- Matthew (10/5): - Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Went above and beyond. Room was exceptional, well maintained, clean, comfy bed nice shower/ bathroom area. Offered a peaceful nightly boat ride. Tho the boat ride was peaceful, felt it was a bit overpriced
- Siobhan (10/5): - The staff were all so friendly and took great care of me! It was such a nice quite place to relax after travelling for so long and it was just perfect to lie Infront of the river watching the birds and hippos!
- Erica Maria (9/5): -

- Linda (6/5): -
- Alfons (8/5): - Very friendly staff, wonderful location on the Thamalakane River, diverse birdlife, and hippos grazing in front of the chalet at night. A good starting point for scenic flights over the Okavango Delta.

- Karen (8/5): Location, location, location - The location of the lodge is terrific- out of town and right by the river. Great deck for watching the hippos and birdlife while working. The rooms were nice and spacious and the breakfasts and dinners were lovely with a good and different selection each day. Internet is strong and reliable enough for remote work. There are two things however which frustrated us. The main thing was that we requested a sunset river cruise for our third and final evening in advance (as we were told to do) and re-requested on arrival, but on our last day we were told that there would not be a sunset cruise as there was no boat. That was rather irritating. There was one other thing, more minor but still a bit frustrating- we were working remotely during our three day stay and three times my husband had a meeting. Each time he was approached and interrupted by a member of staff who wanted to talk to him (either to move from the deck or to ask about menus and food orders). This was bizarre because he was clearly busy- clearly wearing large headphones and talking to his computer and on two occasions I was sitting next to him without headphones and not speaking into my computer and they still interrupted him and not me. I guess most people there are on holiday, but still a bit irritating.

- katharine (7/5): Good overnight stay - Good location, friendly staff. Rooms/ bathrooms are dated. Toilet in open plan room lacks privacy. A bit pricey for what you get.
- Michael (8/5): For me it was a staging post and in this context it was fine - Breakfast is basic and OK.
- Zeelie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Therese (10/5): Great experience of a safe friendly country. Fantastic Game drive to Moremi. Excellent guides - Staff were very friendly and hospitable. Food was good. Location was good. Helpful with everything including arranging rides and activities.

- Adri (1/5): Bad -
- Duncan (8/5): Very good - fine No hairdryer, tipping policy confusing and detrimental to staff if on a credit card
- Hartmut (7/5): Good -
- Peter (7/5): Pleasant stay by the river, with a great sunset. - Great location. Quite expensive for what it is.
- Belinda (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous thatched cabins, very romantic. Nothing
- Tim (9/5): Awesome stay. Highly recommend. - Benchmark for customer service. Set the tone from the first minute we got there and they were always positive, smiling and ready to help. They always treated every guest like they wanted you to be there, and we didn't realise how much of a difference they would make until we went to another place. Seriously, the service here was amazing, and it was by the whole team.
The washing service and room service was impeccable, nothing was ever too much trouble. It's a beautiful place to stay with fantastic and peaceful views all round. Walking around at night it was lit beautifully and you can see frogs come out. During the day we regularly saw birds and squirells playing around. We didn't like the wait times on our food, it was consistently long while at the restaurant, and the food was hit and miss. Dinner was usually really good, but brekky was a little let down.
- Thomas (8/5): Overall, we had a great stay. - Location was good and helpful staff On Sunday evening, we were told that the wasn’t much left for dinner, very disappointing.
- Julian (9/5): This is a lovely lodge and a great stopping off point for Maun. Accommodation is comfortable and you are guaranteed to b - Staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. The setting is wonderful albeit that the river wasn’t there due to the time of year. This is Botswana and in February as we discovered at night the moths come out in vast numbers. Not the lodge’s problem it is just one of those things for the time of year!
- Jamie (7/5): Good -
- Willem (8/5): Very good -
- Mmfspa (1/5): Very bad experience - We did not like the lodge or even the atmosphere. The staff was rude
The food was bad
The room was not clean
- Sands (5/5): Passable -
- Dnt (10/5): What a gem! - As per our previous review, we love this place. Kelly, Chello and every one of their service, housekeeping and management colleagues, you are wonderful. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
Our new gem in Maun! None!
- Gary (8/5): Very good - Stayed here first and last night of our self-drive trip into the Moremi. Rooms are nice with lovely views over the Thamalakane and fantastic sunset views over the river in the afternoon. Nice dining and bar area to spend the evenings as well.
