Everything was clean, the staff was super nice and TV + WiFi were working. The room downstairs was more dark, the WiFi was not working and you had terrible to no connection on your phone.
Also you could hear every step from other guests, talks outside of the room etc which was a bit noisy.
Breakfast was okay. Just quite the same every day.
- Olive (5/5): Passable - Not many vegan options. No heater.
No toilet paper or towel replacement.
- Goldsmith (9/5): Best Value for Money Hostel in Cusco for Couples! - Lovely staff who were very kind and attentive. Excellent breakfast every morning.
The best value for money of any hostel in Cusco, great base for trips First room was a little on the smaller side for two people with lots of luggage but to be expected.
Not necessarily a negative but road is very narrow so lots of tour companies and taxis require you to take a short walk to a wider street for pick up for excursions.
On the ground floor you get quite a bit of noise from room above.
Despite the above would definitely stay here again
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Mathilde (9/5): A great experience overall, we really recommend this place for your stay in Cusco! - The staff +++
Amazing breakfast
Good shower
Comfortable beds
Perfect location Our room was a bit noisy especially at night (noise from the street and from the rooms above)
It was too dark as we were on the ground floor
- Pablo (3/5): Noisy and Disappointing - Good location and friendly receptionist My recent stay at El Grial Hostel left much to be desired. The noise levels were intolerable, making sleep nearly impossible with constant disturbances, especially at 3am with people
Preparing for tours. Additionally, the lack of soundproofing exacerbated the issue. The rooms lacked windows and felt overpriced compared to other options in Cusco.
Unable to bear the noise, I opted to switch hotels for a peaceful sleep. However, I was surprised they wanted to charged for part or the a tire second night, despite leaving due to the unbearable conditions.
I recommend the hotel to remind guest guests waking up for early tours to be mindful of the noise, as even small disturbances can be heard in the building and other rooms.
- Andrea (9/5): Superb -
- Luciana (9/5): Superb -
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional -
- Domenic (8/5): Nice place with great staff, just a little loud. - The staff was excellent and very helpful with anything we needed. Location was good, only a short walk to the plaza de armas and very near to the trail to saqsawayman also. Breakfast was pretty good too. It was pretty loud. We could hear music and talking from the street as well as other guests having… intimate moments. Weirdly, the weekdays were loudest, Saturday was quiet. Go figure.