Situated just to the north of Maun it's a perfect spot to get out of the hot busy town but not too far in case you need to drive in to the centre pick up any provisions or visit the mall.
We were headed further north towards Khwai the first day so for us the location was even more convenient. Best place to spend a few nights in or around Maun and for us it was the perfect beginning and ending to our trip.
- Dnt (10/5): What an absolute GEM! - Our favorite new stay in Maun before & after visiting the delta. What a GEM! It is a beautiful lodge on the bank of the Boteti river, but even has beautiful views when the river is dry.
The service is exceptional and feels 5*. The welcome at the reception is incredibly professional and welcoming. When we came back for the second time they were so happy they put us with a big smile at the bar with a cold drink, so they could make our (already clean and prepped) chalet even nicer with an elaborate flower and towel decoration on the bed. Chello and Kelly, the way you handle the reception and welcome at the lodge is like a warm bath! You two are amazing and it wouldn't be the same without you two & a shoutout to the ladies who make the rooms so gorgeous!!! Also the lodge manageress makes it a point to greet you individually which is also very appreciated at several points during your stay.
It seems you have the same waiter in the restaurant throughout your stay (or at least we had , both visits) which is a nice touch.. All the rooms are separate cottages with thatched roofing and part mosquito gauze for airflow along the roof. Very clean, good beds, nice bathrooms and a shower with a ton of pressure.
There are rooms with aircon and less river view (but still a nice view) and rooms with the best view but without aircon. I believe there are also family chalets or doubles and a wellness/spa/lounge area, but not sure.
The food is great! Don't hesitate to stay here!
Thank you from D&A Nothing!
- Michaela (8/5): Nice location with river view - The location at the riverside, even the river was dry in November. Nice Terrasse with amazing view of sundown. The food was excellent for dinner, the staff friendly, the room comfortable. The breakfast was very basic. No buffet, you had to chose either or. Not even peanutbutter, no Cappuccino. The pool was not even to swim, only two small splash basins. The toilet in the room was not separate, no privacy at all. The offered activities were high in price, could be booked at much less price in internet.
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meral (8/5): A comfortable and characterful lodge overlooking the river - Really friendly and professional team.
Lovely comfortable room with character and nice to have access to sun loungers and a small pool when hot.
Lovely view over the river and convenient location between Maun and Moremi when travelling around Botswana. Accommodation price a little high compatible to other lodges we stayed at with equal or higher level facilities.
Room would benefit from a small fridge for water etc and a hairdryer in room. We don’t watch tv on holiday but for some, a tv may be important and there was no tv in the room.
Sun loungers cushions would benefit from regular inspection and cleaning to be most inviting to lay on.
Breakfast great but would have liked the option for evening meal menu other than the buffet. Food nice but we are not fans of buffet food.
- Mcgrath (10/5): Thamalakane respite - Wide views across river were lovely. On our first day a hippo kindly moved in and entertained us. Staff were without exception warm & helpful. Chalets were beautiful, well appointed and restaurant overlooking the river was charming I would recommend this place unreservedly Nothing
- Mark (10/5): If your looking for a place to stay in Maun this is where you should stay. Can't recommend enough. - This was the 5th hotel we stayed in due our 3 week holiday and by far the best. The setting of the hotel is awesome and very well maintanined. The food and service was second to none, the staff were all very good.
Every night there was different people arriving at the hotel which kept the evenings fresh with others holiday stories.
Thanks to everyone that works in the Thamalakane River Lodge. Nothing to say.
- Paul (7/5): It was OK - Room was massive, some of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Cash strictly not accepted, but this wasn't told to us until after we arrived with a load of cash. Some staff were pretty frosty towards guests, which made you feel a bit uneasy asking for anything (e.g. asking reception to help you get a taxi as there's nothing nearby). Rooms not having air con meant it was sweltering, and similarly there were no fridges so the water left by the cleaning staff became hot by the afternoon. Also we were almost charged twice for the rooms, as we were asked to pay 50% upon arrival, then the remaining 50% when we arrived but there was no record of the initial payment, then they tried to charge again when settling up. It was one of the most expensive hotels in Maun but we really didn't get the feeling it was deserved from our stay.
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Pretty site on river Poor swimming pool, service slow but friendly.
- Rykie (10/5): Great stay and will return - Great location
Friendly staff
Helpful when we asked for early breakfast before scenic flight Nil
- Kavita (7/5): Good stay but nothing exceptional. Shower drain is slow at draining so there is some overflow. Do expect a little more f - Great staff, great views. Shower drain wouldn’t drain fast when showering with soap and then would overflow. For that amount paid do expect a little more facilities wise.
- Evelyn (9/5): Superb - Everything was nearly perfect, everybody was friendly. We had really nothing to complain. It‘ was a pity that the field to the river was less green than at our first stay.
- Endre (9/5): We loved the lodge - The lodge is located in a very nice place, despite of the fact, that the Thamalakane River was arid.
The staff was fantastic, both the reception and the support team. Very good "safaris" were organized by the lodge, one to Mokoro (Okavango), one to Moremi Game Reserve, with local guides.
Food is excellent. Breakfast is rich, dinner is depending of the number of guests, menu or buffet, but the foods are excellent in both cases.
The room is very cosy during the day, but... ...if the evening is coming, it's colder and colder. Maun is a very cold place at this season, but this is not the fault of the lodge.
The only thing which was somehow out of our comfort zone, that toilet was in the same space then the bedroom, even separated by a simple wall, but smells and noises came out directly.
More intimity should be wise.
- Jac (5/5): Not again - Breakfast was minimal
Diner a poor buffet Upon arrival i wanted to use the toilet at the reception and found it to be in a filthy state
As the delta was bonedry there is no good reason to visit the place and therefore it was an expensive bad experience
Futhrrmore you have to pay for the whole period and if you want to leaf earlier there is no refund
- Daniel (6/5): Bad service and bad food - The location is really good. The dinner is served as a buffet. 1 hour into the buffet we arrived and were told there is no more food. The staff made a plan to make an Oxtail but the quality was awful. The service from restaurant staff is very relaxed and not attentive. Since my previous stay a year before it is clear the lodge has taken a bit of a dive. I was not impressed at all.
- Jens (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Daleen (9/5): Superb -
- Emil (8/5): Very relaxing stay. - It is an excellant location to visit the bush. Management was absent during our stay.
- Iris (9/5): Superb - Lovely setup, lush and green, ideal place to start or end your safari.
- Frede (3/5): Poor - In 2024 a lodge in this hot arie MUST have aircon.
Room temperature 28-29 degrees
Tours from the lodge very expensive
- Aryafara (10/5): The staff and particularly the chef as he prepared a fabulous vegetarian meal especially on request . A real oasis in Ma - Everything especially the location and the room was gorgeous with big trees and garden out the front with the river and many birds We liked everything
- Margo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Toziva (8/5): Very good -
- Winslow (8/5): A great stay for a stopover for 2 nights to recover from a road trip or the toughness of the Moremi Game Reserve. - The location with the abundance of bird life. No doors between room and bathroom. So no privacy. The shower also was too open. The pool should have been cleaned more often. The chairs outside the chalet were uncomfortable without pillows. They were also not clean. The fact that there was construction work going on at the time of our stay. However the staff made extra arrangements for us. Thanks.
- Jorge (1/5): Bad -
- Victoria (7/5): A formulaic place to stay that is a sanitised version of Africa. We moved lodges for our last night - Staff were lovely and everything was on site so very relaxing for our first night. Room was dark and gloomy - even with the lights on - and with no air conditioning and a noisy fan.
- Ipe (10/5): Pleasant stay, just could have had better service in coordinating activities. - Friendly staff, good food and serene venue. Coordination of activities and accommodating circumstances of the river being low.
- Bruno (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful lodge, excellent cuisine, nicest people and beautiful location
- Nicklas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (8/5): - Maun us very hot, it ran 38C - 40C during our 4 days there. The cabins badly need air conditioning.
- Heidi (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly welcoming staff. 2 Pool are available but it is like a plunge pool and not really for swimming.
- Robert (8/5): Enjoyable and lucky to have been able to visit. - Location on river adds interest. Ideal transit stop during journey. Staff welcoming and helpful, particularly with airport transfers. Would appreciate provision of more water (2 small bottles of drinking water per day for 2 people), adequate amount/range of toiletries and a few more hot drink supplies would make guest more comfortable.
- Brendon (10/5): A wonderful, serene and thoroughly enjoyable place to stay - Our stay at Thamalakane was an opportunity to acclimatise before a 12 day self drive through the Moremi and Chobe national parks. I was blown away by how beautiful the lodge would be, the lovely gardens and trees provide a haven and a little cooling micro climate in the dry season that attracts and provides a home for an abundance of birds and small wildlife on the Thamalakane River. It was such a pleasure to be able to sit and have coffee in the mornings and watch the birds flit down to the gently trickling ponds adjacent to the main dining area and then get to do it again with a cooling G&T in the late afternoon whilst watching the hippo in the river.
The staff at Thamalakane are all absolutely wonderful and are by far the heart and soul of the lodge. They were increadibly attentive, accomodating and kind. Aaron, Godfrey, T4, Patricia, Debbie and all the other wonderful staff who's names I dont remember and wish I did, including the chef for accomodating us by making phaleche and the staff that maintained the lovely rooms and premises and the gardeners for their tending of the absolutely wonderful gardens, you have my sincerest thanks. And then there was Kelly, you are an absolute credit to the lodge my friend and cant thank you enough for being so attentive, caring and going that extra mile, I only wish we had been able to say good bye.
- Fiona (8/5): very nice place to stay - great breakfast outside chairs and around the dining room tables could be more comfortable
- John (10/5): - Stayed two nights to sleep in & relax after two weeks on safari. Nice, private bungalos on the river. Perfect choice for kicking back. Be sure to arrange airport shuttle pickup before you arrive or it could be an hour or more wait. We would stay there again.
- Raymond (8/5): Very good - The room was clean and the food was good. We had a buffet and a la carte. The location was at the Thamalakane river but it was dry when we where there (July). The staff was friendly and helpful. After the stay we booked a 2 night safari in Moremi and Kwai with Planet Safari (right across the street) which was a wonderful experience. After that we came back again at Thamalakane lodge for 1 night. The excursions are expensive and therefore we booked elsewhere at Planet Safari.
- Robert (8/5): Great staff - N/A Very poor wifi
- Alexandra (10/5): Idyllic setting and beautiful cabins. Bar area was fabulous - Beautiful lodge. Lovely employees
- Marike1612 (10/5): What a delight! - Most friendly staff, and very helpful. A big thank you to Sarah, who decorated our room so beautifully 😍 !
The entertainment in the evening was delightful, and the food delicious! We will definitely be coming back.
- Loris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (4/5): Disappointing - Location The room we were allocated that looked absolutely nothing like advertised and the food- buffet style, overcooked and bland.
- Astrid (10/5): We can highly recommend this lodge - the management & staff make your stay an exceptional experience - Perfect service, super friendly and helpful staff, perfectly maintained lodge - we had a wonderful stay here.
- Tatjana (10/5): Exceptional - Eco cabins in African style
Comfortable bed
Great breakfast
Amazing staff
Great location with restaurant overlooking the River and unreal African sunset Pool was not heated
- Justine (8/5): Very good - beautiful location on the river. lovely pool.
nice bar area and good food
- Jane (7/5): Good - Great river views and excellent food. Chef made special gluten free bread. Wonky sink table meant toiletries kept sliding off!
- Tracey (9/5): Even though we were there for a short time we felt very welcomed the food was excellent - The staff are very attentive and helpful. The setting of the resort is stunning with the river and beautiful sunsets. The little huts are very comfortable and spacious. nothing
- Dawn (8/5): comfortable, lovely location and staff very nice. - location by the River. nice big rooms.
- Daniel (9/5): A very enjoyable stay 😀 - Large, comfortable bungalow. Outdoor seating with a view on the river. Good meals. Excursion to Moremi Game Reserve. Dinner candles that were unprotected from the wind gave off soot and blew out. Consider alternative dinner lighting.
- Sonnette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (7/5): comfortable, great service but because of poor food options when I return I will eat out! - location and staff. lack of food options. poor menu choices. little touches are missing for the price!
- John (8/5): Great value with idyllic location on river - Beautiful location on the river, comfortable beds, property nice no music during dinner
- Ansunette (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Incredible place!!! -
- Sebona (5/5): Good for adults holiday - location and buildings. Clean and staff very helpful. There is a high risk of falls by the pool. Wood and water don’t mix. I would advise people to bring family or children around. The place is not for family is only for adults.
